I am truly humbled to present my own effort.
Pros: Nice, even design, supporting an indeterminate number of states.
Cons: Relies on as-yet-undeveloped CSS @media flag { ... }
technology.
Brady and Grey, both of you should look more into what SpaceX is actually about. I recently read the Musk biography and he is specifically not taking SpaceX public because that would jeopardize his goal of making humanity a multi-world species. I know /r/MindOfMetalAndWheels cares a lot about that. The entire reason Musk started SpaceX was to get to the point where we can have a self-sustaining colony on Mars, and the available launch solutions were just not going to cut it.
Or if anyone is on Android, I really recommend PocketCasts.
The free version is a great podcast app with lots of features (remove silence, variable speed playback, 30s skip, etc.). I listen on my desktop at work and being able to resume podcasts seamlessly from platform to platform works great for like $10/yr.
I use Podcast Addict, which allows you to download episodes. Also, you could install a file managing system on your device (what i use) and download the episodes from the website. Then just play the episodes through the file managing app.
Although I am extremely jealous of you and a little irritated that you would buy one without the ability to listen to it, I will stow away that irritation to help a fellow Tim. You can find some rather reliable, cheap turntables on Amazon. I personally had a Jensen All-In-One. (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000UVKE2I/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_VR6CybX9H31J6) There's the link if you're interested. They are good for their price point. I had mine for about 4 or 5 months before I upgraded. Or... You could just sell the vinyl episode to me, and I'd take real good care of it. xD
I agree with you that referring to them as television shows is inaccurate, but I'm not a big fan of the word "serial." I spent a few minutes looking up possible words and then realized that one already exists: "Series." The Mirriam-Webster and Dictionary.com definitions corroborate that a series is, to paraphrase slightly, a collection of sequential episodic content.
I think the solution to the dilemma that you described is to help push the word "series" into more conversations where "television show(s)" would be inaccurate. Examples:
Part of the beauty of the word "series" is that it is both plural and singular, depending on context. It does not need to be modified. Examples:
Note: I know that British television shows have used the word "series" instead of the word "season" for a long time already. You guys can decide if you want to adopt the word for new media shows or not, since you already use different words for a lot of things.
TL;DR: "Serials" is acceptable, but I think "Series" is a better word that is already used for episodic content.
I think the general consensus is that Pocket Casts is best third-party podcast app available across all platforms. If you prefer using first-party apps, give Google Podcasts a look.
You guys are ragging on that crocodile emoji from microsoft. But if you look at the set of emojis from microsoft I just have to say, they look fantastic: https://emojipedia.org/microsoft/
Yah, take any one, put it up next to a bunch of emoji of different styles and they look a little weird. All of them look weird when you do that.
But this set taken together is really very nice. Zoom out to make them small, looks good, zoom in, looks good.
Anyone know the copyright on these things? I can't find info on it anywhere so I assume it's onerous.
given how much he talks about coffee cups I'm kind of surprised he doesn't have his own reusable one. I got mine at the university cafeteria where I was a student. It has a built in hotstopper and heat insulation (the coffee stays hotter for longer and the cup itself is not as hot either).
p.s. we also got a decent discount on the coffee if we brought a reusable cup
EDIT: found the one that looks exactly the same on Amazon though mine is branded with my university's logo.
I use a third party Samsung themer but you can do similar stuff with Substratum on most android phones.
He dosen't: 1 million digits, that would take over nine mounts of constant adding to reach (if each digit takes one second, which it dosen't). It would weigh approximately 460kg and the digits would cover 5184m^2 (almost an american football field at 5351.2 m^2 ). The cost according to this amazon ad would be around $10 300.
Gosh no. Use nova launcher, then take the page indicator and the app labels off. You have nothing to lose, it's free and it takes 3 minutes. My own nail and gear screen (+many others). Sorry for solving problems :)
PocketCasts, it isn't free but soo much better than Podcast Addict. It has material design, auto download, filters and tons more. It really is worth the price.

It probably won't show up for you if you don't have any compatible devices.
Currently binge listening Philosophize This! in chronological order.
It's the most accessible history of philosophy I've come across. If you liked books like A Short History of Nearly Everything this podcast is a perfect follow on.
Free, public domain audio books: https://librivox.org
They're not the latest releases, obviously, but that doesn't mean there aren't good ones from yesteryear out there.
