Used Total Launcher, free version is enough. It allows you to morph widgets and pretty much anything else. Really good launcher, but honestly it's a little clunky.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ss.launcher2
This isn't exactly it but it's definitely the most customizable launcher out there. It would be hard to make it look like a pda because you'd need to make a lot of PNGs for UI and stuff but it's definitely possible
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ss.launcher2
Absolutely dig your set-up. It's my kinda homescreen.
Great thinking with those invisible icons. I'm thinking i'll do the same. It's so ninja and cool
P.S. Have you tried Total launcher ? It gives you more gestures per icon than Nova. You could set up 10 different apps with just 2 icons/images !!!!
> why apps aren't showing floating notifications
I haven't used other Android devices enough to actually know what "floating notifications" are... but I would blame it on the OS (unchangable due to lack of Root) does not support these.
I know of 'toasts' which are popups that show for a while at the bottom of the screen... but those only show up when I Launch Foobar2000 when I've deleted the previously being played file.
As for the Notifications themselves (like when I plug in the phone), I've just moved over to Total Launcher which contains an option to show/fetch the Notifications into Text-elements... I got those showing up to one side of my Home Screen atm
I use Total Launcher by the same developer. Tons of customizing, you can resize each tile to any size and place them anywhere. And here are the options for each tile
I'm honestly surprised by the lack of Total Launcher suggestions. /u/R0bertCapa you should try it. It has A LOT of customization (i think even more than Nova).
I can do this with Total Launcher, So you'd have to switch to a different Launcher.
It's very different from your usual grid based ones so It'll take time to setup and go through all settings.

I was a Nova user, but switched over to Total Launcher (both bought) https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ss.launcher2
It is better than Nova in customisation, but it has a steep learning curve; the Telegram group is some help.
Total Launchers great if your happy to learn the ropes. Not the easiest of Launchers out of the box but extremely configurable and KLWP compatible if that's your thing.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ss.launcher2
I don't recall seeing a launcher that matches exactly what you describe. As alternative suggestion and it's up to you of course. How about creating your own in the style you want with a DIY Launcher. You'd have to learn it from the Bottom up but at least you'll get what you want.
Total Launcher.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ss.launcher2
Not sure how far you want or need to go with Launcher customisation but if you need the ultimate in it then Total Launcher won't disappoint.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ss.launcher2
You'll love this, many Evie Launchers have moved here. Honestly if your into customisation and want a Kustom Apps compatible Launcher this it, but don't just take my word for it, try it. The learning curves a little steep but that's the price you pay for a highly configurable App. You won't regret it.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ss.launcher2
Try Total Launcher and set windows into catagories with an index page next to the home page, you can also rename the Apps if you want to make them easier to find, that's how I have mine set up.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ss.launcher2
Why does it always seem to be the same old alternative launchers folks turn to when unhappy with Nova, which actually IMHO are not so hot, bah, bah. Try a proper alternative like Total Launcher. Total has nearly all the featues found in Nova and then some, sure it's a fairly steep learning curve but at least you'll get what you want and no spies in the camp. Oh and for those who really want to get into things, this Launcher has a built in fully configurable KLWP type set of elements. Just saying.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ss.launcher2
Total Launcher is a great choice. It's feature rich, well supported by a proactive Dev, stable and no " Branch " integration. There's a growing Telegram community. Many Nova / KLWP users have tried this and according to the Official Telegram group seem more than happy with the App. The only downside is the Apps initiall default startup screen is a little bare bones and it's so feature rich it can be a bit overwhelming trying to get started. Your choice obviously.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ss.launcher2
Take a look at Total Launcher. Your workflow sounds a lot like mine, so I know you can set up most of what you're looking for. It's one of the most customizable launchers I've found besides the old Lightning Launcher, which I don't think is updated anymore. It can take a little effort and time to figure out, but it's really worth it.
You could go down the KLWP route and it's perfectly possible or alternatively you could just as easily recreate most of this in Total Launcher. Granted there's quite a steep learning curve to it but being a Launcher based setup may actually work out better in the long run. I'm not disputing KLWP'S ability to do this more offering an alternative as you did say "thoughts"
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ss.launcher2
So, on Android, you need a customisable launch screen UI called Total Launcher: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ss.launcher2
And then you need the LCARS Total Interface theme, from NSTEnterprises: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nstenterprises.tltheme.lcars
There are also keyboards and calculators and other such apps, also from NST, but I find that the above two is enough for my Trek needs.
Total Launcher, Im using this launcher since 2020 June and it has become my favourite. If you love customizations, you’ll love Total Launcher. Give it a shot :)
You're still gonna need a launcher that lets you do that. Give Total launcher a try.
Set up:
Long press home screen > Menu > Launcher options > Behavior > Enter action > Assign app to be invoked instead of home
Edit: Just tried it !! Works like a charm
It allows you to have different layouts when switching from landscape to portrait
You can have icon grids, or place them anywhere individually. Widgets can also be placed anywhere, as there is no grid to adhere to. This launcher puts Nova to shame when it comes to customizing
I use Total Launcher's overlay app drawer and Swiftly Switch to access recent apps and the app drawer without ever pressing the home button. As a result my home screen is just a calendar widget.
