I feel like this one should at least be in the conversation.
I didn't realize it was possible to give up 700 yards in a game. Case Keenum never managed that, and he dropped over 70 points on us twice. WKU only managed 650 on us in the season opener. This is uncharted territory now.
It's like breaking the sound barrier for the first time. No one is quite sure what will happen, but we're pretty sure God didn't intend for mankind to do this, and even our most optimistic scientists think it might end with me bleeding from my eyes and ears.
Urban Meyer was forced to do house chores. Does that make it better?
Shout out to the great journalism at ESPN!
The most popular S&C book when I was growing up was written by the guys at Nebraska. They may have been doing HGH but so was every other program. I actually do believe they were one of the few with a science behind what they were doing.
Here is the book.

Sorry, I got Missouri's record wrong, it's 2-5, pls don't hurt me.
In another interesting twist, ESPN's FPI thing gives Missouri a 74.1% chance to beat Kentucky.
So, I don't know if no one believes in Kentucky, or we are just really bad and we haven't figured that out yet...
@RedditCFB was also featured on the Paul Finebaum show when 247 Sports named it one of the Top 10 CFB Twitter accounts on Monday. ESPN also named it one of the 20 "Must-Follow" CFB accounts in April.
I think if {Iowa State} comes out and plays like they did against West Virginia, they'll have a shot at winning this. Also, I would not be surprised if Matt Campbell pulls third-string QB Re-Al Mitchell out of his hat and unleashes him on the Longhorns. Should be a good game.
#DownWithLonghornNetwork
Extremely Late Edit: Here is a link to a stream of 100.3 FM, which in the Ames/Des Moines area is the radio station that broadcasts Iowa State football games. Obviously listening to a game is not the same as watching it, but if you want, you can do what I do for when I'm watching an Iowa State game on the computer, is mute the volume on the stream (be it Hulu or something from /r/CFBStreams), and then listen to the radio because 9.99/10 times Iowa State's radio announcers are way better than most of those talking heads on the national, or other extremely local^^Seriously, ^^Screw ^^LGHN networks. The only downside to this approach is that the radio is almost always 1 - 2 plays ahead of the stream/broadcast, so that can be kinda awkward but it's usually worth it.
Clemson could have had Bear Bryant as our head coach. From our legendary coach Frank Howard:
> When I became the head coach at Clemson in 1940, Bear was still an assistant at Vanderbilt. This was before he even went into the Navy. He called me up wanting a job as one of my assistants here at Clemson. But I tell people that not hiring Bear was one of the smartest things I ever did. If I had, within six months he'd have cut my throat, drank my blood, and had my job.

It is a movie - but it’s 30 for 30 style documentary and does not have a big Hollywood budget.
IIRC, there was some interest immediately after the game but Boise State was pretty insistent that they get a pretty big say in storyline/the programs portrayal and all the big-boys lost interest.
Realistically a “football only” movie just doesn’t really sell. You gotta have some type of human interest drama behind it and who knows what Hollywood would have shoehorned in.
They're paying the school rent, which will go towards the 100 million dollars or so in renovations that we're required to make to the stadium

The atrocities of Urban Myer! He has the most convoluted, perplexing plays on offense and yet has petrifying, abhorrent, and abysmal defense!
Further description on the book's amazon page:
>In Playing Hurt, a leading figure in the sports world—the quintessential “man's man,” who seems to have it all—confesses his constant battle with depression and how it nearly cost him his life. John Saunders—stellar athlete and respected sportscaster—welcomes readers into the heart of his desperate struggle against depression: from insights into the illness's root causes to the nature of modern treatments, from both a medical and cultural perspective. His story unfolds as so many of our lives do—among family, friends, and colleagues—but it also peers into places we don't often discuss openly—psych wards and hospitals. Here is the honest story of a public figure facing his own mental illness head on, and emerging far better off for his effort.

It happened in the first quarter and they were already down 7.
They didn't even manage to score until the second half when Oklahoma had a 26 point lead. Kansas State also lost 29 yards on this drive, which I assume includes the safety, but still, that's an absurd amount of yards to lose in 4 plays.
The high in Houston was 71. It was still in the 60s during the first half.

Now you have a player in an arctic jacket trying to patrol the sidelines while bench warmers are wearing short sleeves in the off chance they are needed for action. Even when temps drop well below freezing coaches tend to wear relatively normal clothing so that it looks like they are with the players. An injured player in a parka in 60 degree weather with a minor injury doesn't tell the team the right message.

