There's also an app called Countable (Android/iOS) that lets you contact your senators and representatives. It will show you which bills Congress is voting on each week, inform you of the pros and cons of each bill, and then let you send a personalized email to your senators or representative. I have gotten back several emails as well as a proper letter with the fancy little US Senate watermark.
Check it out!
For anyone that's interested, there's an android app, Countable, that emails your representatives your opinion on any upcoming bill.
In addition to vote411, and ballotpedia that others mentioned, I also find the app Countable useful. It provides you with federal congressional level voting records, and info about upcoming bills.
There is an app called countable that makes sending your voice to your representative easy. I am not affiliated with it. I just found it recently and thought I would share. Link to Google play store - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.countable.countableapp
Contacted my rep and shared on stupidbook and Twitter. Also, I discovered this app which makes following legislation and contacting reps easier. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.countable.countableapp
If you really want to help give this traction, hold your elected officials accountable. Use something like Countable to view the way they vote, to message them about issues you care about.
Visit their office, go to local political events, don't forget to vote in other elections.
Also Countable: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.countable.countableapp&hl=en
> Countable covers US federal legislation with state and local legislation in the works. Here you can find every bill that matters with a succinct write up. If it’s coming up for a vote, in the news, or controversial – it will be on Countable. This includes: Senate and House Bills, Senate and House simple resolutions, Conference Resolutions, and Joint resolutions. Organization and politicians use Countable to build support for their positions, expand their membership and drive donations.
> The Countable editorial team creates objective summaries for each piece of legislation sourcing pertinent resources and providing a pro and con argument. Sources include the Congressional Budget Office, Congressional Research Service, the majority and minority committees handling the legislation, the Executive Branch, and notable news and research about the legislation.
Fellow Californian here. I have been asking myself this for the past month. I'll share some of the things I'm doing so at least I feel like I'm part of the process and doing what an informed voter should do.
For starters, I DL'd the Countable app (Google Play, not sure of the iOS link), which has many GREAT features:
It will list ALL your Representatives/Senators from the Federal level all the way down to local municipalities (based on ZIP), with contact information for most of them
It updates daily with bills being introduced that you can vote on yourself, then sends your response(s) to your Rep/Senators
You can also see what bills they've authored/sponsored, what committees they serve on, and what their voting record is
Aside from that app, I've done some research in my County about what positions are up for election and how to go about getting on the ballot (if I choose to go that way). I have also looked up our local chapter of the DCC and will be attending the next meeting they have, as well as our next City Council meeting.
Hope some of this helps!
App store link for it.
One option: You can download countable, input your zip code, automatically be assigned your reps, & then you can email them and respond to whatever shitty legislation they’re pushing down the pipeline.
Second option: You can find all rep information here by zipcode
Third option: Or via this website which has all options.
I call my three reps (two senators and house rep) at least once a week.
If you need an easy button, install something like Countable (Android/iOS) or 5 Calls (Android/iOS).
Personally I prefer Countable as you can tell it what kind of issues you want to follow and it will alert you when bills are coming up or have been voted on. In the sidebar you will see links to your reps with all their contact info for easy use.
Well not quite, though that might work. But here's countable https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.countable.countableapp
I really appreciate it existing. And it does show varying interpretations of the bills. You can provide your own.
