I'm currently rocking Relay for Reddit.. Hand's down the best Reddit app I've used. Paging u/dbrady!

Edit: best feature imho... ಠಠ(☞゚ヮ゚)☞(••)

I still don't get why the Official Reddit App limits the length of comment chains arbitrarily.
Here's the goodbye comment that already exists. No need to comment 'Goodbye'. It's already there.
I reccomend Reddit Is Fun for Android, honestly. It's much better than the official app, for me at least. Link for the lazy
The link in this OP didn't work for me on mobile, even putting it in the browser.
And when I finally got it, I can't run it. Crashes immediately, I sent in a report
For the lazy Android users: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.reddit.frontpage
Edit: For those wondering, I had found it on Reddit's twitter.
An app announced on Facebook, seemingly invisible on Play Store, was eventually found through a bit.ly link on Twitter.
Edit 2: Fixed
I'm the creator of the ad-free and open source Slide for Reddit, which has become one of the most popular 3rd party clients on Android over the last year, and is coming to iOS soon!
In high school, I started Slide with little development experience as a learning exercise, but my project ended up gaining a lot of popularity in the Android and FOSS community pretty quickly, and I ended up teaching myself everything I currently know about software development, UI design, customer service, and marketing. I am now studying software engineering (and have a part time marketing and photography position) in college, and creating other free and open source apps. You can AMA here if you'd like or I can do a more official AMA later this week if you're interested :)
Sync for Reddit. Play store and subreddit.
I've used quite a few reddit apps both on Android and iOS, and sync just stands out above all others for me. The menu structure makes navigating through reddit/the app so easy, and the layout of posts/comments is great.
Bought the pro version years back and haven't yet found anything to drag me away from it.
About time it is released. Signed in on Android, liking it so far. Play store link for the lazy.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.reddit.frontpage
Edit: Confirmed Android also gets 3 months free gold for signing in on it.
Pocket Casts is a paid app which is very clean, simple, and easy to use. It lists a lot of popular feeds. I've been using it for a few years and I have no complaints.
Can someone explain why almost everybody posts videos without sound? There is missing like 80% of the data.
Edit: turns out that Relay for Reddit is a really good app that solves many or all UI/UX problems with reddit.
Always used Relay for Reddit, never seen an advertisement outside of the ad supported free version, which I didn't have for long before I bought it). It's evolved into something truly beautiful over the years!
Play store link: Relay for reddit
I like how we have a button for advertising
Play store link: Relay for reddit
You might be using Google Play Music (or any other podcast app) for podcasts
You should be using Pocket Casts for podcasts.
When you want to use that feature on reddit, there are two simple ways:
Buy reddit gold and it will sync automatically
http://synccit.com/ Create an account … install the plugin … install a android / iphone app which works with synccit.
Have fun browsing through reddit with visited links!
If you're even seeing avatars, you're on the wrong app and version of Reddit. Relay (or your preferred 3rd party app) and old.reddit.com are the way to go.

Dev checking in, this is a fairly big update but these are the highlights:
The last version (V12) also added "peeking" to images (long press to see a speedy low bandwidth preview).
Cheers!
Laurence
I recommend Pocket Casts on Android. Best couple of bucks I ever spent, has most every podcast published and syncs across devices/pc's link on play store
The official reddit app is so good!
Just kidding. It's worth downloading for 3 months free gold though, and it seems to load things faster than reddit is fun so it has potential once features arrive.
Try Sync for Reddit if you're on Android. The app is awesome, the developper is even awesome-r and the community around the app is great too.
EDIT: r/redditsync is the app's subreddit for suggestions and bug reports, etc.
I (mainly) use Boost. It was the first app that felt right to me! So, I feel unsatisfied with the rest.
Official app has limited customization options. Most unofficial app has some unique features to distinguish it from the pack. Boost is highly customizable; Joey is optimized for some popular subreddits; Relay has a very interesting UI; RedReader is very minimal; etc.
Play store link: Boost for reddit
Hijacking this:
Boost for Android is literally a million times better than normal reddit, so much that you start wondering wtf is going on with the development of the main app.
I've installed Slide for reddit in the last week and have to admit that's the best reddit app I've used so far.
The really enthusiastic dev is the icing on the cake.
Relay just received a huge new update. I highly recommend it. Check out this video to see it in action. It has an OLED theme too.
Boost is a great Reddit client with AMOLED full dark mode.

I've been using it for years and could not be happier. Extensive functionality and customability, consistent support from the developer.

