I was afraid you would ask that...My guess is you'll need a third-party app or xposed module to get the job done.
I've heard good things about AcDisplay - it's a lock screen replacement that wakes the device for notifications, and I think it has the ability to turn off motion sensing.
AC Display is my favorite so far
Waking the phone to lock screen when you take it out of your pocket or turn it over is something I can't live without any more. More than that it's just the simplicity of it. I have good lock from Samsung but it screws up occasionally on the lock screen but I still use it for other aspects of the UI
Edit: spelling
What is wrong with DynamicNotifications? That is the only app with the specifications you listed. If you are willing to not have those specificatoins, you can try AC Display which is about as good as you can get.
Note: Stop whining and shitting on reddit. The site will be as good as your questions and the community you post in. Most people here won't care if you leave anyways.
Your Moto has Moto Display. Now, most phones have Ambient Display baked in. Does yours have any settings along those lines?
Before Lollipop, I used AcDisplay: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.achep.acdisplay
I currently use ACDisplay. Very clean and simple. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.achep.acdisplay&hl=en&referrer=utm_source%3Dgoogle%26utm_medium%3Dorganic%26utm_term%3Dacdisplay&pcampaignid=APPU_1_SaPqVIjxBeSHsQToqYDYCw
It works just fine on the 6P. I tried it out but ultimately didn't like it turning on my screen whenever I moved my phone around, but it definitely does what it's meant to. If you're just looking for an ambient display alternative you can try out AcDisplay
Well the actual clock widget configuration may not be possible, but you can get a similar feel with AC Display which I personally love.
Plus the way it displays actionable notifications is pretty sweet. I suppose you could turn off the notifications is you just wanted the clock/date.
You should check out Ac Display it works alot like Moto X's active display. I disabled ambient display and use this instead its a good alternative. You should definitely check it out.
Ac display is what you're looking for here- https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.achep.acdisplay
I don't know about wrist flick but double tap to unlock is available if you're rooted (there are a few kernels )
Welcome to G3aradise - I've a had a few phones over the years and it's my favorite piece of tech that I have and the best phone I've had overall.
I don't know so much about touchless control. I assume there's a way to set up always listening, but it'll be a battery hit most likely. I use Nova Launcher which allows you to trigger "OK Google" from any home screen. It's something I guess.
To get back some of the Moto X-type screen notifications I highly recommend AC Display https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.achep.acdisplay&hl=en
I love AC Display and it'd replace my lockscreen, but it doesn't play allow Knock Code. The other alternative is which directly mimics Moto (it's also good, but I converted to AC Display about 6 months ago - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.greatbytes.activenotifications&hl=en
I use AcDisplay to do the same thing, you can set it to turn on the screen for any app.
linkme: AcDisplay
*Apparently the linkme bot doesn't work in this sub, but here's a link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.achep.acdisplay
It's likely caused by your stock lock screen. I know on Samsung devices you have to go into phone's settings to change the lockscreen wallpaper, but you have to download an image to your gallery. If you set the lockscreen wallpaper and then change your Nova wallpaper, you should get what you're looking for. If that's a hassle to you(which it is to me), you should try AcDisplay. You can just set the wallpaper you want in Nova and it'll transfer over.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.achep.acdisplay
Stock Android 5.0+ has a feature called Ambient Display that does just that. When you receive a notification or pick up your device, it will show a black and white version of your lock screen for a few seconds, letting you see your notifications. It should be in Settings > Display. Samsung probably removed it, though it wouldn't hurt to check.
If you don't have Ambient Display, you could also install an app called AcDisplay. It works very similarly.
Chroma is close to stock and has privacy guard in place of app ops with all the additional little features like the reboot menu. Not sure if ambient display is working, the option is there but the developer suggests using AcDisplay.
ooof, lucky you. That phone man. Anyway, awkwardly Samsung insists on having a separate wallpaper on your lockscreen. I was going to suggest Muzei which would have been able to set your wallpaper as the album art. That wouldn't have given you the old controls though.
Maybe try ACDisplay?
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.achep.acdisplay&hl=en_GB
I don't think I'll have the time to make a tutorial during the week, but if it helps, you could watch this and try to learn as much as possible about Zooper -- it is fairly easy once you get the logic behind it. Once you've got a concept in mind and create your widget, you can use it with AcDisplay as your lock screen. Anyway, if you find yourself having trouble, just PM me and I'll be happy to help you. Cheers!
Have a look at AcDisplay. It looks like it could replace Moto Display and it supports widgets, lock screen music controls, and the proximity sensor.
Also, it's open source.
nexus 6 user here
pros
Large screen, after 3-4 days you'll love it. My former G3 feels unusable small now
Awesome battery life!
Modding.... MODDING seriously, it's a Google DEVELOPER phone, what else do you want?
No bloatware, everything runs smooth. Even after a couple of months... (looking at you, samsung)
Pretty nice design (my opinion)
OLED Screen (must have app)
cons
It's pretty large, which can be a con... If you have small hands, it can get pretty slippery
With Android 5.1 Google Services eats up all the battery (that's a problem on almost every 5.1 device IIRC)
Yeah, I remember when the original Moto X first came out Droid-Life was obsessed with Active Display (rebranded to Moto Display). If you wanted to try the experience out you could download AcDisplay or Dynamic Notifications. It isn't the exact same experience, but it gives you a feel for it.
You can try using a 3rd party lockscreen. My favourite one is AcDisplay but I am not sure if it supports the S4 (it should). Tell us if it supports it or not ;)
Have you considered another lockscreen? I haven't tried these but they get great reviews and a lot of attention from enthusiasts:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.achep.acdisplay
There you go. Make sure you have Xposed framework. After you have Closed framework, active the AcDisplay module and reboot. To make it your lock screen, you must enable "enable when no notifications" in the AcDisplay settings so it stays set as the lock screen even when you don't have new notifications. There are also some other neat settings to mess with. It has an active mode that turns the display on when you pick up your phone (I leave this turned off). It comes default set to show a black screen instead of your wallpaper (to save battery on amoled displays) but you can enable your wallpaper in the AcDisplay settings.
I don't think this phone has that... just when there no pass it loads up the homescreen or what you was last on, I always use password it's annoying at times but that is one thing I do miss about iPhone was the fact that I could answer my text messages on the lock screen... this phone you can't... hate how Samsung took away widgets on lockscreen ... it's on the Galaxy S5 and Note 3... only thing I can think of you doing is trying to use 3rd party lock screen from Google play
The two I recommend is
I use an app called AcDisplay. It lets you customize what appears on your lock screen, and display notifications from selected apps. Mine displays battery percentage.
See https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.achep.acdisplay
I'm confused whats happening.

