Context: This is from Kevin Pietersen's Autobiography.
> During the Bangladesh series I'd worked hard to adapt my game to the increased threat to left-arm spinners. The IPL was a safe haven in that regard, as India has never adopted the DRS system. I think they see human error as part of the fabric of cricket.
> The guy I spoke to the most about the problems I was having was Rahul Dravid. Rahul was a great and heroic Indian batsman in his day. He is also a genius at dealing with spin bowlers. Our conversations and emails were a private masterclass from a genuine guru. Rahul improved my cricket and helped me develop the way I think about the game. His generosity will stay with me always.
> In that spirit, I'll share something and hope my friend doesn't mind: an email Rahul sent me some time ago as part of our conversation about playing different spinners.
> Can you treasure en email? I treasure this..
> <Email by Rahul follows>
> Help through encouragement and wisdom? He had me at Champ. If you love cricket you'll know why I often read that email and smile to myself.
While I'm waiting for the start...
TIL Brad Haddin was behind a rather in-famous tweet, then blamed Watto for it!
Edit: It may be a fake account, but fuck it. Never was a fan of him...
Wow! This is the most prophetic thing I have ever predicted.
Am I a genius or Am I a genius?
I know I'm on a roll, but I promise I'll quit. But 5 years ago, on RSC (the original /r/cricket), i predicted the exact same scenario (I go by the uname tendulkar.com there -- a domain name that I actually own :)

This is not a virus on the phone. It is the stupid Cricinfo app trying to push ads that are linking to malware. If you press the back button while in the app it triggers the web browser and lands on this page. I have had this happen to me a couple of times when in the Cricinfo app. Sad to see a once great app slowly degenerate into a mess.... Read the reviews here

The way it's looking right now is a 3 way tie between Ireland, Pakistan and WI all having 6 points. This is on assumption the following occurs and no games are rained out:
SA beats Pakistan
Ireland beats Zimbabwe
India beats Ireland
WI beats UAE
Pakistan beats Ireland
If that happens then it'll go to NRR, which at this stage will have Pakistan and WI going through.
If Pakistan beats SA tonight then they are likely to end 3rd in the group.
If Ireland beats Pakistan (and Pakistan loses to SA) then Ireland will take 3rd and WI get 4th.
So really, the Ireland v Pakistan game on the last day of the group stage will be the deciding match
Edit: If anyone wants to use my predictor, the file can be found here, just change the names in the Predicted Winner column
good idea. but you still have bing. between bing and google, bing kills it. Just bing "cricket" on bing and you have everything you need. Bing has done a great job and looks like it gets updated faster than Google. Check the standings immediately after the match ang Bing beats Google every time.
Just came across YJB's book
A Clear Blue Sky : A remarkable memoir about family, loss and the will to overcome
As a young boy of eight, Jonny Bairstow was dealt a cruel blow. His father David ‘Bluey’ Bairstow, the combative and very popular wicketkeeper and captain of Yorkshire, took his own life at the age of forty-six.
David left behind Jonny, Jonny’s sister Becky and half-brother Andy, and his wife Janet, who had recently been diagnosed with cancer at the time of his death. From these incredibly tough circumstances, Jonny and his family strived to find an even keel and come to terms with the loss of their father and husband.
Jonny found his way through his dedication to sport. He was a gifted and natural athlete, with potential careers ahead of him in rugby and football, but he eventually chose cricket and came to build a career that echoed his father’s, eventually reaching the pinnacle of the sport and breaking the record for most Test runs in a year by a wicketkeeper.
Got the aircon pumping, beer, snacks, 420, laptop plugged into the telly ready to stream. I haven't seen Afghanistan play before so I'm really excited, should be a cracker.
Looks like omnitv isn't showing this game, but Sky Sports 2 is. The best quality I've found for streaming Sky Sports is acestream - try this one below:
acestream://c36cfe788f185f7e7238b021e738951628336cfe
You will need AcePlayer (http://acestream.org/) to open an acestream link. It's just like a modified VLC that streams the video via Bittorrent. You can also set it up on Android too (see instructions here).
If you need help getting it working, comment or inbox me and I'll help you out. :)
Someone had a question about streams before so I thought it'd be good to put it in the match thread:
Ok. Here is what I do.
I downloaded Acestream which you can get here:
This helps with streaming, in ways that I cannot really explain.
Anyway, once you've installed this, then you can go to http://www.wiziwig.tv/competition.php?part=sports&discipline=cricket
Then, Click on Australia vs South Africa, and then you'll find some Acestream links down the bottom, which you click on and it'll launch the acestream program. And voila, you have HD Cricket for free, much better than Crictime and other flash streams.
If you have a HDMI cable, you can connect up your computer to the TV and play it on the big screen. I find that it's better than Channel 10's coverage of Sochi ( As in Standard definition), but not as good as true High Definition.
Hope all this info helps :)
The rain radar is predicting it will rain until 12. From about 11 Southampton will be the only place in England where there's rain. Literally can't make this stuff up. https://www.accuweather.com/en/gb/southampton/so14-7/weather-radar/330732
Ok, let's crunch the numbers. Rain predicted in 60 mins.
Assuming 14 overs per hour, SL will bat 29 overs.
Here are the par scores for wickets down:
1 down = 101.
2 down = 115.
3 down = 133.
4 down = 157.
5 down = 188.
6 down = 224.

