Thank you so much for the quick, kind and detailed reply.
Patience I have no problem with, I just had never heard of Mozilla taking down an extension just for a audit. Usually it's something more serious...so I probably over reacted a bit.
Can't tell you how much it means to me and I'm sure so many others that you care about your users so much.
Thanks again, and cheers.
Just want to throw this link out there for anyone else who can donate. If any developers deserve it, it's these guys:
Just a suggestion not forcing or judging. Why don't you use Google Chrome? It works really well on Lion.(I am using it) Have you had bad experience with it?
As for your question i found these instructions here.
Safari Menu/Preferences...
Click on the extensions tab.
Choose the extension you want to uninstall.
Click the Uninstall button
You're a dear!

In the meanwhile, you could move nsfw subreddits to a multireddit (see r/multihub for examples). you'll have to use old.reddit.com/subreddits/mine to edit multireddits, but you can navigate to them on new reddit from the hamburger menu on the left.
Several articles has suggested it has to do with backwards compatibility. Basically a lot of old software checks for if (windowsVersion.StartsWith("Windows 9") to check for Windows 95/98. This could potentially mean that old software could break, since it would try to run as if it was on Windows 95/98.
Examples here: https://searchcode.com/?q=if%28version%2Cstartswith%28%22windows+9%22%29
A lot of people seem to use FB Photo Zoom but not Hover Zoom which works on over 20 sites like Flickr, Picasa, Reddit, Twitter and of course FB itself.
Well thanks for the completely unsubstantiated and pointless contribution, /u/DeadBallloon -- but no... RES certainly doesn't do anything that would "help" reddit track you.
You can read our privacy policy on the website.
The only thing that RES might "help reddit" know is that you use RES, because RES self-identifies when it makes API calls with a parameter like "RES=true" or some such.
If your'e not satisfied with our privacy policy, and don't feel like browsing our source (which is open for all to look at), then by all means, choose not to install / to uninstall.
Here you go. Hope it doesn't bite us in the ass later when it comes to updating to the next version.

Hat tip to /u/AbsurdTech for their efforts in supporting the Firefox community.
> I won't comment on JavaScript since it is proprietary to Oracle across the board
Actually, no. You're confusing JavaScript with Java. Java is proprietary to Oracle. JavaScript was developed by Netscape at about the same time and called it JavaScript because Java was the cool thing at the time. The proper name for the JavaScript language (which nobody uses) is ECMAScript, because ECMA is the standards organization responsible for it. You're probably not very interested but here's a copy of the standard (the license is at the beginning).
As to the speed of the JavaScript engine, it's not option 1, since Firefox and Chrome support more APIs than IE. It's also not necessarily that the implementations use less code, but the code may be better optimized -- for example, I believe Firefox and Chrome use a JIT compiler (just-in-time compiler) to compile the JavaScript to bytecode while executing it. This is more complicated to implement, but it really improves performance especially when code is run many times over the life of the page (e.g. an application like Gmail or Google Docs, or even something like RES). It looks like the newest versions of IE's JavaScript implementation uses a JIT compiler as well.

Symbolic links are possible on Windows XP, but only for directories. But that shouldn't be a problem in this case.

Hi there. The answer to your query is actually on the wiki.
Without wanting to sound accusing at all, would you mind me asking a few questions about your usage of the wiki so that I can improve it for other people?
GIF sucks and I want it to die.
Problem is, WEBM isn't supported in all browsers that RES supports.
we're not real keen on adding browser specific things that we must maintain separately...
EDIT: it seems only Safari doesn't support webm at this point, hrm.
Too many other reasons that I won't use Chrome. The biggest current one, TreeStyleTab. I am aware that there are two ways of getting your tabs on the sidebar in Chrome, both fail to be even 1/10th as nice of a solution as TreeStyleTab in FF. All they accomplish are tabs on a sidebar, that is it.
Hi there, the answer to your query is on the wiki.
Can you please take a few moments to fill out the wiki questionnaire? People aren't using it, and I'd like to work out why. Questionnaire here.
Incorrect.

FYI: Those of you running Nightly (aka Minefield) you can get the Nightly Tester Tools and turn off compatibility checks (Tools -> Nightly Tester Tools -> Force Addon compatibility). This will allow you to run Grease Monkey, etc.
You can get the Nightly Tester Tools here.
edit: If you are running Nightly, etc WTF are you doing WITH OUT the Tester Tools ?!?!?
@OP: I am running the latest version of Nightly and it's working fine with RES, Grease Monkey, NoScript, ABP, etc with compatibility turned off.

Install either Stylish (Firefox) or Stylebot (Chrome). Create a new style for 'reddit.com' and add -
.voteWeight[title*="TheBeardlessSquirrel"] { display: none; }
Your point score will be hidden while others will remain.
Why is opera still so far behind? 4.5.0.4 everyone else is on 4.5.2.
Anyway all opera users i suggest you do what i always do since updates take 10 years...
download https://addons.opera.com/en/extensions/details/download-chrome-extension-9/?display=en
Then download from
https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/reddit-enhancement-suite/kbmfpngjjgdllneeigpgjifpgocmfgmb
Works fine for me 0 bugs since opera and chrome are based on same engine and all it should have no problems at all.
Opera store is quite lack luster not where near support of chrome so i just use that addon and install everything from chrome store all stuff on opera is ether out of date or not as new or not even on opera store.
RES is a browser plugin, called Reddit Enhancement Suite and/r/enhancement is a sub dedicated to it. Night mode is a feature of RES, not Reddit.
You can install it by following the following link: https://redditenhancementsuite.com
After that, you can enable night mode by clicking the gear that will appear next to your username/preferences and selecting ON on the Night Mode option.
I've said it before and I'll keep saying it:
You should not be using Opera! It was sold to communist China years ago. You're literally sending your private data to a country that "secretly" murders its own citizens to harvest their organs for foreign rich assholes. There is absolutely no valid reason to use that "browser" anymore. By the way, this is coming from someone who's loved and recommended Opera to hundreds of people in the past. It went from being an almost magical piece of software to something very evil... people just don't realize it because of its fancy wrappers.
The creator of Opera went on to make Vivaldi, which is much more advanced and customizable even in it's relatively early builds.
Watch this interview with Opera's creator, Jon von Tetzchner: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oI-DrmORu98
Give Vivaldi a shot: (Always use the latest x64 snapshot for best performance.) https://vivaldi.com/blog/snapshots/address-field-speed-dial-fixes-vivaldi-browser-snapshot-1609-4/
(I'm not affiliated in any way - just a big fan who's kept up with the socio-political bs in the tech industry.)
Are you sure it's not a specific few features that are turning you off? Click the [RES] on the top-right of Reddit and check out all the included functions. Disable some that sound worthless to you, and change around the configuration for keyboard navigation. (I hate the default configuration. Now I've got it on "W" = move up, "S" = move down, "A" = upvote, "D" = downvote, and "F" = show / hide comments. I can hardly use Reddit without that now.)
I know you said you didn't want an extension, but even it were to be implemented in RES it would obviously be limited to Reddit. I use Orbvious Interest for Chrome and it's just a matter of right-clicking the link and selecting 'Save link..'. It could barely be any less trouble.
Alternatively you could sign up for an api key and then it would be a simple matter of adding a button which would save the link directly into your queue.
It can be achieved using Tab Mix Plus and possibly others. If you go to 'Events > Tab Opening' and uncheck 'Diverted Windows' it will force the [l+c] into unfocused tabs. The only thing is that it makes every link open in the background. Whether that's preferable is up to you.
I had a similar problem minutes ago when I upgraded to Firefox 6: Somewhat bizarrely all pages would display correctly apart from Reddit's front page which only showed the default layout. I figured the script had become corrupted and reinstalled it. This fixed it.
