What is Reddit's opinion of BaconReader Premium for Reddit?

If you buy the premium version through the Play Store, there should be no ad code. If you do an in-app UPGRADE to premium, you'll still have the ad code in perpetuity. BR seems to have a tendency for this "dormant" code to pop up for premium users who upgrade in-app.

Tl;dr: Buy BaconReader Premium instead of upgrading through the app, or you're going to have a bad time.

If you DO decide to pay for the app, buy the standalone BaconReader Premium app, don't do an in-app upgrade. Upgrading leaves leftover ad code which has popped up even for paid users before.

I've been using Baconreader for over a decade. It's probably more geared to old people who like old layout and a Usenet feel.

No ads, of course.

I can't speak for IOS, however there is a separate app listing for pro on the playstore.

There are no advertisements if you upgrade to premium. Just make sure you don't upgrade in app and you instead get the premium app. Saves a lot of headache with advertising bugs that people have mentioned in this subreddit.

If you buy in-app, ads will pop up at some point and then you'll have to search the sub to find out how.

But, if you buy Premium you won't have to worry about it.

There's really not all that much to it. Install BaconReader, log in, and you have (I think) all the Reddit functions. Do your favorite Reddit shenanigans while you're on the go. LPT: Watch your step. Parked cars come from nowhere sometimes. :)

The problem is, op linked to a thread where their own comment is the only thing stating that BaconReader tracks location data, which they attempt to back up with a four year old article about Sprint buying OneLouder, and a three year old post of someone asking about BaconReader location usage.

If you look at the (Android) premium app permissions, it does not have location listed. Granted, the free version does list (approximate) location as a permission on the browser page. However, when I downloaded it onto my phone just now (as I use premium), I noticed location wasn't listed within the Google Play app, nor is it listed as one of the app's permissions within my phone settings.

And, as OneLouder has stated, if the app is taking location data, it is only anonymous general location data for location-based advertising (pretty common practice), and is something you can turn off.

I have far too many apps. Here are the Christian/Christian use ones. Not all get used regularly, so roughly descending order of use:

• BaconReader for Reddit - my preferred way to browse reddit on mobile. There are a number of other options, all probably good, and all vastly better than the official app.
• Podcast Republic - there may be better podcast apps out there, but this one is free and does everything I want it to do.
• ESV Bible - easy to use, offline access.
• Bible - this is the Life.Church app. It's bloated, and requires internet access for most versions but gives me access to almost any translation.
• Greek New Testament Reader -fantastic material design interface of the SBLGNT text. Tap a word for definition and parsing. Audio playback options, vocab wizard, reading plans, concordance, etc. Truly a fantastic app.
• Hebrew Bible Reader - Same publisher and interface as above. BHS text. Tapping a word gives a gloss, but not parsing.
• Septuagint (LXX) Reader - same publisher/design as above two apps. Greek text from Rahlfs Septuaginta. Tap a word for definition and parsing .Alpha version - no punctuation in text, so words missing definitions and parsing.
• Apostolic Fathers (Greek) - same publisher/design as three previous apps. Tap a word for a gloss, but many words not found in the NT are missing the gloss. Still a work in progress. Option to display Lightfoot's English translation in parallel.
• Christian Creeds and Reformed Confessions - sadly I can't find this one on the play store anymore, but it still works on my device. Published by WesCal Seminary. There are a number of Confessions apps out there, none of them seem to be all that great. I've yet to find one with the 2011 ecumenical Heidelberg Translation, most don't use the American Westminster Confession, and lack the Second Helvetic Confession. Let me know if you have a good one.
• Reformed Theological Seminary - lectures and videos from RTS
• Ultimate Intimace for Couples - Wink, wink, nudge, nudge, knowhatimean?
• Lift Up Your Hearts - Hymnal app. Public domain hymns are free, you can pay to access the full edition. Scores, audio, history, etc. A bit buggy, but works OK.
• Psalter - 1912 Psalter, music and piano recordings.
• RightNow Media @Work - a Christian netflix type thing. Dont' use it much, but have access through work. Includes kids stuff like veggie tales which is nice.
• Today daily Bible devotional - Classic Daily devotional in app form.
• Kids Corner The Reframe Media (Back to God Hour) Kids App.
• The Banner - I like the read my magazines in dead wood form, but I've got the app just in case.

So I use 1 main app and then 1 other for "science" occasionally.

The main that I recommend is bacon reader. It is perfect for me. Has dark mode and file's everything neatly. But more importantly it has a pro mode. No ads. Let me say this once more...I have no seen an ad while I browse reddit in almost 7 years. The other one I recommend is sync for reddit. It is perfect for flipping through images and videos with 1 hand. For science. It too has a pro version and I recommend it for also no ads. It can also download videos.

Now mind you....these apps are meant for those who are used to how reddit was years ago. So no live broadcasts, avatars, gifs, profile stuff,, and friending features. Mainly cause for many this goes against the very core of what many came here for. In fact sending direct messages is pretty much nonexistent. For long time users most of this stuff was a sin and still to a degree is. So if you want more a facebook/Twitter experience stick with the current reddit app.
