Details: To be clear, this is not an official CDPR thing. It is streaming Gwent from my Windows PC to Android using Steam Link (which was released today in beta for Android). You need to be on the same WiFi network as the PC to run it (so no Gwent on the train yet!).
Analysis: It is surprisingly playable, even though the cards are a little tiny on a phone. I didn't find any touch spots were hard to use. Cards drag and drop as you would expect on a mobile app. The menus all work fine. There is a tiny mouse cursor on screen. The one major problem is there doesn't seem to be any way to right-click, so you can't open the graveyard (or view the full screen card page). I don't think anything else in Gwent requires a right-click. You can also play with a bluetooth-paired game controller!
(It's not too surprising that Gwent works on mobile --- I've played Runewards, a mobile Gwent clone, on a phone, and haven't had any trouble. You don't need to kill a row for Gwent to be playable on mobile!)
Instructions:
Steam Link is in beta. YMMV! Enjoy!
I think this is great news actually.
Firstly, it means GOG.com will be able to continue their DRM-free policy. (I was worried that Thronebreaker, tied to Gwent, would be only available using a Gwent account and thus DRM which is necessary for an online card game, but totally unnecessary for a single-player RPG.)
Secondly, it's a good marketing move IMO. If you had to install Gwent and Thronebreaker was a DLC inside it, a lot of people would just skip it. ("Meh, I don't play card games / not interested in stand-alone Gwent.") This way, it's being marketed as a stand-alone RPG without the word Gwent in the name, so a lot of people will just pick it up who are interested in more Witcher content. From there, it will have obvious ties to Gwent so those interested in the multiplayer aspects will come over to Gwent.
Thirdly, the tie-in connection to your Gwent account means we Gwent players get rewards for playing Thronebreaker. And people who are just playing Thronebreaker are incentivised to install Gwent to claim their rewards there.
Fourthly, it means that in the sad event that Gwent does fail as a multiplayer game in the next year, it won't take Thronebreaker down with it.
So this is good for Gwent and good for Thronebreaker.
They do support it also, and we are sure lots of users will enjoy them :)
There's different types of players and they like different things, we want to appeal to as many user types as possible.
There's a great article by Mark Rosewater a very experienced designer from Magic the Gathering on this: https://magic.wizards.com/en/articles/archive/making-magic/timmy-johnny-and-spike-2013-12-03
Some shameless self-promotion here, but if you would like a Deck Builder on Android, then I have a free no ads app you can check out called Roach :)
What do you mean? It's listed among the rewards on official site for TB:
> GWENT in-game assets – player avatars, player titles, 5 premium kegs, 20 brand new cards for GWENT
Same in the GoG client.
Dev of Roach here, thanks for the shoutout!
I'm also excited for the mobile future of Gwent, but for now I hope you enjoy using my app.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=cafe.adriel.gwentwallpapers
A member from this reddit made this wonderful app with all cards in the game. Who knows that fallen knight will be my new wallpaper.
Dev of Roach (Android app) here, I am out all day today but will start work on the open beta update when I get back this evening. (5 hours or so from now)
I'm a big fan of Rosewater's articles, this one included. He's done a great job throughout the years of explaining changes to MTG and why they were necessary (even if they weren't popular at the time), or explaining how the designers have changed the way in which they approach the game.
I think his best article is this one though: https://magic.wizards.com/en/articles/archive/making-magic/twenty-years-twenty-lessons-part-1-2016-05-30 It's a must-read if you're interested in game design at all, and its relevance can be seen with every change a game undergoes and audience reception to it.
I reached out to you because I cared and wanted to see if you're ok and we had a good relationship (at least I think we had). The fact that instead of talking to me you create this to try and throw us all under the bus is really upsetting.
> This private community is full of backstabbing [...] individuals
I also have a dictionary entry: https://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/english/ironic
Solved. Anybody who is having the same problem, please go to your gwent page in GOG.com client and click 'browse gwent store'. There you should be able to buy. It worked for me just now. Good luck!
