The short week I used it before it shut down (really bad luck) was very nice. It was a well designed app for sure and the articles seemed competent. The updates to developing stories were also well done as I remember.
I've been using AP Mobile now instead, it still seems pretty unbiased and unfluffed, although for that part that seems to be more out of monetary gain than simply a pure-hearted objective since they license a lot of their content out to other agencies. Maybe that's the cynic in me talking, but whatever keeps them honest I guess?
Here's why you won't be coming into my home.
Related, why WSJ won't get my subscription.
PSA to all, Associated Press articles are free and most major news papers use them to write their own. Also they have a decent Android app with dark mode!
Don't watch cable news channels. Try reading content from any of these:
Here's the thing. Media outlets differ in their bias and in their presentation. Some present the facts only, with minimal interpretation or persuasion. The above outlets mostly just report facts, with no significant political or ideological bias.
Other outlets pick and choose facts to support a specific narrative or to manufacture a narrative, and they try to persuade the audience towards one viewpoint. For example, CNN and MSNBC push establishment corporate Democrat narratives (identity politics, outrage culture, intentionally omitting facts that don't support their narrative, attack Trump over nonsense and ignore the really bad and dangerous things he does).
Others do the same, but taken to extremes. They push outright lies or hearsay and pass it off as news, and/or they present facts and then put extreme ideological or political spins on the facts. For example, FOX News pushes a narrative that conservative Christian white America is under constant attack by liberals, poor people, Democrats, immigrants, etc. They pushed the "COVID-19 fear is Democratic hysteria and there's nothing to worry about" narrative for weeks (maybe FOX News is still pushing this narrative on some shows; I don't know) and the ongoing "Obama and Democrats are trying to open the borders and sabotage our country" narrative.
It's not hard to find fair and useful news sources (go back to the beginning of my comment).
Try reading from sources with good writing. If you can afford the subscription, I strongly encourage you to get The Economist.
If not, there's Associated Press with their own app for free. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=mnn.Android&hl=en
It is essential that Bernie picks the new top brass at the DNC to enable his run in 2020.
AP has a much more comprehensive story on this, and John Kirby essentially said that the money was being held as leverage in case Iran backed out of releasing the prisoners:
> "We had concerns that Iran may renege on the prisoner release," Kirby said, citing delays and mutual mistrust between countries that severed diplomatic relations 36 years ago. As a result, he explained, the U.S. "of course sought to retain maximum leverage until after the American citizens were released. That was our top priority."
So in a way, it WAS ransom...except that instead of Iran holding our prisoners in exchange for money, we were holding their money in exchange for our prisoners. And as you say, we were going to have to give them the money anyway (and by settling, we didn't have to pay them nearly as much), we may as well get something extra.
Suspect identified and terrorism suspected.

LIWONDE NATIONAL PARK, Malawi (AP) — Half a dozen African elephants lay strewn on a riverside plain in Malawi, immobilized by darts fired from a helicopter in a massive project to move 500 elephants, by truck and crane, to a sanctuary for the threatened species. >• As development squeezes Africa's wildlife areas, this kind of man-made animal migration is increasingly seen as a conservation strategy in Malawi, one of the continent's most densely populated countries, and beyond.
>• Conservationists flipped the prostrate elephants' large ears over their eyes to block out light, and propped open the tips of their trunks with twigs to ensure unimpeded breathing.
>• African Parks, which manages all three Malawian reserves, is moving the 500 elephants this month and next, and again next year when vehicles can maneuver on the rugged terrain during southern Africa's dry winter.
>• There is some risk and stress in drugging and moving the animals, though South African conservationists and the commercial wildlife industry have refined and shortened the process over the years.
>• The Malawi relocation is "a win-win for elephants and people" and an example of wildlife management that "will likely become the new norm in many places in Africa," said Bas Huijbregts, African species expert for the WWF conservation group.

No they didn't they were going to redact names but in the end they didn't even do that...Fox as usual wrong!
>The Justice Department said in a statement it initially withheld the names so as not to give extremists "a publicity platform for hateful propaganda," but the omissions became an unnecessary distraction.
