Yep. I'm personally using this theme. When it says to select the theme version in overlay manager select "Nougat _7_1+"
Works fantastic! There are some annoying things that can't be themed like the Google search results page, due to it being a WebView.
I'm using https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.brit.swiftblack.layers for a while now. I am on the current beta and I have no problem with applying everything (including Android system and system ui). I didn't have problems on previous versions either.
Unless you are on android pie 9, you don't need to root your phone. One substratum theme that I use since we were on nougat is swift black. I really like that you can use a system-wide black theme and it also does what you want: to change the accent colour. It costs about one dollar and, sadly, they're not giving me any money for this commercial haha :p
Anyway, good luck
yep, no need to root. Quite easy, just have to activate while tethered to your computer XDA Link and then use a nice, black theme like this one Swift Black
I'm not noticing any lags in Chrome. I'm mainly using Pyrope browser on the Playstore (based on the Lineage Gello browser) which is more optimized for our (Snapdragon processor) and also provides the option for dark mode while browsing.
If you're still experiencing lags, you can also try another profile: XANA balanced, Zhana balanced or one of the other balanced profiles will be less laggy. The XDA link provides tons of helpful comments and user experience for the various profiles. A great thing about the app is that you can apply the profile and test out it out in Chrome immediately :)
For better SOT, try also applying black/dark themes to apps, which draws less power on the OLED screen. I'm using the Swift Black Substratum theme which is compatible with Android 7.1: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.brit.swiftblack.layers
Apply it in the Substratum app choosing the v7_1 version. I've not noticed any problems using the theme so far but the app is unfortunately paid though.
EDIT: Changed link to swift black instead of swift dark.
Actually I have a solution for you. Have a read: https://www.xda-developers.com/andromeda-substratum-custom-themes-oreo/
Essentially, it's theming for Android Oreo with no root. You can achieve full dark mode on Android Messages with this theme: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.brit.swiftblack.layers
There's a little bit of money involved, but I'm not telling you where to look wink wink
Anyway, if you need help ask any question.
Sorry...Swift Black.

It's a Substratum theme. Think of it as dark mode for Android.

