If you have ever used an iOS device, it allows any app that has unread notifications to have a badge on the lower left corner of the app icon showing you how many of these you have. AFAIK it only works with Nova Launcher.

So long as you have Nova Launcher, you really should get the Tesla Unread thing to go with it. This will put unread badges on any and all apps you'd like.
Yes, you need the add-on. Go to Nova Settings, tap "Unread count badges", turn them on (if you don't have the addon, it'll take you to install it).
It's an addon that allows unread "badges" to be shown on your icons (imagine iOS email or text message icons that show you how many unread messages there are).
Check out their pictures and you'll see the number bubbles on each icon: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.teslacoilsw.notifier&hl=en.
You can also customize the style, colors, etc. Definitely an awesome addon!
Take a look at this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.teslacoilsw.notifier
This is a part of Nova. Install and enable as applicable. I think your problem may resolve itself. Cheers!
I'm using TeslaUnread for that. It is not a standalone app and works with Nova Launcher.
Does not require root.
Yes it's possible, I think you need the pro version of nova though. You'll want to install this. In nova settings there's a thing called unread count badges that you can enable.
If he's using Nova Launcher, then TeslaUnread for Nova Launcher is the go-to extension for headsup notification counting.
I think there's an extension for Nova Launcher? Yeah, there https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.teslacoilsw.notifier&hl=en
Other launchers may come with that preinstalled.
The stock google one doesn't have that, but it's really not too hard to get.
not to be mean, but you could easily google this you know?

Edit: I've got a nagging feeling better his needs Nova Launcher to work. But that's not a bad thing. Much more customisations with Nova
As other said https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.teslacoilsw.notifier&hl=en_US
Thats to use numbers

