I'd been watching old torrented copies with my 7 and 3 year old kids and we've been loving every second. I miss this show terribly and feel like LeVar Burton was the closest kids had ever had to a worthwhile successor to Fred Rogers. If he's asking for money to bring something like Reading Rainbow back, then it should be a no-brainer.
But you don't have to take my word for it!
Which of course was nothing to do with being a veteran or disabled, and everything to do with Trump;
<strong>Donald Trump has a very strange theory about exercise</strong>
This sucks to have to say, but....
I grew up in the south, around a lot of black people, raised by relatively bigoted parents. LeVar Burton was one of my first role models, and memories, as a child. Laying in the backroom of the house watching reading rainbow. I didn't realize that black people and white prople were different at all until my parents tried to instill their prejudices in me at a later age. Of course, growing up and playing sports with black kids helped negate their bullshit, but LeVar Burton made that possible. All I knew about black guys from my own experiences, until I was like 8, was that they read me fucking books on TV. And to me, that was pretty fucking cool. It definitely laid the groundwork to break free from my parents segregation era views.
Edit: I know the top comment has it already, but repetition seems to be the key to getting people to listen and/or visit...so:
Keep in mind the context is very important in determining what is harassment. Complimenting a women in a bar likely isn't, shouting at a woman on the street likely is. Depending on how the YouGov surgery went down the one third that said it was harassment may have been thinking more along the lines if catcalling.
I like to share this Dr. Nerlove article where they call someone a "bad parody of a femenist" (in a loving way) for thinking that hitting on a woman is always harassment.
In Diary of a Hangman the author, an executioner in the 1500s noted that most the people he executed in his career were frequent past audience members to executions.
If Harris were still with us, he'd be doing what he always did: writing insanely funny things while only being in about second gear, refusing to try any harder because he didn't have to in order to be successful, infuriating me and like 400 other people on a daily basis, and going to Phish concerts when he was supposed to be working. I miss him every day.
***Hi, I'm editing this to add that Harris's sister Stephanie has written a book about him, and it comes out soon. Aziz wrote the intro. You can pre-order it here: https://www.amazon.com/Everything-Horrible-Wonderful-Tragicomic-Memoir/dp/1492664103/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1515106133&sr=8-1&keywords=stephanie+wittels
Normally it wouldn't matter but I'm gonna have to verify with it coming from you.
Edit: I verified it myself. Trust no one. Keep your enemies close and Ben & Jerry's closer.
123 comments posted so far and I don't see a single mention of JustWatch. It is the single best resource for searching for streaming media that I have found.
I sub to Netflix, Hulu, HBO, and Amazon Prime. With this one website I can search them all for something to watch. And yes, you can search by genre.
The entire season 1 dropped on Amazon, you can sign up for a free 30 day trial - https://www.amazon.com/The-Quest-Begins/dp/B01I2BBWQ4/
been waiting for today for a while! can't wait, episode 1 is GREAT
edit: must have prime for the free trial apparently! (if a family member (possibly friend) has prime, they can add you, this works because this is how I have prime!)
I've read and heard so much good and bad about Prince, I have no idea what to believe. Back when ?uestlove used to post on the OKPlayer forums (he might still, I have no idea) he was full of awesome Prince stories. Prince's guest hosting appearance on the new Muppet Show is one of the all-time funniest things I've ever seen and it's just him making fun of himself the entire time.
EDIT: Intro: http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=0Os4Qs2GAq4
EDIT: Rest of show: https://myspace.com/mike.couey/video/muppets-tonight-featuring-prince-/22721159
Sorry for the MySpace link. It's the best I could find. The entire show is still hilarious. IIRC, this was during the few years where Prince had completely isolated himself from the entertainment world. Like, he just disappeared for a while and no one could reach him. Apparently, he loved the Muppet show and asked them if he could be a guest star.
Neither CNN nor New York Times have a single mention of the word "drone" on their big frontpages today (arguably the biggest whistleblowing story of this year, showing that 90% of the US assassinations targets innocents). Both contain "lamar odom" though, so I guess all is fine.