Also http://podiobooks.com for more up to date fare. I've gotten several great sci-fi ones from there.
-(A Dark Room)[http://adarkroom.doublespeakgames.com/] - Sort of like Universal Paperclips in a few ways, it is less addicting and is another good incremental game.
-(Papers, Please)[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Papers%2C_Please] - A game where you are an immigration officer, checking papers and deciding who to let in and who to send away.
I use Todoist . It has apps on every platform, plus the web. You can use to implement GTD workflow. Here's the help page on that. I like the fact that it has both projects and labels as different concepts. The Android app is pretty simple and fun to use. You can just swipe left to mark a task as done
I use OpenVPN, although it is a little more technical than most as it involves Installing the VPN server software yourself. There aren't many good completely free VPNs (as far as I know), but something like TunnelBear or Windscribe has a sizable amount of free data and is trustworthy.
> You're getting swindled buying gimmicky cartridges anyway. Double edge safety razor master race. You can buy 100 blades for under $10 and get a better shave.
This. I switched many years ago now and havent looked back.

This one is surprisingly good And these guys have lots of good stuff
He did a really interesting long-form interview on the Masters in Business podcast back in March where they talk about Conspiracy, this book, and a lot more.

i've used ringer volume for several years now and haven't even looked since i got it to see if there's anything better out there. i'm sure with google being google there has to be a way to link your calendar. or maybe look on IFTTT.com for something
https://ifttt.com/recipes/165618-mute-phone-when-calendar-event-starts don't know about apple stuff though
This is the current desktop on my laptop.
I am running Gnome 3.12 on Arch Linux. My wallpaper changes every 30 minutes and I am using a cool tool called Variety to automatically fetch wallpapers from pre-defined sources. So I never know what's coming next.
I teach physics in high school and teach some of my material with the flipped method. My students really like it for learning skills so that they can all come to class and be on the same page for a lab. I don't think they work in a long lecture format.
One absolutely invaluable tool has been EdPuzzle. You connect or upload to a video and then insert questions in-line. The video pauses, the students answer the question(s), then move on. I collect that data to see who's understanding the material. The next day in class, we go over all the questions so the students can (anonymously) see how the whole class is doing and where they are with respect to everyone else.
So videos can be good. Videos done by the teacher and not just a random video are better. Videos with accountability and asynchronous questions are fantastic. EdPuzzle really helps me close the loop.
Of course, the real magic to good flipped teaching is the class time part of it. Now, rather than lecturing to a group -- some portion of which is bored because they're too advanced and another portion is lost because they didn't get it the first time -- I can be a 'coach' that walks around and works with each group or individual. We do several more labs a year, and the students like those the most.
Each app should be free to make their own emoji then rather than the OS being forced to make one for things like an Auto Rickshaw just because it's included in Unicode 12.0
If you have an android phone, I'd use todoist. It's a great task manager and perfectly capable of using with a gtd-system. And it is available for both android and iOS.
They get their money through the sponsorships that they put in the show. Personally I listen to HI through Google Podcasts.
We fought hard, we fought wise. Well done, Tims.
Even Sun Tzu approves our wit. “What the ancients called a clever fighter is one who not only wins, but excels in winning with ease.” ― Sun Tzu, The Art of War
I've literally been combing through all of the old ones finding all of the recommendations. I can't strongly enough recommend the book On Writing by Steven King. Also, this webpage. http://www.cgpgrey.com/recommended-listening/
I personally use keepass, especially because it doesn't require internet- and thus also doesn't store any of my passwords online. I have 100% control of my data and I can make my own backups. It may take some time to get used to it, but it works very well. If you want to, you can get the file where all the passwords are used and set it on your pc as well- there's a pc application in addition to the android app. It's free, but donations are always appreciated by the developer- He deserved them in my opinion, the app is frequently updated.
It was actual 34C two years ago: https://www.accuweather.com/en/gb/london/ec4a-2/august-weather/328328?year=2020
Sure 40 wasn't reached before, but it's also not an actual reached temperature yet, and would only be up by only a few degrees.
The "news" isn't worthless, but making it sound sensational ("unheard of" and "unprecedented" are getting overused) kinda triggers our inner spam filters
Super late to this, but which narrator is 11/10.
Currently on audible there are two versions of this book.