TeslaUnread and Sesame Shortcuts are excellent addons for Nova Launcher.
Tesla Unread for Nova Launcher. Gives you numbers on your badges and with integration in the Nova settings. With all the usual custom options for color, opacity, design etc. :) https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.teslacoilsw.notifier
I originally bought Nova Prime so I could use TeslaUnread with it. Beyond that I just like to know I supported the developer.
I know this is an older thread, but have you tried TeslaUnread? It's an unread badge counter for Nova launcher that should work with all of your installed apps. You can find it here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.teslacoilsw.notifier
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.teslacoilsw.notifier
This app, it's actually called TeslaUnread. Its a modular add-on to Nova Launcher. In Nova you can configure it to look like the stock launcher with any tweaks you prefer. I download a slick icon pack as well. Download TeslaUnread and check off the apps you want it to apply to. Then in Nova's settings you can configure how the badges look.
> Btw, I'm using Justin.
Sorry, what is Justin?
Also if you have Nova Prime, TeslaUnread does exactly what you described.
I use nova launcher which is compatible with this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.teslacoilsw.notifier&hl=en
I think it requires nova to work though, so if you don't have nova you'll have to find another option.
I was even stupid enough to email the developer yesterday, as follows:
"Hi,
First: If you have a public forum you would rather me post this to, please advise. Here's my problem:
I had previously customized my Moto G4+ home screen to show 5 rows x 5 columns (not including the Dock Bar at the bottom). This morning a realized I was missing icons and notice I only have a 4 x 4 home screen. In Apex settings it still shows I have it set for 5 x 5. If I change it to say 6 x 6, the only thing that happens is the icons get smaller and it still stays at a 4 x 4 grid on the home screen.
Btw, I have maybe 10 custom folders in the home screen and a second screen that would take time to recreate. I also found your backup function so I backed up the current state so I wouldn't lose my custom folders. I also took screen shots of these and the home an 2nd screen too. Next I change to Google Launcher, reboot, and then I uninstalled Apex. I reinstall Apex and now the change from 4 x 4 to 5 x 5 works as expected, however I have lost all my icons and custom folders. So I try the Apex restore function, it runs ok but it just reintroduces the problem of only showing 4 x 4, when I have 5 x 5 selected. The custom folders are recreated thankfully.
Is there any way to get the 5 x 5 layout to work with out having to reinstall Apex and recreate everything?
Thanks . . ."
This morning two more associates asked me what was up with their android phones. When they had the exact same symptoms that caused me to loose 2 hours of work yesterday, I found this thread and pulled the plug on Apex and went NOVA.
Investors and Developers: This is a perfect example of how not to introduce monetization into a product. If I would have been given advance notice and the option to retain the functionality and customizations I so carefully created, I would have paid a reasonable price. In fact, I almost always get the paid version of all apps I use just to support the developers. Now, I was so upset at this little maneuver of inexperience and incompetence, that I have pulled the plug on this product. May it R.I.P..
Regards . . .
P.S. The "NOVA Launcher Prime" license key is available for only $4.99 in the Play Store. It's also eligible for the Family Library! Fyi, I have absolutely no financial or other connections to the TeslaCoil Software company. I am pasting the following below from the Play Store under the Fair Use Doctrine:" Nova Launcher PrimeUnlock the following extras by purchasing Nova Launcher Prime• Gestures - Swipe, pinch, double tap and more on the home screen to open your favorite apps• Unread Counts - Never miss a message. Old AHX KLWP presets. You can get them from here. Do check out their play store page for the updated stuff.
TeslaUnread for unread messages count.
Android can do it, but like most things android it requires third party support. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.teslacoilsw.notifier&hl=en
TeslaUnread https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.teslacoilsw.notifier
Requires Nova Prime launcher https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.teslacoilsw.launcher.prime
Are you using TeslaUnread?
Screenshot with one folder opened
I use Nova launcher prime. With their TeslaUnread for Nova Launcher. I have a Galaxy S5 so I assigned my home key to use TeslaLED Flashlight. The weather widget is Weather Timeline. And I also use the Muzei Live Wallpaper which I have set up to set a random painting every night. Almost forgot Moonshine icon.
I don't know what Notifyer is, but I use TeslaUnread Notifier with Nova Launcher Prime.
It shows a number of unread notofications over app icons
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.teslacoilsw.notifier&hl=pl
It requires TelsaUnread, which is now under the umbrella of Nova but used to be separate.
Also, they are called badges. You can get the same functionality out of Nova Launcher with the TeslaUnread Plugin.
Try Nova Launcher with Tesla Unread. Works great. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.teslacoilsw.notifier

Not sure if you use iOS or Android but you can do something like that on Android.
It comes out looking like this using TeslaUnread with Nova Launcher. It's not "Officially supported" but its easy to manually enable with a few clicks in the settings.
you need to install this:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.teslacoilsw.notifier
You need to install this.
This is what I normally do.
Desktop: Desktop Grind 5*4 Icon Layout: I turn size to 120% cause I changed my DPI and I want bigger icons. Lock Desktop
App and Widget Drawer Grid Size 6*5 Icon Layout: size 120% App drawer style: Vertical (cause I'm a normal human being) Turn off card background Enable Tab Bar
Then Drawer Groups, I basically create 3 drawers, Social, Games and Misc and then organize my apps, also you can hide your apps!.
You can swipe down when your scrolling your app drawer, it'll bring a search bar, type an app name if you have it, it'll launch it, if you don't you can instantly look for it on the play store!
Dock Number of icons to 7 Size to 120%
Look and Feel Set your icon theme I change my scroll speed to faster than light cause I don't care about animations Set my notification bar to transparent and Search as overlay on
Install Tesla Unread Also enable Unread count badges and installand it display well.. thenumber of notifications unread on my whatsapp, facebook, messenger...
Also Nova allows you to set actions when you swipe an icon, don't know if it's a feature elsewhere but I love it, just click and hold and icon, go to edit and voila. I have set my messenger swipe to open whatsapp so I don't have both icons on my dock, my dialer swipe action is to open the calculator.
Hope you get a hold of nova cause it's quite the beast.
My setup.
