Or even better, use the Google Docs page with all the screensavers in full quality including 4K HDR. Save them to your drive and use the Photo Gallery and Screensaver app. Only worry about the bandwidth once and get the highest quality.
The app listed in the page linked is CONSTANTLY streaming/downloading the videos... fuck that.
There are several apps that can do it, actually. I use this one and it works great:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.furnaghan.android.photoscreensaver&hl=en_US
But yeah, it should be built-in.
Here's the app, if you're interested https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.furnaghan.android.photoscreensaver&hl=en_GB
Lets you add various other sources too, such as 500px, Flickr and Apple TV screensavers.
I use this app, lets you create screensavers from multiple sources. It even has Aerial shots like the Apple TV.
If you are interested I found this app here in this subreddit. It's a Screensaver/gallery app. Can be configured like the Chromecast ambient display without the banner.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.furnaghan.android.photoscreensaver
An alternative is https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.furnaghan.android.photoscreensaver It has more settings, but lacks the smart album and simplicity in configuration. Besides that it works great!
I've never seen that banner, been on the Shield TV since launch. What screen is this on, the home page? Or the idle screen?
I use Photo Gallery and Screensaver to rotate a collection of 4K wallpapers when idle. Perhaps that will do the trick?
I had the same issues with Aerial Dream, so now I use the plainly-named Photo Gallery and Screensaver:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.furnaghan.android.photoscreensaver&hl=en_US

I think it has what you're looking for, in addition to the Aerial screensavers.
I use this for a screensaver, it connects to multiple sites for screensaver imagery. I myself connect it to my Google Photos account which is my screensaver and I connected it to my mother's Flickr account on the one I gave my mother.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.furnaghan.android.photoscreensaver
This is the exact app you’re looking for
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.furnaghan.android.photoscreensaver&hl=en
As far as I’m concerned it’s the killer app for the Shield.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.furnaghan.android.photoscreensaver
It’s awesome. You can have it integrate google drive photos, and photos on local and network storage, and there are a ton of customization options
Photo Gallery and Screensaver. I load my drone footage into it and use that as my screensaver, like a custom Aerial Dream. It also has other sources to pull from, including Aerial Dream.
Check out Photo Gallery and Screensaver on a Mi Box or Shield TV.
You can connect a Google Photos account and use a Gallery in that account to display photos through the Android TV device.
Yeah, that's why I haven't gotten rid of my old Chromecast yet as well. I found a post by a Google community manager that says it's been acknowledged as a known bug by Google on Android TV with Chromecasts that Personal Photos is even showing up. :/
It's now a feature request but that's still annoying. I did find an app that claims to essentially replace this but haven't tested it at all yet.
Best Daydream/Screensaver/Slideshow App
My pick ...
Description: Showcase your Google, Facebook, Flickr and 500px photos as an Android TV Daydream/Screensaver/Slideshow.
On my Android TV, I use this photo album app for screensaver photos: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.furnaghan.android.photoscreensaver&hl=en
you can set an album to get the photos from, and I shared an album with my wife so we could both add photos - but only my pics show up! I emailed the dev and they researched and found out 'Google doesn't expose any way for third party apps to access photos added to a shared album by other people. '
sooo... I just want that to happen. Shared albums should be shared! And work for 3rd party apps! Get it together, Google.
As far as I know, it's not possible directly from the OS, which is a shame as more and more TV are doing customised "art frame".
The app I bought is this one : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.furnaghan.android.photoscreensaver&hl=en_US&gl=US
Not so convenient to use but it does show the picture you want to display
I'm totally for DIY, but also know convenience can sometimes outweigh that approach.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.furnaghan.android.photoscreensaver is a screensaver app that lets you pull from several cloud sources (Google Photos, Facebook, Dropbox, Apple, etc.), as well as local sources.
Nothing against the other app, but here's another option. I know it's paid, can't see how much it costs now because I bought it years ago.
You'll need to install the app first:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.furnaghan.android.photoscreensaver
Iinm, the free version has limitations so you'll need to purchase to unlock more features.
Yep, we have a shared album that shows pics on our Android TV using this app. Not free but it works with Google Photos https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.furnaghan.android.photoscreensaver&hl=en_GB&gl=US
Not sure about disabling the card features specifically, but you could get around it with a different screensaver. There are a few alternatives in the Play Store.
I use https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.furnaghan.android.photoscreensaver and really like all the features it offers.
Check out https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.furnaghan.android.photoscreensaver
I bought this awhile back per recommendation here, haven't regretted it since. You should be able to us a local folder, might need to mount as network storage on TV first.
Yeah, its dissapointing and I wonder how many sales if any the dev is getting now. I baught it about 2 years ago for $5 or so and was very surprised at the new price when tried to setup for my inlaws.
Anyway, most others recommend Gallery and Screensaver on the Play store. Does most of the same at a lower price.