It's ridiculously customizable. No grids, unless you want them, make anything any size you want. Icons can have multiple functions depending on if you tap or swipe it.
Launcher: Total launcher
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ss.launcher2
Wallpaper: full black picture
Clock: native Total launcher clock
Icons: just white circles
You'll have to set up the layout yourself, but it's possible.
Edit: I just checked on my 6T, and the Oneplus Launcher will let you delete the google search bar
Everything is resizable (widgets, icons, and text), you can use a grid layout, or not and just put icons anywhere. App drawer can also be grid or list, and sorted by name or most used, and you can hide apps too. You can also edit folders the same way. It puts Nova's options to shame.
Not free, but I believe you can try it for 2 weeks at no cost. Probably the most customizable launcher there is.
Here is one of my pages
Launcher is Total Launcher, https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ss.launcher2 and the theme is Trek Total Interface. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nstenterprises.tltheme.lcars It's really easy to customize as well.
Total Launcher, Even more options than the coveted Nova
Agree, most of the launchers to me look exactly the same and if they change something it is usually to worse. Having said that, I use Total Launcher. Without configuration it looks rough but it allows the biggest amount of customisation I've been able to find among launchers. Have a look at themes available in market to get a grasp of its potential.
Total Launcher https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ss.launcher2&hl=es and Buzz support gifs but I haven't tried as wallpaper https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.buzzpia.aqua.launcher&hl=es_419
Link me: Total Launcher
Almost as customizable as Lightning, but free. I've found there are lots of themes on the Play Store, and they are really unique.
You should try Total Launcher. It's almost as customizable as Lightning Launcher, but it's free. You can arrange your apps' order maually. You can look some themes available too. It's pretty fantastic, honestly.
You are looking for Total Launcher: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ss.launcher2
It might take you some time to discover all the little things you can modify, but it's totally worthy. Here is a few screenshots of my setup: http://imgur.com/a/5OV3X You can treat everything like if it were a widget and you can even overlap two or more of them! The paid version has some more features enabled.
Launcher: Total Launcher (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ss.launcher2)
Upper Left Widget: Sectograph (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=prox.lab.calclock)
Upper Right Widget: KWGT (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.kustom.widget)
The wallpaper was adapted from the Jurassic World logo by Universal.
Icon theming/animating was done by me.
Launcher - Total Launcher, or ssLauncher, ss paid version They are from the same developer, and Total is the newer of the 2.
Here is a quick how to. If a more detailed one is needed i will have to do that later.
Android ONLY
The $2.99 Key for Total launcher helps with this theme but i do not believe it is necessary to make it work. I made the theme before i bought the key.
download and install total launcher from here or the google play store to you phone.
run total launcher.
long press on your background to open your pages screen as seen here
click the menu and select backup center
create a back up for the current center by clicking the "+" then click "ok" on the popup
down load and save the folder .gameboy to your phone storage/"Total_Launcher_backups" you might have to enable see hidden files on your phone to see the .gameboy folder
go back to total launcher backups and select "gameboy" as your backup. Click ok at this popup
it should now load the theme.
To get to the edit screen with my theme pinch the screen.
If you double tap your background it will open your phone.
If you triple tap it should open your flash light app. (You might need to change the app to open your flash light app) to do this go to Total Launcher settings here go to "Key & Gesture" and find where it says triple tap. Click it then select application and find your flashlight app.
If you tap the bottom circle in the silph road logo it will take you to the weather page. (You will probably have to load your own weather widget to this page)
Start button takes you to the app page
Select opens phone settings
You can change what apps are in the folders by unlocking the edit mode by clicking here on your phone. Then select the folder and click the "select" as shown here
Total Launcher is awesome. Don't know why it goes virtually unnoticed on r/Android
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ss.launcher2
Switch to Total launcher
I like Total Launcher it does everything Nova does and more.
"Total Launcher" https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ss.launcher2
I tried and I tried and I tried to get it as an APK file so it is easier to use, but I came up short. So here are the links to the wallpaper and the .zip file needed to install this.
Before your friend can use this screen, they will have to install Total Launcher onto their phone. I don't think I am using any features that require the key that is for sale at $6, but if you like the app, don't hesitate to support the developer. I can't say enough good things about him, as he took valuable time to help a nobody like me get the most out of his app when I thought I found a bug.
Once downloaded, long press on the homescreen, and hit the menu button on the lower right portion of the screen (three dots aligned vertically). Go to the backup center. There will be a button on the top right to import a backup. Use that, and point it to the .zip file that is downloaded.
In order to access the app drawer, you need to press the home button on your phone. In order to see the translation, swipe up on the home screen. Swipe up again to get to the "alien" text. Areas are touchable in both states.
I'm happy to try and help with any issues you might run into. Like I said, I am no pro at this, so I don't know how this will work. All I know is it works on my phone.
Have fun!
Edit: also also also! Keep in mind I have a different app for texts, and I don't know if you really care about the Vikings. By downloading this, you ought to be able to edit anything you want. I can help you with that when you get that far.