I recommend Pocket Casts on Android. Best couple of bucks I ever spent, has most every podcast published and syncs across devices/pc's link on play store
Hey dude! I was in the same exact boat as you. First one when I was 21-22. Ended up living 2-3 years of hell with daily panic attacks (Not to freak you out!), but let me tell you what, this an important time to get professional help. There is a right way to go about things and the wrong way. Ignoring it and letting it happen over and over again is not the way to tackle it. Notice how with Bill Hader he may have had a panic attack, but he went and got done what was needed. Every time you have a panic attack and think you're out of control of yourself and avoid doing things because of the fear of a panic attack you give it more validation. The key to getting past a panic attacks and anxiety is to not give credence to them. It's okay and natural to have them. It's your body recognizing something (often something irrational) as dangerous and evoking the fight or flight response.
I know I'm just some random internet stranger but know now that a Panic Attack cannot kill you. It cannot hurt you. It can only make you feel funny. Go on with your day regardless of it. Don't fight them. Acknowledge the anxiety "Hello again anxiety. Welcome back. I'm going to go about my day now even if you're there". and move along with your day anxiety or not. I realize this is an oversimplistic explanation and that different approaches work for different people. I went from multiple panic attacks daily to being able to live a normal, happy life. I still have anxiety. Occasionally a panic attack, but I no longer dread them. If you're serious I recommend a book At Last a Life that was what helped me break through on how to approach anxiety and panic attacks. If you ever need anyone to reach out to feel free to shoot me a DM.
Thanks to you /u/direhound for elaborating. If you are interested in more information on my post please do not just take my post as is and look into Acceptance and Commitment Therapy.
hmm, appears my memory wasn't as clear. It was a few guys that were charged and police/high school may have been trying to cover it up. I remember reading about parents being upset that it was likely a lie but that was while it was happening years ago. Some news sites were only talking about how it'll ruin the careers of the players and never really focused on the victim either. It was all pretty fucked up.

here's a a bit on it but theres more you can read up on.
Yea. The issue isn't that the NFL isn't aware of this option, it's that DirecTV is willing to give them a shit ton of money guaranteed. Why mess with a good thing? The NFL would have to be convinced an a la carte method would be very profitable before they'd switch.
(I'm assuming we're not talking about the NFL ditching the basic networks - I don't think they'll even consider something like that for a few decades since they would lose a large portion of their audience.)
And considering NFL Sunday Ticket is probably directly or indirectly responsible for a huge portion of DirecTV's subscriptions, I'd imagine they wouldn't go down without a fight.
>DirecTV's deal with the NFL for a Sunday Ticket package is so vital to its service that AT&T's merger with the company could be scuttled if it falls through. AT&T included an option to walk away from the DirecTV deal if the satellite provider fails to renew the exclusive NFL agreement.
>In late August, DirecTV was close to a deal with the NFL for a Sunday Ticket package that would increase its average annual rights fee to between $1.3 billion and $1.4 billion over the next decade, according to a report by Sports Business Journal.
Barnes & Noble link. It's not the eighth book, it's the script to a stageplay, but it's still another Harry Potter book.
yay, someone unacquainted with watchmen!! i love explaining this to people.
first of all, it is important to know which version of the movie to watch. there are three versions, and they are all on amazon prime video:
the theatrical version is 2h 42mins, the director’s cut is 3hr 6mins, and the ULTIMATE cut is 3h 35mins.
i would recommend watching the ultimate edition, BUT you only need to do this once, for reasons that will be apparent after you’ve finished it.
the theatrical cut is, imo, completely pointless. don’t bother. the directors cut is the way to go; i’ve seen the movie six times and that one is the best mix between long enough and not too long.
once you’ve seen the ultimate version, read the book! it is the definitive watchmen experience and is an incredibly deep and well-crafted piece of literature. i finished it and then immediately restarted it to catch all the little details i missed the first time around. here’s the link!
enjoy :)
in the brilliant show Review it ends 3 episodes into Season 3. It's a fitting ending, just comes abruptly after season 1 & 2 having 9 & 10 episodes respectively.
This book, which was written with the full knowledge and cooperation of Batali, contains several scenes of borderline or actual sexual harassment by Batali. And it’s always explained away as, that’s just how celebrity chefs are.
Reading that book when it first came out gave me a new respect for what a talented chef he is, while leaving me disgusted by what a shitty human he is.
Crazy to think that book was published just a decade ago.
The Sony hacked emails hinted at this. Source

Wow, I cannot express the thanks I feel right now...I posted this thinking it was going to be a dead end and went about my day. Just woke up to see this amazing response!
Thank you thank you thank you! It's so awesome to see and hear my grandfather again! He passed in 2008.
I incorrectly remembered that he interviewed with my grandmother (passed in 2011), but his sister Carolita who is on the couch next to him is still very much alive! I'll make sure she sees this!
Thank you for keeping a little part of my family history alive! If anyone is interested in the full story as told by my late grandfather, John Kaiser's brother, he wrote a book that is available on Amazon still.
Dude was such a badass, he was the kind of man to go out in the bush alone with just a shotgun to protect his village from lions and bandits. I wish I could have known him better ...
I'd say your TV bundle is much less than most people pay. I have Google Fiber Kansas City and the TV/Internet bundle is $130, internet only is $70. If I wanted sports/basic cable, I would get a Sling subscription which runs at $20
You can, dude. Enable "Manual Ordering." Perhaps it requires a desktop web browser. Go to your account settings, click "Order in My List" under your My Profile section and then check the "Manual Ordering" option.
Go to the streaming home, and click on the "My list" text. That takes you to a page showing the list as queue and you can re-order it.
EDIT2: The direct link to edit your list is https://www.netflix.com/browse/my-list.
EDIT: I can edit "My List" order on Android, in Chrome if I select "Request Desktop Site." Still, it's much easier on a desktop.
You can get Zenmate or Hola and watch it on Yahoo. It involves 2 extra clicks once and then Community gets an extra official viewer and makes more money :)
Edit: Guys, I get it. It's a matter of principle to you to pirate these things and stunt Community's growth. Yahoo deserve it because their motives are to fuck your country over, not because of legal issues/revenue issues. And I guess Community deserve it for being on Yahoo instead of staying dead or something, I don't know. I do get the point though, so you can all stop replying to me with the same message.
A cross section of people who both find this person sexually arousing and are shitty sexual assaulting dick bags.

VPN my friend. I subscribe to Hulu and HBO Now from the UK with a little help of my trusty VPN and American virtual credit card that I can pay off using my Paypal account. I'm currently using VyprVPN which works for Hulu, Amazon, Netflix so I'm very happy with it considering it's the same price as the DNS service I subscribed to before Hulu and Netflix cut down on them.
I'm tagging /u/sacm54 so they can see this too. Happy watching guys :)
I implore any fans of Sucession to watch the Three Part Documentary:
The Rise of the Murdoch Dynasty.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episodes/m000kxw1/the-rise-of-the-murdoch-dynasty
It's un-fucking-believable, and although I thought Succession was loosely based on the Murdochs and a few other families, I had no idea just how close to the bone it was. Absolutely fascinating, not to mention it shows just how much of a shite Tony Blair is.
You can buy each episode on iTunes and Amazon. Only $2 for the standard quality, and worth every penny. They usually go up a few hours after they air on TV.
https://www.amazon.com/Leah-Remini-Scientology-Aftermath-Season/dp/B01MZZN4BF
https://itunes.apple.com/us/tv-season/leah-remini-scientology-and-the-aftermath/id1173621511
Absolutely. I've got NOW TV here in the UK. All of GoT and quite a few other HBO shows are available through Sky Atlantic. I don't pirate any more, because NOW TV is easier, and it's only £7 a month.