EDIT: Not a fix, unfortunately, was still getting random weirdness with Greasemonkey.
Have switched to Scriptish and this seems to have cured the issue.
Can you please take a few moments to fill out the wiki questionnaire? People aren't using it, and I'd like to work out why. Questionnaire here.
Unless such list already exists, is updated, and free to use, I doubt it. I don't think RES team has enough time and resources to write and maintain what's basically completely different project.
You might be interested in something like https://www.mywot.com/ it does not focus on advertising, but I doubt that sites with very intrusive ads and mandatory signups will have high ratings (just guessing though).
If I understand http://www.greasespot.net/ correctly, there's some kind of workaround in 0.9.4 but I've got that loaded on my machine and I don't see any behavioral change vs. 0.9.3. However, I think that this may all be related to a bug in FF itself, there's apparently a ticket open regarding that issue.
Not presently, no. I checked the 'new' tab of /r/Scholar and only 3 out of 100 posts had no comments. Probably your best bet at the minute would be to use a bookmarklet to highlight posts with 0 comments without having to hide/filter the rest. Something like
javascript:(function(){$('.empty').parent().parent().parent().parent().each(function(){$(this).css('background-color','yellow')})})();
would give 'empty' posts a yellow background. It's not ideal but it does the job. If you aren't sure how to make a bookmarklet see here.
The only other alternative would be a userscript to do this automatically, at least if/until the option is added to RES.
RES doesn't quite have this feature, but it tries to solve the same problem in a slightly different way:
visit /r/Dashboard - you can create widgets for your less trafficked subreddits, rearrange them, adjust how many posts show up, etc...
The reason RES doesn't have such a feature is primarily one of logistics. RES only runs once each time you open a new reddit page. To notify you for new posts on a subreddit, it'd have to periodically query reddit for that info - and if you have no reddit pages open, RES wouldn't even be running in order to do so!
Adding the feature isn't exactly impossible, but it's quite difficult to get "just right", and the Dashboard is a different approach to solving that issue. Have a look, you might like it!
Also, I haven't tested it, but you might try this IFTTT recipe!
https://ifttt.com/applets/235137p-reddit-new-posts-in-subreddit-notification
or if you aren't an IFTTT person and Zapier is more your thing:
It's a web service, check it out. Basically what you want to do is set it up so:
IF: New post in subreddit (r/SUBREDDIT)
THEN: Choose a form of notification service (Twitter, email, etc). IFTTT doesn't support Reddit messages, unfortunately.
edit: on review, even with the style enabled it doesn't work.. I'd (politely) ask the subreddit mods if they can have a look. tell them they're welcome to ask questions in here about subreddit styling for RES / night mode as well as have a look at this wiki page
Whoop, I think I found the culprit. The problem goes away when I disable Web of Trust. Probably not worth your attention to search for a workaround.
Couldn't find this reported elsewhere:
When I try to add a user tag, the page jumps up to the top. The box still comes up, but I have to scroll back down.
I'm using Chrome 15.0.874.106
I thought Reddit Companion 1.1.1 might be interfering, but disabling it didn't fix anything.
I think that's due to the image size settings that you have in 'Inline Image Viewer'. Are you using 'Large' by any chance? Resetting it to 'Default' should help.
On the topic, for Chrome you should check out Hover Zoom if you haven't already, especially if you're an image-heavy user.
You can install RES "at your own risk", but I'm not able to test / support in beta versions of browsers, so any help you get if things don't work right will have to be from other community members who are hopefully able to debug javascript etc on their own.
You can do this by installing add on compatibility reporter -- which I tacitly discourage unless you have a really compelling need to be running a beta version of a browser.