One Narrated by: Tim Gerard Reynolds
the other: Marco Sven Reinbold
>"If everyone became vegan, we can make a difference" does sound a bit like bullcrap.
Well, livestock does account for a substantial portion of emissions, and it is definitely not a golden bullet, but even reducing the amount of meat eaten a bit is likely to achieve something.
Slaktivism is a problem when tackling any issue. If turning vegetarian is the one thing a person does to try and tackle climate change, and is the only thing someone does, well at least it's something. But people getting high and mighty are very annoying and I'd probably ask them what else they could do.
I should note that I do appreciate Grey's rational approach to life which is very rare in the world, and he has often brought in ideas that I haven't considered.

This is his fundraising page. He makes roughly one video per month. $14,700*12 months in a year = $176,400. This is not including YouTube ad revenue, Patreon revenue for Hello Internet, and sponsorships for his videos and for Hello Internet. Does he get money for Cortex? Probably. I think he'll get his apartment in the Shard any month now.
X-post from my comment on the main sub
Grabbing the transcription from David Smith's Site and using this python code I wrote. Taking the second letter of every ninth word gives you the following(From the first 30 or so lines):
sarinxpeohhheshrohabaaet
Which is extremely disappointing but someone had to try it.
Edit: Also the 18th word is just a so I just used the first letter so this probably puts this whole theory to an end
For some google historical data one the use of the terms 'freebooting' 'pirating' and 'bootjack'
Yeah I as well, but I really struggle to use a mouse (because of this I try to use the keyboard for everything I can)... All in all, it's been a many-year process that just builds on itself.
I just recently switched over from using Launchy (inactive since 2010). Instead I now use Wox paired with an Everyting (super fast file indexer) plug-in. It does the same thing as the "win + <type>" action, but is far quicker.
I made these with Paint.net Snipping out Destin and placing all the Destins individually in the row to make it look more realistic then placing each row took a fair amount of time and effort ; ) I think I might like the last one the best though :P
Something that was mentioned in the podcast was that Google and LG were holding out on the water gun shift. However if you look at the android 9.0 preview, it will be a water gun soon.
For use with Browser Bots:
A free option is the TOR browser, Install here which will use a different ip address every time you load the page.
Otherwise there are several free proxy services, these should also change your ip address. Search "proxy site" or something. https://www.proxysite.com/ Theoretically you could load up a few bots on different proxies.
(Please correct me if proxies don't fix the ip issue)
Interestingly, Twitch is a topic I know a lot about -- and it happens that for a lot of top streamers, the majority of their monthly income comes from "donations" or "tips" (direct user -> creator). For many of them pulling in 10x+ subscriptions and advertisements combined. Smaller streamers sometimes get 1000x+ or more because they have a tiny loyal fanbase who loves them -- they get almost no hits (just hundreds of viewers) -- so no ad volume, -- they get a much higher % of subscriptions to viewers, and a massive amount of donations that go over the top of that.
It is about the connection between creator and fan. Maybe the Twitch model makes sense -- ads support twitch/creator, subscriptions supports twitch/creator and donations bypass Twitch creating a direct relationship between creator and fan, also making it possible for them to switch platforms.
> but how would CGPGrey have started on such a plattform?
Your real question is -- how do new content creators get exposure -- which is a fair question, but hardly one youtube is the answer too -- try setting up a youtube channel today and getting a million users -- it is really hard. Getting exposure and going viral is really hard work, but YT is no better than BobsVideo if they both offer a free platform to stream videos on. And if YT wasn't there -- something else would be. If I happen to drive my Honda Accord to a job interview... that doesn't mean the Honda Accord is what got me the job because I happened to drive it -- YouTube doesn't make the content, it is just a vehicle, and overvalue it at your own peril
Additionally, you don't need to go viral to sustain yourself. See Tom Merritt: https://www.patreon.com/acedtect -- awesome, has a few thousands supports generating nearly 15k a month for him.
If Reddit will not enforce their standards, or sue people for violating the standards, I see no moral reason to care. (If there were an actual law about this, I’d change my tune).
I personally think it’s not spam because Grey is only posting his content on a subreddit with his name on it, rather than posting links on every subreddit he visits. He’s not promoting aggressively enough to call it spam.
