Everyone is having these issues. Check
https://github.com/chrippa/livestreamer/issues/1456
and https://discuss.dev.twitch.tv/t/client-id-requirement-faqs/6108 .
It should be easy to fix but apparently livestreamer is no longer being developed.
Edit: Just found a fix. I'm using the linux CLI. Edit2. You can skip steps 1-2 and get your access token at http://www.twitchapps.com/tmi/ . Also, if you don't want to type in your access token every time, you can put it in a config file.
Step 1. Type livestreamer --twitch-oauth-authenticate
. Chrome will open and ask you to login to twitch. It will give you a "page does not exist" error. FeelsBadMan
Step 2. Check the url. It has a section that says access_token=xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
. Copy this string.
Step 3. Continue watching livestreamer as usual. However, when opening a stream, it should read
livestreamer --twitch-oauth-token xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx twitch.tv/channel best
There is this thing called livestreamer and the livestreamer twitch gui. It lets you watch your stream over your local player (vlc for example) without any lags at all. The best performance and quality you will ever get
https://github.com/chrippa/livestreamer/releases
https://github.com/bastimeyer/livestreamer-twitch-gui
Just download both and when the livestreamer installer asks you wether you want to modify the settings file, click yes and paste the path to your player in there. Done. Now just open the Twitch GUI and enjoy.
Also if you want the Twitch chat, they also have a link in there that autmoaticly opens it
Posted in another thread (somehow deleted now), but just posting again to maybe help some guys enjoy the stream:
The video player really didn't work well for me and I had to use livestreamer. It's amazing to watch the stream in VLC/MPC HC (I can use SVP as well for 144fps) and I can heavily recommend it.
Only keep in mind that adrev isn't a thing when using it as those are completely bypassed. So if you want to support the streamer have the stream open in a muted tab on low quality. Link: https://github.com/chrippa/livestreamer/releases
After install you need to edit the livestreamerrc file and delete the "#" before the media player of your choice, edit the path to the media player and then restart cmd if you have it open and type in "livestreamer mlg.tv/dota best" without the " and your media player should start
The actual video quality isn't increased by much except the scaling is usually done quite well in VLC/MPC HC/video players in general but especially the cpu usage goes down a LOT because the mlg player is 100% flash. I heavily recommend livestreamer for lower end systems.
If you are experiencing audio sync problems on the main EN stream here is a solution.
Step 1, have VLC installed
Step 2, install https://github.com/chrippa/livestreamer/releases
Step 3, go to run, type "livestreamer.exe twitch.tv/dotastarladder_en source"
Once in VLC adjust audio delay to 400~500 by using the hotkey "K" for + and "J" for -
Enjoy the stream!
Protip; Use this for other channels aswell, just replace the URL.
Tip for people from eu: You can stream through VLC, and record the whole stream, then watch it when you wake up.
Install VLC
Install Livestreamer
Open the "Run" process.
Write "livestreamer twitch.tv/esl_hearthstone best" (this will open up the stream in VLC.
Press the record button in the interface(if you dont see it, then press "View->advanced controls") This will record the stream into your documents folder, and you can watch it later anytime you want.
NOTE: Remember to stop the record by pressing the record button again!
https://github.com/chrippa/livestreamer/releases so you install this one.(must have vlc to play). After that you open cmd(windows key+R,type cmd). And after that you type something like
livestreamer twitch.tv/riotgames high (paste in with mouse clicks)
works with youtube livestreams/videos too. I can barely watch 480p on twitch and this tool made my viewing experience better(720p no lag)
Try using livestreamer. These glorious 60fps streams now only take 20% of my CPU instead of 70!
Edit: dailymotion bug was fixed
https://livestreamer-builds.s3.amazonaws.com/livestreamer-v1.7.5-101-g664ab49-win32.zip
The latest commit to Livestreamer was almost a year ago. There's a fork called Streamlink which is more actively maintained and works with all streaming services I've tried.