Sorry sir, but you are guite wrong about your first point. Refer to p.34 under Commentary regarding the financial results of GOG.com point 1 :

1*. GWENT sales during the Homecoming project as compared to sales in the initial period of the GWENT beta testing phase (high base effect)*
I recently started doing this with <strong>Moonlight</strong>, which can also add a virtual gamepad on your phone screen, and since Gwent can be played with an Xbox controller, it is even easier to control than just emulating a mouse on your tiny phone screen.
You can even use a real controller on your phone if you have one!
They don't need to do it over Reddit, but they should at least follow the better teams at Blizzard who directly explain the reason for their bigger changes or anything they think might be controversial. Especially if they're making comments like "I felt in my bones that the Midwinter update would cause a lot of debate!"
See http://us.battle.net/heroes/en/blog/21338595/heroes-of-the-storm-balance-patch-notes-december-20-2017-12-20-2017 or https://playoverwatch.com/en-us/game/patch-notes/pc/ and search for "developer comment"
Things like that can go a long way towards making the community feel better about the changes which are important for the metrics of any for-profit business.
Will put the bug here as it seems the same but with slightly different outcome:
Type of Bug: In Game Bug
Description: While opening kegs encountered some transaction error after I chose the card (last step of the opening). Tried to open the keg multiple times with the same result. Then restarted the game and the keg is gone with no cards from that keg in my collection. I then opened the next one (cards were different from the previous one) with the same transaction error. Since I run the Russian version the error is my translation "Transaction is already updated". And I can't get past this error however I try (with restarting the client). The second keg is not gone [yet].
Video / Screenshot: https://www.screencast.com/t/mrw9NmSudN
According to the store page Gwent is only available for Windows
I got it working on Linux using Wine & DXVK, I assume it'd work pretty much the same for you. Look at the GOG Galaxy Lutris install script to get an idea of what you may need to get it up and running in Wine.
The link is technically to thewitcher.com but yeah the websites are all clearly legit upon the mildest inspection and this is also a website owned by CDPR. It's fine to be sceptical of things on the internet or anywhere really but critical thinking goes both ways.
There are no season/event limited cards, you can get all the cards in game, altho you need to buy Thronebreaker(on GOG) in order to be able to unlock premium/animated versions of 20 cards, that came with that game/expansion(you can craft regular versions of those cards without buying TB tho).
As for cosmetics(titles, avatars, borders), I am not sure if you can unlock everything that was available during open beta, as the reward system changed with Homecoming release and we didn't see new seasonal reward trees yet. Most titles can be unlocked through sesonal achivements from what I seen, but I am not sure about old avatars/borders. The only thing you can't get anymore for sure is a Pioneer title from closed beta, if you didn't participate.
Looks beautiful. :) I'm using the Gwent wallpapers app that has an option to change your wallpaper every specific amount of time and you can choose factions, favourite cards etc.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=cafe.adriel.gwentwallpapers
If you're looking for an app, I am the developer on a free/no-ads Android app called Roach.
It has a full card database and deck builder. Enjoy :)
Not sure about gifs but this is a mp4 file.
mp4 source (I used VLC to lower the quality)
It is stated in one of the articles, but not as much highlighted as it should be.
If you are really interested in the "competitive factor" of esports in general go get (legal/legally) Sirlings book "Play to Win". Every article is based upon this book (while PtW is highly based on "The Art of War" but adjusted to sports/esports). It helped me alot as I started playing CS competitively ~12 years ago and all rules can be applied to every fucking comp game. The articles doing a great job picking out the most essential parts and refering these topics to acutal gwent mechanics but reading this book is like a brainwash for yourself in a positive way.
I cannot recall how often I see comments on reddit from people complaining about certain aspects of a competitive game which are completely NATURAL in a competitive environment. But complaining about meta stuff being to OP while there are counters to it, is what makes you a "casual" and as a "casual" complaining about competitive stuff in a competitive game makes you ignorant. With that I dont wanna say that every complain about things being OP are ignorant.. because if there is no efficient counter to such game mechanics something has to be changed in this environment to enable competitiveness.
Gwentify offers this functionality. If you create your collection and then build the deck, it will tell you how much scrap you need to complete the deck.
