The urge to use the slingshot will come in waves for me and my kids. We'll sometimes spend hours just taking shots at a foam target or some random spot at a park by our house. Never felt great about leaving steel ammo everywhere so we started using biodegradable. It flies just as well, dissolves when wet. And if you hit something just right there is a really satisfying burst of dust

For those of you who are unaware, possession of any folding knife that can be opened merely by flicking the wrist is illegal in New York state under New York's 1950's-era law designed to outlaw switchblades.
This has led to numerous arrests of otherwise law-abiding citizens carrying common utility knives particularly by New York City police eager to boost their service records with a "possession of a deadly weapon" arrest. NYC police officers have become quite adept at flicking open almost any kind of foldable knife to demonstrate that it is, in fact, a prohibited "gravity knife."
In 2016, the New York state legislature passed legislation intended to remedy this problem by changing the legal definition of a "switchblade knife" or "gravity knife" to no longer encompass common outdoor and utility knives. Unfortunately, on the last day of the year, Governor Cuomo vetoed the bill.
Some free advice to those of you who EDC any kind of foldable knife, do not take it into New York City (and particularly into the subway)--it's really not worth the risk.
More background on this issue from the New York Times. https://www.nytimes.com/2016/05/31/opinion/new-yorks-outdated-knife-law.html

Thanks!
I kept it simple. It’s a titanium band by King Will. It’s light, comfy, and blue is my favorite color so it worked out well.
I sacrificed my gallbladder to the EDC gods about two years ago. It’s super awesome to wake in the middle of the night in horrible abdominal pain, vomiting profusely, urinating ominous dark brown liquid, all while running a 104° fever. That bastard had to go! Hoping for your speedy recovery!
PS/TMI: You may want to EDC an Ox Bile supplement to take for a while after your surgery. For a few months after surgery, if I even looked at a cheeseburger or slice of pizza, liquid hot lava would start to pour out of my backside with absolute fury. I’ve had luck with this one, which I still occasionally take when especially greezy foods are going down.

Found this during a trip to Taipei. It's a cute little EDC set I keep in my pack that I thought some might find interesting. It's very thin and lightweight, while being good quality.
It was cheaper in Taiwan ($15 USD) but even at amazon price it's not bad I think.
They're inexpensive as well. Amazing watch! It resembles the Seiko G757 worn by 007 in "Octopussy".. So some folks relate it to that (although the Casio looks better IMO).
Let's talk about concealed carry. I know he's still in preschool, but it's never too early to learn how to handle a weapon. At the very least, your boy could carry a small Super Soaker to get into the right mindset... (/sarcasm)

I got mine from ceramicknife.org, but you can find them on Amazon too. They're expensive, can be hit-or-miss in sharpness, and snap under torsional forces. However, if you manage to get a sharp one it can last quite a while longer than normal steel blades. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I don't know who else needs to see this but Fisher also makes a traditional pen shaped pen, that includes an attached clip. It's also made in a whole assortment of colors, which I didn't know until just now.

I love mine, the do a great job and I think the make the music sound better!

For when some creepy person comes up to you asking if you got some change.
Make sure it's loaded with lots of change. Wink wink.
This may not be exactly what you're looking for but I keep a strong magnet on the back of my phone so I can stick my phone to things. I use it ALL THE TIME. It's most useful in the car with a steel mount that it magnets to, as well as any time I need a phone stand because I can stick my knife or multitool or lighter or whatever to the back of my phone and boom, phone stand. It's super useful for taking group photos because I can stick my phone to a street sign pole and set a timer and get a group photo from a good height. It's incredibly useful. I don't even use the mount in my car anymore but the magnet is so dang useful on my phone that I don't think I'll ever remove it even if I never use the actual car mount again.
I like what both you and /u/riam_neesons are saying. I come here to see interesting stuff that I might buy, but I also want to know it's quality.
There's also a lot of mimicry going on. I have a hard time believing everyone who carries a pocket notebook actually uses it. That and the pry bar fetish.
Then again, I said the same thing about pocket pens and prybars and I bought this and just used it last night to unscrew a power outlet screw last night cause I didn't want to walk 10 feet and get a screw driver. And I use my pocket pen multiple times a week.
I'll share a couple things worth knowing for those of you who are gonna stock up a tech bag soon.
Get everything compatible with USB-C
either one of these will charge your devices as fast as anything out there. Now stock up on cables with one end being USB-C and the other end being whatever plug your devices have.
My dude, those are knockoffs of the venerable Tec Accessories P-7 Suspension Clip!
If you spend 10x as much on the real ones, you too can can spit out that mouthful of a ridiculous name whenever someone asks what that little hook is about.
I study Mechanical Engineering and now work mostly with sheet metal and electrical housing, September is 1 year anniversary at work for me :P
And yes, those items are sitting on a extra large mouse pad, an awesome upgrade for your desk, believe me. I got this one here, the site is legit and if you fork out a little bit more for shipping you can get it relatively fast.
Hey all, thought I'd share this impressive little item with you. I bought it on Amazon as a "fuck it why not" purchase, since it was $7 and I already own utility blades (they're like 50 for $8ish). I'm very impressed. This thing feels solid, and I love the idea of never having to sharpen it. It's also tiny and super easy to slip into a pocket. Check it out: https://www.amazon.com/Gerber-Lite-Pocket-Knife-31-000345/dp/B002RILCLY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1470515385&sr=8-1&keywords=gerber+utility+knife
Why the downvote? you can find them there for like 4$
in case it's too hard to type "fidget cube" in the search bar
You’ll get a ton of moisture from the soil. As others have mentioned, oil the shit out of the knife and choose a better container. That tin container will be a tetanus toy in a few months. Get an airtight box and put some silica packets in there.
My uncle has something similar to this where an entire table breaks down into a bag no larger than a normal camping chair. And his was made of aluminum so it was light as well. He travels on a motorcycle across country and he always had his table, tent, and chair. All fits easy on the back. He can get up and go any time. :)
There's apps for it, dude.