whats the Tiny text icon? are you talking about the ambient display (black screen, clock, and the messages icon)?
you should be able to double tap the screen to wake to the lock screen, it shouldn't bypass the lock screen (unless you are not using ANY lock screen at all) then you should be able to reply from the lock screen.

if you are not using the lock screen at all, then you can get away with using something like acdisplay . my only issue with that app is that there's a double lock screen...but if you are bypassing the lock screen anyway, this should work jut fine for you. I haven't used it much, nor any time recently, but my vague recollection of it is that it was very similar to active display on the Moto's
Yeah, Next. I used that for a while.
AcDisplay is pretty nice too - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.achep.acdisplay&hl=en_US
Always hated how my Galaxy S5 hard coded the camera app on the lock screen so I kept looking for something else that'd let me select whatever camera app I wanted. That's how I came into these. But lock screen apps seem to act a bit goofy at times, like showing the desktop briefly before they actually "lock" things up. I don't use them anymore.
Excellent!
Have you had a look at AcDisplay on the Play Store? It hasn't been updated since 2015 but it has the user interaction design down pat. The way it displays notification icons in tiny circles, how you can hold them down to reveal the content of the notification and the way you can swipe them away to dismiss them (only from the lock screen, not from the notification shade) is all perfectly designed. Even the animations are delightful. It would be awesome if you could bring some (or all) of that to your app.
Can you please take a look at it and tell me how you feel about this suggestion?
I like using this app AcDisplay as replacement lock-screen, though an issue you may have with it is it's lacking any password protection.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.achep.acdisplay
I think (someone correct me if I'm wrong) that it's a security thing with Android. you can never really "get rid" of your stock lock screen unless you choose to have no protection on your phone (so like no PIN/password, etc) I used AC Display in the past and I ended up having two lock screens - AC Display and stock. ended up disabling my stock lock screen and going with AC Display with no protection.
This is how I'd do it-
Lockscreen looks kinda like AC Display.
Home screen I'd use Nova Launcher, to change the icon size and grid until it matched. Then I'd just fine a flat style square icon set like Alos.
I recently started using Ac Display after trying Echo Notification. They're both good IMO, but I prefer Ac because of the abbreviated notifications it gives. I shows an icon for the app generating the notification, pressing on it gives a preview of the message/notification and options such as delete. Only slight draw back is that I have fingerprint unlock set up and the phone alternates between pattern unlock (Ac Display default) and the fingerprint unlock. NBD.
It is this years model. Most of their amoleds can run lock screens like that through third party apps though. I'd recommend AC Display if you have an older Galaxy device.
I'm pretty sure the font is from ACDisplay. If it's not, it could also be caused by the theme font I'm using, which is MIOS.
ac display is your best bet https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.achep.acdisplay&hl=en
after installing it make sure it is allowed to 'autostart' under the security app --> permissions --> autostart
How about AC display in active mode. You can also see weather and notifications too. Screen wont be permanently on,you can use wave to wake.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.achep.acdisplay
Not on cyanogenmod. I think it may have had to do with AC Display for some reason. As soon as I uninstalled it the problem went away.
You would have to install a lockscreen.
I use AcDisplay as my daily driver and it has this feature, but I'm sure there are others. Check it out!
I'm very disappointed that I need to have a secure lockscreen enabled to use Android Pay. Anyone else disappointed?
For a few years now, I've used AcDisplay as my lockscreen and had my system screen lock set to "None". Android Pay requiring a lock screen effectively breaks AcDisplay's usefulness.
Now I'm either going to have to ditch AcDisplay (very sad), live with two lockscreens (very sad), or live without Android Pay (very sad). :'(