It just seems like the solution is so obvious.
Edit: obviously it's not perfect, but it's good enough value for me to stop pirating.
>Quick turnaround is a necessity, since we create the body of an episode in only a few weeks and the topical intro to the episode in only two or three days
From here
Seems like they cheat it a bit. The intro may have had a quick production time, but the majority of the episode was already in the can.
For reference, Southpark can be under a week.
>Some VPNs log information about what you're doing so be careful, do your research, and don't get caught.
Private Internet Access does not log anything and allows torrents. They also have really strong encryption options and have lawyers to scrutinize any subpoena.
Disney is launching a streaming service in 2019 that will have original content as well as their classic Disney, Marvel, and Lucasfilm titles (no R rated material).
https://www.fool.com/investing/2018/03/25/we-now-know-how-disney-will-package-its-streaming.aspx
But to really appreciate it, you should probably watch <em>Danger Man</em> (aka Secret Agent), first. :)
I'm not taking sides or anything here, but when you buy a season of any show on Amazon, the page shows you exactly what episodes are included:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00DYQ2UDC?ref_=atv_dp_season_select_s6
Additionally, it appears Amazon is releasing Adventure Time in 13 episode volumes, and not sticking to how the seasons are aired. Season 5 was 26 episodes, so it seems they split it into two volumes, with the "Season 6" available on Amazon actually being the second half of Season 5 that aired on TV. You can see they've done the same thing to the actual Season 6 as well, as those episodes are available as "Seasons" 7 and 8.
Lesson: Make sure you read/know what you're buying before you pay?
This will be good. If you have interest in this topic and famous Brits, you should read Last Chance to See by Douglas Adams (Author of the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy).
He travels the world and experiences some of the most endangered animals and writes about them and the experience in the way that ONLY he can. (it was written in the late 80s, so some species he writes about are in fact now extinct)

No, it was always called '8 Simple Rules for Dating My Teenage Daughter' just like the book the series was based upon in the first place.
Just a heads up for fans of the show;
there's a prequel comic book series
and a sequel comic book series
Legend. One of my childhood heroes. I was such a big fan I read his book <em>Games You Can't Lose: A Guide for Suckers</em>.
Here's an Oscar moment between him & John Larroquette on Night Court.
I forgot the name but I am referring to the 3 and a half hour version that includes the director's cut of the film with the animated pirate story spliced in it like the graphic novel.
https://www.amazon.com/Watchmen-Ultimate-Jackie-Earle-Haley/dp/B002Q9VPFM
Here it is, you can find a torrent of it as well.
After looking into it, it seems pretty likely this is true and has been known for a while now.
A porn star he was dating was supposedly paid off to keep quiet after she found out he was HIV+ last year.
There's also an email from the current chairman of Sony television that was leaked during the Sony hack that links to an article about there being trouble on the set of Anger Management (Sheen's show after Two and a Half Men.) He jokes that he's going to win a bet because "...it's hard to to be a drug addict and be HIV positive and do 40 eps a year."
yeah, I updated my comment. I found an NPR interview where he said that he'd read as much as possible.
Here's an interesting Quora thread about this too
This is just a rumor though. The only actual information we kind of know about season 2 doesn't seem to agree with this. The creator said, in an interview after the season 1 finale, that the next season will be about "hard women, bad men, and the secret occult history of the United States Transportation System." Which is leading everyone to think the season will be about a pair of female detectives...or that might have been a weird joke with no actual relevance, but either way thats what the guy said.

Precisely. Whenever I see River on-screen, I groan in distaste. Too much action, not enough character or relationship development. The similarities to Timothy Zahn's Mara Jade [assassin-turned-hero's-love-interest] and the previous Doctor Who character of Bernice Summerfield [professor of archeology] were not lost on me. Someone even wrote a crossover fanfiction exploring just how similar Mara Jade and River Song are.