5) Collect karma.

It does, but don't get overwhelmed.
Remember to take it in bite size pieces - don't worry about retirement right away. Work from the ground up - make sure to get your bills paid and limit extra expenses. Save what you can month to month. If you aren't there, take steps to fix that in the next few months. Once you are done with that, try to not spend more money, keep enough of a rainy day fund in case bad things happen. If your employer offers a 401(k), always buy in and max out to the company match if they offer that as well. Not all will. Opt in for pension funds (rarer today) if available. Not all are available.
Avoid new cars like the devil. You don't need the new note to pay down and you don't need to try to cover the immediate loss in value.
I subscribe to Dave Ramsay's Total Money Makeover and will buy you a copy if you want, PM me.
Credit card and other debt? Setup to pay all minimum amounts up front. Whatever you have after mortgage/bills/utilities/rent, place onto the smallest debt you have - the idea is to pay down the smallest debt you have as fast as possible. Once that is done, you roll up to the next biggest debt with the previous payment plus that extra. This creates a snowball effect that helps you to assess and prioritize your debt, tackle it in an easy to understand way and keeps you looking at the big picture without getting overwhelmed. Before long, you have removed multiple debts and are making big gains on each successive one above. Snowball = progress and motivation to keep going. You tend to not get bogged down with feelings of trepidation, fear or inability to get it done.

If you save and invest wisely it shouldn't be hard to do. The median wage for librarians is $56k. He was a librarian for 50 years so I bet he was making more than that. UNH is also a public institution so he also probably had a healthy retirement fund provided from the state.

Would it blow your mind if, by at least one metric, Colorado was actually ranked higher than Clemson?
> This time, however, Texas was aware of the situation and Dylan Haines picked up the loose ball in the end zone, which should have resulted in a touchback for the Longhorns, thus giving Texas an opportunity to tie the game late in the fourth quarter.
It's pretty clear Haines himself was NOT aware that it was a live ball. He handed the ball directly to the ref which would in fact not be a touchback but rather a fumble. In order for that to have been a touchback Haines would have had to take a knee. This is exactly the reason for the "immediate recovery" rule. All players believed the ball to be dead and Haines picking the ball up was completely incidental.

Ummm, ever wonder why we call y'all snitches?
Phil Ratted us out to the NCAA about the albert means scandal, despite Tennessee actively recruiting him as well. When he didn't get him, he "assisted" the NCAA on finding proof that we paid someone to get Albert Means.
He's a fat salty fuck, that we hate with a passion. The fact that he beat us so many years in a row just made it worse. Until Saban came along.
Also, I think we found Nick Saban's weakness!
> "It sort of screwed me up," said Dolphins coach Nick Saban, who needed a timeout to get things straight. "I couldn't figure out what was going on. They had a quarterback in, four tight ends and a receiver and there was no kicker."

Fun fact the Air Raid offense was named at Valdosta Sate. There's a fraternity house near the stadium (which we share with the highschool team, TYVM) and one of the brothers got an air horn from his dad or something. Anyway they blasted it every time the Blazers got a touchdown. This was during Mike Leach's tenure at Valdosta State. Anyway, they named it the Air Raid Offense and there ya go...