Android?
Play store link: Relay for reddit
Give Podcast Addict a try.
EDIT: By the way, Pocket Casts allows you to a significant amount of organization using playlists (or categories? - forget the name, haven't used recently).
Boost for reddit, my reddit client of choice, just got a huge update in the beta channel and it's absolutely great!
To italicize, put an asterisk before and after the text you want in italics. Ex: * words * but without spaces between the letter and asterisk will show words
To show bold, do the same thing but with 2 asterisks before and after the text you want in bold. Ex: ** words ** but without spaces between the letter and asterisks will show words
To >quote
Put a ">" before the text you want to quote. Ex: >quoted words will show
>quoted words
Everything you type will be in quote mode until you make a new paragraph. It is possible to italicize and bold inside of quotes
Some Android clients have cool little toolbars that pop up over your keyboard for italics, bolding, quoting, adding links, and previewing what your about to post. I use Boost for Reddit. iOS might have clients that do this as well but I never tried anything on there besides the official app
Hope this helps, OP
Edit: to ~~strikethrough~~, put two tildes (~ x2) before and after the text you want struckthrough. Ex: ~~ words ~~ but without the spaces between the word and tildes will show ~~words~~
Play store link: Relay for reddit
That's so cool
The app that made me fall in love with reddit. I've not used reddit on PC much, but this app pretty much made me check in everyday.
Everything about its UX, UI and features feels great on mobile.
I've tried the other clients and the official app, but nothing comes close to this app.
I made a domain filter for their site, never seen them again. It's great.
edit: To clarify, I use RES to do it with Reddit in my browser, with similiar functionality in my preferred mobile Reddit app, Sync for Reddit. The first time Google Now tried to show my an article from them I selected Never show news from this site again. Between those couple steps, that's eliminated them entirely.
I keep hearing all these terrible things you Official Reddit App users have to put up with and I keep wondering why you don't switch apps? I've never used the official reddit app once.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.laurencedawson.reddit_sync&hl=en&gl=US
seriously no excuse.
The official Reddit app is pretty bad. It stutters on every device I have tried. It also doesn't look good or provide any customization. Have you tried the good Reddit apps, like Boost?
I started working last year and the daily commute coming and going to work by bus has been vastly improved with this app.
Variable speed and cutting silence means I can listen to all my podcasts per week and I can keep sane while waiting for a bus or riding a packed bus.
Awesome app, I've had playback issues maybe twice since I installed it but they were fixed immediately. Good customer support too. (Motorola device specific)
I bought the web version aswell and I don't really use it that much but it's useful when you need it.
Podcast Addict. Not the flashiest user interface but it's good where it counts. Highly configurable with actually useful options. Free to use without ridiculous limitations.
Hands down my favorite podcast app. Active development and very responsive to any bug reports, this app is the flagship of Google's MD ambition. I remember they took a while to implement the new design when Google launched it, but wow did they knock it out of the park from day one. None of that left slide out drawer + FAB nonsense.
Try Reddit Sync ("Sync for Reddit" in the Play store). It works way better than the desktop or mobile sites on Android. Easy to browse subreddits, sync a bunch of pages if you want to save data while on WiFi, and you can rearrange favorite subreddits (swiping from the left) making it easy to quickly get to your favorite ones. Side bar is swipe from the right too, it's very mobile friendly.
And the Dev is fairly active on Reddit.
Relay for Reddit is my favorite.

Edit: who knew silly tribalism extends even to Reddit mobile apps? Let the people like what they like! :)
But what about relay?

I used RiF for several years until I found Relay. You should check it out.

After lots of people on Reddit told me to use "Reddit is fun" app instead. I am now part of the people telling others to use the "Reddit is fun" app instead.

Joey for reddit : The best Reddit client right now. It streams match threads. Has passcode lock. Free and ad free.
Timbre : Video/audio editor. Cut, join and convert video and audio files. Free and ad free.
New version is out of beta and available for anyone.
Official announcement: Boost for reddit 1.9.0 - Flair emojis, new awards, save favorite searches, highlight new comments, reply with secondary account, block users and a lot more!

Having Reddit Gold will remove ads in Relay too. It also enables cross device syncing for read items (although this has to be activated in your Reddit settings first).
I use Relay and I love it
Play store link: Relay for reddit
Two really really great apps:
Love Pocket Casts. One of the most used apps on my phone. Really clean and slick design. Especially like how the the interface colour automatically adjusts to match the album art of the current pod cast.
Also, I had no idea they release web access. Definitely be using that
I prefer relay
Play store link: Relay for reddit
It even has this neat button to help me promote it.
Another good reddit app is boost
Play store link: Relay for reddit
It even provides a handy link to download
Play store link: Relay for reddit
Even comes with a handy download link ;)
Guys I found a better alternative if you browse on mobile theirs an app called Boost it has a better video player and you can download any post you see without a water mark or anything
For Android:
Play store link: Relay for reddit
Reddit is Fun is a reddit client which is not in the wiki. It's a sexy client which is compact and has many features (mod tools being a major one of them). The free version has all the features of the paid version except that it has ads (tell me what devs do that these days?). The ads can also be disabled if you don't use the moderator features. It has a compact view which is quite information dense. There's also great theme support including dark themes and card views. The RiF community is very active and the dev is quite fast in answering questions. He doesn't talk much though
EDIT : link - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.andrewshu.android.reddit
I also was going to say my Reddit app (Boost, just in case you need to know)
That said, Google Assistant. I've been having a lot of fun lately playing audio games with my kids (6&8).. they can play Mad Libs over and over.
Relay for Reddit Is one of the best around. Highly customizable, very stable. Also a great community subreddit with active participation from the dev at r/RelayforReddit.
I'm a big fan of Relay for reddit been using it for 5+ years
Relay for Reddit has awesome formatting features for posts and comments
Has ok look to it too I guess
Play store link: Relay for reddit
Oh yeah, and you can close sub threads too.
Good job. :)
Also, if you have an android and want a client that does this for you, Reddit Is Fun has the formattinf available so you don't have to remember it.