Everyone seems to love KLWP and Zooper, I thought I'd show something different. This is all done with Total Launcher, The Rotox Icon Pack, and the PaperCrush Icon Pack. Nothing else. The wallpaper is <a rel="nofollow" href="https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.samerzayer.themes.rotox&amp;hl=en">Paper Collage</a>
Launcher : Total launcher
Iconpack : charcoal
This is what I've got with Total Launcher. The icons are sort order, tag, and search by letter. It supports folders too. You can customize the window quite a lot, it can be full page if you want it to be. My setup is that I use Swiftly Switch to open the app drawer rather than pressing the home button to do it.
Total Launcher will let you sort your apps however you want there's a "User defined" option.
It has a ridiculous amount of customization

Total Launcher, if you were thinking of Nova you'll love it.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ss.launcher2
I think Total Launcher comes close to what you want.
Total Launcher has proven solid over the last 12 hours
Haven't seen it mentioned. I'm trying many mentioned in this thread
I'm very happy with Total Launcher (after so many years with Nova). You can find help and themes also on Telegram
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ss.launcher2
MY SOLUTION ! I feel your pain, I really do. Why the Nova Devs thought it would be such a great idea to take a well honed over many years, feature packed, buttery smooth launcher, re- code it, drop a ton of existing features and say it's an improvement is beyond me. Hey this is Nova though and we should have seen this coming really, they've always been pompous and entitled, reluctant to listen to user feedback and adapt, take a look at their Playstore rating, "going down, basement anyone" So when this happened to me it wasn't the only miserable failing update, KLWP 3.58's Poor excuse of a bug riden update also left a bitter taste in my mouth. These two Apps together had for years and years been my default setup without a single complaint, a real pleasure. So this is what I did........ Uninstalled Nova Launcher Prime. Uninstalled KLWP, KWGT and KLCK. Installed Total Launcher and paid to go Pro, I've not looked back since. Sure Total's got some rough edges and it's probably never going to match feature for feature but it works, and works well with a proactive dev who welcomes user feedback, oh and a great Telegram community. For those who don't know, Total is like Nova and KLWP melted together all in one wonderfulness. Total's learning curve is a little steep, but easier than KLWP so if your OK with the previous you should get the hang of this fairly quickly. I would go so far as to say Total is only as limited or creative as your imagination, if you can dream it you can build it, great fun. So that's what I did, up to you guys especially the die hards who just won't let go or hear a bad word against these once great leviathans of the Android themers world. Time stops for know man, or App for that matter and Apps rise and fall on a regular basis, the ignorant simply keep on banging the same old drums because they make a comfortingly familiar sound. The Informed and liberal minded of us move on to new, bigger, and better horizons. Here's the link if your intrested, if not I wish you luck on your Titanic voyages.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ss.launcher2
Total launcher lets you do that.
Not possible on Nova...
I can do this with Total Launcher, it may be worth trying.
LAUNCHER: TOTAL LAUNCHER
WIDGET: NEBBIA FOR KWGT
ICONS: The text icons are supported on total launcher. An icon pack isn’t required for this.
Make it with Total Launcher
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ss.launcher2
Nova is good, but if you want even more customization, then try Total Launcher
If you want absolute control and the most customizable options, then Total Launcher.
Total launcher: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ss.launcher2
Total Launcher - Compatible https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ss.launcher2
If you want the ultimate in customization, try Total Launcher
I think I can make it happen with a combination of apps
My launcher(Total Launcher)
It wouldn't be exactly the same (No screen of stuff), but with Total Launcher you can pin a row of shortcuts, and/or widgets anywhere on the screen, and then add widgets, folders, or any kind of shortcut you want with the combo of the apps.
I was in more or less the same boat. I was also a long time user of Buzz Launcher because of how much I can customize it. After seeing the notice, I did some googling and tried out Total Launcher (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ss.launcher2&hl=en) and it offers a similar level of customization.
It's not as easy to start customizing with, so I would suggest looking through the tutorials (https://total-launcher.blogspot.com/p/tutorials_1.html) and maybe find a theme or 2 on Google Playstore to start fiddling with or just poke at it from scratch. It also supports use of Icon Packs, which really opens up quite a bit of resource, without needing to load icon images into the launcher one by one. It doesn't have a huge theme marketplace like Buzz Launcher though, but you can use your own graphics.
If you want configurability, Total Launcher. And yes, it beats Nova Launcher Prime.
The Squarehome Dev doesn't get enough credit. I use Total Launcher myself, and ssLauncher before that.
<strong>Total Launcher</strong>, an icon can have 5 different functions. Tap, and swipe up, down, left, right.
you can hide them using Total Launcher
Use total Launcher
Personally, I'd say Total Launcher (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ss.launcher2) is one of the most customisable, but is possibly too much so. It depends on your taste.
Checkout Total Launcher its awesome.
I use Total Launcher, which has more customizing options than the normal go to for this sub, Nova Launcher
<strong>Total Launcher</strong>, has done this for a couple of years
