g reader. it has a great scrolling widget, great themes, tons of customization options like feedly account sync, assigned gestures, update on wifi only, different layout options, offline reading options, etc... it's pretty flawless in my experience. never seen it in battery stats either.
I used it almost exclusively for the mobile app. gReader is very similar and I just logged in to my Google account and it pulled all of my feed subscriptions, so the data is still there!
Nothing can touch GReader, IMO. Clean, material design. Most reminiscent of Google Reader. Plethora of options.
Linkeme: GReader

are you open to using an RSS reader? i use greader with my feedly account and it syncs articles for offline reading, really helps keep my data usage per month down since i can catch up on my articles while away from wifi. you could download your favorite site's last 100 articles before leaving and read them later with no connection.
try out Greader as well, i've tried a dozen RSS reader apps but always go back to Greader. They're both really good apps packed with features.
Greader is fantastic for Amoled devices thanks to the black mode. if you have that black theme set and open a web version of an article it will render the entire page with white text on a black background flawlessly.
I've used Sync for Reddit [https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.noinnion.android.greader.reader](link)
Google keyboard
Greader for news (I use feedly as the backend and it works great)
You could try this.
The site uses Wordpress which has good support for RSS. This is the link for 248am's RSS feed. 248am.com/feed/. Now just find yourself an android RSS reader like this one, plug in that link in the app and you're good to go.
I'm using Greader for reading various news sites of my own choosing. You can add almost any website which has an RSS feed available. I logged in with a Feedly account to synch read/unread articles. Greader also supports downloading articles, it is found in the Options menu under Offline Reading. I set the app to synchronize when started, and fire it up every morning a few mins before I leave to download articles.
Not all news sources can be downloaded entirely, though. Check these in the web version of Feedly if they are Full-text or Abstract only.

My recommendation is gReader. It has tons of features, so you can sync it with Feedly and tweak your feed view like you want to.
Feedly with gReader on Android filled that void for me. Nothing else I've tried comes close. (Just a warning though, the gReader app is itself almost abandoned, though technically it still works -- but Google account authentication is broken, so make sure to sign in with a Feedly account)
i use lightning browser in inverted mode to get a black background with white text to take advantage of the power saving the OLED display has when displaying black.
if you're browsing the same sites regularly, try using an amoled themed RSS reader like Greader. it loads all the posts to my favorite sites in a black background/white text with no ads, text overflow, displays all media, and prevents me from having to go through bookmarks. i just swipe right and the next article posted to my subbed website pulls up in a perfect format.
Just use an RSS reader and make categories like what you're suggesting filled with sources you like reading.
My preferred one is gReader: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.noinnion.android.greader.reader
I'm pretty sure gReader can have local feeds as well as connecting to feedly, the old reader etc.
Linkme: gReader
Edit: bot gone got the paid version here's the free one https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.noinnion.android.greader.reader
The correct answer is gReader with Feedly as source: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.noinnion.android.greader.reader&hl=en
I like GReader using Feedly + RSS to populate.

gReader without a doubt.

greader is the only one I am aware of.

RSS feeds is the forgotten hero the world needs right now. For dark theme/offline/service syncing i use gReader
kustom really cleaned up my home screen. in any given day i jump around between pocketcasts/phonograph for audio in the car, and BubbleUPnP for casting music/video while at home. Problem with this is i had multiple media widgets cluttering my home screen.
i went and modified a KLWP theme over top of nova that lets me have a universal now playing widget that grabs info and controls from the notification for whatever media app is active. this gives me one central controller with artwork, next/previous/pause without having to have 3 separate widgets. if i start playing another app it switches the now playing to whatever is active, scrolls track info, and tapping the artwork opens the app.
the scrollable RSS feed widget is GReader.
KLWP theme i tweaked has slick animations, never shows up in my battery stat, but does use 120 MB of ram when playing audio. took a while to setup having never used KLWP before but i couldn't be happier. This is the first time in 4 years of tweaking devices that i've had the same home screen setup for more than a month. it's served me well for around a year now.

gReader pro https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.noinnion.android.greader.reader
I believe they have a free version also.
gReader>Everything else
For me gReader was updated more than 3 years ago: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.noinnion.android.greader.reader

RSS News Reader. gReader on Play store
I mentioned it because the icon is on the wallpaper. That's all.
I use Greader since long... Best online & offline reader with many added features... the best Feed reader!!
Well, you can use GReader ;)
just add the RSS feed to something like Greader or feedly.

greader only I'm using the pro version
I also like gReader. It has a black theme that helps when reading at night. It has a pro version to eliminate ads.