I personally use Stocard, but that might be Australian stores only. You can add whatever cards you want as custom cards, though. I accept it's personal preference if you just prefer having a wallet, obviously.
Sorry about the car bud. I hope they didn't get away with stuff that was too valuable. If you plan to replace your BOB and keep it in the car maybe you'll like something like this. My buddy keeps his BOB in it, he seems to dig it.

Got this pen on Amazon , was $6 including shipping all the way from Japan. Small and slim enough to be hidden in my wallet. Seems to be pretty well made and writes smoothly. Size comparison with SAK pen from 91mm Plus scale and SAK manager retractable pen. I don’t want to carry a separate pen in my pocket all the time, as I usually do not use a pen that much and I do have a space pen in my lunch bag. This pen-carrying option fits my need perfectly.

This is genius. How bad-ass would a little kid feel to whip out the mini Neosporin spray and a band-aid when needed? That's a future first-responder right there.
It seals minor wounds with a satisfying and searing pain and tastes like shit. It's the perfect thing to keep you away from your nails.
As far as I can tell it's not a best seller on Amazon. Both of the bags listed have only a few reviews, several of which are negative.

No issue with domestic flights. I wanted a decent tool for when I rent a motorcycle for travel and while they had to inspect it to confirm, they were more interested in my grooming scissors which had a ~1" tip.
I need something a bit larger that functions like an actual fork and doesn't stab my hand when I use it. I used the spork in the set as my daily rig at work and I have another set for backpacking and camping. Super durable and easy to clean.

"Working Effectively with Legacy Code". I feel your EDC should include at least 1 handgun for that. Maybe some antidepressants as well. In my work-place (I'm sysadmin, not dev) there are many women programmers, but only one of them is in the "senior" team. They volunteered her for the "code review" job, basically sanitizing rotten old code, from long-departed employees or from acquired software or whatever. I hope you like what you do, because this woman I know is constantly in pain and blames the men (in total jest) for giving her the shitiest job in the org.

I got mine here for $93: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00Y3IR5M6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_pYJ5Bb4WWFBD6
Amazon and Harbor Freight have a slightly different one available for $80, but I prefered the design and size of mine over it...
Here is a link to the alternate model on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0069KALB8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_P0J5BbJF90BDM
Even though mine was slightly more expensive than the alternate model, to me it was worth it. Mine is more like a "jewelry box". The alternate model looks more like a "tool box". Mine is slightly less tall and has smooth round edges. The alternet is taller, chunkier and has sharper edges. One of the complaints that I read about the alternate model is.. Although it has two locks, one for the top and one for the front, they lock keys do not match... Mine does not have any locks. Rather, it has a very nice metal "clasp", which when twisted, holds everything closed. Overall, either of these boxes would be great for storing your gadgets and gear. Again, I simply prefered the design of the one I picked, over the alternate model.
Also, mine didn't come with a mirror (a real one would come with a mirror)... So, today, I added a mirror. I used a 3" concave x20 power mirror, a magnet, a washer, and some double-stick tape, so It's removable. All from Walmart for around $10.
The removable concave mirror is not intended to be used for vanity. Rather, it is to be used as a magnifying/inspection tool... When held properly, it can be used just like magnifying glass.
EDIT: I bought some houseplants today, to keep it company 😊