A bit of self promotion, but if you have an Android device, you can check out my app Roach, which also offers a collection manager and deck builder, but doesn't currently tell you how much scrap you are missing. Coming soon :)
Well sry, but this is propably the worst implementation i've ever seen...there is already a good concept, but CDPR is focusing on pc and console plattforms first for now.
As a Linux user I don't plan on using GoG beyond Gwent and Thronebreaker.
Steam is just outright a better platform for me; the launcher is available natively on my OS. Valve puts a lot of money into bringing Linux gaming into $current_year by releasing their first-party games natively and allows me to play my Windows library on Linux by contributing to DXVK/Wine/Mesa development, on top of offering it all in the simple to use Proton package.
CDPR can't even bother to release GoG Galaxy for Linux, let alone the fact that the store carries tons of games with native Linux ports that don't even bother putting their Linux version up on GoG (due to the lack of Galaxy integrations on that platform.)
I buy games on Steam first, then Itch.io. Maybe one day I'll use GoG for more than Gwent, but CDPR would have to put a lot of effort into pulling me off of Steam.
I'm lazy so I just used the Lutris installer. After installation, I believe I switched to:
Prefix architecture: 32-bit
Wine version: staging-2.13-x86_64
Windows version: Windows 7
Staging settings: CSMT Enabled
Also consider "Emulate a virtual desktop" if nothing is working.
As /u/KPinJo said, it may be best to actually start with beginners guide(updated version was recently posted on TeamRankstar site), as the game changed a lot since beta, in some aspects its like a new game.
The guide should answer most of your questions and explain most stuff, including new ranking system, which changed completely(R30 is lowest rank, while R0 is the highest and grants you access to Pro Rank).
Meta snapshots are rather outdated now, since today's update, but new decklists should start popping up soon, it may be best to check some of the streamers for decks, what they play, what works and what doesn't after update.
One more thing, since you are back, is that you may wanna take a look at the Thronebreaker if you haven't already, its a single player RPG game with combat in form of Gwent battles, with a great story. Its a very good game on its own but it also provides tons of rewards for your Gwent online account. You get 5 premium kegs, all 20 of Thronebreaker cards, regular versions of those card are automatically unlocked upon purchase and you can find premium versions in game in hidden chests. Regular versions can be crafted in game, but cost 4x than normal but premium versions are exclusive for TB owners. There are also several borders and avatars and you can get ~60 reward points from TB related achievements that's roughly equivalent of 30 kegs).
It's basically the same steps as bbbmods modding guide but you'll have to make the image you want as a cardback the same resolution/size as the original cardback.
What I usually do is I just copy and paste the image onto one of the cardback images and resize it in Photoshop or Pixlr until it looks okay.
Then once you've done that, you have to edit the file of the cardback you want replaced in UABE.
Then you load your image, you set the quality to slow(multithread),you save it, then press ok, then save it again and put your new file in the folder before the original file.
Now you have to close UABE(And Gwent if you had it open), then rename your new file to the same name as the old file and then replace the original file with the new file.
Now finally open Gwent and now the cardback should have your image on it.
If I wasn't clear enough or something's not working, feel free to ask for help
The app has been around since the closed beta days. It has been through several rewrites as Gwent has evolved, and I've probably put in somewhere between 150-200 hours overall.
This feature in particular was an idea I had last Friday afternoon, and I built it out over the weekend.
There is no "free" VPN. Any VPN that claims to be providing services without pay sells your data to third parties in one form or another. That'show they pay for the servers.
I would recommend ExpressVPN as I found it to be the most (although not 100%) reliable and stable in China.
Hi,
If you have an Android device, you can check out my app called Roach.
It supports every language that Gwent supports, so you are able to search for cards in Polish :) When you download the app it should default to your language, but if it doesn't there is an option in the settings to change it.
Enjoy :)
I wish more games publicly posted their development roadmap to allow us more insight into the development process. Hell some games don't even put changes in the patchnotes, cough cough Hearthstone.
Tooth and Tail is an example of a game that has a public roadmap and allows the consumer to provide feedback and make suggestions on planned changes. https://trello.com/b/N8EzNonZ/tooth-and-tail-roadmap

(Slightly out of date) Screenshots, and beta download.