I believe it is native starting with CM12.1S (although, finicky in my experience so far).
On CM11S and CM12S, I used AcDisplay.
You can emulate that behavior with AcDisplay.
Doesn't need root and also offers an integrated lockscreen replacement that works really well. Used it for months on my G2 but on the G4 Quick Glance isn't working anymore. Double tap to wake/sleep works though.
This actually comes close: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.achep.acdisplay
I used it on my Nexus 5 for a long long time before switching to a Moto X. I recommend it! Its customizable, and works similarly for notifications.
AcDisplay - Turns on your screen and shows notifications in a minimalistic view. Also can turn on your screen when pulled out of your pocket via front camera.
Cerberus - Theft prevention app with tons of features including disabling the power button on the lockscreen which is useful for phones without removable batteries.
Sony Digital Clock Widget - Customisable clone of the Xperia digital clock.
Google Opinion Rewards - Pays you a few cents to your Google wallet for each question to buy about two cheap apps per month.
projectM - Best music visualiser on Android, great for if you do acid.
WabbitEmu - Emulates graphing calculators TI-84 - 86
I still think this app is the best designed "ambient display" out there: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.achep.acdisplay
I hope so as well. Meanwhile, AC Display does a good job of displaying notifications.
Oh wow, I'm sorry guys, I completely forgot to put the resources...

No, but I just remember that an app called AcDisplay let's you put widgets on the lock screen.
There's an app, AcDisplay, that will mimic Motorola's hand wave to wake feature.
I haven't used it myself, but I think ACdisplay might do what you're looking for. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.achep.acdisplay
Lockscreen is AcDisplay
First page: XXXX theme for the weather icon and custom zooper widget for time and date.
Second page: Jacks music widget for the music player and a simple white box made with zooper for the frame.
Third page: Month for the calender widget and Google search bar.

AcDisplay might be what you are looking for
Zooper Widgets

Imgur isnt letting me upload the wallpaper right now Ill try to add that later.
For an alternative to the built in Ambient Display, I used to use this : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.achep.acdisplay
I use the LED notification instead, or you can try AcDisplay or something similar
Here's a swipe to the right with most of the apps I use http://i.imgur.com/KSU9KVC.jpg

I'm using Nova Launcher Pro. The icon pack is mostly Lines, with some symbols using min.
The widgets is Zooper Widget Pro with this custom made widget, which I have edited just a little bit so clicking the day of the week opens the calender, clicking the time opens the clock and clicking the weather opens the weather app.
The background comes from the Icon Pack CandyCons
ACDisplay does this.
I think you're looking for AcDisplay.

Change the lockscreen just as you've changed the launcher, e.g. AcDisplay
AcDisplay. It'll change your life.
have you tried ac display
actually, I've since switched to AC Display, which I like better.
AC Display is exactly what you're looking for.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.achep.acdisplay
> https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.achep.acdisplay
AKA Moto Display ;)
I really like AC Display. It's very lightweight, and it will turn on the screen whenever you get any number of notifications that you choose it to alert you to. You can put your finger on the icon to read the notification/message, and then swipe it away to dismiss it or swipe into it to open it directly.
