I recommend following our rooting guide here!
I do not know if Xposed would work, but go ahead and give it a try.
If you want a stock-ish homescreen, try Google Now Launcher
I cannot test Xposed for you as I'm on CyanogenMod. I hope this helped!
As a Matter-a-fact, yes, Xposed Additions does just this.
Although, you must install Xposed, which is an application that allows the customizations through 'modules', which is just another name for applications.
Download it from the Xposed website, grant root access, and install by going to the 'Framework' section.
After rebooting, you can install 'Xposed Additions' from the Play Store from the first link!
Xposed is a great application and I encourage you to look around the app for more interesting customizations that Cyanogenmod doesn't provide!
Open Camera seems to have pretty good video quality and resolution settings.
On their website, they have links to where you can download the APK. http://opencamera.sourceforge.net/
And here's the Google Play link for referance. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.sourceforge.opencamera&hl=en
Widgets on Fire Phone are nerfed due to the way Amazon manages the memory partitions. Here are some alternatives, only Lightning Launcher seemingly supports widgets, though not sure what they are doing differently than Nova.
• Yes, WiFi tethering works
• Yes, I keep my Misfit and Android Wear connected constantly
• Open Camera for use of camera
One thing is, the ROM creator has disabled NFC because it was draining absurd amounts of battery, he is working on a fix.
Other than that, it works exactly like CM on any other device!
Would this work to block ads w/o a root? https://adblockplus.org/android-install
Can you "personalize" the GUI of the phone w/o a root?
Also sucks you can't downgrade, I know iDevices can downgrade
I'm glad you liked it!
Yep, just flash the Cyanogenmod file!
I'm on Cricket too! Just go to your settings app, under the wireless and networks title select "More...", then select "Mobile Networks" and the following options will be there.
Hm, I don't have an answer for that as Hangouts works fine in mine, try reinstalling?
There's not really a guide, just only grant root access to an app if it's open and you know what it does.
Yes there is, go to Settings > Display and deselect Auto rotate screen. You can also add it as a toggle to your quick settings.
Getting back to stock is extremely easy without the backup. But if you're still worried, you can plug your phone into your computer and transfer the TWRP folder and/or the SafeStrap folder from the SD card onto your computer. If you have a Windows PC then no extra software is required, Mac, you need Android File Transfer
Because of some raw camera feed problems with the Fire Phone's kennel. Some apps that have embedded camera won't work and some will. It's just a matter and downloading and checking. If you do find one, please report back!
Thank you for the Google Calendar and signal feedback! I hope you have lots of fun with your new ROM!
Yes, the Blu R1 is a new Amazon Fire phone that they are selling to Prime members for $50/$60. It's unlocked. Not shipping till the 12th though.
Here's it link: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01F9N5QXI
22-in-1 Professional Mobile Phone Repairing Opening Tools Pry Spudger Screwdriver Kit
(They raised the price! It is now $10)
I am currently using this one. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00L3WHZMK Some reviews said they had a problem with the power button being pressed when they put the case on but mine works perfectly. I have the blue and black. I don't really notice finger prints unless I hold it in such way to reflect outside light on the screen.
Try using GSam Battery Monitor
It seems that AccuBattery dropped KitKat support, moving there API to a minimum of 5.0+, which is unfortunate :(
GSam Battery Monitor has a battery health indicated from the last time I remember using it and that will do just the same. Hopefully with this information we can find a solution to your problems!
CyanogenMod (CM) works perfectly fine without being rooted and can be easily done by using the "full unroot" option in the SuperSU app. Root access is not necessary for booting the phone.
However, there may be another way around the root limitation within your banking app. RootCloak is a popular Xposed module that can hide your root access from certain installed applications on the phone. You can download the Xposed app from here, open it, then finish the installation by selecting the Framework option and using the "install" button. After the installation is complete (and it says so in the "Framework" section of the Xposed app, you can select the "Modules" section of the app and search and install the application RootCloak, then open and setup the app.
Yes, it is completely normal for it to say "SafeStrap disabled" on boot up for ~5 seconds (or clicking continue), that happens on everyone's phone that has Safestrap installed.
However, I strongly advise against using KingRoot or any of it's affiliated applications (ie. "Purify"). The app is made by Chinese developer and is closed source and is therefore rather untrustworthy. While it served it's purpose to gain root access, I purposefully created the guide as to remain it uninstalled.
It's like a car salesman. He got me a nice BMW, but do I trust him enough to handle my finances?
On top of this, most apps that claim to speed up your phone, or "free more memory", like KingRoot's Purify, are usually a scam. If you want a better, legitimate app, I would take a look into Greenify
Hopefully this answered your questions/concerns! If you have anymore, feel free to ask!
A related issue: When you have CM installed, Open Camera is one of the few camera apps that work properly. Has anyone found a QR code reader app that works correctly?
This one does NOT: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.zxing.client.android&hl=en
The page says to uncheck some of the device workarounds in settings to see if that helps, but the app crashes before you can even get to the settings screen.
I would suggest downloading and trying to use this application from the Google Play Store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.defianttech.diskdigger&hl=en
Hopefully this works for you!
During my testing I used App List Backup which worked pretty well for me.
You are very welcome, and it's great to be appreciated, thank you!
Open Camera works fantastically on CM11 + FirePhone, for both photos and hi-res video.
Other apps that use video are still broken (Skype, Wechat, anything that reads a QR code), but just for taking photos and video, Open Camera is a lifesaver.
You would have to install a lockscreen.
I use AcDisplay as my daily driver and it has this feature, but I'm sure there are others. Check it out!
I use NiLS lock screen notification. It's a widget that shows your notifications on your homescreen. Lots of features.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.roymam.android.notificationswidget&hl=en
There are custom launchers that can be installed and there is also an app that will allow you to go back and forth
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=co.uk.captainstu72.homeswitch
But that won't help with getting Google Services running on the device at all.
I downloaded CameraMX from the store, and it appears to work fine. Not sure yet, whether this is the best option available, though. It's merely the first one I tried.
I'm having pretty good luck with "Home Switcher" Also I really am liking Hola Launcher right now. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.hola.launcher&hl=en
First hiccup I'm seeing is when you unlock the phone it's random. This was the same for CLauncher as well.
You either gotta slide right and then you see the FirePhone DP lockscreen or vice versa. Be nice to be able to disable the FirePhone's screen if I was planning on sticking with a given launcher.
EDIT: "This was because with CLauncher comes with a lock screen styled as iOS and it activated once the launcher was installed." I've removed it since then. I have just the FireOS lock screen now.
You can download Swipe Navigation from the Google Play Store to restore the swipe up functionality of FireOS, hope this is what you were looking for!