This is probably in relation to Dota2 players spamming the car manufacturing company Volvo subreddit with complaints about the game back a few years ago. It got upvoted to the frontpage with about 3k votes (back when that was counting for something on reddit). Valve forgot to release a new game mode at the scheduled time on halloween.
Here's the original threat! https://www.reddit.com/r/Volvo/comments/1pp74t/wtf_volvo_why_no_diretide/ (it got about 50 times more upvotes than normal posts on that sub at the time).

4 Mbps is what it takes to stream 720p HD video without delays. It is more than enough for any digital TCG. I manually set what each program can use for a reason. Otherwise some game updaters steal my bandwidth because they use torrent styled updater and use my bandwidth to save their own.
Edit: If you need proof of that Skype does it, and several MMO's do it, even Windows 10 has Microsoft doing it by default: https://lifehacker.com/windows-10-uses-your-bandwidth-to-distribute-updates-d-1721091469
Just returned from a vacation (without internet), so sorry for the late reply.
Did you get it running in the meantime? Did you run everything as an administrator? I have the weird problem myself that GwentUp requires Admin permission. Thus I've worked a run around by calling batch files within AutoHotkey scripts and more batch files. It does the trick but ain't pretty.
cd C:\Program Files (x86)\GOG Galaxy\Games\GwentUp start GwentUp.exe
This should work and start GwentUp (obviously you might need to adjust the path). It should prompt you for Admin permissions every time. You can try and delete "start" and it might work that way. Otherwise AutoHotkey can Run programs as well and that might work for you instead.
Run, Gwent/Gwent.exe
is the AutoHotkey line that could work (relative paths are good to go here!). All these things are not pretty though if you need to mix and match like I had to. But at least they work properly now for me.
Don't forget to update your game via GOG though, otherwise matchmaking won't work (I just had this problem).
~70€ ... i saw it for 60€ but the official price is 79€.
You could first try VirtualBox ... it is a free virtual machine for macOsx https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads .
I do not have any experience with Virtual Box.
Parallels works perfect for me (I have version 9 ... current version is 13). There is also a free trial for Parallels.
> AHK is a real deal.
Yep! It's very powerful, but I use it mostly for switching between apps.
> I'd love to learn more about it.
Check out tutorial or /r/AutoHotkey .
Or PM me, if you need something specific.
> but you can't do the same with keyboard only
You can with Autohotkey.
Create gwent.ahk, add these lines:
#IfWinActive, ahk_exe gwent.exe r::RButton ; or whatever key you want instead of 'r' #IfWinActive
and add it to autoload.
First, you'd need to have a GPU that supports Vulkan (and install the needed packages if they're not). So, what do you have exactly?
Then, you'll have to install Wine, preferably from the WineHQ repo.
Then you'll have to install GOG Galaxy through Wine. It might need some tweaks, though I'm not sure they're still needed. You can also look at Lutris, it's a software with a GUI that makes installing and managing Windows apps/games through Wine more easily; it might have a script for Galaxy.
Once, Galaxy is installed, you'll run it like on Windows and install the game. Unfortunately, an update of Galaxy a few monthes ago broke the possibility to run games from it (using the Play button) with Wine. You'll have to run Gwent manually once Galaxy is running, I'll explain that later.
First things first: your GPU model.
try installing the 2015 x64 version from http://www.softpedia.com/get/Programming/Components-Libraries/Microsoft-Visual-C-Redistributable-Package.shtml
not sure, if this site is safe, so use at your own risk!
EA also thought that if players had to "earn" characters/rewards that players would appreciate it more. They were sadly mistaken. Players don't want to put up with that BS anymore. Maybe that's what's holding Gwent back?
I have the same problem. I tried several time to repair gwent or reinstall it via gog galaxy without any success. I also uninstall gog galaxy, and now, I can't install it back. During the download, a popup appears which says that "connection to gog.com is impossible. Please check your internet connection".
But my internet connection is just fine, I can access anything else...
The price hasn't changed, it's still 9.99$. I buy through GOG.com and I set my prices to USD instead of EUR since it's cheaper for me to convert my currency to USD than EUR and buy it that way. See what other currencies GOG.com offers you and buy through there.