Depends, LSU's manual (pg 23) states that they can work but it would depend on how much they made in comparison to other people at the market selling jelly. It's one of those things that is probably more of a headache than what it's worth.
What really bothers me about the student athlete rules is that it's the complete opposite of academic rules. Imagine telling a journalism major that they aren't allowed to write a blog or submit articles for publication or a computer science major that they can't create a website or app or face losing their scholarship.
Virginia Tech
It's one of those games that really should be more of a thing, considering how close the two schools are together.
Although, if we're talking about opponents we play on a semi-regular basis, UCLA comes to mind. Wouldn't mind a trip out west every other year. There's even a bit of bad blood if you go back far enough.
I'd highly recommend Kevin Roose's book The Unlikely Disciple for a fascinating, concise glimpse into Liberty's culture. He was then a Brown University student (ie extremely open-minded "liberal") who did a semester at Liberty out of morbid curiosity. It's a super quick read too!
Edit: I seem to have created a downvote-enemy in this thread. Still cannot recommend the book enough! In the words of LaVar Burton: Don't take my word for it!
Oh he's "ACC is AWESOME" drunk. Nice.
And to answer your riddle, no.
The distribution of money specifically from the CFP is actually really simple It also was never negotiated by the conferences on a conference by conference basis.
Essentially the more teams the ACC gets in the more money they get.
Perhaps you're thinking juts a general TV contract all together?
One of my old professors specialized in media law, particularly social media and the law. I've never seen him be this giddy about an upcoming case decision before. As far as he knows (and he wrote the first-known textbook on it), this is the first time we're seeing a significant lawsuit related to intellectual property over followers on social media.
As much right as the paper has to the followers pre-Andy taking over, there's a strong argument that the followers who signed up past 2011 weren't following a company (in this case, the paper) - they were following Andy Bitter himself. The decision between personal brand vs. corporate ownership over social media IP is going to be a fascinating one for the court to untangle.
>Would the Big12 stand by its founding member through the thick of it? And wait for the Bears to right themselves and get back on their feet though it would leave the league with only 9 active members in its favorite and highest grossing sport.
This is the most likely scenario. The big 10 may have discused kicking Penn St out but nothing ever came of it.
>The Big12 keeps Baylor, but finds itself once again exploring expansion. Inviting two teams to fill the void and keep everyone together as best they can after a rough falling out.
Expansion is dead and isn't coming back. If the Media Partners aren't on board, it's dead.
>The Big12 seeks to drop the troubled program from the league in football or entirely. Then proceeding to add a single promising replacement expansion candidate such as BYU.
It is. Auburn is located in the state of Alabama and they play each other every year. It does get a little heated. One guy poisoned special trees. One woman shot a family member that was not upset enough about a loss.
There was a special on it called Roll Tide War Eagle but I don't know if you can watch it in the UK.
Sounds like they want to prevent teams from doing things like this in California. These types of trips would be huge incentives for B1G teams or even Big 12 teams. It's basically a way for the team paying for them to have spring break, and based on this article it definitely was a positive experience for the players.
http://www.espn.com/blog/ncfnation/post/_/id/126086/michigan-players-embrace-spring-trip-to-florida
I don't see anything wrong with these trips, a lot of the time the kids have to practice during Spring Break anyways so it's nice that they can get a bit of a mixture. NCAA taking their cues from the No Fun League on this one.
His superior, Gary Schultz, oversaw the police department that had jurisdiction. The NCAA has since released guidelines for reporting sexual assault that mirrors pretty much exactly what Paterno did.
Edit: for clarification, the hit was after the play
How about "Squib Kick it to a Fat Guy" and 699 more memorable quotes from the playbook of Coach Mike Leach.
Definitely not as 'deep' of a read as some of the others, but this stays true to my mantra that Mike Leach is the answer to most questions.
You mean this QB?
By the way, we beat them 59-0. The first guy was saying that we should beat them by one fewer point; the 2nd guy recommended being nicer by beating them by 3 fewer points. That Alabama education, though.
Where did you get that version of history from?
I distinctly remember him coaching that C-USA championship game and laughing at the fact that the reason A&M fired Sherman so fast was getting his ass kicked by Southern Miss.

down votes? really? the guy just made that part up about him taking the A&M job before the C-USA championship game
This way predates /r/CFB. According to the website the guys thought it up in the 1980s. Check the Internet Archive for the site: the earliest versions are from 2007 whereas /r/CFB was not created until September 2008.

For those interested in learning more about these helmets, here's an article from Geekwire and a video.
The article also states that this helmet is being released to a limited number of other college teams, but I can't figure out who those teams are.
Note that before this season (his senior year) he was a TE, and had not accrued a single rushing attempt.
Edit: junior --> senior
The crazy thing ... he was successful on and off the field for us.
He took over for a team that just went 1-10, and he brought them straight to a bowl game in his first season as head coach. Not only did we go to a bowl game all 5 years he was the coach, but in 2001 we hit 11 wins for the first time in school history. He was also responsible for bringing Petrino to Louisville as OC, which lead to him becoming our head coach and winning the Orange Bowl in 2006.
John L even got us a victory over FSU in Tallahassee...