Some of it is outdated, but ~90% is about the same.
Have you tried out easy2boot? I use that on mine. It's set up similar to yours but supports Windows ISOs as well. I'm mostly doing remote support right now so haven't had a ton of opportunities to use it but the times that I have it's worked great.
I got it cerakoted, replaced the front sight with a green halo HIVIZ sight, and replaced the small rubber hogue grip with this PACHMYER one which is larger and more comfortable to shoot with and hold despite it making it slightly larger. I have a 5.11 AMP72 I was using as a BOB, but I’ve since switched to a First Tactical “Specialist” 3 day pack.
First Tactical is a newer company started by (one of?) the guy(s) who created 5.11.
I really like my 5.11 AMP bag, but in the end, I needed something with a bit more room for camping/bushcraft, whatever you want to call it.
I think both brands have roughly equivalent high quality gear and you really can’t go wrong with either. One of the selling points for the AMP was that there’s a dedicated compartment specifically designed for something like an AR pistol, subgun like an MP5, or anything with roughly those dimensions, along with an integrated hydration bladder compartment.
What ultimately led to me purchasing the First Tactical pack as a replacement is, I really can’t stand the AMP’s proprietary “hex grid” system and total lack of MOLLE on the pack, and it just didn’t quite have enough room or the modularity I wanted.
I guess the idea behind the hex grid and lack of MOLLE was they didn’t want it to look too “tacticool” but it still stands out in my opinion as exactly that, but just lacking the functionality of bags that do have MOLLE.
For reference, here’s the First Tactical bag I got First Tactical Specialist 3 day bag
And here’s the 5.11 AMP bag I also still have 5.11 AMP72
Side note: learning the hard way is expensive. 🤷♂️
A nurse on my unit had a similar one from the dollar store (story of my life, I admire an item someone has and it's utterly unobtainable) so I did some digging on Amazon and found these and I love it. It fits all my goofy allergy/pain/random pills.
Classic Alox is $22 on amazon or the cadet is about $30 and comes in silver, red, or black
I would go on amazon or ebay and buy a coin holder so you dont have to risk damaging that pendent, and it will protect it and maybe you could out it back onto a keychain or necklace Something similar to this ~ Universal Large 1.75 Inch Challenge Coin Holder Keychain Black Soft Silicone https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0755QR37S/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_.3ydDbTSCXKCZ You could find bigger and smaller ones too
If you want the best flashlight that's pocketable I recommend the Olight M2R Warrior
If you want the most light for the smallest size, I'd go with an Olight S1 Mini Baton
Both lights have: • Bi-directional pocket clip • Convenient charging • Magnetic Tailcap • Excellent user interface • IPX8 Water Resistance • High Output in their class
The M2R Warrior has: • Olight's excellent magnetic USB charging • High capacity 18650 cell and excellent run time • Dual switches (side for everyday use and tail for tactical) • Reversible clip • 1500 lumen max output
The S1 Mini Baton has: • Micro USB Charging on the Battery • Compactness and Light Weight • 600 lumen max output • Headlamp functionality if clipped to a hat
Personally I like the M2R warrior better because I like 18650 light's for EDC but I may pick up an S1 Mini soon as well for a lightweight option that I can clip to my hat as a headlamp. I hope you find the right new EDC light for you! Also maybe take a look over at r/flashlight. There's a handy list of commonly recommended lights over in the side bar.
Keyring is my preferred app. Problem lies in the scanner technology at various stores. If it's the older laser scanners (like the ones in my grocery store self-checkout) they cannot read phone screens. Newer CCD scanners (like the handheld ones most cashiers now have) will work just fine. I can manually enter my code if I need to at self-checkout and the cashier very helpfully told me which numbers I needed to omit.
There actually is cell service in Mogadishu. Wikitravel: Somalia has the cheapest cellular calling rates on the continent, with some companies charging less than the equivalent of US cent per minute.
I read somewhere that the cellular service benefits everyone, so the warlords all allow it to exist.

For sure. Here's the link, I got it on Amazon. I think there's some 'related product' links that come up on the product page I linked, but they're mostly star wars related.
I think I just searched 'Remove Before Flight Style Keychain' and lucked out that I'm a star wars nerd because that's mostly what showed up.
I bought mine on Amazon pretty cheap, something like this. I use them on my maxpedition edc kit because it allows me to quickly attach it to anything nearby, whether that's a pack, a belt, a line, etc. Really useful.
It’s just a cheap rubber band from amazon, will link it. It’s what I use when I’m banging around working on stuff so I don’t scratch my watch up. I also have a few leather bands and the rubber workout band it came with.

