I used FFmpeg for the video part, got lazy and used an app (VideoWall) for the wallpaper part.
The first "hh:mm:ss" is when the clip you want starts, the second is the duration of the desired clip.
ffmpeg -ss hh:mm:ss -i 'Source File.mkv' -codec copy -t hh:mm:ss 'Desired Clip.mkv'
And after we have the video we want, we crop the video to our desired dimensions
ffmpeg -i 'Desired Clip.mkv' -filter:v "crop=x:y:a:b" 'Final Clip.mkv'
This bit was kinda trial and error, we're cropping the video to resolution, I originally tried crop=1440:2560:.... but my source video wasn't big enough so I had to ratio it down. And the a:b part is the top left corner of the cropping.
Here's a download link to the exact video I used for mine.
Just download it and then download Video Wall from the play store. Open up your live wallpapers, click video wall, click settings and point to the location of the video on your phone. Done.
Download this animation poster as .mp4 video file. Then install this app
Open app and locate the mp4 of this and set it. You can also choose other videos, and set them at certain parts to loop.
Here you go! I'm not at home so, I'm a little limited by what I could edit using only my phone and the video is 720p so when all is set and done it wont look the best, but it's still great anyway. Because smart select lowers the quality so much more than it already is and into a laggy mess I kept it as an MP4 that works better. Here are the video files of the 3 of them dancing separately and then the 2 on the left together. It's a bit of a pain to work on them because no matter what I did there was clipping, but at least the one on the right is well spaced enough to be properly by herself. Just made it one for me!
I used an app called VideoWall
Also my phone is a Google Pixel 2 XL
Used the VideoWall app [link]
Another video of kinda static wallpaper. Looks awesome in real life, the video does not do it justice.
I remember seeing some apps on the Play store that do that if you want. I've linked two below. That being said, the purpose of this app is different (at least for now -- it might change if many users want custom videos, I guess): it's to give a neat, preselected selection of truly HD videos you can use as live wallpapers.
Download this video: [link]
Then download this app on the play store:
Then select the video and you can choose homescreen or both.
Years ago I made this animated SAB Live Wallpaper. And because now it's that time of the year where our beloved SAB is active, I thought there are some (new) players who would find it interesting. :)
You can download it here:
You'll need an (Android) app like "VideoWall" [link] to use it as a wallpaper.
I'm using VideoWall on Android to set video files as live wallpapers atm.
I also made this edit on the original thread to perfectly loop the animation, try that out with the app above.
For anyone on android. This is the best live wallpaper app. I've checked them all, and this one lets you do mostly any size and quality with no dropped frames.
Edit: I'm not sure if this wastes more battery than normal. It doesn't seem too as far as I can tell.
For this particular one I'm using Videowall because it's an mp4 file, but as /u/Kyokenshin said AnimGIF works really well for gif files.
The file hosted on MEGA is like all my other Android Live Wallpaper some sort of video (.mp4/.avi). You'll have to use an app like VideoWall ([link]) to use a video file as a wallpaper.
I made several versions as an MP4 so you can download it yourself:
Opening Earth Shot
NYC and Statue of Liberty
Saturn's rings w/ floating Holden
I also pulled the Illus approach from the S4 teaser;
If anyone's got access to 4K mp4's of seasons 1-3 I'm happy to make more.
you can use an app like this one to make a video wallpaper:
If you have an iPhone, I'm pretty sure you can use default mp4's in their live wallpaper system.
Note: this is in the aspect ratio of 19:9 that the Note 10 screen is at, if you want versions for the iphone or other phones, let me know what your phone's screen resolution is and I'll be happy to re-render it for your screen.
A few versions:
Enjoy! If you like it, you can check out the longer version on YouTube too: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gf2H5PZoPeA
Edit: Drive link in case Dropbox gives you issues: [link]
Edit: On iOS you'll need an app like this to convert the video file to a live photo: [link]
Edit: Android instructions:
The Live Wallpaper (LWP) app I use is "Amazing VideoWall". The Launcher is "Smart Launcher Pro" with the "Min" icon pack. The pro version of Smart Launcher is not needed (the launcher itself and the icon pack aren't needed); it only provides a few additional features. I also use "Rotation Control" to keep my phone in landscape, it looks wierdish in portrait but not explicitly bad.
Download the video here on your phone along with "Amazing VideoWall" and go to your "Settings > Wallpaper > Live Wallpapers > Select "Amazing VideoWall" > Settings > Choose Video File > Find where you saved the video on your phone > Select it > Set as Wallpaper.
It isn't resource intensive as far as I know and it has worked great so far.
Edit: If you are using a custom launcher, you may have to go into your launcher's wallpaper settings and set it there.
This worked for me: [link]
I got it working with a app Video Wall minimal battery drain so far, pretty happy with it
use this [link]
i used [link] on android, iphones I've no idea sorry
videowall and other similar apps
This seems to be the most up-to-date: [link]
I've tried many, but this is the best one.
It doesn't drain my battery,no ads and really simple to use.
video only on lock screen, gif can put on home screen
for video on the home screen use this app.
There are apps that does that :)
Give this a shot and show us your results.
Live wallpaper app: my Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+ does not have the feature allowing live wallpaper so I used VideoWall
Wallpaper video: Video taken from the intro of the TV show 'The Expanse', courtesy of u/brett6781's post - I edited the length of the video for my theme.
Launcher: Nova Launcher mostly needed it to change the home screen grid and apply the icon app.
Application icons: Flight - Flat Minimalist Icons - automatically changes the icons of the default apps and the big name apps like FB, Skype, etc.
Time/date/weather widget: Digital Clock Widget Xperia

There's a bunch just search video wallpaper
This app worked for me
Yeah, google had this one as the first recommendation for me: [link]
I'm on an s9+
Search for video wall on the play store. link for the lazy
VideoWall is working fine for me on Android.
You could use this for example but there are several other that can use mp4.
you can use live wallpapers but not a video
A workaround is to use an app like video wall
I just downloaded app called VideoWall that allows you to turn videos into your wallpaper. The full version is only 1.99 which I think is a steal considering I spent way more on gif as wallpaper apps.
Got some hating ass bitches here.