The whole "River is the Ponds' daughter" bit [that is, making River related to two major on-screen characters, as well as the Doctor's wife] is also a fairly common trope among Mary Sues in fanfiction. I'm not saying that River is a Mary Sue, but making an "original character" who is the "child of two other major characters as well as the hero's love interest" tends to be a major wish fulfillment trope. It's trite, overdone, and highly cliche.
There's also River being some sort of magical "part-Time Lord" hybrid, and I get the sense that Moffat was trying to make River "as special and unique as possible". That, coupled with Moffat's "tell, don't show" method instead of the other way around, makes River a character with a lot of lost potential, who seems to be shoehorned into the series as a third wheel, rather than being given the character development needed to build up a believable on-screen "romance" with the Doctor. Not off-screen, as that's just lazy storytelling.
All three tropes are also typically the signs of an amateur or novice writer. Moffat should know better than to be making these mistakes by now. Additionally, bringing River back will cause the same gripes within the fandom as bringing Rose back [edit] did, and they're not unfounded complaints. I think Moffat should retire River for good, and move on from her character.
The show also made an entire fucking language for the WW that they scraped in the last second. It's called Skroth and you can listen to it here. It doesn't have any filters on it, but it would have ended up sounded like ice cracking. I don't believe Skroth is gonna show up in the prequels, because people would be pissed and ask "why the fuck didn't the say anything in Game of Thrones? What the hell?"

If you're a student, Spotify is 5$. I don't know if you are, but I'm letting you know because its a steal.
There's a similar moment in the novel Alas, Babylon.
The main character, who lives in a small town in central Florida, has just taken out all his money from his bank account because he knows there's going to be a nuclear war. He gives a cryptic answer to the bank managers questions, so the banker decides to make a call.
Banker: Yes, I'd like to speak to the manager of the First National Bank in Jacksonville.
Operator: Just a moment.
The operator works to connect the call. The banker happens to be facing northeast. A bright flash of light on the horizon makes him wince.
Operator: I'm sorry sir, I can't connect you to Jacksonville. It's not there anymore.
Yeah. Interesting facts: He had a near-perfect score on his LSAT, graduated from Harvard Law, and worked for the prestigious NY law firm Skadden Arps before burning out on his job and moving to a career in comedy. Source.
Man's Search for Meaning by Viktor Frankl is no joke. It's a great and life-changing read, and I highly recommend it to all. The author is a holocaust survivor turned psychiatrist/philosopher, and his writing is very powerful.
Oh I forgot, the gang made reference to all this Emmy & award stuff in the episode The Gang Tries Desperately to Win an Award
http://www.vocabulary.com/dictionary/hawkish
>Someone who's hawkish is in favor of going to war with other countries. The president's hawkish advisors will frequently recommend military solutions to conflicts.
Even with that technology, Our Cartoon President episodes still typically took a few weeks to produce from start to finish, with the topical intro being done last.
There's some confusion going on here, and it's Amazons fault for calling them "Seasons" and not "Volumes", like they do with other shows. At the moment, there are 6 seasons of Adventure Time. The first episode is "Wake Up", which Amazon lists as the 1st episode of the Seventh Season. Basically, if you want to own Season 6 of Adventure Time legally, you have to buy the 7th and 8th "Seasons". Also, Hulu only has half of the Sixth season so signing up for Hulu will not help in this situation.
At first I thought it was weird that his lawyer was there with him at an interview, but it became obvious when every other word out of the guy's mouth was a thinly-veiled attempt to suck Walmart's dick.
NBC and Walmart have been buddies for years, so it's no surprise that they chose The Today Show as the venue for it either. Walmart even makes fucking infomercial movies for NBC. They also glorify Alice Walton, the Walmart heiress who has numerous drunk driving incidents and literally hit and killed a pedestrian.
There was DEFINITELY a contractual obligation to praise Walmart in that interview. I'd be willing to bet it was actually the main purpose of the interview to start with. When you consider that Tracey isn't 100% right now, the whole thing takes on a macabre tone, as if a brain-addled Tracy is being manipulated into praising the fucking company that's indirectly responsible for his injuries and the death of his close friend.