>However, whenever I see a neat symbol and / or phrase of words that I just love to use, I would have to have it saved somewhere for me to access it to copy+paste it
The copy/pasting thing is an issue on all sites. I use Quick Note which you can use as a scratchpad. Open it in a new tab, copy your link/symbol/phrase and then click back to original tab, paste.
Also keep something like this bookmarked for convenience.
I can't see this being added as the whole special symbols/ASCII stuff is limited to a very small number of people. Don't take my word for it though :)
You must be using a script/extension that handles this behaviour. Look at what you have installed and it will be there. This is one such example.
It could be made smaller but then someone would come along and want it changed back/bigger etc. It may be added as an option eventually but until then you have several options.
Edit the RES source file called 'reddit_enhancement_suite.user.js'. Change line 5079 which should read
RESUtils.addCSS('#sr-header-area a { color: black !important; font-size: 100% !important; }');
to
RESUtils.addCSS('#sr-header-area a { color: black !important; font-size:8px !important; }');
Install a CSS editor like Stylish or Stylebot and add this as a rule for reddit.com
#sr-header-area {font-size:8px !important;}
Edit your browser's own CSS file. 'userContent.css' for Firefox or 'custom.css' for Chrome. Both files are located in their respective profile folders. Again adding -
#sr-header-area {font-size:8px !important;}
Thanks for the quick reply. I actually noticed there was a greasemonkey 0.9.9 here. Just installed it and everything worked as advertised. BTW, thanks for all your work on this!

Upvote yourself to redress the balance or hide the number permanently with CSS like so -
.voteWeight[title*="Nwsamurai"] { display: none; }
You'll need something like Stylebot to apply the CSS.
Cool, I'm kind of the same. I'm head of product at [Getaround](www.getaround.com), (that's me in the middle holding the cup).
I'd love to see it up on git so I can add some cool stuff and fork it. Maybe I can help you get onboarded? We do it for new employees.... :)
On a touchpad: click both buttons at once... at least that works on my laptop touchpad.. no promises for yours...
since you mentioned a command key, though, maybe this thread will help?
As for why I haven't made an option: out of respect for hosts like imgur and min.us I'd like to not scrape potentially 100 pictures at a time from those hosts with zero effort by default... They pay for their bandwidth.
You may have success with adding the URL
https://redditenhancementsuite.com/latest/
into your local AdBlock list, e.g. uBlock origin on all but one of your devices.
That way AFAIK even if the tab opens it will be closed immediately, and if you are lucky it will prevent opening in the first place too.
Edit: That being said, I empathise with the position of the developers too:
> * it reduces the amount of repeat questions about something mentioned in the changelog, > * it's their only source of telemetry, > * RES updates quite infrequently, you probably won't see this tab for another few months, > * it is the only reminder about contributing to RES.
so I hope people don't disable it completely, just on their secondary devices.
If you use Chrome, this is the best option you have: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/cgmnfnmlficgeijcalkgnnkigkefkbhd
I think there's a Firefox extension too. Make sure you add all your procrastinating URLs in there.
>You can find more details and a temporary fix in this issue thread: https://github.com/gorhill/uMatrix/issues/795
that's 404, gorhill disabled the issue tracker...do you have a copy or a write-up or something?
If you used https consistently, all anyone listening in would see would be a connection to a reddit server and then an imgur server, followed by a garbled mess of data. They wouldn't be able to tell which threads or images you were looking at. Both the full URL (i.e. anything after "reddit.com") and any content sent to and from the server is encrypted and the key is only known to your browser and the server at the other end.
To make sure you use https wherever possible, I highly recommend installing HTTPS-everywhere in your browser.
As far as I understand, the extension forces the use of https when connecting to reddit and imgur specifically (as well as a ton of other sites). That is your browser will connect via https even if you open a regular http link to those sites.