I use livestreamer and have no lag. You can download it here. And then just open notepad and write "livestreamer https://www.twitch.tv/mlg best" and save it as "mlg.bat". Then just run the file. (you need VLC player aswell)

There are frontends for livestreamer which can open a stream and chat with the click of a button.
https://github.com/chrippa/livestreamer/wiki/Alternative-interfaces
I can recommend "livestreamer-twitch-gui" from that list.
You could try and use livestreamer + vlc to watch the stream.
1. Install vlc: http://www.videolan.org/vlc/
2. Install livestreamer: https://github.com/chrippa/livestreamer/releases
3.Make a text file, add the text below and save it as .bat
@echo off
:IAMALIVE
livestreamer twitch.tv/h1z1 Source
GOTO IAMALIVE
4.Launch it using the the .bat file.

A possible solution to your Twitch problems: Livestreamer, Twitch Livestreamer GUI, a video player of your choice (VLC or MPC-HC are good, there's a settings file and an option for switching players in the GUI), and Twitch Leecher if you want to watch vods.
I use the above with MPC-HC (used to use VLC, but MPC-HC is somewhat less resource intensive), compared to the horribly resource intensive Flash that Twitch's site currently uses (HTML5 is coming soon^^(TM) and will improve that, but...) it uses very few resources. Mileage may vary for you, but for me it works great for playing and watching at the same time.
I know it's not exactly.. a permafix. And I completely agree that we should have a YT stream for this. But for anyone having hardcore issues with Twitch, give livestreamer a try.
https://github.com/chrippa/livestreamer/releases <-- That's your download
http://docs.livestreamer.io/ <--- There's everything you could ever need to know about it.
Hope this helps
Since there is no surefire way to fix this issue, I started using livestreamer.exe to watch twitch streams. Much smoother than watching in a browser. https://github.com/chrippa/livestreamer/releases
It works with other websites like youtube, ustream and hitbox as well
I just watch the streams with vlc and chat through Hexchat.
Edit: wow, this comment was unhelpful. Let's fix that: I use livestreamer + Livestreamer Twitch GUI.
Tip for people from eu:
You can stream through VLC, and record the whole stream, then watch it when you wake up.
Install VLC
Install [Livestreamer(https://github.com/chrippa/livestreamer/releases)
Open the "Run" process.
Write "livestreamer twitch.tv/esl_hearthstone best" (this will open up the stream in VLC.
Press the record button in the interface(if you dont see it, then press "View->advanced controls") This will record the stream into your documents folder, and you can watch it later anytime you want.
NOTE: Remember to stop the record by pressing the record button again!
In that case, here's how one should be able to record it:
Download this: https://github.com/chrippa/livestreamer
If you have a mac, install with
pip install livestreamer
then from your terminal run this ( 'WORLDS' is the file it will be saved to. ):
livestreamer youtube.com/livestreamurl --default-stream best --output WORLDS
Check out the documentation for more details and to have a setup that is more robust (i.e won't time out on a poor connection).
New way:
Get VLC (If you haven't already).
Download Livestreamer from GitHub - Download will start when you click the link.
Install, just click next each time.
Press Win + R, or search Run in the Start Menu.
Paste in the following text:
livestreamer.exe twitch.tv/mindcracknetwork source
Enjoy.
If you want to do the same to other livestreams, replace the twitch.tv URL with the stream you want to watch.
Get Livestreamer
Go to your command line (windows: win+R, cmd) or terminal (linux - mostly ctrl+alt+T?)
enter the above into the command line/terminal.
Someone on this sub directed me to livestreamer, which makes watching MLG a lot more enjoyable. It may seem intimidating, but it's actually quite easy. Just do the following:
Install VLC media player if you don't already have it.
Install livestreamer here.
Open cmd in Windows and type: livestreamer mlg.tv/smash 720p (or whatever resolution you want. I had some weird glitches on 1080p, but 720 still looks good.)
The stream will open and start playing in VLC, without ads.
You can use livestreamer to watch dailymotion in VLC.