Assuming he's on mobile, the Relay for reddit app tells you how big the gif is as it's downloading. Useful for those of use who aren't lucky enough to still be grandfathered into an unlimited data plan.
Play store link: Boost for reddit
Boost For Reddit is an extremely well made Reddit app, I used almost all the ones out there and I kept coming back to Boost. The dev (u/rmayayo) also listens to the community and keeps everyone in the loop about what's going on. 10/10
I like Reddit Is Fun
Pros:
It's been around for a while, so tried and tested it seems to work pretty well
Displays very similar to stock "desktop" reddit does
simple and very easy to use
doesn't delete any comments in a comment thread
Cons:
simple and doesn't really have super fancy add-on features or subreddit specific css(still shows flair though, text only)
sometimes gyfcat and imgur links get stuck loading and you have to open in browser to view them
I don't think there is any reddit app available without a free version. Just try them out and see if you like it. I personally like Sync because of its UI and how it implemented material design. The image previews are very nice as well.
Link me: Now for Reddit, Relay for Reddit, Sync for Reddit, Slide for Reddit, BaconReader, RedReader

Relay for reddit seems to work perfectly for me! Try it.
Thanks for the shout out!
For those on the fence or have never used Sync I've started to create a list of unique features:
I also found out Joey allows me to put my phone and available ram lol
Joey for Reddit | 1.5.6.4 (115) |
---|---|
Android | 9 (28) |
Phone | google/Pixel 2 XL/taimen/taimen |
RAM | 3.58 GB |
If on Android, Relay is your friend

Check out Reddit Is Fun if you're on Android. It's my preferred app.
EDIT: Links for the free version: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.andrewshu.android.reddit
RiF GP to support the developer: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.andrewshu.android.redditdonation
I use Podcast Addict, which allows you to download episodes. Also, you could install a file managing system on your device (what i use) and download the episodes from the website. Then just play the episodes through the file managing app.
I use Relay For Reddit as an Android Reddit client.
We have a sound button that we can toggle on when a Guv have sound available.
Play store link: Relay for reddit
Try Sync for Reddit. I think it has good mod support (even though I've never tried it), the app is awesome, the developper is even awesome-r and the community around the app is great too.
/r/redditsync is the app's subreddit for suggestions and bug reports, etc.
EDIT: Typo.
Give PocketCasts a try, costs a few bucks but well worth it. Comes with a online tool that you can listen to podcasts from a web browser but its not free.
I use a third party app, Sync for Reddit. It's super customizable and highly polished, but it also has a really robust filter feature. I filter out all posts that have the word "broadcast" in the post flair, so I only vaguely remembered that this broadcast shit even existed.
Time to get a better app. Hope you're not on an iPhone!

Joey is a reddit app, and there are 3 big things that I love about it.
1) It mimics collapsible comments from the desktop site, I used to use the desktop site in chrome before this, and while I am still getting used to using an app for reddit on my phone, this is the biggest thing holding me back
2) AMOLED theme
3) Notifications on my phone from reddit.
I love the series, but can you use the reddit.com/r/bert... instead of the reddit.app.link links? I use another reddit app Sync for reddit and it has to open the other app everytime I click on a link
As an alternative check out Pocket Casts. I haven't used AntennaPod so I can't say it's better or worse, it's just what I personally use and I'm just throwing another option out there for you.
/r/redditsync
Seriously. Try it. /u/ljdawson's development ideal is basically "build the reddit client google would build"
Relay gang checking in.

Since everyone is replying alternatives I'm gonna suggest Relay for Reddit. Play store link: Relay for reddit
Relay for reddit for me almost exclusively.
I use RES when at the desktop, too. I assume that's why I haven't seen any changes there, either.
Stricly no ads and free is redditisfun , no headaches at all and no learning curve it will work just like the desktop UI .

Boost for Reddit allows you to define any number of filters to control which posts you see (or don't see!)
EDIT: on official Android app, and I do not visit "adult" subs. See Play store app at https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.reddit.frontpage
Contacted the ad department - email at .
I expect they won't do jack, but it was worth a try. Totally cool that underage kids might be referred to the site by Reddit! It's all good! /s
While I am contributing to the problem for now, I'm hoping this gets picked up and people pressure their stupid, unethical ad team.
Please let me know if you have a better Reddit company contact to send this too. Thanks!
I use sync for reddit and it doesn't freeze one bit, it's 100 times better than the official app
Play store link: Sync for reddit
Ditto. I use Reddit all the time, hate Reddit mobile and redesign, which gives me little confidence in their app. Dev seems active and friendly. Plus I can do this (งツ)ว. Worth.
Play store link: Sync for reddit
Firefox (Google doesn't need more info, and you can use adblock)
Textra (better SMS app, if you text a lot)