This article puts the total size of the global market for sex toys at $15 billion.
Edit: I'd say it's possible that Amazon has a few billion in revenue on sex toys. Amazon did $107 billion in sales last year, so maybe 2 to 4% of sales. It's a big enough piece of the pie that execs at Amazon are paying attention.
Harry Shearer has been complaining about The Simpsons for decades. He was one of the first celebrities to embrace the internet, and used to post on Usenet about his salary negotiations in the 90s. He thinks Fox and the producers take too much of the pie. Fox and the producers think that paying a guy $300k for half an day of work (which he does at home and emails in) each week is too much.
According to Alexa, reddit is the 24th most visited website in the world, and the 7th most visited website in the US. Pretty much any company, cause, event, person, whatever, who had a social media presence is interested in good exposure on reddit.
Sure, it's actually quite simple. You'll sign up for a VPN via the internet and pay a monthly fee. Some are as low as 7 bucks/month I think. Lots of people recommend Private Internet Access, but do a quick search on best VPNs and you'll find a list of them.
Some VPNs offer applications to install on your computer that make it easy to switch between servers.
For example if your team was blacked out and you wanted to watch you could switch the VPN server to some place in Canada or UK and watch the game. It's a lot simpler than it sounds to most people. It's almost guaranteed that the VPN will be cheaper than your cable service.
There are other uses for VPNs, such as hiding your internet traffic from others and a good number of people likely use it for torrenting as well.
If anyone is interested, Amazon Prime has the first two episodes up for free this weekend here. I've become a very big fan of the show very quickly. The entire season is released on November 20th!
I urge anyone to read Oliver Sacks' "Musicophilia" which goes into this topic of people visualizing music.
Heck, read ANY book by the late Dr. Sacks. Dude did a wonderful job exploring the mysteries of the mind and writing down all the weird shit that can come from it.
Masters of Doom is an amazing book, and I've been yearning for it to get a good Hollywood treatment for years.
The thing that concerns me here is that James Franco is practically the age of John Carmack now.. 40something. He's way too old to star in a series about the early days of id in the 80s/early 90s when all those guys were in their 20s.
A quick trip to IMDB and I don't see him listed as a producer on anything that he isn't starring in.
Also.. I'd much rather see this as a proper movie, or a mini-series at most..

Because English is an evolution of Romance and Germanic languages that had gendered nouns. For example, you have der Rock (the (male) skirt) in German, and la falda (the (female) skirt) in Spanish. The gender of nouns in completely random in German, but it is based on vowel ending in most romance languages. Here's a quick guide if the learning bug bites you: http://www.spanishdict.com/topics/show/1
Some believe that gendered pronouns have stuck around because they are useful in terms of poetry, or because they somehow allowed us to feel more connected to the world around us by personifying it. Also, your first statement is questionable. Many aspects of gender have a strong correlation (if not causation) to biology. Some examples are the aggressiveness of males and the emphatic nature of females.
ideas are blurring together. guest directors who suck dick. same plots recycled.
not looking good boys.
that drone episode was so bad. was basically an hour of
chasing around some woman with a knife glued to its arm.
still my fav show out there, but it needs a system shock... or a few high budget episodes. do one on mars. in outspace for real. something dark.
enough with the AI and drones are scary stuff.
The character description is interesting: "an honest but ambitious FBI agent willing to go to any length for his family." If they're going to make Season 3 like Born Again, then I suspect he's going to be a combination of Nick Manolis and Ben Urich (RIP on TV).
Believe it or not, Yahoo actually has a very good app that provides what you are seeking (Netflix, Hulu, HBO are all supported)...

You can get the original 12-issue comic series in a collection here, it is all you'll need to understand the Watchmen world, every other work is just supplementary. The graphic novel is very highly-regarded and popular in the comicbook community so DC obviously wants the world to keep on going in one way or the other.
