There's actually an orgin story for his name, if you're intrested. :p
I don't know who gave the go ahead to release this app update, it quite literally bricked mine. Thankfully Android is more open that Apple and we have the ability to roll back updates.
Here is a download for the 2.21 version of the reddit app. Works great for me.
Lack of moderation? Not sure what the process is.
Edit: Admins/Devs if you're reading, you should check out AWS Rekognition - And the newish Image Moderation part of it, which picked up this picture had revealing clothes. At the very least it'd let you put things on a manual approval queue.
Your public IP address can easily be used to get a vague idea of where your connection is coming from.
This is why services like NordVPN are increasing in popularity. The tunnel will mask your true location and you just see ads for whatever location the VPN is routed through.
Seen it too much, the notifications don't filter NSFW out.

We have the ability to roll back updates, you must first uninstall the current version of the app, then download the 2.21 apk below.

You start the line of text that you want to be really huge with a "#" sign first.
Edit:
If you're on desktop, there's a neat Chrome extension called the Reddit Enhancement Suite (RES) which adds a bunch of features, including the source trick that I mention below:
Here's another little tip: if you click on the "source" link under a comment, you will see all the formatting used in a post, which can be a handy way of reminding yourself of a certain formatting symbol if you forget.
The source link can also be super helpful when you want to copy a comment with all of its formatting intact into a new comment. Just click the source, then copy and paste, and the new comment will look just like the original.
Maybe English speaking countries then. The phone just said it needed to switch to the US store.
Anyway I finally found a way to create a US Apple ID without entering payment infos. If anyone else needs it: http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/anyone-can-download-apps-from-the-us-app-store-here-is-how/
Application is called NetSpeed Indicator (link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nisargjhaveri.netspeed)
It's hit and miss. I just use it to tell me when my internet cuts off. It shows me 65MB/s speeds sometimes which raises my serotonin levels but also increases my depression afterwards so it balances out.
I use Slide for Reddit, It has a nice design, tons of features, is highly configurable to your liking and is open source. Oh, and no ads. :)
Yup, don't think it's available on IOS but if anyone want an incredible Reddit experience on Android I'll always recommend boost. Here's the Play store link if you want to check it out: Boost for reddit
Also join r/boostforreddit to check out how amazing the single dev is with the community and listening to requests
Saw this, closed app, loaded my CyberGhost VPN and flipped on all protection options.
Tried the app and both Old and New in Chrome.
All 3 worked, posting in the app from an Australian end point (I'm actually in the US).
Maybe there are issues with specific VPN providers, but VPN alone doesn't appear to be an issue.
Yeah, the official app is troublesome. The contents would take too long to load(sometimes would even fail to load). That's why I had to search for an alternative for this app and luckily I got a better app named - "Relay".
I searched it in the play store and could not find anything.
I got this error message when trying to install it after visiting the page directly:
> No eligible devices for app install.
> This item cannot be installed in your device's country.
Meh. :\
For everyone having this problem:
Android: Simply use a VPN like this and download it.
iOS: Create an iTunes account in the US or some other supported country and get it from there.
This is actually a function of Markdown formatting.
Reddit supports Markdown and, in fact, other formatting marks work:
italic bold Markdown Syntax link
I have no idea why the quote function doesn't work. But needs to be fixed.
Yeah, don't use the official app cos its complete ass. Use Boost for Reddit or Sync for Reddit or any other popular unofficial app until the official app's devs become competent.
Definitely check out Joey, its free, it works, it has great reviews and it is very customisable so if you don't like the look of it, you can probably change it so it fits your preference.

I use this one Boost For Reddit as my primary the only thing missing is a good comment tab.
I paid the $2.50 for no advertisements it was worth it especially since you get all the features of desktop.
What's V.reddit? I'm interested
yes

Is this the problem you are having? If so, I can not delete all of the new tabs either. Is this a bug...just noticed after the latest update.
Hmmmm. Kind of a dilemma
Try either
This https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jy.iconchanger.ad
Or this
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=io.hexman.xiconchanger
If not working, its basically just huawei being huawei
I recommend you to use boost, I use it and it has an option that save data pictures, gift and videos wont load when you using mobile data. Also have amazing features and great look https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rubenmayayo.reddit here is the link
There's absolutely no excuse for it to not allow landscape rotation. I'm using it in landscape right now(through brute force, essentially).
Personally I'd recommend just switching to BaconReader, but for anyone who wants to force this official app to not be disgracefully stubborn, there's this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ui.robot.rotate&hl=en_US&referrer=utm_source%3Dgoogle%26utm_medium%3Dorganic%26utm_term%3Dplay+rotation+lock+adaptive&pcampaignid=APPU_1_PmXMWpqvJOaUjwTswbaQCA
First go to google play store > settings > Auto update apps > do not auto update
Download an older version of reddit app from here: https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/redditinc/reddit/reddit-2-23-0-release/reddit-top-trending-content-news-memes-gifs-2-23-0-2-android-apk-download/download/
And it works again.