Hold on, that is an old version(2.1)
Here is the last version I had of 3.4(the one before 4.X)
http://codepad.org/IjUmYDNn/raw.txt
Save it as "reddit_enhancement_suite.user.js" and then drag and drop it into firefox to get the install message
The mainstream browser is the one with millions more users right now.
http://caniuse.com/usage_table.php
You're wasting your time trying to evangelize to me. Go look for a developer who is interested in supporting Maxthon.
Try this userscript https://greasyfork.org/en/scripts/5033-youtube-always-play-in-highest-quality-everywhere
It works great for me. You can change default quality level from highest available resolution to 1080p or 720p.
Also, http://IFTTT.com can be triggered by a Reddit search, for instance https://ifttt.com/recipes/185911-new-story-by-airz23.
You can configure it to email, IM, or any number of other options, like SMS in the example above.
I'll give you that I was misinformed by my quick Google search concerning the OS versions that have been released. I'd forgotten about Lion, Mountain Lion, Mavericks, Yosemite, El Capitan, and Sierra. I'm a bit behind.
However, my same computer running on Leopard (an older OS) is selling on Amazon for $171 lowest price. It's worth a bit more than $50.
I think what really irks me is that we live in a disposable society. Why can't something that's good and works well not be considered junk just because there are newer versions out? Why must we toss out support for what is older simply because it's older? Sorry, Grandma, your Revolv smart home hub is now obsolete because the cloud service it's based on was shut down after it was purchased by Google, even though you bought it just a month before that happened.
Just to clarify, you are using Chrome from the Dev Channel, correct?
https://www.chromium.org/getting-involved/dev-channel
Or are you referring to the mobile browser Chrome Dev?
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.chrome.dev&hl=en
What was wrong with the listing?
(Just wondering after going on a bit of a wild-goose chase to find out about what changes there were upon noticing the releases page lacked an entry for v5.12.6.)
I thought the problem was with the image expandos, ie the ones that you click and the image expands automatically? Your problem is with imgur, not RES. You sure someone hasn't been messing around with the zoom or something? If you just open a new tab (Ctrl+T) and copy/paste in an imgur URL does that also zoom? Like
You should grab HoverZoom if you haven't already.
I'm not sure if it will work, and I'm too lazy to test it myself, but maybe this Chrome extension will solve your problem.
Mozilla's Add-on Compatibility Reporter
Now all add-ons will work no matter version you update to. Works with Aurora too!
No problem. If you want control over the tab behaviour as you mentioned, then you should take a look at Tab Mix Plus or Tab Utilities.
Will these do?
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/stylish/
http://userstyles.org/styles/33320/the-darker-side-of-reddit
I'd like to say that your settings are safe and sound but it seems they are lost. I can't be 100% but it doesn't sound good. If it's any consolation I also lost my settings during the changeover.
The user tagger bug is fixed for the next release.
For the tabs issue, have you tried something like Tab Utilities to give you better control over where tabs open?
As of v5.12.3, the pop up now works with the redesign.
https://redditenhancementsuite.com/releases/
Unfortunately, what doesn't currently work is the actual filtering, but expect it to work at some point in the future. RES is slowly getting support for the redesign, one feature at a time.
I am currently on Firefox on Windows 7, but this happens at home on my Linux boxes with Chrome & KB SSL Enforcer. If I click cancel, it proceeds to the page just fine, but it does get rather annoying.
You could use my Chrome extension, RedditHider. Its whole job is to auto-hide items after you've viewed them, or voted on them, or... (the behavior is configurable).
I have been searching and searching and searching for a solution like this. Which is why I'm finding this 5 month old post. This would revolutionize the way I use reddit. So much so, that it would drastically increase my enjoyment on this site.
I find it incredibly stupid that you were downvoted for this suggestion. I also find honestbleeps to be in the wrong for not including this functionality. No, reddit doesnt auto hide when you upvote. It does hide when the page refreshes once the option is set. But there's no "auto" to it.
I could use reddithider for Chrome, but I'm a firefox user. So I think this functionality is key and should be implemented across all compatible browsers.