But it's honestly one of my favorite books, and very thought-provoking too. Would highly recommend.
Get a VPN dude. There are plenty that are able to circumvent the Netflix block and it's so great being able to basically just switch over to US or UK Netflix if our shitty Australian one doesn't have anything good to watch.
I use ExpressVPN which is a little pricey but undeniably worth it.
She had her first leading role last year in The Light of the Moon, streaming on Amazon now. Was lucky enough to interview her at SXSW about it. She's one of the sweetest people I've ever met.

But TL;DR Family guy took a YouTube clip and put it in an episode. After it aired YouTube's automatic DMCA system deleted the original (because it matched the part in the episode)
The situation was corrected pretty quickly (no clue on copyrights or anything) but it signaled an issue with automatic copyright systems and how Fox was automatically more trusted than the original content creator.
I'm watching it, and loving it. The Metacritic reviews are a wee bit mixed, but I think you just have to accept the concept for what it is - it's not trying to be ultra-true to life, or even that 'logical' (which I know a lot of shows do). It's pure R-rated fantasy - susend all belief, turn off your mind, and enjoy a good romp of violence, sex and blood.
I saw Life of Pi last week, so I'm entitled mindless guilty pleasures.

Says a lot that you're just dismissing anyone defending something you don't like by calling them fanboys. You're free to dislike a thing if that's how you feel, you don't have to qualify it by proving you're an asshole towards people who like the thing.
And I don't see how it makes me a fanboy to point out the flaws in your arguments? What happened with LOST is not only well-documented (like, literally documented in a book that you can read, but one of the guys who made it went on to produce two television masterpieces, so maybe I give him the benefit of the doubt? Especially when the other player in the game is a goddamn broadcast television network. It's common knowledge that networks interfere in shows and LOST was one of the first major serialized broadcast dramas. ABC wanted more because it was popular, they didn't care if that interfered with the vision the writers had. And I didn't even say anything about the writer's strike. That happened, what, around season 4 of the show? I think the damage had long been done by then.
And again, I don't even see the comparison here. They had a plan and they executed on it. The entire show has been produced. It's a miniseries and its events directly affect the upcoming movies. Wanda's going to be in the next Doctor Strange, which is already in production. It would be pretty weird if they didn't have the plot figured out for this show and they were already filming a movie affected by it.
And by the way, the finale of LOST is actually good. Fight me.
It's $10 on Amazon. Or walk into any well stocked comic store and they'll have it.
You'd be justified if there were never any dvd offerings of the series but Farscape has been one of the few shows where finding a copy of the complete series has been easy over the years. By my count there have been 4 different dvd releases of the series over the years, with the most recent being 15 year anniversary release back in 2013.
15 year. What other series can you name that offered a 15th anniversary release? Maybe if you wait a year and a half you'll get a chance at the 20th anniversary. Or we can all just pirate the series and show the studio that we have no intention to buy a copy.
There are a lot of series that you can justify pirating for the simple fact that the studio doesn't offer a means to acquire the series. But Farscape is not one of those series. If you REALLY want to, you can currently purchase seasons individually on iTunes. This show is available, but you're being too cheap about it.
Or you can buy a DVD on amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Farscape-Complete-Anniversary-Brian-Henson/dp/B00E688AZE/ref=dp_ob_title_dvd
I got one of these -> https://www.amazon.com/Synology-Bay-DiskStation-DS218-Diskless/dp/B075N1Z9LT/ and then set it up with four 12 TB drives. The total cost was ~$2000 but I had a bunch of credit card points that I used so ended up being like $600 out of pocket.
Check out /r/PleX some of the builds on there are crazy.