This reminds me of a great book on the history of cricket in South Asia

i know this is a bit late but hopefully this may help someone for the future games. This requires a bit of work but once it's up and running, it's pretty good. I'm watching Yupp TV on it and it's been stable throughout the match.
Here's how to enjoy live cricket:
Install Kodi TV https://kodi.tv/. It's available on PC and Mac.
You can install several video addons to watch live and on-demand TV. Before you install the addons, you need to install a repository which contains it.
The video addon we are interested in is ZEM TV.
For Zem TV, install the "Shani's repository". The whole process is listed here: https://seo-michael.co.uk/how-to-install-zemtv-for-xbmc-kodi/
Once installed, go to Video > Addons > Zem TV > Sports. Yupp TV should be listed there.
Hope this helps.

Hey guys. I have written a book on India's victory in Australia earlier this year. It is my first attempt at book writing, and will definitely help you refresh the memories of the tour. It's roughly 150 pages, and costs just 129 Rs, and lowest Kindle cost price outside India.
Link to the Ebook - https://www.amazon.in/Ajinkya-Bharat-Indias-triumph-Border-Gavaskar-ebook/dp/B096LCNKFP/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=ajinkya&qid=1622934454&s=digital-text&sr=1-1
Thanks for the suggestions the other day as my VPN(TB) was detected by Hotstar and they restricted my access, I bought ExpressVPN which comes with money back guarantee and confirmed with their CS as he said Hotstar plays fine outside India on their VPN.
Looking forward to the IPL and WC, good times
cricket with all its intricacies , techniques and rules is basically a simple game
I just use straps like this
Fights in which both teams rush to the field have almost never happened in the entire history of the game. There have been few words exchanged between a set of players, probably a punch or two, and thats about it. I think we can safely say that fights like yesterdays baseball fight, never occurred in international cricket.
Probably this was the worst cricket fight. But that happened during a local game in a country that doesn't play much international cricket.
Was it 'Out of the Ashes'? Still available on iPlayer - I remember watching it at the time and following the team's rise from Division 4 (maybe 5?) of the World Cricket League all the way to the WC qualifier and then the World T20 shortly afterwards
It's Ian Bell, a beauty from Peter Siddle. Length on off stump, movement away, Bell's prod results in a tickle through to Brad Haddin.
England have lost four wickets for 16 runs today.
Anyone else thinks this umpire is wearing the fuzzy nose disguise (https://www.amazon.com/Accoutrements-Fuzzy-Glasses-Classic-Disguise/dp/B000JNS2ZS)?
Have you tried AirBnB? I use it all the time traveling across the US. I'm on mobile and I did a cursory search https://www.airbnb.com/s/Cardiff--United-Kingdom?source=mob&checkin=07%2F08%2F2015&checkout=07%2F11%2F2015
Looks like you have several options. Good luck!
Looking at dark sky https://darksky.net/forecast/50.8969,-1.3383/si12/en
Gonna rain for one day and Clouderson for four plus one.
Who’s going to win? We don’t know but fuck me its going to be awesome. Cmon cricket!
OP, this is the best I could manage with a bit of googling. Watch and press F if you are a Kohli fan, close the door behind you and carry napkins if you are a Jimmy fan.

