And he has stated he hates widgets, think he said he was going to try it though. I use redditinator as it lets me open into sync
I use a combination of two.
Slide because of its awesome flow control and Reddinator for a widget.
Redditnator has nice theming tools and has all the tools to be a stand alone client.
In the meanwhile, Reddinator is a great widget, and IIRC you can set it so links open in your Reddit client of choice. It's been a while since I used it though.
You could keep your preferred Reddit app for regular use and use Reddinator (F-Droid/Play Store) for the widgets.
What I've found with my free Reddit app Reddinator is that people never donate (seriously I've received under $1 in donations for it). Which is fine, I never expected to make money off it and only added the donate feature in the last version.
I'm not a huge fan of advertising and since users generally won't have the app open I doubt it would generate much income.
I'll definitely consider the trial.
EDIT: spelling
Oh the app is live: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=au.com.wallaceit.reddinator&hl=en[1]
New version coming out soon.
Reddinator
About 4 years ago I decided to delve into Android development. I had dabbled with Java before but for anyone who has done the same, they would understand that Android is an entirely different monster (although I have grown to like the platform, except themes.xml....yuk).
I decided to write a Reddit widget, partially because none of the current ones could satisfy my requirements, but also because I wanted one that I could tinker with and share with the Reddit community.
Looking back it's been a long journey. It all started as a small widget with no account support, to a full featured and highly customisable application. It's been an extremely gratifying experience over the years seeing it grow and all the hours I have put in have definitely paid off. The app was partially crafted by suggestions from the community but still I'd love to get more people involved in the project in a development capacity, which is why I'm posting here.
If anyone would like to get involved in development, join me on Github:

If anyone wants to suggest a feature, start a discussion at (warning: ghost-town):

Or just give Reddinator a go:
