Nice suggestion!, please also take a look at Sesame Shortcuts, it can be integrated into Nova Launcher App Search and app icon long press
Sesame Shortcuts - Advanced search
A few launchers (Nova, Lawnchair and soon Niagara) have intergration with Sesame Shortcuts. Not identical, and doesn't launch by swiping down, but it's universial search.
Nova Launcher + Sesame Shortcuts if you like the shortcut feature. You can make your own shortcuts or edit existing ones.
I use Nova, with the Sesame search plug in. Does as you describe. Sesame search may work with other launchers too, it can also be stand alone.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ninja.sesame.app.edge
Sesame is a powerful universal search on Android. It integrates with your launcher, learns from you, and makes hundreds of personal shortcuts. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ninja.sesame.app.edge&hl=en_US&gl=US
This can be done in Nova.
Dive into Nova's settings, go to Gestures and Inputs.
The top option is Home button. Tap this then select "App search" as the action. Optionally tick "Only on main home page" if you'd still like the home button to take you to the main page of your launcher first.
If you want to super-charge the app search, install Sesame which can integrate into the Nova app search to also include contacts and various app shortcuts:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ninja.sesame.app.edge
Just tap the home button while on the home screen and it starts the search immediately.
Sesame paired with Nova is fantastic. I never even use the app drawer anymore.