Get it here
And then it should be just a open up command prompt and:
livestreamer http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x1zuqni_the-alliance-vs-fnatic-game-2-d2cl-semi-final-with-tobiwandota-7ckingmaddota_videogames?start=1 best
If it's not your connection but your computer/flash player, you can try livestreamer (scroll down, green button). Since this is command line, it might help to get the Firefox addon, not sure if this exists for chrome, but you could just temporarily use Firefox for this.
Go to the stream on twitch.tv in Firefox. Right-click anywhere on the page (not on the stream) and you should see 'launch this page in livestreamer'. Choose a quality option and it should launch the stream in VLC (you gotta have VLC installed as well of course). If you get an error message in the command prompt, you may need to reboot your computer before it works. It puts a lot less stress on my old computer than the Flash stream.
Es gibt ein Programm, welches das ganze im separaten Fenster anzeigen lassen kann -> Livestreamer
Und für den Fernseher würde ich mir einen ChromeCast kaufen. :)
Einfach mal informieren, dann findet man auch was.

Another option is livestreamer. Pass it the URL of a page from ustream, livestream, youtube or a wide range of other video stream services and it will determine the URL and pass it to mpv, vlc, mplayer or whatever other player you like.
Edit: at least it would be if livestream hadn't updated their URLs so it doesn't work! Development is patched and a release will be made soon; in the meantime there is a fix here: https://github.com/chrippa/livestreamer/issues/847
If you find these useful, you might also find livestreamer useful. It simplifies playing videos and streams from various services in the media player of your choice. It's pluggable, open source, and actively developed, meaning you can write plugins or submit proposals for stuff you come across that's not yet supported.
Basically there's a program called Livestreamer that can be used to watch Twitch streams in some standard video players that run on your computer (rather than through a web browser). The "mute" that Twitch put in place isn't actually a part of the video itself, the audio is still there, Twitch's video player just refuses to unmute it for you, thus why watching a VOD in a video player other than Twitch's fixes the audio (aka no muting).
The OP just gave a brief overview of how to use Livestreamer.
STEPS:
Go to https://github.com/chrippa/livestreamer/releases and install the correct version of the program for your operating system.
In a command prompt type the following "livestreamer URL_OF_VOD source".
Example: livestreamer twitch.tv/tsm_theoddone/b/554506934 source
If you want to skip ahead to a certain part of a VOD add a question mark to the URL followed by time offset of the form "t=2h21m22s" where h=hours, m=minutes, s=seconds.
Example: livestreamer twitch.tv/tsm_theoddone/b/554506934?t=3h1m10s source
How to install/use Livestreamer:
There are various guides if you do a Google search. Here's a couple:
Windows Guides:

There's this wrapper here:

But I haven't had a chance to fool around with it yet. If you can't figure it out, I can carve out some time on Thursday to write up an easy way to do it before Evo hits.
You can use livestreamer and vlc to record streams from just about any video streaming site. Follow the instructions in this video its what i'll be doing.
https://github.com/chrippa/livestreamer#quickstart
# pip install livestreamer $ livestreamer twitch.tv/day9tv best [cli][info] Found matching plugin twitch for URL twitch.tv/day9tv [cli][info] Opening stream: source [cli][info] Starting player: vlc
I know one but isn't that simple.
https://github.com/chrippa/livestreamer/ http://docs.livestreamer.io/
You would need to install this Then on command line write :
livestreamer http://connectcast.tv/squirrelisback
Then edit vlc .rc config file to have cache=X where x is in ms .
Not seeing other solution atm. Average bitrate is 2800 KB/s .
I have similar problem old harware, openwith add-on
I used to use it for open normal-tab-pages in Chrome/IE. But when I was googling for alternatives for flash opening in VLC, it also can do this. I'm sorry can't find link/video anymore for setting up.
In global:
add program VLC
and option put in context-menu
2 ways open it:
1) already opened a link-tab, just click vlc icon in the browser
2) right-click on link, in context-menu select open with VLC
Extra info when using Twitch/ustream(bunch of other flash related player), viewing in VLC. Use livestreamer, this is a lot of difficult to open because this uses prompt-command, and still copy-paste.