Alternatively you can hide behind a VPN to change the currency that would better suite you if you can't choose USD or something else in Brasil.
~~I bought the premium journey bundle via~~ ~~gog.com~~~~, and haven't received it in game. I can only play via iPad / Phone or Steam tho, as I don't use Windows. Am I getting blown out for being too edgy here?~~
I am dumb and it just appeared delayed. So you can buy directly via gog.com and receive the journey on your mobile and Linux client, if anyone was wondering.
I thought I was the only one! I can't log in to the GoG Galaxy app on desktop and I can't connect to Gwent on Android via Wi-Fi, it seems to only run when on data and even then the connection is spotty. Also, I keep getting errors when trying to view the decks on Gwent's site and / or the pages are loading PAINFULLY slow. Although I can log in to GOG.com, everything related to Gwent and Galaxy (even the app download page) seems to not be working. I too am on EU but I hear the problem is even worse in Australia and they only way to bypass it was by using a VPN which probably means that certain GoG servers must be wonky. My problems started Friday afternoon.
The best way would be to contact GOG support anyway but if you know your username and give them the addresses you might have used, that'll be easier to explain them that you probably mispelled it.
If you try to login on playgwent.com or gog.com and try the option to change your password, you don't get an e-mail on one of your addresses? Warning: if it directly resets your password, it might log you out of Gwent on Steam, but in theory it should send you a link to reset the password rather than do it directly.
I think you can, either way, check this out, it converts any controller to a 360 controller. I used to have a Ps2 controller with an adapter and that program to play Dark Souls. Have fun!
Well it might never happen, but as far as i understand gwent had been working for a lot of people on wine (and still works for some of them) until eventually got broken during an update. I can get it up and running quite easily, but i have black screen instead of main menu. My point is most likely it's not very difficult to support linux version for example through https://lutris.net/games/gwent-the-witcher-card-game/ .
I had the same issue. It's to do with your current location (country) and the Google Play country profile. If they're not the same, you get this error. I am in Japan and the link CDPR sent me took me to the Japanese Google Play market, but my Google Play country profile was set to the UK, as I came from there. I went to https://pay.google.com and changed it so that all of my payment methods and addresses were ones from Japan, not the UK. I deleted the UK details as they were out of date, I'm not sure if that's necessary though.
Hope this helps.
Cyberpunk 2077 is out, here's how to claim your Gwent's rewards. Note that rewards may take few hours/days to be added to your account as some servers may be a little bit overloaded.
I'd also recommend the followup article from several years later, Timmy, Johnny, and Spike Revisited. This article introduces the sub-archetypes within the original three psychographics. It describes a lot more players more accurately, especially the Spikes whose description I feel is a bit lacking in the original article.
Let me explain some things, since you're obviously confused.
This subreddit is related to the standalone Gwent, i.e., the game whose full name is Gwent: The Witcher Card Game. That's what the conetet should be directly related to.
The submission by the OP is from another game, namely The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Therefore, as it's a screenshot from another game, it is not directly related to the standalone Gwent, and as such does not belong here, as per the rule 2, specifying what the relevant content is.
I bought it from Steam and I believe you get all the same rewards as with buying it from GOG, as long as you link it to your GOG account that is associated with Gwent. You link it from within the game by clicking on the "Multiplayer" tab in the menu. Here's the link to the extras; you just need to link it with the account that is associated with your GOG account.

The story alone makes the $20 worth it

Edit: Misspelling and appending
Sorry but Gwent rewards are GOG exclusive. On Thronebreaker's website they say that Gwent rewards are for GOG only: https://thewitcher.com/en/thronebreaker-witchertales Also on Steam store it says nothing about Gwent rewards in bonus items section. And there is no way to connect Steam to GOG.
If you consider spending money on the game, beside starter pack I recommend looking into Thronebreaker its a single player RPG game in Witcher world with combat in form of Gwent battles. Its a standalone game but provides tons of rewards for your Gwent account(premium kegs, bunch of cards, lots of reward points from TB related achievements and some cosmetics). And its a great game on its own :)
As for you deck question, here is a fairly standard Woodland deck. Strong, straightforward and fairly cheap to build as it uses only 2 legendary cards(Nalfgar can be replaced with something like Alzur's Double Cross or Speartip: Asleep to make it even cheaper). You ready have two strong cards, Ozzrel and Ghoul from starting decks. Try to get bronzes form opening kegs and use you scraps to craft gold cards, starting with Old Speartip, Golyat, Alpha Werewolf, Crones.