If reddit can't handle this increased load on their servers, then reddit is a shitty fucking site ran by know nothings.
You mean the local storage where RES stores its prefs? If so, it varies between browsers.
EDIT : To expand a bit.
Chrome stores the prefs in sqlite format in the file
chrome-extension_kbmfpngjjgdllneeigpgjifpgocmfgmb_0.localstorage
To view use either SQlite browser for Windows or install the FF plugin SQlite Manager.
Firefox RES prefs can be viewed and edited easily enough by going to
about:config
and filtering for 'RES'. There will be corresponding entries for each module.
Safari I have no idea though I'm assuming similar to Chrome. Opera I know where the prefs file is located but it is encoded in some unfamiliar manner.
I just use the Firefox addon Image Zoom.
Right click and scroll any image to zoom. Works great with either a mouse and scrollwheel or a touchpad and scroll gesture.
Ok. Sorry Doublepost, but here was the fix for me, if anyone else is looking here. This error is part of the official bug fixes for greasemonkey version 0.9.9. Greasemonkey is now at 0.9.10. Mozilla website still only offers 0.9.8. But if you go to this page all versions you can get the other versions, add that fixed the problem for me.
If OP is referring to this extension then I felt like opening it for you here.
Not for any particular reason, only because I'm bored.
This is out of scope for RES. Take a look at IFTTT (specifically this trigger); there's probably also a bot you could run that would do this (with a bit more effort).
If you have both an evernote and an IFTTT account you could also use IFTTT to export your saved threads to evernote and organize it from there.

It's not the same thing. Android runs DalvikVM, but applications are coded in pseudo-Java. So, Firefox has to do a hell of a lot of work just to get an addon to work correctly; also, apps submitted to the mobile firefox addon-site must be approved. I think there's maybe one or two mozilla devs left who are approving extensions for use in mobile firefox, given that FF beta ~~hasn't updated in over 6 months~~ updated a month ago, but slightly more recent - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.mozilla.firefox_beta&hl=en, and the stable ~~for a year.~~a month ago. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.mozilla.firefox&hl=en
Edit: fact correction
Firefox/Mozilla in desperation have tried to adopt a speedier update policy. In other words, they are now going pretty much directly from 5>6>7, rather than all the incremental numbers in between like they used to.
This is no indication that they are making more progress, just that they see all the competition on higher version numbers, which to some people = more up to date. The latest specs show that FF is lagging behind Chrome and even IE to a degree. Here.
I got the impression that the it was out of beta and to be released shortly.
http://www.engadget.com/2011/08/13/firefox-6-breaks-out-ahead-of-schedule-gets-official-august-16t/
Maybe i was a bit early to download it, but i assumed that this was the same thing that will be released on tuesday. Am i wrong? Also, will this all work when this version releases on tuesday?
no, the blog post is just a little older.
this implies that if you can freely decide, you should use the new way, the iframe. convinced?
Nah it's a separate thing from shadowfox...the link is just in his github's wiki. Here's the direct link to the restart button, which is a js hack: https://gist.github.com/Sporif/ad6e917d87787491538bac80d3c8918c
But I recommend shadowfox. It's pretty good. Look over that github for extra tweaks and you'll also find dark scrollbars.
Auto Tab Discard reloads suspended pages but it saves where you are on the page. FAQ is here. Works better on my fast desktop than it does on my shitty laptop, but both benefit from it. It's a good extension.
Depending on your web browser, there are fixes for this.
For Firefox, I put the following lines in %APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\ <YOUR_PROFILE> \chrome
:
/* Changes new tab background to dark grey */ browser { background-color: #373739 !important; } tabbrowser tabpanels { background-color: #373739 !important; }
Note that on the rare ill-formatted webpage, it might turn black, so you will need a bookmarklet prepared to reset the background-color
to white or text color
to white.
Expandos has nothing to do with paging. Sorry if that message was unclear, I've opened an issue to fix it.