One of my favorite apps. I regularly correspond with the devs and they're great. I think it's much better than the edge display. I even replaced Google now with it since it works a lot better and faster.
Between that and the app tray you can pin to the bottom of your recents page with the good lock system ui update I never have to go to my home screen anymore except to use widgets
Sesame shortcuts I have been using this to create direct shortcut to the my subscriptions page, but I don't know if this app works for watch later page too.
I'm not sure about the DDG part, but for an app search you can always use something like Sesame if the launcher itself doesn't do what you want.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ninja.sesame.app.edge
Delta has a different style where that one is just like a re-texture. There's tons of packs though I just happened to have delta and Sesame which has some fancy shortcuts. One takes you straight to the Google play store page of an app.
You good dude. I don't use it but you might want to check out sesame shortcuts as well: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ninja.sesame.app.edge
It give you the ability to create your own shortcuts and works with Nova launcher.
Interactive progress bars don't exist in kustom apps, as for the search bar idea, unlike KLWP, KWGT doesn't support animations, and you can't really "Search" in kustom apps as far as I know, your best bet is Sesame search, you can make a touch action to open it and search with it.
I would highly recommend Sesame, it's a powerful tool that will search apps, contacts, and web all in one place. When you add its widget to your homescreen tap on the 3 dots -> widget look & feel -> colors. There you can set it to the dark variant.
Maybe you're looking for something like Sesame? Apparently it integrates well with nova haven't tried it out much myself though. Play store link: Sesame - Universal Search and Shortcuts
Yeah, my most used apps, some of those open into a folder or have Nova swipe gesture for alternative results. But 95% of the time I use Sesame to quickly launch apps and tasks I need.
With the app Sesame shortcuts you can search in many more apps like spotify and firefox focus or google maps. Firefox focus
Sesame shorcuts and nova are a good combination
There's a good list in the Play Store description.
I use personally use it most to switch apps, text contacts, music in Spotify, and I make shortcuts for Maps and Netflix.
You should check out sesame edge.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ninja.sesame.app.edge
It gives you edge-like functionality.
You can pin a bunch of apps thst are accessible by tapping the edge of the screen.
There's also a little keyboard where by tapping one or two letters you can easily switch to any app. It's really light weight and useful. I talk to the devs a lot and they're really receptive to ideas.
It might not be the solution you're looking for but it works really well. I even replaced by Google now with it.
The only disadvantage is the lack of screen shots to help you keep track of what apps are doing what but it's is really fast.
IDK if anyone's here after 6 months, but we're hoping to get this thing going again and would love to hear from you.
The new version of Sesame Edge, with the Super Settings bundle, should be released tomorrow morning.
Oh, and if you have Sesame Lock Screen, you'll want to switch to Edge. It has all the features of Lock Screen and more (it gets the updates).
Check out Sesame Edge. I'm the developer, but I think you might like it if you're looking for something new.
It makes new custom shortcuts for you based on your behavior and lets you pull them up from the lock screen using a transparent keyboard that learns from your choices.
You'll need to go in Settings to turn on the lock screen. I also like turning ON "Hide apps until list is touched", it makes things prettier.
/u/reekthegoat is right, no 3rd party lock screen is a real lock screen. They are all apps that run over the system lock screen. So instead of building our own security on top, we tried to integrate it with the system one, with mixed results. The fingerprint should work on most phones (not Samsung).
Anyways, it's got lots of unique features. Maybe you'll like it.
You might be thinking of the Sesame app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ninja.sesame.app.edge&hl=en_US&gl=US
I used it alongside Nova Launcher when I was on Android. It was about as good as you could hope for with a third party/non-native solution, however it's not nearly as good as Spotlight search on iOS.
I love Sesame shortcuts. My favorite launcher was KISS launcher for the amazing app search, but it doesn't play nice with both displays on the Fold 4 (i.e. doesn't allow them to be different).
I put Sesame in the bottom right of my dock and anytime I need something, I just click and type. So great!
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ninja.sesame.app.edge&gl=US
It's fine if you think I'm naive, but I have a serious question (as no one is willing to tell me when talking about Nova) what data are you worried about? Launchers have the same access to data as every app, which is pretty basic. Access to contacts or anything else "sensitive" needs opt-in approval. If you're worried about general privacy of data on your phone I hope you're running GrapheneOS cause otherwise any data you're worried about I'm sure many companies already have.
As for what's in it for branch. Yes they data mine, but they also have a really good search library (I've used it in development). This acquisition is more because of Sesame and not Nova. Branch now has added the dev of Sesame to help work on their search library and help implement it into Nova, which he's already collaborated with Kevin with Sesame so will be easy. So now they have the most popular android launcher and will market it the same was as Sesame does, that it has a really good universal search engine. I'm guessing the pricing model will eventually change to be to use some search features you need to pay a subscription or something.
So I am worried about privacy too, but anything I'm worried about is opt-in stuff and blocking an app from using the internet is super simple. I do this for countless other apps that are constantly trying to get metrics.
I also use Nova. I've dabbled with Niagara, and it's good for it's unique approach, but Nova let's you assign a ton of gestures to open various apps (ie: double tap the screen to open the phone, swipe up for dock, down for notifications, two fingers down for apps, etc) and between that and it's huge array of customization with how apps appear, animations, hiding apps in the app drawer and folders, you can really get your phone to behave completely differently. You don't even need apps on your screen with Nova- I have it paired with sesame shortcuts
And it's set so if I gesture for the home screen while I'm on it already, I open a universal search that leaves all my contacts, apps and shortcuts available to me in a second.
You can also attach the Google Now screen while swiping from the left like on pixel launcher, which I use a lot too. Turns it into literally a better stock launcher with no downside. Highly recommend it
Yep I got that, was just saying FBM had the opposite issue.
I'm not sure how Sesame does it though interestingly their app description says:
>WhatsApp conversations (not group ones though)
So it seems they had the opposite limitation before but figured out a workaround and forgot to update that.
Either way, it's up to the WhatsApp team to fix it within AppSearch since that only works with the data apps provide to it. If you can send in-app feedback within WhatApp I recommend you do that to let them know individual chats are missing from search in the Pixel Launcher.
Device searching is pretty big. I don't really have a use for it (or couldn't get my brain to use it) but I remember Sesame getting popular a while ago.
Here's the play store link. I always knew this app existed but I never thought it was that useful. You should give it a try for a few days.
Play store's description: > Sesame is a powerful universal search on Android. It integrates with your launcher, learns from you, and makes hundreds of personal shortcuts. With Sesame universal search, everything is 1 or 2 taps away!
You can try sesame search & shortcuts it lets you search contacts, messages, shortcuts and you can also search within a app without opening the app. But the only thing it misses is to search files hope they add this feature too in the future
Both sides have same setup. Zones are all the way up and leaving little gap (little less than height of a keyboard) to bottom.
Since my launcher doesn't let me delete the Google App Bar (I like gesture navigation, so i can't change it), I use Sesame.
It's not the same, but I use Focus as the default search app in Sesame and use it instead of the Google App Bar.
have you tried Sesame ??
in my opinion Sesame will better fit the use instead of chrome search bar. it'll be as minimal as you want, but with a lot of functionality??
Install Sesame and make like a One Handed Operation + shortcut for it.
Works really well, to the point where I barely use my app drawer.
I use Fluid Gesture Navigation + Sesame as recents to replace the awfaul vertical thing on my Android 10
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ninja.sesame.app.edge&hl=en
Looks a lot like Seasame. Which is my first installed app. I can't vouch for it enough. I'll give LaunchBoard a shot and see how it compares.

Sesame adds long press functionality to icons.
As for widgets, maybe a search bar or favorites/bookmarks widget?
Sesame Shortcuts.

maybe give this app a try - it searches a ton of things on your phone: Sesame Shortcuts
i've been using it for awhile and it is pretty great. you can create custom shortcuts, it keeps a running log of your recent searches, it can search contacts, apps, even file names.
Hi! I'm like that other guy, I like having the ability to search through actions for apps. For example, I can type "home" and there's a shortcut for starting directions home for Google Maps. Check out Sesame for some good examples, you can at least see the screenshots to kinda see what it's like. That's what I currently use and it's awesome. It has a Sesame Search shortcut, so I just tied that to a gesture in the MS Launcher and it works great, but would love to see it but in!
Sesame-Universal Search and Shortcuts is an excellent app to search apps, contacts, files etc. It is so good that I feel its functionality should be incorporated in Android by default
Sesame Shortcuts is insanely useful for quick searching anything - contacts, activities embedded in apps (i.e. searching for a Spotify playlist and opening it directly instead of opening Spotify, going to playlists, and digging around for it), actual file names of files on your phone, directly opening subreddits, and all sorts of other things.
it's a free trial and then they ask you to buy it, but you can theoretically use it forever without paying. i personally think it's worth the $2 or $3.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ninja.sesame.app.edge&hl=en_US
Imagine your search bar on steroids. Contacts, apps, shortcuts, regular seaches, search in play store or maps.. Just give it a shot since the first couple days are free and after that a small one time payment gets you the full app.
I would also add that purchasing Sesame is a really good move. It's like $3.49 (in-app purchase) but really speeds up the way you can navigate your phone. You can create shortcuts for basically everything on your phone. Create a shortcut for checking your bank balance, or writing a text to your spouse, or literally WHATEVER you want a shortcut for.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ninja.sesame.app.edge&hl=en_US

It comes with something like a 14 day trial period. It still works after the 14 days but you get a notification thereafter that you need to purchase the application.