This is just plain wrong. I actually have DVDs from a limited release they did (I think in 08) of the original Theatrical versions. People act like they straight don't exist but they are just very rare. But you can bet if those DVDs exist then Lucalfilm/Disney has digital copies somewhere
In case someone doesn't believe me, here is it listed on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Star-Wars-Trilogy-Widescreen-Theatrical/dp/B001EN71DG/ref=tmm_dvd_title_15?_encoding=UTF8&qid=&sr=
You can get a seedbox based in the Netherlands with Plex preinstalled and OpenVPN starting at around 10 bucks a month. This thing will be hosted or collocated in a data center in arguably the most internet liberal country on the planet without the piracy laws of most of the western world.
You will be able to directly transfer magnetized links of BlueRay quality in less than 10 min each. You can also host any other types of files and applications on it securely. I have been using for the last 5 years and it has been incredible in terms of performance and service. Plex has native clients for toasters at this point.
If this sounds like a lot to do, I promise you that it is not. You can have this up and running anonymously in a matter of 5 min.
Edit: added hyperlink
Private Internet Access is a good one..... Also the only one i know, but my friends also use it and it has been very reliable. $40 a year, multiple devices, and also a proxy code to use if you want to. You can share it with friends to make it cheaper, but honestly its worth it.
If you haven't, even though it's Antarctic rather than Arctic, South: The Endurance Expedition by Sir Ernest Shackleton is fantastic. I recommend any edition that has the photos included because they're stunning; this is the one I read when I was younger, but there are most likely more.
Should also be able to find text-only public domain versions since it's autobiographical from the early 1900s and the guy was English, so no need for a translation.
Just import them from somewhere else. Amazon UK has them for £40 which is like $60 in our freedom dollars and probably like $80 of your icy Canadian hockey bucks.
Foreign amazon sites, especially the UK one, are my go-to when stuff is stupid expensive here. Just be sure you have a not region locked DVD player. One year when I was in college I even bought all of my textbooks from Amazon.co.uk. Even with shipping fees it was cheaper than the stupid university bookstore, it just took a few weeks for the slow ass shipping.
Paying for netflix isn't the only factor affecting it. You'd have to consider the country's ISP.
Brazil for example has 4.6 Mbps broadband minimum speed and costs $150 / R$400. With a shitty internet connection, pirating vs choosing to pay for streaming becomes a no brainer.
Trackt.tv seems to be a favourite around these parts for the like, but I simply use IMDB for most purposes - the message boards really need a sprucing up (esp. given the tragic recent demise of TVWoP) but has some nice commentaries (esp. on less-Reddited shows).
you probably need the right codec. download the k-lite codec pack (it has pretty much every one you'll ever need). http://www.codecguide.com/download_kl.htm
> It doesn’t explain why Black mirror is able to out out consistently good episodes either.
While I wouldn't necessarily put him on the same level, I think a lot of it is the same reason the original Twilight Zone was so successful with Rod Serling. Both apparently have a clear vision for what they wanted their shows to be and the talent to realize those ideas.
>Yeah, Love Deat and Robots has a great mix of scifi writers involved, though I’m not sure those are even the best episodes of that anthology.
Even if you don't believe those were the best episodes, nearly every episode of the series was written by a published sci-fi/horror writer, though obviously their levels of success and name recognition varies. Many apparently come from the SNAFU anthology series of books. The only two episodes I can see that are the exception to this are "The Witness" and "Blindspot".
If you have Amazon Prime, Seasons 1-8 are free through it's streaming service.
But if you start with Season 9, that works just as well. No back story needed.
Yeah X-Men was hindered by having about half the budget of Batman. They were both on Fox Kids originally. One producer referred to Batman as smooth Jazz and X-Men as a garage band.
Haim Saban who was a producer on the show was a notoriously cheap fuck. He struck gold with X-Men and later Power Rangers which were huge stepping stones in Saban's billionaire enterprise. Fox at the time had a lot riding on the success of the X-Men to establish Foxkids. Once X-Men became a hit the writing staff were rewarded by having their fees cut by $500 per episode. Saban's logic, "Well they will take less for an opportunity to write for a hit TV show!".
A book was released last year called 'Previously, on X-men' which detailed all the behind the scenes stuff and making of X-Men TAS. It's a great read for fans of the show.