I had a little slot left in my work carry that I wanted to fill with a comb. I looked all over and finally found one that would fit perfectly. Unfortunately, it didn't seem to be available anywhere any longer. Eventually, I found a seller in Oman offering them via Amazon. Objectively speaking, it's not $10 worth of stainless steel or craftsmanship. But, it checks off all the boxes I was looking to check off and fits perfectly!
It was a gift, but I think it's this one.
> Rockbox is an open source firmware replacement for a growing number of digital audio players. It has been in development since 2001 and receives new features, tweaks and fixes every day to provide you with the best possible music listening experience. Rockbox aims to be considerably more functional and efficient than your device's stock firmware while remaining easy to use and customizable. It is a goal to not only offer a wide range of functionality, but where possible make sure that this functionality is presented in a consistent manner that is easy to learn and use. It is written by users, for users. > > Another top priority of Rockbox is audio playback quality. Rockbox, for most models, includes a wider range of sound settings than that device's original firmware. A lot of work has been put into making Rockbox sound the best it can, and improvements are constantly being made. All models have access to a large number of plugins, including many games, applications, and graphical demos. > > You can load different configurations quickly for different purposes (e.g. a large font for in your car, different sound settings for at home). You can even customize your While Playing Screen to display only and exactly what you want to see when your music is playing. In addition, Rockbox features a wide range of languages, and all supported models also have the ability to talk to you - menus can be voiced and filenames spelled out or spoken.
From: Why Rockbox?
I seriously have not found a reason to after I started using DropBox. I always have what I need on all my computers and if I am on another computer I can get to it from the web. I often use it to move files from one computer to another even when they are right next to each other. If you Google "dropbox student" you can double the amount of extra space you get from referrals too! Of course once in a while you need to move something huge, but not often.
*** Yes that is a referal link, I prefer you use it as I would for someone that turned me on to something, if not I provide you the normal LINK (All I/anyone gets from the referral is more space)
I’ve been extremely happy with these nato adapters. They are metal a pretty low profile.
I got the bracelet off Amazon
The Feist is very smooth and lightweight. I am still working on opening it with one hand without slicing my hand open. I have very short fingers and small hands, and that might be the reason for the difficulty. It's very compact, so it fits in my front pocket (woman jeans) just fine. My only gripe right now is that it's turning blue from rubbing up against my jeans.
Just checked my Amazon history, and it looks like they're the Bose SoundTrue wired headphones. But they're probably 4-5 years old now, and doesn't look like Bose sells them anymore.
Went to Stumptown Coffee Roasters to do some editing.
Hadley-Roma Men's MSM881RB-180 18mm Brown Oil-Tan Leather Watch Strap https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B001F0PTNW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_.PJFAbG36831Y this is a link to the Canadian amazon. Not sure the American but this might help!
Change out that flash drive. It's USB 2.0, and super slow, not to mention old - which means more write cycles and more risk to your data. If you're a fan of Sandisk they have an updated version of the Cruzer on Amazon for cheap which also has 8x the storage space.
If you're not particular about the brand/shape I'd recommend going smaller form factor with a metal enclosure for better weather/water/shock resistance and easier carry in the pocket. I have this one permanently affixed to my keys and never even notice it until I need it. There are smaller versions as well if you're going for ultra minimal carry, but fat fingers make those harder to remove.
Also, if your flash drive is not encrypted, do that ASAP! Anything not physically locked down is at risk for data compromise without decent encryption. If you're in a bind you can leverage Windows Bitlocker (not the best, but adequate for most people). Veracrypt is a more extensive solution but will require some limited IT skill to leverage.
TLDR: if the data you carry is important, change out that flash drive ASAP
3m makes a clear vinyl that goes on really easy. Here's an Amazon link to the stuff. You can get it other sizes as well, that's just the first link that popped up. I've used this stuff on so many projects that I just keep a roll of it in my workshop.
It'll protect the art on the plate and cut down on the nose quite a bit. I'd also suggest putting some stick-on cork on the bottom to protect any wood furniture and to further cut down on noise.
All of that out of the way; that looks awesome! My wife made me something similar shortly after my first daughter was born and I use it every single day.
i've used a foam hot wire cutter from Amazon with great success on all types of foams.
On Amazon, the Peanut light is listed as being "Wind, Weather and Waterproof". Good to know your flashlight is wind proof. I hate it when my regular Walmart flashlights go out in the wind.