I don't know what that means. But I do have a download for the version before that wasn't trash. Uninstall the app, and then download from here: https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/redditinc/reddit/reddit-2-21-0-release/reddit-top-trending-content-news-memes-gifs-2-21-0-android-apk-download/
Open the link before uninstalling, so you can access it.
I'm spreading the word on every post I see about the new Android update. I thought I was alone at first because there are dozens of 5 star ratings on the new version of the app store, but many of them appear to be bot accounts saying the same thing.

And downloads appear to be starting to work again. Looked to just be an iTunes server issue. Thanks for your patience!
Edit: All systems should now be good according to Apple's System Status.
I can suggest you Boost because I tried few apps and is the only one I like but you should try others too if you want.
The only "bad" thing about these apps is that they have an in-app purchase to remove ads but is a one time purchase to get rid of all the ads and, to be honest, I'll be happy to support something that listens their users and to remove the ads. The one suggested has ads but aren't really invasive like the official reddit app
Try Joey for Reddit . The best third party Reddit client. I have had close to no issues with loading and stuff. It's time to stop taking shit.
I agree. I believe it's prudent to try many apps to see what you do and do not like before you decide on which to use.
I've probably tried a dozen apps since I first started using Reddit nearly 7 years ago.
Through them all, Sync stands several marks above the rest.
Play store link: Sync for reddit
/u/ljdawson is a great developer who really cares about the quality of the product he puts out.
> Android-version 4.4.2
That there is your problem, the current version of the app:
>Requires Android
5.0 and up
You may check out Reddit is Fun for an alternative, but I am not 100% sure what the minimum requirements are for that one since it keeps a wider range of builds live.
>You can have this
by putting ">" in front of a row.
Bold text is done by putting two star marks (*) in front and after the word(s)
Italic is done with one star mark and used like bold.
~~This~~ is done with two of ~ marks before and after the word(s)
Boost for Reddit offers these in easy buttons plus things like ¯_(ツ)/¯ ಠಠ ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) ┬──┬ ノ( ゜-゜ノ) (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻
And many more.

It's a different Reddit client that is years ahead of the current mobile client. Here's a link. If you like it even at all you should buy the full version. The app is so much better without ads and the developer is super responsive and great (send him an email if you have questions!)
I use Slide for Reddit, It has a nice design, tons of features, is highly configurable to your liking and is open source. Oh, and no ads. :)
Android System Webview is your answer for that. Once you have that installed and enabled, it should function as you want it without needing to do anything else.
I'm not sure, I haven't been using the official app for many months now. You should try Sync for reddit, it has all the features of the app and the developer constantly asks and listens to feedback. Make sure to join the beta, it completely redesigned the UI and it looks gorgeous
Infinity for Reddit, it's the closest I could find to the normal reddit app in UI design. The only downside I've noticed so far is your inbox is hidden behind a menu, so you don't get the notifications in the bottom right like you do on the official app
Mine seems to be up for a few days. I also see 1-star reviews from others show up as I open this link in incognito:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.reddit.frontpage
Not sure how the reviews that show up by default are selected and it seems to change as I open that page, might be some kind of rotation, but pretty consistently a bunch of 1-2 star reviews up there in the past few days.
Best (and by far the most fully featured) app is Reddit is fun. No problems with the video player on it.
After doing some research (Installing and uninstalling Reddit multiple times) I've found that Reddit 3.0.1 is the best version, it still has the message, and has none of the promoted garbage
This is the App that I'm currently using for my Reddit Account. I already have the Backup feature enabled on The App. It says syncing every time I check the app. It says that it's syncing to my Google Drive Account. But I don't know if it's working or not. I've also read the Reddit Backup Codes don't work with the new or old Reddit layout either. Several users have posted that their Reddit Backup Codes aren't working even after changing the Reddit layout multiple times. So I don't know what's going on. Chances are that I will become one of those unlucky Reddit users. And my Reddit Backup Codes won't work for me either. I will be permanently locked out of my Reddit Account forever with no change of getting back into my Account.
Well, I just tried using Infinity and Boost with the same results, zero images & videos anywhere, also I can't give awards and send images in the chat, I also tried at least 3 older versions of Reddit without any change, I submitted a ticket but I don't expend any positive results soon, anyways, Best of Luck ✌️
First uninstall Reddit app then go to Google Play store > Settings > Auto update apps > Do not auto update
Download an older version of Reddit app from here: https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/redditinc/reddit/reddit-2-23-0-release/reddit-top-trending-content-news-memes-gifs-2-23-0-2-android-apk-download/download/
Then you can log in. If you want to, you can update that version and your account stays logged in.
Copy pasting from another thread:

And it works again.
The more precise regex I found for urls is here.
(http(s)?:\/\/.)?(www.)?[-a-zA-Z0-9@:%.+~#=]{2,256}.[a-z]{2,6}\b([-a-zA-Z0-9@:%+.~#?&//=]*)
It parses correctly both examples here. The first problem I found is when someone forgets the space after a dot like in "end.begin of next sentence". It thinks end.begin (as long as the second word has 2-6 characters) is an url because it can be. If that is a problem you can use this one that requires the http part:
https?:\/\/(www.)?[-a-zA-Z0-9@:%.+~#=]{2,256}.[a-z]{2,4}\b([-a-zA-Z0-9@:%+.~#?&//=]*)
Or you can use a version where you need http or www. to start. I think old reddit is this way.
The second problem is when there is a ".", ":" or "?" at the end. Again it can be part of the url and sometimes is, specially the ?. But in almost all cases I found you can remove the character if it is the last character and the url will be okay even when the character is part of the url. Leaving it causes problems more often because the [:.?] is more often just punctuation and not part of the url. So I just remove the last char if it is [.:?] but keep all other instances of them.
The underscore could be a problem like that, because it could be markdown for italics, but even though it works using underscore, it is not the standard way to do it, that is using asterisks. I think it is retroactive compatibility. You could test if there is a matching underscore not in the url but it wouldn't be correct 100% of the times anyway and I think this is so rare I would consider underscore as the last character part of the url always.
Underscores that aren't the last character of the url are not a problem with this regex unless you want to do italics in a non standard way inside a url. That would be very rare and shouldn't work anyway.
Thats answered at the link below. There are no ads in Apollo so no way to make money off it without in-app upgrades. The subscription pays for a notification server which is an ongoing cost.
https://apolloapp.io/pro-ultra/
I paid the $5 so I could customize the gestures and its great to have a classic app with no nags to upvote or post, no sub recommendations, and the video experience is far better. The reddit ads actually dont bother me. Its the video player and nagging.
Unfortunately, the unofficial apps remain the only way. Try Infinity and see if you like it: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ml.docilealligator.infinityforreddit
I guess infinity is only available on android. But here is the link if you wanna take a look. And yeah you are right.

Well, no idea how this happened but you could try one of the third party apps like this one while waiting for a fix. Official app is pretty buggy most of the time.
I've been using Nova Launcher with the Lines Free icon pack for years now. Lines free will automatically change all the icons it has presets for but then you can also go back and pick what you want them to be from a massive selection
& Easily backs up my settings to google drive so when I get a new phone I just restore and everything is how it was. I didn't even realize google was changing their icons until all the posts on reddit bitching about it haha
I can suggest you Boost because I tried few apps and is the only one I like but you should try others too if you want.

They're EVERYWHERE. Its amazing that some people haven't been enlightened yet.
There are a lot more but those are some good ones.
Wait I'm using the Official reddit app.
Isn't that what this sub is for?
Are you referring to the App "New for Reddit"?
Yes, rif is fun for Reddit works perfectly, and normally works through Reddit outages too. It has ads but if you pay like $5 for the platinum version it gets rid of them. I pay for Reddit currently, though, so I'm annoyed that the official Reddit app always has so many issues compared to third party apps.
I'm on LineageOS and I'm using the Recorder app that came with the ROM, so idk if you can download it separately. But I've also used this one before and I remember it being good.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.quantumbadger.redreader
use unofficial apps then. like RedReader. Just turn off all the pre-cache options.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=hr.redditoffline
If you don't post much and mostly "lurk". Use RedditOffline to download on cheaper/free wifi, then read stuff on the go.
YSK that there is an ad-free, completely free Android reddit client called Joey for Reddit. I dislike the official mobile reddit app due to their ads.
For people on Android, you can share the post or comment from Reddit to this app and then open the link in a new tab in Chrome.
It's janky, but easier than restarting Reddit and trying to find the post again.
Reddit is fun! also you can set it that what ever subreddit you want when every it gets a new post there is an icon in your notifications that shows an r swipe down and you find the subreddit and click and go to it. Its amazing.
Edit: check it out. More pictures in this link
Here's a link. If you like it even at all you should buy the full version. The app is so much better without ads and the developer is super responsive and great (send him an email if you have questions!)