And last tip(use Chrome, no we are FF-users:) download the video, for other then Youtube. While downloading, it's possible to watch the video in VLC/other.
Well, exactly what kind of functionality are you looking for? There exists tools that does this, but I'm not sure of a one-fits-all solution. There are a number of different frontends for livestreamer. For downloading I use good ol' youtube-dl.
dont disable your firewall or antivirus, next version you might switch to another streaming software, just install Livestreamer and set the path to livestreamer.exe in settings using the button [...] on the Streamlink path option, Make sure you change the filter to All Files (.) (instead of streamlink.exe)
link to livestreamer.exe (one-click, download) https://github.com/chrippa/livestreamer/releases/download/v1.12.2/livestreamer-v1.12.2-win32-setup.exe
I didn't delete guys... Someone else did... Here it is:
Twitch API now require a client-id, which Livestreamer doesn't support yet. So if you are having trouble to watch streams with Livestreamer, I'll paste here a solution:
>Step 1. Type livestreamer --twitch-oauth-authenticate. Chrome will open and ask you to login to twitch. It will give you a "page does not exist" error. be sure not to close this page until after you have made sure the fix works in case you need the token again
>Step 2. Check the url. It has a section that says access_token=(string of characters)&Scope. Copy the token contents section between the = and the &. For example if it is access_token=12345ABCDEabcde&Scope you end up with 12345ABCDEabcde
>step 3. go to your appdata folder for livestreamer listed here http://docs.livestreamer.io/cli.html#configuration-file This should be something like users/(username)/appdata/roaming/livestreamer
>step 4. open the livestreamerrc file in notepad and scroll all the way to the bottom.
>step 5. on a new line, put: twitch-oauth-token= and paste the string of character after the = with no space between them example: twitch-oauth-token=12345ABCDEabcde
>step 6. Save the file and try opening a stream as you usually do.

As Livestreamer is not updated since May 2015, I doubt it will receive a fix anytime soon. So you guys can still use it as it is.
If you didn't know Livestramer, take a look at:
http://docs.livestreamer.io/
You could use the livestreamer program to open a twitch stream in vlc (or other video player of your choice). The twitch player seems to run like ass on my tablet but streaming it using vlc works fine.
So, as already mention, IRC works great (Been there, done that) but it does lose a lot of features of the Twitch chats (Gotta have them animu waifus), I started using this, which supports using Chatty, which I found of course because I was using Livestreamer, as you mentioned.
I can recommend using livestreamer: link with all platforms. It projects the stream directly into a video player on your pc, so you don't have to deal with twitch's shitty flash.
It doesn't have a graphical interface, you have to enter something into the windows (or whatever plaform you're using) command line. It's looks intimidating for inexperienced users, but it's actually quite easy: Just install the stuff for your platform from that link (complete installer for windows), open the command terminal (search for cmd on windows) and enter
livestreamer www.twitch.tv/geekandsundry source
and it automatically opens your videoplayer. This has vastly improved my livestream experience. I still get a little lag sometimes, I can only assume that's just them dropping frames, though, so there is nothing you can do about that.
You can of course also choose a different quality than source in case your internet doesn't support that.
Have you tried livestreamer?
Fast explanation, install https://github.com/chrippa/livestreamer/releases/download/v1.12.2/livestreamer-v1.12.2-win32-setup.exe
and VLC player http://www.videolan.org/vlc/
Then open a command line and type:
livestreamer http://www.twitch.tv/esl_lol high
You can replace high for medium or low, or even source if you want better quality
Asuming you're on Windows, just install this exe.
If you're not, http://docs.livestreamer.io/install.html
Run with Command Prompt/Terminal livestreamer url
for example, livestreamer twitch.tv/geoff
or livestreamer https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dQw4w9WgXcQ
Aight boys I'll post a tutorial on how to watch through VLC player.. No lag, no nothing.
//Watching the stream with no problems at all. Found this at youtube.
Hey.. You can use Livestreamer Twitch GUI (https://github.com/bastimeyer/livestreamer-twitch-gui) for Livestreamer (https://github.com/chrippa/livestreamer). It's a Client on your desktop that loads the streams using VLC player, so the CPU/RAM usage is less while still keeping the quality good.
