I'm reading "Washington: A Life" by Ron Chernow right now so I can answer this question. First of all, being the commander-in-chief for the entire continental army for eight years teaches you a lot of the skills you'll need as president, including not only executive responsibility but also political dealings with congress. He was fighting constantly with congress to get the money, men and supplies he needed to fight and win the war.

While Washington was supreme commander of the armed forces, he was appointed by congress and conducted himself as subordinate to congress.

He was the single most qualified person to be president at that time.

The original poster claimed that gender separation was what made Islam bad or sexist opposed to other religions, when the same level (or worse) was present in others - and hence my response. In general though, the thing is Jewish people have been raised in a socially progressive environment, while a lot of the Muslim world haven't yet caught up. There are Muslim responses, just like there are Jewish responses, to the sexism that seems apparent within their communities and texts.