Ironically i do believe there was a user compiled list that i saw before, i tried finding it to respond to this but this is the closest i could find.
https://hastebin.com/juquzoxeri.xml
Which appears to be outdated, and isn't anywhere near as easy to the spreadsheet I had seen before.
Latest Bluestacks version (Android emulator) is running Gwent happily boss, currently playing on my MBP.
I haven't tested on Nox yet - seems they are having some security issues with their latest version so I'm waiting for their dev team to clean that all up first.
One possibly cheaper option, though i haven't tried it yet - https://www.airsquirrels.com/reflector ; it however has a 7 days trial so maybe give it a shot?

Unless, of course, you're looking to play it natively rather than have a quick game during work breaks
Shadow is an online solution to "rent" a very performing PC. You can connect it from your PC, even an old one, regardless of the OS (Mac, Linux or Windows). It's also available from the app, on your smartphone. Very flexible, and performing. It worth the price !
> Just to confirm - you have NEVER played a match yet?
Aside from the tutorials, no.
> If you are on PC, disconnect your controller (not disable - disconnect) and reboot. Try with Mouse/Keyboard.
Will try out.
> Ensure you have a wired connection to your router
That sadly won't be possible; router is on the upper floor, I use a netgear extender, and use wifi to connect to the extender.
> are not running any network software (port scanners and the like) or other software that can close or monitor your ports.
I do run a program called NetWorx(https://www.softperfect.com/products/networx/) to monitor my usage to ensure that I do not use too much bandwidth. Maybe that's an issue.
> Disable your Antivirus/AntiMalware just to test (they shouldn't be the issue). Reboot your router.
Will try out.
> You got Radovid on your Tutorial Keg? Time to buy a lottery ticket.
Damn, is he really that rare? Wow I guess I'm pretty darn lucky haha.
It's due to the mobile version not signing into the GOG service, which frankly CDPR should fix ASAP somehow, period.
That said, there's a work-around. Open the game on mobile, then login via the website GOG.com.
I have the same issue. The board is working, but the skin doesn't work - displays the default.
Also, I purchased the avatar, border and poweder, but haven't received that... I've lodged tickets with GOG.com for both issues. Hopefully, a speedy fix, otherwise I'll expect a refund (fortunately purchased via PayPal, so I'll lodge a dispute with PayPal if necessary).
check that out that only GOG.com is the problem, I can do anything but log in GOG. Only wish they could let me finish the game when GOG disconnect. I mean the condition is absurd when you off the GOG, your game shut down directly while there is no problem with the game server.
Why would it not be cool? Gwent has no regional pricing, so it doesn't matter where you buy things from.
It is possible. I use a VPN quite often, and I've never had any problems with Gwent or any other GOG.com related transaction.

The problem is that the KB2999226 (Universal CRT) which is part of the Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio 2015 failed to install. So you need to install that again through either windows updates or by installing it yourself. Check out the link I posted.
Hi guys!
As you know, leader abilities and leader models (with cards) will be separate. In the next season the fact that you see incoming Eredin on the board doesn’t mean that you will play against Carapace Ability. That’s why I would like to share you my image with all leader abilities right now. I hope it will be helpful. Don’t worry, after possible changes in abilities with Iron Judgment release, I will update this file. I was wondering if post this now or after expansion, and finally I decided to do it now, because we can “learn” icons and names even during this season and be better preparated for future battles. Here is also a link for tiff file and imgur jpeg.
Only if you are rich buy this, otherwise do as others said of the Shupe plush.

I tell ya man, it is really worth it!

You can check it yourself here from your phone. If you don't have any red message saying that "This device is not supported" somewhere around the "add to wishlist" line then that means that your phone supports it.

I did, but I do not have an Android device. Is there a way to unlock it on Windows 10?