This sounds more likely to be an issue with the Never Ending Reddit feature. What version of Chrome are you currently using? According to the known issues page, Never Ending Reddit is broken with older versions of Chrome (< v50): https://redditenhancementsuite.com/2016/09/01/500-issues/
I've eliminated #1 by using curl. I'm 99.9% sure that I can eliminate #2 as well. Here is what further makes me think it's the server end:
$ curl -D - -o /dev/null 'http://redditenhancementsuite.com/whatsnew.html' HTTP/1.1 200 OK Server: nginx/1.0.5 Content-Type: text/html Last-Modified: Mon, 30 Apr 2012 16:27:49 GMT Expires: Thu, 31 Dec 2037 23:55:55 GMT Cache-Control: max-age=315360000 Content-Encoding: gzip Content-Length: 6107 Date: Thu, 03 May 2012 20:58:35 GMT X-Varnish: 1542902569 1540005781 Age: 64522 Via: 1.1 varnish Connection: keep-alive
There is a Varnish proxy instance here that is serving content that it thinks was last modified April 30, and which is set to expire in 2037 if you go by the Expires header, or in ten years if you go by the Cache-Control header. Those are extremely aggressive headers, and whatever is setting them is configured very badly. If I switch to SSL, I no longer get a response from Varnish, but I still see the outlandishly aggressive cacheing directives:
$ curl -k -s -D - -o /dev/null 'https://redditenhancementsuite.com/whatsnew.html' HTTP/1.1 200 OK Server: nginx/1.0.5 Date: Thu, 03 May 2012 21:11:23 GMT Content-Type: text/html Content-Length: 17821 Last-Modified: Thu, 03 May 2012 05:30:46 GMT Connection: keep-alive Expires: Thu, 31 Dec 2037 23:55:55 GMT Cache-Control: max-age=315360000 Accept-Ranges: bytes
And, for what it's worth, this response does contain the 4.1.1 info, as evidenced by its Last-Modified date. But since this response instructs a cache to keep this content forever, it's no surprise that the Varnish instance is serving stale data -- it was told to.
I don't know anything about your setup, but I'm reasonably confident that my ISP is not doing any transparent proxying, as I don't see any such Varnish headers when retrieving any other site.
What browser do you use? This digs more into the more "native extension" kind of thing and might be better served as a non-reddit-specific thing...
I, for one, use Textarea Cache for Firefox, which is awesome.
If you're a Chrome user, there's Lazarus, which I haven't tried myself but appears to be similar...
I only suggest these because unsaved form data is more applicable to the entire web than just Reddit, so you may find these even more useful than any functionality I could build into RES.
You may be interested in this then. It is the reddit mail icon in Chrome that displays when you have a message. I don't know if there is a similar extension for Firefox and Opera, but this one is at least for Chrome.
For your original question, are you talking about the little reddit alien on the tab?
You can force compatibility with this extension. That doesn't mean the extension will work, but you can at least give it a try. Other than that, you'll have to wait for [chromakode to update it](/socialite).
The version of Greasemonkey in AMO is compatible with FF4. You don't need the nightlies anymore.
After you install Greasemonkey, go here and download RES into greasemonkey (just click "Install into" and select install on the window that appears).
To configure RES after you've installed it, click the "[RES]" button on your userbar (top right of page, next to "preferences").
You can skip the first step if you already have greasemonkey installed, and you can skip the second step if you have RES installed.
If youre using firefox, use this link to install greasemonkey into firefox. If youre using opera or chrome, do a simple google search for "greasemonkey (insert browser here)."
After your got that installed, go to this link, and where it says "install into" click that. A dialog box will open to confirm, and then it does the rest automatically. Refresh Reddit to see the changes.
Welcome to the community!
I thought it was in Reddit's user preferences, but the only option I'm seeing is to open links in a new window. I use Tab Mix Plus to do exactly what you are looking for.