No, the software livestreamer passes the stream live to vlc and vlc converts it so I can watch it. It works with livestreams (Twitch, etc.) as well as with video portals (YouTube, etc.).
> I'm afraid there is currently no public timeline as to when non-Flash playback will replace the Flash player entirely
Just an FYI, you can watch twitch in your video player of choice now, complete with a nifty open-source UI.
Easy as cake. No more resource hog, and no ads.
Not really. Although me and my friends (lahat PLDT) eh di maka-access ng twitch streams unless we use livestreamer. Gray background with twitch logo lang ang lumalabas. Parang binablock ng pldt ata dito sa area namin.
See this issue on Github:
https://github.com/chrippa/livestreamer/issues/856
The solution is apparently fixed in the latest development version, but not yet in the latest release. You can either install the development version or you can do what the author suggested in his response:
livestreamer "hlsvariant://http://www.hitbox.tv/api/player/hlsvod/<vodnumber>.m3u8" best
Replace <vodnumber>
with the number from the URL.
Thank you so much, I was literally just looking for something like this. My usual solution of livestreamer on the Ustream stream is currently broken.
do you know about the awesomeness that is livestreamer?
github link, scroll down and click the green buttons
livestreamer lets you play the stream via your local player (like vlc player) so you dont use that many ressources anymore
This looks like it will work.
Download this: https://github.com/chrippa/livestreamer
If you have a mac, install with
easy_install -U livestreamer
then run this:
livestreamer youtube.com/livestream url --default-stream best --output WORLDS
( 'WORLDS' is the file it will be saved to. )
Check out the documentation for more details and to have a setup that is more robost (i.e won't time out on a poor connection).
Twitch problem: On Github download as zip (Stupid me couldn't find the download button, its on the right-side-bar. Self-noob).
Find twitch.py file in the zip livestreamer-develop\src\livestreamer\plugins.
Go to Programfiles, C:\Program Files\Livestreamer\livestreamer-1.11.0-py2.7.egg\livestreamer\plugins.
Just copy the file, and remove the twitch.py*c* (older version of course)
Or just wait for the new Update I think. Maybe other fixes, but Twitch-users this is fastest/temporarily solution
Do you have any addons? I had the EU-NA server swap so I could watch lag free but that started to lag me out so I disabled it and EU is grand now. 80KB/s down for me and I can stream on low with no buffer
Edit: Or get Livestreamer https://github.com/chrippa/livestreamer/releases and stream on VLC. You can choose what quality you want too. Follow this http://www.reddit.com/r/DotA2/comments/1o5n68/how_to_watch_twitch_through_vlc/ccp18bb to use it
I use livestreamer with rtmpdump to capture the raw stream from twitch. Theres a number of other ways to capture twitch streams, but livestreamer makes it easy. https://github.com/chrippa/livestreamer
You can then use a number of tools to analyse the video file. Media info's okay. http://mediainfo.sourceforge.net/en
The screenshots are from the captures aswell. They're not from the twitch flash player.
livestreamer worked audio only with twich but i dont know how facebook one does, give it a try if interested
https://www.reddit.com/r/Kappa/comments/3dbmg4/windows_livestreamervlc_twitch_viewing_pleb/ https://github.com/chrippa/livestreamer/issues/1259
There is actually a fix
Step 1. Type livestreamer --twitch-oauth-authenticate. Chrome will open and ask you to login to twitch. It will give you a "page does not exist" error.
Step 2. Check the url. It has a section that says access_token=xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx. Copy this string.
Step 3. Continue watching livestreamer as usual. However, when opening a stream, it should read livestreamer --twitch-oauth-token xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx twitch.tv/channel best
I have used Livestreamer in about 4 months but that was what I had to do. I'd recommend saving your auth token somewhere to make it easier.
Thanks for the feedback!
The client ID is actually Livestreamer's client ID I found here https://github.com/chrippa/livestreamer/issues/1478
Added info to select the quality, it should be more obvious now.