Sesame - Universal Search and Shortcuts
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ninja.sesame.app.edge&hl=en_IN - Did found some mod but google login is not working can anyone mod with working google Login ?
Io sono drogato di Sesame che è integrata con Nova. In pratica è come avere una command line sempre lì che attivo con uno swipe down sul launcher. In generale le gesture sulle app le trovo molto utili. E in generale la customizzabilità.
If you're using Nova Launcher and trying to launch a shortcut within an activity then Sesame might be the way to go.
You should give Sesame Edge a try. It allows edge dock and also search your entire phone for apps, shortcuts, contacts, and files. You can even add your own shortcuts for apps that support it.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ninja.sesame.app.edge
Sesame Shortcuts can add this functionality. I don't know how well it can integrate with the stock launcher, but it can be fully integrated with Nova Launcher.
Cool, I suppose it will do for now until you can work out how to fix it... If it is currently fixable/if you can be bothered with it.
This is something that might interest you, and possibly fix it... https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ninja.sesame.app.edge
And if you install Sesame Shortcuts on top of Nova launcher, it just becomes better and better. It gives you the possibility to swipe and type two or three letters to access deep app functions, call someone or search local files. It's actually better than Google search bar's local search functionality. It's just too fast.
Samsung Experience's Finder is capable of all of these (aside deep 3rd party app activity access i.e. posting a story on Instagram with a tap) but it's sluggish compared to Nova's app search, at least this is what I've experienced.
I can search "Personal" on Google (the search category way far to the right of web, images, etc.) via Sesame that gives me a fairly thorough history of activity within apps...for example, emails, texts, Drive documents, Evernote notes, etc.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ninja.sesame.app.edge
It's basically an app that enhances the experience of nova launcher by creating and adding app shortcuts. Also, it gives a way to quickly find stuff on your phone.
Hope, you can resolve the bug.
Subreddit
Not sure if you've seen it, but I might suggest to add on Sesame Shortcuts for a great way to easily access all your apps/shortcuts (including custom ones you can create). It costs a few bucks but has a free trial. Can integrate with Nova, and there's a beta for an edge-type quick access (across all apps). It is very fast, intuitive, and well-made.
If you have the latest Nova Beta and Sesame Shortcuts installed, you can open them from Nova's App Search or by long pressing an app icon (try Settings).
After Sesame is installed, Nova should ask if you want to assign the Home Button to launch App Search. If you do that you can just tap the Home button and get to the shortcuts.
Sesame Shortcuts is a separate app which works with the Nova beta. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ninja.sesame.app.edge
It looks like Sesame Edge part of Sesame Shortcuts.
Try sesame. It has many contextual suggestions as well. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ninja.sesame.app.edge
Gonna give it a spin, since I am already using Nova.
pieces of closed-source code that allow for Sesame Shortcuts integration.
Try Sesame with Nova Launcher. You won't ever use the app drawer. It's so powerfull and suits your needs.
Sesame (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ninja.sesame.app.edge) is the modern replacement for conjure. I've been using it for almost a year and I can confidently recommend it to you.

You can have the same with Sesame which is really well intagrated in Nova Launcher. Worth a try!

If you have Sesame (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ninja.sesame.app.edge) installed, you can do that.
Open Sesame, go to Shortcuts, Joey, Check only the subreddits you want.
Long press Joey and drag those shortcuts to your home screen. https://i.vgy.me/G9G8jm.png
You should try the app "Sesame - Universal Search and Shortcuts"
Favourite feature is integration with Sesame Shortcuts. Man o man they do a great job.
Sesame is your friend. I don't know if it works with Sync, but it most probably does.
It adds a better app search and shortcuts to your Android Launcher. See here.
You may or may not need this depending on your phone and preferred Launcher.
For Nova Launcher on my Moto Z Plus, it adds the shortcut capability that Pixel has. So it lets me use a shortcut to my monthly ticket. When you long press on the icon you see shortcuts you can click to navigate quickly to a function. Even better it allows me to put an icon on my home page that (second icon from the left)goes directly to the ticket.
Edit: Actually it looks like the MTA may have added this shortcut to the app. Sesame just helped me use it better on my phone by integrating with Nova Launcher.
Go to play store page. There you will find beta signup option at bottom of page.

i'm using Sesame, it can detect any number of shortcuts.
Maybe Sesame
There's an app for that.
I think they worked on building Sesame shortcuts integration rather than building up search in the app itself.

Upvote for Sesame.
Not quite the same, but check this out -- I'd consider it an upgrade over Device Search overall, having used both.

I like Sesame's screen edge feature.

It's a shame that Google has abandoned this App, nowaday I'm using Sesame Shortcuts and works like a charm
> To get started with Nova + Sesame get Sesame Shortcuts from the Play Store and follow the prompts.
I'm surprised no one mentioned Sesame
I haven't noticed any battery drain. Should be negligible. On my older phones, it increased performance but it seemed the same on the S8.
I bought Prime a long time ago for Gestures and Unread Counts. I don't use Unread Counts anymore now that there's badges. I dig Gestures. My most used ones are swipe down on the home screen to pull down notifications instead of reaching up for it, swipe up on home screen to open app drawer, swipe down on app drawer to open search. It's minor Quality of Life stuff though.
I only recently started re-evaluating my setup and added Sesame Shortcuts which has Nova Launcher integration (not sure if it requires Prime). It seems useful, and saves me a couple of steps from going to the app drawer. This helps contribute to a cleaner home screen too. You launch Sesame Shortcut by hitting the home button (or customize it to whatever you want) in Nova Launcher. There's default shortcuts and you can build custom ones for your common tasks.