The kids didn't actually watch of the game but they loved the pre-game stuff. (VT has a family field next to the stadium with games, etc.) The marching band was a big hit.
Buy lots of hot dogs and other treats for them. I let my kids get something from the stadium store if they're good.
Sexual Battery in the state of Louisiana
"A. Sexual battery is the intentional engaging in any of the following acts with another person where the offender acts without the consent of the victim, or where the act is consensual but the other person, who is not the spouse of the offender, has not yet attained fifteen years of age and is at least three years younger than the offender: (1) The touching of the anus or genitals of the victim by the offender using any instrumentality or any part of the body of the offender; or (2) The touching of the anus or genitals of the offender by the victim using any instrumentality or any part of the body of the victim."
http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_is_the_definition_of_sexual_battery_in_Louisiana#ixzz1jVlOdbBa
Basically, it involves the man's genitals touching the other person without their consent.
I haven't used it, but I've heard good things for college football in general about Youtube TV.
According to their site, it's $40 a month for ESPN, 2, U, and News. As well as CBS Sports, NBC Sports, BTN (thanks /u/nick12945) and the FoxSports networks.

I mean, he did write the definitive bible for people who refuse to move on from the 90's/early 00's...
So while they aren't entirely his fault, I think you can lay a healthy amount of blame for the crazies at his door.

Since there are a couple other non podcast suggestions in this thread I'll toss mine in as well. The 50 Best College Football Teams of All Time by Bill Connelly is an easy and interesting read about some of the more notable teams of the past.
In 2012 Oklahoma State beat Savannah State 84-0, and probably could have tacked on another if they wanted.
The last time an FBS team gave up 90 points was New Mexico to Fresno State in 1991, 94-17. 2 years prior, 1-9 New Mexico got one of their only wins against 10-0 Fresno State to ruin a perfect season.
From a quick google search I found a source that sort of helps with the price estimation.
So around $400k total is my extremely rough estimate based on the input of /u/Honestly_
There's been a lot of research into AIs playing Starcraft with the same information a human would have. If you're interested in how this field is progressing, look up SSCAIT or CIG 2018.
This neural-net AI is so good, it can beat Starcraft's built-in "cheater" AI.
Oh, I don't know specifics, but most of it had to do with Alabama's basketball coach Wimp Sanderson. Here's an old newspaper article.
However, I do know of one good story. A high school basketball recruit was set to announce his choice between Alabama and UAB. On the steps of his front porch, he proudly announces to the reporter that he would be going to UAB to play basketball for Gene Bartow. Immediately, his mother storms out the front door and starts swatting her son telling him he'd better take that back because he's going to Alabama, and she doesn't want to return her new car.
Also, Charles Barkley has a similar story on how he was swayed from UAB.
Football at Wrigley was a mess
Fenway has had a few games (most recently Nov 2015, BC - ND)
Michigan fan here - sorry but you're garbage. Trust me - I witnessed App State in person, and App State in 2007 was 10x better than South Alabama. Sorry bud but that's how it works - lose to a shit school and no one lets you live it down for going on 10 years now. Same shit with "lol 42-13" comments about the Ohio State game last year.. it is what it is man.

My favorite would be Justyn Ross’ one handed catch in the NCG. That catch……just unreal. Here’s a poster of it on Amazon.
Jokes aside....one of the cool things in the book The Perfect Pass (about the Mumme/Air Raid/stuff about Walsh/Davis/Leach/LaVell Edwards/basically the spread/etc) was how especially in the early days of the spread em out schemes....a bunch of these teams would have a total of like 5 plays
And opponents knew what they were....but couldn’t stop them anyway.
Really enjoyable book. Would recommend.

I feel like you are just factually incorrect here (either lying or just not used to florida). It was not 90+. At kickoff it was 77 degrees
humidity was probably 80-90% due do the wet weather. I was actually pretty chilly in the first quarter in the stands...
Technically he didn't go to federal prison over the couch. The couch started the federal investigation.
He went to prison because he was charging the state for his trips to the Greenbrier where he sold his book about judicial corruption in the state of West Virginia to lobbyists, who were hoping he would rule in their favor and upcoming judicial cases. And he sold his books to these lobbyists by the box, I guess they were worried they might spill coffee on one copy so they wanted 29 extra just to be safe.
I swear to God that's what his book is about. https://www.amazon.com/Dont-Another-Vote-Wont-Landslide/dp/0870127489