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.furnaghan.android.photoscreensaver has sever/network sources in the beta (join beta group for app).
It's a free app, but the screensaver is an in app purchase, I think $2-3.
I use it with Google Photos, but there are many sources available that you may also like.
Check out the following support article...
Or you could try the following app. Full functionality isn't free though.
I use Photo Gallery and Screensaver (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.furnaghan.android.photoscreensaver), which displays my photos from Google Photos as my screensaver on my TV. Works with lots of other sources, too. Works very well, and the devs are great.
I use an app called photo galleries and screensaver. It works like ambient mode on chromecasts and the new CCwGTV https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.furnaghan.android.photoscreensaver&hl=en_US&gl=US
It works great! You can set it as default screensaver and it comes on in 5 minutes, turning your TV or projector/monitor into a google photos album! You can also choose other services for photo hosting, but i'm mostly interested in using it for Google Photos
Here's the website you can download those videos. They have both 1080p and 4K versions. (Credit goes to /u/jenings)
You can use an app called photo gallery and screensaver. This is a paid app, but you can use it freely with downloaded files. Because 4K files are large in nature, I put them on my external HDD and the app did not have any problem playing these videos. You just point the app where the files are stored. I imagine a USB thumb drive would work as well. Note that on my setup HDR files did not work, so I downloaded SDR versions and it worked flawlessly.
Let me know if you have any questions.
There is a few video screensavers.. but on the older Firestick it often crashes eventually (black screen but not a complete crash).. maybe the 4K has enough ram for it though.
I’ve tried several but this is seriously the ONLY decent one that works.
Here you go.
Link to playstore page - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.furnaghan.android.photoscreensaver&hl=en_US&gl=US
There are two different in-app purchases. One for screensaver and another for gallery. You don't have to buy both, standalone screensaver purchase works perfectly too.
>Photo Gallery and Screensaver
Are we talking about this one?
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.furnaghan.android.photoscreensaver
>Photo Gallery and Screensaver

>Photo Gallery and Screensaver.
this one? https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.furnaghan.android.photoscreensaver
I use this primarily for the screensaver (which is awesome), but it sounds perfect for what you are asking!
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.furnaghan.android.photoscreensaver
Yes this is what your want:

>5. Apple TV Screensavers on Shield TV
>>Really cool 4K screensavers that look amazing on the big screen. Just install the free APK above and you're set.
How many times do people need to be reminded that this is dumb. It is CONSTANTLY downloading when it is in use. Why not just download the ones you like from HERE and use a screensaver app like THIS ONE to rotate them.
When I got mine - and it's not the S, it's the old version - it cost me €30. Totally worth it for that price. My TV isn't 4k, so not even worth getting the upgrade. You seemed to pay twice that - I don't think I would've gotten it if it cost that much. But having said that, I've had mine for some 3 years now, and use it every day, so maybe even paying more would have been worth it. The Shield, as great as it is, costs much more, and honestly anything that the Mibox couldn't do that it does do, just wasn't worth the extra bucks for me.
1) I use this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.furnaghan.android.photoscreensaver It does a much better job than Google's ambient mode, with lots of other features. It's worth what it costs.
2) For channels, I have to be honest I've never used the homescreen channels - I usually know what app I want to open and just go from there. Maybe someone else can help.
3) Live: I live in Europe and there aren't many "live" channels for us. I do have an app to watch live TV from my cable company. Again, I just launch the app and go from there.
Hopefully that gives you some info to help make yoru decision!
I use the “Photo Gallery and Screensaver” app on my 950G. It has a name that screams “knockoff spyware app” but it really isn’t. It actually works well, accepts photos from a bunch of different sources, and is pretty configurable. I’m pleased with it and have been using it for almost a year.
P.S. Just be sure to turn off the “smart randomize” feature since it doesn’t seem to do what it’s supposed to and ended up showing me the same 8-9 photos 75% of the time
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.furnaghan.android.photoscreensaver&hl=en_US
I use an app called Photo gallery and screensaver on my Sony. Had to pay to unlock the right features but it does exactly what I wanted - showing my photos as a screensaver. It also has the apple TV video ones which are really nice.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.furnaghan.android.photoscreensaver
You could make screenshots of your slides and use a screensaver app like this one.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.furnaghan.android.photoscreensaver it has many settings check it out
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.furnaghan.android.photoscreensaver
I use this app. Actually I couldn't use the option of Google Photos in the MiBox screen saver ever, so I am using this Photo Screensaver app since a lot of time ago. It still works with Android 9 it seems.
I know there are screensavers that can show pictures of an specific album in Google Photos, and your friends and family can contribute too to that album.
It'd make sense if Google photos worked in android tv, what with it being the same company...
But Google is as Google does. Try this.
Photo Gallery & Screensaver
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.furnaghan.android.photoscreensaver
I think the paid version is a few bucks, but 100% worth it. You can add lots of sources like Google Photos, Facebook and can even include images/videos other screensaver apps (eg Aerial Dream...aka the Apple TV screensavers).
I would recommend the "Photo Gallery and Screensaver" app for viewing Google photos on Android TV
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.furnaghan.android.photoscreensaver
Plus it lets you use Google Photos as a Screensaver.
Kind of a crappy name but the app looks pretty good, I need to test that. Link for anyone interested:
Photo Gallery and Screensaver (Google Play Link)
Check out https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.furnaghan.android.photoscreensaver
This will let you use various photo/video sources including your NAS (I believe, you might have to map it to a local drive if the Shield can do that...you should be able to test various sources before purchasing the screen saver feature), Google Photos, Aerial Dream (needs to also be installed), 500px and many more.
The app is free but the screensaver feature is a couple bucks...very well worth it IMO.
Personal albums have just never worked for me, others users have reported the same issue. I've tried clearing data, using non-shared albums and maybe few other things I've forgotten.
I really wanted to use one of the new auto-updating albums, but can't get any of my own images to show. I think this is an issue for all Android TVs, not just Shields.
Art Gallery (Google's selected photos) seems to work fine for me though, so that's what I've been using.
Edit* - in searching for related threads on personal albums, I just came across Photo Gallery and Screensaver. This appears to allow Google Photos as well as other sources...also appears to be paid, but not sure since I can't install in on my phone and my family is currently using my Shield, lol. I'll be checking it out further tonight!
As far as I know it does not work on Android TV at all (Sony TVs do not work). Bit there is a suitable alternative since you can choose your screensaver app in settings: An alternative is https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.furnaghan.android.photoscreensaver It even has more settings, but lacks the smart album and simplicity in configuration. Besides that it works great!
I recently bought Photo Gallery and Screensaver, which has different sources you can choose from. Personally I bought it to be able to use my own photos...
Try to purchase the screensaver in-app from this app . It's a great alternative to AndroidTV's daydream. Love it!
I've set up a few different solutions.
I've set up with just chromecast and some TVs, probably my least favorite due to some inflexibility, but you can just set it up, add the slides to a google fotos album, then set the chromecast to start it's default slideshow using only that album. Upside is that it's relatively cheap, and easy to start/stop you just turn on the TV, and you can add/remove slides on the fly without having to remote in and it'll update itself eventually. Con is that for some reason the chromecast adds a grey gradient from the bottom up you can't remove. And if they're on a large network people can hijack them as there isn't any security build in against people already on your network.
My most liked one is buying a Phillips TV (Or another brand with the same OS I guess) that runs stock android, install This app from the play store then do the same as above, add the images to a google fotos album and start the slideshow. Same upside as the chromecast solution, but it takes a bit longer to start and stop as the app has to be opened manually every time. plus side is that you can sideload other android apps so the screen can be repurposed later without having leftover bits of tech.
Much like your solution, TV and a compustick, but instead of manually starting the slideshow, only shut off the TV, the PC will still run in the background, so it's simply a matter of turning it on, when that's done you can run the slideshow anyway you like, google slides, powerpoint etc. Pro is that when it's set up, you can probably find a solution that can just pull images off a cloud drive and display them that automatically syncs, but it is quite a bit more costly than the other solutions.
Turns out Google left this feature out on Android TV Chromecast for whatever stupid reason. But through a friendly guy on YouTube I came across this fantastic alternate backdrop screensaver that does exactly what I wanted!
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.furnaghan.android.photoscreensaver&hl=de
We've written an app for Android TV that is designed to look and feel like the default Google Daydream/Backdrop. It can show photos from 500px, and your own photos from Google, Facebook and Flickr. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.furnaghan.android.photoscreensaver&hl=en_GB Any feedback or comments welcome!
I think this one can do the work : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.furnaghan.android.photoscreensaver
I use this, it is awesome, IMO.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.furnaghan.android.photoscreensaver
I really like this one. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.furnaghan.android.photoscreensaver
Any video will work. I use this app: Photo Gallery and Screensaver
Send feedback to google to get it removed, I already did.
If you use kodi, you cat get "kaster" screensaver in the settings.
I use this one, it is paid but it is super awesome, gallery app and screensaver. It has pics from newspapers, you can get extra info about the pictures,.. and also has moving video's, also you can set your own pics and video's. https://play.google.com/store/apps/detailsid=com.furnaghan.android.photoscreensaver&hl=nl
This is another one.

try Photo Gallery work good with google photo https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.furnaghan.android.photoscreensaver&rdid=com.furnaghan.android.photoscreensaver
I have been using this for a while, great app and great dev https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.furnaghan.android.photoscreensaver
Is this the Photo Screensaver you're referring to?
Yep, we use this one at home with a shared Google photos album. Does local network as well (not tried it) https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.furnaghan.android.photoscreensaver
Is this better than Photo Gallery and Screensaver, or just different? If so, how?
I use this and love it. You can use Google Photos as a source (as well as others)
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.furnaghan.android.photoscreensaver
Did you check this out?