If Reddit disagrees with that assessment, Grey has several options. He could allow other people to post and moderate his subreddit, essentially making it behave similarly to every other fandom subreddit. Or he could make his own forum using software such as Discourse.
But then again, he is just wishing for an app like Drafts which, as you'll guess already exists and works very well.
Make it your starting point for any task. You open it, type whatever needed, and do the processing (open/format the data for the actual app/service you want to use) later.
The "And by the time you need to select the app, the OS has done a 95% accurate job of doing it for you, so you simply proceed without ever actively selecting the app" part is missing, but I think it's more of a bonus point, the main point being the task-oriented aspect.
I’d recommend Todoist. I’m not familiar with the automation features, but their product page lists a bunch of integrations.
My favorite feature is the natural language processing, it’s really good.
If you do end up opting for a paid VPN, I can highly recommend NordVPN. They have a discount code which cuts the early plan to something really low like 50$, if I remember correctly. It's so fast that I often forgot I turned it on when I do other stuff. Also it's really good with regards to privacy and stuff.
I recommend checking this out:
I would recommend getting some locking clasps if you plan on putting this on something that will be worn or used often. You can get a good bundle pack from Amazon for about $8
I'm in the middle of listening to it now. I think having a CS background helps. On Intelligence is also a really good read if you're in to this type of material.
I was actually just kind of making a double inside joke.

This is the end game here.
As far as I know, Chaikin is the only person to have written a book and interviewed all dozen people who landed on the moon and the eighteen who didn't.
I rate this Seven stars! (out of five)
Does it have to be a contemporary community or can it be a historical one? If the latter, you should read up on Andalucía, Spain in the medieval period. This region had an uncommon amount of religious diversity in regards to Christians, Muslims, and Jews living together relatively peacefully. The book Ornament of the World is a pretty good summary of this. Otherwise, maybe read up on Christians and Muslims in Egypt? There's been a pretty good level of cooperation between those two religious groups there.
I really don't care what Grey thinks, whatever floats his boat, I guess.
But your taste in travel mugs is terrible. The fittings and seals on the Contigo are made of cardboard, judging by how fast they begin to rot after only a year of use, even if you cling to a religious cleaning scedule. Additionally, the push-to-release system is a pain in the backside to clean, unless you haben to own a set of small brushes. I greatly prefer the Emsa Embossed Travelmug. The locking mechanism is unexposed to fluid, making it easy to clean with water or sponge. It also sports a threaded seal, making it ever more unlikely that the top will come off (something that happens to most contigos).
I know they are on the more expensive side of travelmugs, but if you want a genuinely good experience, and a travelmug that will last (mine has been delivering hot coffee for the past 5 years, spill-free) then this is something you should check out.

Use of the loser flag is not okay but I'm still nice enough to suggest a reddit app called slide. The user experience is much nicer.
I use Podkicker Pro. There is also a free version that you can get as well https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ait.podka
It has a ton of features and options. I haven't had any issues with it. I'm not sure what restrictions the free version has since I've been using the paid version for a while now.
I have it check for new podcasts automatically when I plug it in and it will auto download new episodes. You can tell it to only download on wi-fi as well.
The setting is called "Replay on Resume", and the choices are "Do not Replay", "Last 5 sec.", "Last 15 sec.", and "Last 30 sec.".
I've been using the paid version of BeyondPod for a few years now, and I've been pretty happy with it. I also like the option to stop playback when I turn off my Bluetooth headset or when I unplug headphones. I also use the smart playlist feature to automatically order episodes by category: 5-minute news summary first, then any of "Listen Immediately" (ATP, HI and Cortex), then everything else.
I haven't used OmniFocus, but I have found a GTD app on Android that I'm happy with and would certainly be a big improvement over Google Keep. Chaos Control explicitly supports projects and contexts as well as stuff like recurring tasks and task start/end dates. Another plus: Chaos Control is free, but Premium only costs $5 and will get you access to the webapp so you can use it from anywhere. I have encountered a bug or two, since it looks like it's maintained by a single developer, but support has been extremely responsive. All in all, it's by far the best GTD app I've found for Android, and it's ridiculously cheap considering apps like Any.do want to charge you $50 per year. It'll certainly save you a lot of time, money, and effort if it keeps you from having to buy hundreds of dollars worth of hardware and split your platforms between Android and iOS.
