The gifs are on a timer, and a double press *tap can also be used to change the image. I am not finding any significant battery life drainage as I hardly spend time on the homescreeen as it is.

Android Users:

I highly recommend this app. You can use this gif as your wallpaper. No it has not impacted my battery life in any meaningful way. I have a ton of cinemagraph wallpapers now.

It's actually AnimGif Live 2... I use it too. But with this gif.

I just looked into it and tried this and you can use it. I messed with the settings and slowed it down a bit for effect and it is working great. Someone just needs to improve the size of the cinemagraph to be more vertical than horizontal and it will look great I bet.

I want to also recommend AnimGIF. With this you can also select multiple gifs or an entire folder to rotate through every few minutes/hours/whatever you want (if you want, I can share my folder of animated pixel art). It also gives you a few image fitting modes which it will apply automatically.

Yep there is for Android , all you gotta is download this app and OP's gif, and then simply set the downloaded gif as a wallpaper and adjust the gif to fit your screen. The free version works fine, and it barely uses any battery on my part.

Aight, I saw in the last thread that people might also want this on Android, so heres how to do it all from your phone.

Download AnimGIF live wallpaper

This lets you use any gif as a live wallpaper.

Now, for some reason, Imgur is super shitty and won't let you download gifs directly from their mobile site, you have to use their crummy app. Now on the last one, even using the app it wouldn't download as a gif, it downloaded as an mp4 video file.

You'll have to convert this to a gif, i used this website, EzGif.com.

Now that you have your gif ready, open AnimGIF, and set it as your live wallpaper. Then go into the settings/edit menu for it, and you should be able to select your gif there.

I used to use this one, /u/mrkitty27. Can't speak for what it's like now but it always did the job before.

EDIT - for the OP gif, I think it might be a bit low res once blown up to full screen height. Worth a try though.

If you have iOS, I don't think you can do it.

But, if you have Android then you can just download this app to do it.

There's an app in the Play Store that makes it pretty easy. Free version has a small watermark. But meh.

I can only speak for android as I've never had an iphone, but I use an app called AnimGif . Just download the gif and set it as the wallpaper.

I don't think it is possible with ifttt, since they're gifs but it is possible with AnimGIF. Although it is very finicky. You'd have to choose your too gifs, set the interval to 12 hours, activate double tap, wait for a cycle to start, double tap the screen if until the wallpaper for the current cycle starts and deactivate double tap.

Animgif I saw it in another comment somewhere looking for wallapers, theres an option on there to make it fit to screen instead of the default fit best which makes it more zoomed in on the centre, at least on my phone. Youd have to try out which one would be better on your phone

Looks like you can set up a slideshow in Google Photos anyway. That /might/ work and for considerably less effort than setting up a webserver with all this stuff on (that I might do anyway as I already have the server and would want a bit more control).

Give that free version a go and see if it'll work for you. Download all your gifs/mp4's to a folder, point that to it, and it'll cycle through them all on the backdrop. Use a custom launcher and have a 'blank' page so you get to see them all, but you'd still be able to (if you want) launch apps over the top of it. Set 'don't turn off if charging' in settings. And that might do it crazy cheap/easy.

You can use a gif! There's a few live wallpaper apps that can use gifs you've downloaded to your phone. I've used AnimGif in the past

Its supposed to work for the lock screen too, but I couldn't figure it out. If anyone knows let me know.

And I used Anigif Live Wallpaper from the Play Store to run it

I considered making these into individual APKs but I didn't have enough time to compile before family shenanigans for the fourth. After thinking about it, running it using Anigif let's you shuffle them all in an allotted time (as well as which ones you do & don't want) instead of one by one in sequential order.

For the sake of your SD Card / on board memory, this is best option.

You could make an entire screen-sized GIF that only had that part animated, then use the GIF as a wallpaper on your lockscreen.

For android you could download AnimGif LWP 2 and use a gif from /r/Cinemagraphs like this one. The hard part though is finding a background color to go with the gif since the gif will most likely not take up the whole screen. Also you can buy the pro version of the app to remove the water mark.

Depends on what kind of phone you have. I can only speak for android, but since these are all .gif images android will keep saving it as a .png file, and the result will be a static image on your phone. In order to save it as it's native format (gif) you would have to use an app, like AnimGIF (Just a note, I've never used this app so good luck).

That's doable, actually. I'd use ezgif to crop it to the right ratio, then probably AnimGif (paid, unfortunately, not sure if there's a free option) or some similar app to display it. I'm always collecting perfectly looped gifs or videos that can be converted to gifs for use on my phone, they make great wallpapers. Also, incidentally, there's a little application that just displays the above fullscreen when you run it. I use it at work whenever I go on a break from my computer.