Actually, it's brightened up now we're actually in Southampton so who knows, maybe they'll start. Can't imagine they're going to get a full game in though based on this forecast
I would like to share Darksky's forecast on the Oval for Ind v Aus for June 9th. I have found DarkSky to be pretty accurate. I do not work for them, I just revere them for their predictive modeling capabilities.
Rain summary so far:
Game | Rain |
---|---|
ENG v BAN | Unaffected |
AUS v NZ | FUCKED |
SA v SL | Unaffected |
IND v PAK | Severely affected |
AUS v BAN | FUCKED |
ENG v NZ | Basically unaffected |
PAK v SA | Severely affected |
IND v SL | Unaffected |
BAN v NZL | Basically unaffected (delayed start, no over loss) |
ENG v AUS | Severely affected |
Seems like rain is due in an hour and a bit. 4 minutes an over gives about 16-20 overs. Thought I'd check DLS for 3, 4, 5, and 6 down:
Overs | 3 Down | 4 Down | 5 Down | 6 Down |
---|---|---|---|---|
30 | 144 | 157 | 173 | 194 |
35 | 166 | 174 | 186 | 201 |
EDIT: Apparently rain incoming according to Cricinfo. Have you failed me, DarkSky?!

According to accuweather, rain will start again at 5:52 pm. Yeah reduce the game to 20 overs and then take it to the next day. Fuck that.
https://www.accuweather.com/en/gb/manchester/m15-6/minute-weather-forecast/329260
Basically, we're fucked.
But, when SA batted for 148 overs to draw vs Australia at Adelaide in 2012, we were 77/4 at stumps on day four.
Also, we only need 125 per session here.

This is so much fun 😂😂 Abuse this online text-to-voice service by making it read out r/cricket copypastas in a posh English accent

RAIN Perera, pls save us! Imagine if we go home pointless after 9 matches 😢 he may be our best chance of averting such a calamity with a strong performance today
WC Quarter finals are scheduled strangely, usually the winners of the first & second QF would play in the first semi-final(SF).
In the 2014 WC Soccer Q1 & Q2 played in SF1.
This Cricket WC winners of Q1 & Q4 play in the first SF. Which means Q1 winner has 6 days break, while QF4 has 3 days break before the same semi-final.
Is there a reason for this?

Hello all. At this point...is it even worth creating a match thread? Each passing day is more and more frustrating. Once again, here is a brief synopsis on the status of this test match.

Don Bradman had this to say about England's Hedley Verity.
> Nobody had a better record against Don Bradman than Verity, who dismissed him eight times in 17 Tests. "With Hedley I am never sure," said The Don. "You see, there was no breaking point with him."
I encourage fans from both sides to watch the video of the incident:

If you don't want to stop using apps like the other replier said, you should 100% be using a filter. My preferred android app to do this is adguard. Note that it will consume significantly more battery though.
I ordered these. PUMA Cricket Shoes - Rubber Outsole - Virat Kohli One8 Edition Cricket Shoes https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B07SMSMH7P/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_VW7HGTHG9EXJ12R63ZS4
Only One8’s I could find in Australia.
Nabu Press is one of those places which has literally taken 100s of thousands of "copyright free" books (those over 75 years old or so with no copyright renewal), scan them as PDFs, put a back and front cover on it, and sell them (as "print on demand") to people who maybe interested in the "historical value" of the material. They have virtually no inventory (except what's on their computers), low overhead, and the profit potential can be HUGE if you happen to hit upon an old title that will actually sell even a few units.... So if you can't get to the NYPL, you may wish to purchase this scanned in reprint for whatever Amazon is charging (unless you take its ISBN to something like bookfinder DOT com and find it somewhere else for slightly cheaper)....
Note, it's also available under this US heading: https://www.amazon.com/Manual-Cricket-Illustrations-Cricketers-Important/dp/034193478X/ref=tmm_hrd_swatch_0?_encoding=UTF8&qid=&sr= -- and it is also available in Australia under that ISBN (034193478X) as well as it is in the USA....
How to avoid Sanju Manju:
Use this link
Download ProtonVPN if you're on Android and iOS (check for PC, I'm not sure), it's free and unlimited usage if you choose US, Netherlands or Japan.
Have fun.
2nd T20I ( IND vs SL) tonight but Dharamshala's weather is still not looking good😐
5°C Temperature & 72% chance of rain. It's gonna b cold & cloudy. Just hope rain doesn't washout the match & we get a great competitive match
https://www.accuweather.com/en/in/dharmsala/188520/hourly-weather-forecast/188520
Don't be fooled, folks - this is classic Parnyboy. Long periods of mediocrity in domestic cricket followed by a short (very short) burst of good performances...and then back to mediocrity again. He continually bottles the big pressure moments (a memorable one last year was when a bowled a no-ball off the last ball of a domestic limited-overs game, handing the opposition the win).
Not at all.
1) Download adaway from trusted apk store like F-Droid
2) Install the apk
3) Open the app. Give it root access permission. It'll guide you through
4) Reboot
Australia's Channel 9 (or WIN) televises all the Australian International matches played in Australia - so pretty much only over the summer. Here's a list of the Australian team's matches this season.
I'm not sure what you mean by different competitions, each country has its own team and they all play each other. Most countries also have a competition made of teams representing states/counties/large areas. Or you might mean the 3 different formats of the game - to put it very basically, they're just different lengths.
Accuweather says rain will end in 5 mins. Let's see how accurate they are :)
https://www.accuweather.com/en/gb/bristol/bs1-6/weather-forecast/327328
You say that but there are instances (in Football) whereby teams have deliberately lost to attempt to face weaker oppostion:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1998_AFF_Championship
Or just lost (149-0 via own goals) as a form of protest.
https://www.theguardian.com/football/2002/nov/29/newsstory.sport13
That said I would like to see anyone convince Kohli and AB not to try and win. They are competitors.
The dew factor in Mumbai in March is 15°. In Melbourne, it's just slightly less than 15°
And in Mumbai today, it's 25°, clearly unfit for D/N Test cricket with a pink ball.
But if you can play D/N cricket in Australia with 15° dew point, then you can do the same in Mumbai at the exact same dew point.
That should be enough bench line data.
>Once you have the data, then decide if white balls can be considered or do we have any way to improve the pink balls for that
We already tried white balls for Test D/N cricket way back in 1997, it didn't quite work out. BCCI were the ones to push for D/N Test cricket at first, in fact.
edit: s/D\/N cricket/Test D\/N cricket

First retractable rooft stadium was built in 1967 of height 79m for baseball!
That's 1967!! This is 2018. That was for baseball, a sport not that different from cricket in when it comes to shots hit. This is 21st century, not 1860s. Definitely 80m height of a retractable roof stadium is enough for the few days a stadium gets rain. Fuck you all who speak of "weather conditions required for cricket". That's bullshit. If there is rain, pull in the roof and play.
That's not the only one. There are other retractable roof stadiums with enough height.
The boards are not going to put in money and that's the sole reason. Plus some people who think cricket "needs" weather.