Edit: I think everyone was losing their minds over it too. As always, it worked itself out and Alabama won a Natty for their much maligned program cries internally
It definitely can look that way.
However, Crawford has really seemed to be the only one doing her damn job through this whole shitshow. Also, an audio recording was released of her saying how our Board of Regents have gone overboard by calling her in the middle of the night and weekends demanding names of students with open Title 9 files. There are rumors that this is the reason that at least on player has been kicked off the team without due process. She seems to feel that the BOR has overstepped their bounds and were even interfering with T9 wanting to kick anyone with with the slightest infraction out.
Furniture stores have done it a lot recently. Here's an article about one instance. In that case, the insurance company ended up paying 85% of the cost.
Well the decision to suspend him was announced in August 2014 and the decision by the court to not release the video wasn't made until April 2015 (Bottom of Page 9), Boren and Stoops had no idea if the video would become public when they made the decision.
That probably makes him as good as most of our current WRs. Young is likely to replace Isaiah Renfero, who retired this summer due to depression and is a pretty similar prospect.
Having broken my collarbone I can tell you that you'd never notice what you have to wear. Its like a brace you wear under your shirt that holds your shoulders back.
Well is there video of it somewhere? I tried looking earlier in the week, but found nothing. It is pretty anti-climatic since CSU still fell short, but it's really anti-climatic with no video to see it happen
Edit: It was on ESPN 2, so you can watch the replay on WatchESPN. First score is at 5:00 in the fourth quarter, so around 02:13:05 video timecode
You should read Sherman's Wikiquote page. I especially like his letter to the City of Atlanta and James Guthrie. I don't think anyone has ever told it like it is like Sherman did.
Which study would you like? The Encyclopedia of School Crime and Violence mentions the study referenced in the article as well as two others that suggest the number is actually in the 23-33% range. I'm actually surprised any of these studies even get completed, because the universities do everything in their power to make sure no one really knows how many assaults go on in their backyards. Can't really blame them for that, 'cause it would definitely be bad for business. Then again, due to their reluctance to share (and issues that are fairly unique to the investigation of sexual assault) there are lots of problems with the current methodology used to acquire and make sense of those statistics.
I have no idea whether the documentary in question is "slanted bullshit" or not. Do you think the police followed proper procedure in handling the Winston case?
None. It was the last game of the regular season and New England already had won the division and couldn't improve their playoff spot with a win over the Dolphins. The game was meaningless. That was the only reason Flutie was seeing the field in the first place. Brady sat the game out. Here's a recap of the kick.

> I was looking at vue, but don't have a ps4. So no multiscreen for me unfortunately.
Looking at the PS Vue FAQ (scroll way down to "How many devices can I stream PlayStation™Vue on at once?"), it looks like you can do one PS3, three of iOS/Android/web simultaneously, and no device-limit on FireTV/Apple TV/Roku. ...Within the 5 stream total limit, of course.
And yeah, if you want channels other than sports, sometimes cable makes more sense.
Well they probably had to drive it there and back, the national average was around $3 then, and about 8mpg is pretty common for RVs.
1100*2/8*3 = $825
Seems like a pretty accurate prediction. And if they traveled closer to the 1200 miles, took detours, sped, drove an rv with worse mileage than that or their cost of gas average slightly higher it wouldn't be to hard to hit $950.
Also the 1000 - 1200 mile estimate is low, especially if they're coming from the upper peninsula.
Leach's book Swing Your Sword is one of the most interesting and easy reads I've been through. It's $5 on the Kindle app (i.e. any phone), highly recommend. I promise it gets better after the weird childhood dog story, just stick with it. The X and O's come out near the end and are fascinating.
this comment brought to u by a guy who wishes he could go back in time and pick up football at a young age and try to be good at it and get a college scholarship to play for mike leach after reading his book. ive never even played football, but i'd run through a wall for this man if he told me to do it
Not so subtle Plagiarism warning:
Colorado is having a shocking 7-2 year after an awful 4-9 year last year. They're almost undefeated in the conference and in two weeks, will face currently 7-2 Washington State. This upcoming week both teams play Arizona and Cal (respectively), who are a combined 6-12. If both of them win, they'll be 8-2 and 8-2, both almost 6-0 in the PAC 12.
My question is, is there a good argument for College Gameday to make a stop in Boulder? They haven't been to their great school yet for the year, and this could be a great chance to give a great school like Colorado some good coverage.
Here's a list of the ranked teams playing November 19th, and there aren't really any major matchups. Only competition I see is Wyoming-San Diego State.
That was easy, just like all my college papers.
According to ESPN, Jake Bentley has a 75.6 raw QBR

You guys have absolutely nothing to worry about, Clemson has beaten BC 5 years in a row. I mean sure the average margin of victory @ BC between both teams over the last 5 years is 6.2 points and BC, improbably, has the number 3 defense in the country, but you guys are the best, nothing to worry about just worry about winning out and winning the CFP :)