As to your problem I may have a way to help you:
You can download a twitch VOD using various programs like youtube-dl or livestreamer and watch it locally on your PC/phone. Sorry again for being rude, it was not my intention :/
Also I suggest using livestreamer and livestreamer-twitch-gui. You also need to have VLC Media Player for livestreamer to work. It basically plays the stream in VLC. Generally it has slightly better quality, or so it feels at least, and there are options to change the visuals of the stream around a bit, like increasing or decreasing the saturation and so on. More importantly though livestreamer-twitch-gui has options called "HLS Live Edge" and "HLS Segment Threads" which can help with buffering issues.
Might want to look into it if you don't already use all of those.
Hm, this is weird. I downloaded it from Github and extracted it, shift right clicked the folder and it's telling me, typed in the command line "livestreamer.exe twitch.tv/channelname best" and it tells me. "livestreamer.exe is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file." Did I skip a step somewhere?
Edit: Tried leaving out the .exe too.
Edit: FIXED. I downloaded it from the wrong source I suppose https://github.com/chrippa/livestreamer/releases This is the correct link that got it working. Even has a non .zip straight to setup download.
You can enable Flash for each site if needed. Do you have the right version of Flash installed? There is one for IE and one for NPAPI Browsers like Firefox.
If you don't want to use flash you can try livestreamer (but beware, that's commandline stuff!) or use an alternative GUI.
Kannst du, solltest du aber nicht. Ich benutzte seit einer Zeit livestreamer mit dem dazugehörigen twitch-gui. Funktioniert bestens mit VLC und verbraucht signifikant weniger Resourcen.
Download livestreamer
Open a command prompt
Enter:
Livestreamer http://tv.majorleaguegaming.com/channel/playcevo best
or cevo 2
Both streams have been fine but the website is shitting the bed.
livestreamer + SVP, dl the full package with MPC HC = 144fps interpolation stream
just link to the mpc hc SVP installs in the livestreamerrc and you're golden
Not working for me either - I figured the event would start late because Chinese LANs seem to always be an hour behind, so I didn't try to tune in until now. Preliminary search of github shows that azubu.py (the azubu plugin) was last updated June 2 2015 though so probably try the new version and see if it works;
edit: You can also use the nightly like /u/asdf2asdf1 suggested.
edit2: Also, confirmed that just updating azubu.py to the new version works; no reason to use the nightly which might potentially be unstable other places.
Oh... then you should try using livestreamer which is very similar, if you still have the same issue then it's an issue with your PC that would require way more troubleshooting :(
Install VLC
Install Livestreamer
Open cmd:
livestreamer http://www.twitch.tv/beyondthesummit audio
Changing the url allows you to do this to every stream, so this solution is superior to the dotafm one.
Livestreamer is also a good way to download VODs.
Run the command line:
livestreamer <VOD url> best -o <Output file> livestreamer http://www.twitch.tv/shadowrelic/c/6530083 best -o "C:\Users<User>\Videos\video.mp4"
I dont have any problems with Twitch using Livestreamer.
Also Twitch supports watching games back while live, just not directly in the live stream. You have to watch the most recent past broadcast in the streamers twitch profile, which will be the currently live one. For the current ESL stream for example this would be this right here: http://www.twitch.tv/esl_lol/b/636808897
I'm on Windows 7 as well. A more simplified instructions:
cmd.exe
livestreamer twitch.tv/esl_csgo audio
into the console window. Top copy/paste, just copy it and right click -> paste it.Simple tutorial:
launch a stream by opening the command prompt and typing:
livestreamer STREAMURL QUALITY
where for example STREAMURL = twitch.tv/roomonfire and QUALITY = best so we get
livestreamer twitch.tv/roomonfire best
More help:
http://livestreamer.tanuki.se/en/latest/cli.html
Supported streaming sites:
http://livestreamer.tanuki.se/en/latest/plugin_matrix.html#plugin-matrix
Bonus! Did you know?
I have now, it won't see my install of python-librtmp (installed using the wheel), so it won't do the desktop streams. For the rest is works good tho. Do you have any ideas?