What life as an England cricketer is really like Ever wondered what it's like playing Test Cricket?
What really goes on tour and beyond the boundary rope?
Here, for the first time, the world of a pro-cricketer is revealed, and the man pulling back the dressing room curtains is one of England's greatest ever cricketers: James 'Jimmy' Anderson. 565 Test Wickets and counting.
Written with Felix White: musician, cricket enthusiast and Anderson's co-host on BBC Five Live's phenomenally popular podcast 'Tailenders', Jimmy invites us all into his world of cricket. Full of test-match sized stories and 20/20 anecdotes, this book contains everything you've dreamed of asking a top cricketer. And Jimmy provides the answers and insights into this world on and off the pitch.
We tackle the big questions. And, importantly, the small ones;
Do cricketers really watch Countdown instead of the Test whilst waiting to bat?
What are those conversations in the slip cordon?
And what does he eat as a tailender?

We might get a 40 minute bout of rain in about an hour but that seems it. Just might be able to squeeze in a T20.
Been done a couple of times in Australia, from memory. Not necessarily for internationals - one case was a domestic one day cup final in Queensland (ref), but I'm pretty sure I've seen it done for an international at either the SCG or MCG at least once.
It looks like we'll have [some] play today! The question is - how much? To repeat myself from yesterday - Can Vijay reach his hundred? Will Dhawan get a double? Or can Bangladesh pull things back?

Not on YouTube, but Sky will be streaming for free via NowTV on the first day, per this:
>Fans can get their free Sky Sports Day Pass on the day of the first Test held at the SWALEC Stadium, Cardiff by clicking here and using the code NOWTVASHES. Visitors to NOW TV will only be able to use the voucher code to get a free pass on Wednesday 8th July. The offer ends at 23.59pm on 8 July.
Limited to the UK, I'd guess.
In case anyone else wanted to know, here's one of the songs that played in the background while the score from the previous Test was on screen:
Drama Drama by Music Beyond https://www.shazam.com/track/541399181/drama-drama
I originally heard this trumpets-followed-by-cheers thing at the rugby world cup in France which made it easier to find this:
> It comes from Spain and is heard in the local Spanish "ferias", which means feasts. The trumpet sound is the beginning of a famous Spanish "paso-doble", paso-doble (two step) being a typical piece of Spanish music played by "wind" instruments (trumpets, saxophones, etc) and suited to the sound, drama, and movement of the Spanish bullfight.
Hope this helps

A great book on the origins of baseball and how its relationship to cricket (among many other points) is Playing For Keeps by Warren Goldstein
Just to crib his points to help answer the central question - baseball was not invented because cricket was too hard to play, it developed as various regional variations of stick-and-ball games like cricket, rounders and townball. The ruleset that came to be adopted nationally in the 1850s was invented by the New York Knickerbockers club in the 1840s, and was popular for encouraging manliness and fraternity (much like cricket), being exciting to watch and yes, slightly less 'scientific'/complex than cricket - there was even concern that by ruling that a catch only counted if the ball didn't touch the ground would make the game too much like cricket and alienate players and spectators
Baseball's roots as the 'American' sport come out of the Civil War and national rebuilding efforts, which is absolutely why it grew in popularity and cricket, the 'English' sport, declined. The game itself wasn't invented as an alternative to cricket's complexity, but it did develop as a more accessible and perceivedly more exciting game to play (other opinions are available), and as a game that was embraced by cities like New York
Holy shit this needs to be republished somehow, that's amazing.

Don't use Hola. They are super duper shady, they use the extension to sell your bandwith to third parties and use you as a tor portal. Additionally the extension itself is super insecure, to the point it's basically malware. Use or TunnelBear instead.