Swift Black. If you're using a Samsung, try the Swift Installer. It allows you to customise both the main and accent colours, and uses the Sungstromeda framework so no longer needs a tethered connection.
I use substratum to theme most of my normally-non-themeable apps. This is the one I use because I've got an amoled display, but if you don't like fully-blacked-out apps, there are loads of other dark themes on the play store.
This is what the normal dropbox app looks like once I've applied the theme.
'Swift Black', by Per Lycke & Davide Lilli. AMOLED all the things!
re:notification, I've found that if I manually force stop Substratum, the notification goes away and doesn't come back. There's no reason for Substratum to run in the background, unless I'm updating or changing themes.
Settings>Apps & Notifications>App Info>Substratum>'Force Stop'
Swift Dark was a CMTE theme I used before PN went Layers only. The dev (Per Lycke, super active and responsive dev) has a few variations of the Swift themes and only has the Swift Black version available so far for Layers ROMs.
I'll go ahead and check out Grounge! Thanks!
If you're on Android 8 (Oreo) then you want Substratum.
For Android 7 (Nougat), or 9 (Pie), or 10 you'd need root for Substratum to work. For Samsung Android 10 there's a rootless plugin IIRC.
Substratum is just the theme engine, to actually apply dark mode you also need a theme. Swift Black is probably the best out there.
Since Android 11 dark mode support should be built-in so I'm guessing you don't have that.
does anyone know if this method works on Android 10 with OneUi 2.0 (https://youtu.be/a8oSPFO1PmA) with this theme? (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.brit.swiftblack.layers) thank you in advance
i use firefox and a substratum theme, and then dark reader with max contrast to get that true black.
You can use Swift Black substratum theme for black dark mode on almost any app.
Or use Swift Installer as an independent theme engine for black/dark theming.
Its not free, but well worth the price. I use Swift Installer personally, works very well.
One more reason to stick to black/grey/pure black
for those apps that still doesnt let you use dark mode i use Substratum theme swift black
If you're into giving all your apps an amoled black theme this would be my go to: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.brit.swiftblack.layers I use it and the only thing that doesn't work from what I can tell is changing the accent color for the system UI.
Well... I was think about their app, but it's not released yet.
Swift Black is the one I used before the app. It's a substratum theme : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.brit.swiftblack.layers
It's a good use of those sweet Google Rewards credits.
It seems true black if you ask me, give it a shot? I cannot test before a few days
Supports nexus
I have been using them continually since Andromeda came out. If you've updated the OS via OTA, all the substratum settings would get wiped automatically, you've got a new system folder, there would be no legacy themes to cause any problems.
If you're bold enough to play with ADB commands to get Andromeda working, then resetting a rom shouldn't be a problem. If you don't know what you're doing with ADB then don't use it.
Sometimes when you apply updates to apps in the playstore and you might have a white ‘stock’ application for a couple of days ‘till the theme dev catches up. I’ve not had any bootloops or had anything unusable, the worst thing that happens is that you loose the theme. It also makes me less likely to just let things keep autoupdating, which is no bad thing. Substratum has come a long way since the old days and there are several safety features that stop it from breaking an app or the system. My favourite theme is swiftblack, the dev manages one or two updates a week.
Hmm, if your phone has an AMOLED screen then some of the black ones like Swift Black or Flux are nice. Those are the main ones on my radar. They also have light and dark versions that aren't all black.
If you were using an amoled black theme, swift black is supposed to work with Samsung's Oreo as well. I use it for nougat and it's great.
Weird that no ones talked about SultanXDA's ROM. Combined this with Swift Black Substratum Theme, you can manage easily 5h of S.O.T, even more.
Most themes in Substratum are actually on the Play Store.
Here's the one I use, as an example - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.brit.swiftblack.layers
That also means there are paid themes, but you're still covered by the Play Store's return policy if you just want to try it.
You don't need root but you do need a different rom. Everything is black. You can get a ton of themes for substratum in a variety of colors.Swift is my favorite black theme because they have support for nearly every app I have, so the entire system is black as well as most apps I use (inbox, exchange, instagram, etc). Here is the playstore link with some screenshots. Let me know if you want to see something that isnt on there
No root required, but the theme I am using costs 1.99 here
Not really Xposed, but I can vouch for the Swift Black Substratum Theme if you're rooted. It works fine on legacy mode (as opposed to OMS, which can be prebaked in ROMs and doesn't require rebooting to apply) both on Marshmallow and on Nougat, I've used it that way for quite a while.
I'm using Swift Black right now and its working quite well. There are a few hiccups such as the "Reply" option in notifications remaining black, but appearing when selected. A few other things I've notice have seemingly started to work properly, so maybe certain things are enabling bit by bit... Everything is minor and I still recommend it.
Edit: Grammar
I installed the swift black theme and substratum samsung status bar icons + extras.
I use swift black to theme most available user apps (no system ui and android system). It is a great theme and works well with my black theme from the galaxy store.
Secondly, I use samsung extra's substratum app (linked above) to have a stock android statusbar and have the clock in the middle.
Some pictures:
With Substratum engine I use the Swift Black theme that makes it AMOLED black, it's great and updated often.
I'm using this live theme along with the Persona 5 SMS app (aww, it seems it got removed from Google Play, there's an apk here) and a systemwide black + red theme. I'd say it works pretty well.
Theme: Swift Black Substratum
Sort of, but it's usually the other way around. Substratum is a theme engine that relies on overlays for apps. Theme developers create overlays for apps of their choosing, so they focus on popular ones because it's a hassle to maintain them. Every time an app gets updated, the developer has to update the overlay too. There are indeed some apps that don't work with this method of theming, like the eBay app.
Unfortunately, I doubt any Substratum themes have included BBC because it's not that popular of an app. Google apps are almost always included though. See this list of supported apps for one of the most popular themes, Swift Black.
I forgot to mention this earlier, but using Substratum will cost money. Substratum itself is free, but it requires an add-on to use on Samsung devices. You need either sungstratum ($1.99) if you're on Nougat, or andromeda ($1.99) if you're on Oreo. Substratum themes often cost money too or at least the good ones do, like Swift.

Yes I am currently using this theme on snapchat version 10.71.6.0 beta
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.brit.swiftblack.layers
No problem.
It lets you use any Substraum theme. Swift Black is what you'll need to install to get a full black theme.
I Love Swift Black and it works like a charm on my S9+.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.brit.swiftblack.layers
This is about as third party as it gets, but you can use swift black. It looks really damn good
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.brit.swiftblack.layers
I think you'd have to root and download Substratum from the play store
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.brit.swiftblack.layers
Swift Black from Play Store.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.brit.swiftblack.layers
You can still use Substratum. Now that you're rooted you don't need Andromeda.
These might help..
I use Swift Black Substratum Theme.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.brit.swiftblack.layers
Install andromeda, then install subsratum. Then install SX DarkRes, screenshots of applied theme on this link. That will give you black screen phone, contacts, messages, system ui, etc etc. I use a combination of DarkRes and another theme called Swift Black. The Swift Black also mods things like Whatsapp and most of your standard Google set of apps. You never realised how much you wanted a black theme until you see it working on your phone. Make sure you have ADB drivers for your Sony phone installed on your laptop/pc. Download the batch file for andomeda onto your machine, plug you phone in, click the file. It starts the substrtum them engine without the need for root. No more eye strain.
Yep, Substratum with the Swift Black theme!
Substratum + this theme
Swift Black (paid) and AOSP Oreo for OnePlus X (still in Beta)
If you have Substratum, I highly recommend Swift Black.
i use https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.brit.swiftblack.layers it has Whatsapp