EDIT: https://github.com/chrippa/livestreamer/issues/706 ustream plugin is broken for now. Let's wait for a fix.
If you don't care for the chat you could use ClickToPlugin which works well enough in my experience: http://hoyois.github.io/safariextensions/clicktoplugin/ This uses the built-in QuickTime player which probably saves you some battery life.
There's also Livestreamer which allows you to use VLC for viewing streams: https://github.com/chrippa/livestreamer
You can use Chatty to get access to chat (it's very nice, and it should work on OS X): http://getchatty.sourceforge.net/
EDIT: To get it working as usual you should just be able to install Flash and perhaps restart Safari and it should start working.
try livestreamer
https://github.com/chrippa/livestreamer/releases
all you do is go into command prompt type:
livestreamer [url for the stream] 1080p
NOTE you can change the quality to which ever you would like
Given what tobi says here it's likely that a new version of the dailymotion livestreamer plugin is needed before it'll work again.
edit: As suspected you need to update livestreamer since dailymotion switched from RTMP based streams to HDS as seen in this commit.
The changes haven't propagated to appropriate channels yet so check for updates in a couple of days and it should work again.
Load the stream in VLC player then set it as a DirectX wallpaper.
Download and install this
Then open command prompt and enter
livestreamer twitch.tv/twitchplayspokemon best
Now on VLC, when it opens from the command prompt, click Video on the file menu then select DirectX wallpaper :)
You're using the flash viewer directly on twitch.tv website? I have the same problem (with 120 mbit internet lol)
Solution: livestreamer
(or other twitch player, like xbmc addon)
Here's mine; simpler and a little more robust:
#!/bin/bash
for i in pgrep -f libflashplayer.so
do lsof -p $i | awk '/\/tmp\/Flash/{gsub(/[a-z]*/,"");print"/proc/'$i'/fd/"$2}'
done
> works on all flash sites
Actually this method won't work on rtmp streaming video, like livestreams on twitch/justin.tv, you can use livestreamer for those.
Livestreamer étant abandonné, Streamlink pourrait te convenir et il gère les lives
Is there anyone who's willing to edit the code for livestream, even if it's only just 1 single line, to get this working again ?? For pointing to twitch's new API they require or whatever ??
Is there anything here that can be edited ?? I dont know anything about programming whatsoever... i hope someone around here will know, please :( https://github.com/chrippa/livestreamer
Livestreamer will work, if you add --http-header Client-ID=jzkbprff40iqj646a697cyrvl0zt2m6
. The full command:
livestreamer --http-header Client-ID=jzkbprff40iqj646a697cyrvl0zt2m6 https://www.twitch.tv/gamesdonequick best

From here on I can't really help you on the technical side except of a few things which you might keep in mind.
1.) Be sure your PC has enough ressources. Especially chrome is known for using alot of RAM and 2 tabs of Twitch can already exceed a limit of around 4GB with a few other websites open and 1-2 programs running in the background. (Just check the Task-Manager if you can find something)
2.) Be sure your connection has enough bandwidth. If one stream is working fine it's highly possible that your connection might not be that good (?)
If both of this is given you might want to check out LiveStreamer. It is a program with which you can watch streams on your PC. All you need to have is VLC Media Player. If this is a technical problem with your browser, it'll help you out.
Unable to directly link to the stream's player anymore, if willing to install livestreamer feel free to msg me and I can get you the stream.
Edit: Sorry guys, gave the link to a couple of people and CA blocked access to the stream's playlist file.
You don't have to authenticate anymore. Someone put up a pull request that includes a client ID so the api can stop whining. Just clone from here: https://github.com/chrippa/livestreamer/pull/1483/files
En fait si, par contre il faut mettre à jour ta version de livestreamer pour inclure le merge suivant https://github.com/chrippa/livestreamer/pull/1129
-- edit Je viens de tester avec mpv comme player, ça marche nickel.
https://github.com/chrippa/livestreamer/issues/849
Try --hls-live-edge 99999 in streamer args under advanced(it'll start the stream 99999 segments from end)
edit:
http://docs.livestreamer.io/cli.html?highlight=hls-live#cmdoption--hls-live-edge
edit #2:
--hls-live-edge 99999 is working use it in streamer args
okay, i'm back and tried to record some YT streams (~2 minutes each) and every file is okay, but VLC won't playback anything - not even an error o.O
let's cut down the command and check whats going on:
>C:\Program Files (x86)\Livestreamer\livestreamer.exe https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GAw-Z1DGX6o best
opens the EULCS live stream in VLC player, but only shows the first frame. Looks like YT changed something OR maybe after searching the github issues and it could be a known bug fixable by using a nightly build :/
Sorry for the late reply, was busy/afk.
If you're looking for documentation, check http://docs.livestreamer.io/cli.html out. Or on Linux you could just run
man livestreamer
In general you put all the options directly after livestreamer. I find mpv to run better than VLC on many occasions. So I'm often using something like
livestreamer -v -p "mpv --vo=opengl-hq --hwdec=vdpau --cache=yes --cache-default=16000 --cache-initial=8000" --player-passthrough hls <VIDEO URL> best
Right now I'm only aware of UStream URLs not working, due to livestreamer bug 1122.
NOTE: all of this is on Linux, you probably don't want hwdec=vdpau, at least not on Windows. ;-)
You can keep a window open with the twitch chat without the video stream. It you click on the little gear with the chat options there is a "chat popout" option.
BTW, if twitch streams makes your computer run hot you should consider using livestreamer to view the streams in a native video player (like vlc) instead of in the browser-based video player. Twitch uses Adobe Flash and their video player is a notorious CPU hog.
the website itself is trash.. for me atleast. i have to use 3rd party applications.
for streaming video/audio i use: livestreamer - a command prompt that allows you quick and easy access to any stream's video/audio in 3 steps:
1. winkey+R
2. in the command line type in "livestreamer twitch.tv/streamname source"
3. enter and wait for a couple of seconds
for chatting I either popout the actual chat or use a twitch certified IRC client named Chatty (clickable text).
pros:
+bttv emotes
+frankerfacez emotes
+dashboard access to quickly change your channel's status and game. (under view>channel admin)
+keep easy track of followers/subscribers (under extra>followers/subscribers)
+has bookmarks/addressbooks
+change color schemes/font/other preferential stuff to your liking
+and much much more.
cons:
-yet to provide us with proper whispering channels
-you have to use it as a separate application
Sadly, livestreamer development has kind of stalled. The last commit is 4 months ago, while the list of sites not working with livestreamer anymore is growing fast, due to technology changes etc.
I don't use flash or java, so for twitch and some other sites, as others have suggested, use, livestreamer with an addon like Open with Livestreamer and IRC for chat.
Livestreamer allows you to use the video player of your choice, works for other streaming sites as well, lets you customize your buffer-size and circumvents ads.
There's a gui for twitch if you're not a fan of command lines.
You can download livestreamer and then go to your windows button then open run, or you could hit the windows key and press r at the same time, type in run "livestreamer VODLINK QUALITY". The quality types you can pick is mobile, low, medium, high, source. here is an example "livestreamer http://www.twitch.tv/sodapoppin/v/13457563 low". Sadly, you can't skip around, I think links with the time in the vod work. So yeah, this works good. Hopefully this works. Also you need VLC Player.
Sorry, as it seems you are right it doesn't work properly Source: Bugreport.
It works for vods with an URL like .../b/... but not for .../v/... .
Same for me on Debian Jessie with the same livestreamer version. In my case, maybe it would be a great idea to uninstall the paquage from the Debian deposit, and reinstall livestreamer thanks to pip.
See: https://github.com/chrippa/livestreamer/issues/633 and https://github.com/chrippa/livestreamer/issues/835
Its kind of silly bouncing between youtube/twitch/ingame spectate but so far you have to be flexible if you want to actually watch.
This is my twitch setup, it works great and I don't have to deal with the twitch site/ever see chat.
