I think you just have to install watch maker, then the watch face. That's what I did for my Urbane. Watch maker says it works for Galaxy watches

Looks very nice. What tools are you using for rendering?
What's with the multiplications by zero? You can simplify a little if you remove those.
LaTeX is a much nicer way to share equations. Or, if you're sharing code explicitly, indent with four spaces for mono-space formatting, then people can select/copy it directly:
float x = 4 * pow ( cos(sin((1.0 + ...
Here's a zip containing all the frames of this animation in glorious 2048p RGBA. Take it and do whatever you want with it.
Some technical information:
The linked zip has around twice as many pixels spanning any given part of the animation, giving clearer edges, but only has 3/8 as many render samples per pixel. I'd suggest first cropping the animation to the desired area, and then scaling it down as much as possible to smooth out the noise (should all be possible in most video editors and some image editors).
There's a mobile game called hocus. that plays almost exactly like this. Super fun brain twister.
Here's the link to the Google Play store for it. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=air.com.gamebrain.hocus&hl=en
> Where does one start to learn about optimization?
Specially for ImageMagick, I recommend this and this.
> Is the input video only or will it take a .gif and optimize that?
It converts videos to GIFs. It could also read GIFs directly, but that will mess up the timing due to the way how FFMpeg handles GIFs, so I use VirtualDub to convert GIFs to AVI instead.
> How would one even use the script you provided?
That's where the problems start. I just added the link so the comment isn't completely obscure and useless. Just to check the file size, I did this:
makegif.pl -q 5 GSqXDdK.avi GSqXDdK_2.gif
And the problem is that you'll need a Perl environment, FFmpeg, Gifsicle and ImageMagick to run the script. From my experiences, most here don't even know how to use cmd.exe, so I skipped writing a tutorial on how to download and install every single of these programs and that explains the basics of the command line interface.

Hmm, would this be the trouble you were having getting the packages to work?

I've spent the last hour trying to fix this and what I learned is cairo is a pain in the ass.
Edit: Whew.. finally got it... Windows user's need to install this. I tried a bunch of crap before, but hopefully that didn't matter cause I don't remember everything.
I'd say that this an intermediately-skilled persons work with an incredible software.
All ways to do 3d simulations like these is going to have at least some difficulty accompanied with it. That level of difficulty varies greatly depending on what you're trying to do. I made this simulation in Blender which is a free and open-source all-in-one software. It can do modeling, simulation, animating, rendering and video editing. Blender has a somewhat large learning curve, but if you follow Blender Guru's tutorials you would be fine. If you want to know more about it, you can head over to r/Simulated and see what you can do, you could also post a question and people will most likely answer it.
It's done for the Nexus 4, and it isn't quite perfect at that. I'll play with it a bit more, but this is a working version of it.
It loads slowly, but when it gets done once it runs silky smooth (just like your average gif).
EDIT: Almost forgot INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
Rename the zip to "bootanimation.zip" and put it in your /system/media folder. Boom done.
Thanks for the this OP now i can trip out every time I unlock my phone.
For people who are thinking or asking how to set it up as live wallpaper
If you are on Android REDDIT APP:
Hopefully it doesn't get banned :( But yeah I love http://gfycat.com/ bots but they always seem to get banned....
By the way the bots are not ever made by the actual gfycat website people, all of them are made by fans or what ever.
Android boot animations are pretty straightforward actually, it's just the seperate frames saved as .PNG (I believe :JPG is fine too) in the appropriate resolution saved as a .zip file called bootanimation.zip.
Inside that zip must be at least one folder called part0 containing all the images numerically ordered (like 0000.PNG 0001.PNG and so on) and a file called desc.txt containing some simple information about the animation like the size and framerate.
There is a pretty good guide here, but for you the only important information would be that the frames need to be saved as seperate images.
I would just call this animation but some might refer to it as motion graphics or motion design. This animation was created with Adobe After Effects. I would say Adobe’s software is the best for designing/animating digital content. Heres a videos if you want to know more about this profession.

My first degree is in English, and my second degree is law - currently I'm a lawyer.
I like learning, however - like it a lot. A few years ago, I purchased <em>Cell and molecular biology</em> by Gerald Karp.
I worked my way through it slowly, chapter by chapter, and taught myself the rudiments of molecular biology.
My mind was blown at least once per chapter!

If you like the idea of being a space captain, I'd recommend this game.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q4imWvoqxmc
Has a nice modding scene as well, making for very high replay ability.
If you've already played the game, this super-mod might give it new life for you:
Posted here because of a suggestion from /r/upvotegifs. Here's a clock version as an animated SVG:
http://openclipart.org/people/gringer/clocky_clock_v3.svg
Colours cycle every hour. The text in the hour hand of the main clock is a date, so should have a 10,000 year cycle.
edit:
And a colour-changing version.
There is a point where the frames re-align, but that would require a massive 900 frame gif. You do not want a gif that large. So Instead I created a simpler ping-ponging gif. But to get a reasonable amount of movement I had to skip frames and reduce the frame rate. So it doesn't look very good :(
http://i.imgur.com/zmwYFhH.gifv
But there is some good news. I saved the much better 900 frame version as an avi file. Just have your video program play it on a loop.
Me too! You would cut the box thingy and there was balls flying around inside it and you had to not hit them when cutting
Edit: Found it!
so i tryed to also add it to my lock screen, i could not for the life of me find an app that does this without useing an entily new lock screen. i came up with a 2 part solution with https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.awesome.giflivewallpaper to make a live wall paper of the gif and then https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=alpha.set.lockscreen.livewallpaper to set that live wallpaper to my lock screen. with this i can change the lock screen to a gif while useing the default lock screen embebed in the os. only problem is as far as i can tell the home and lock screen wallpaper have to be the same.
Try Hocus (Google Play, I don't have a link for iOS), it's a similar concept to Monument Valley (though Monument Valley is much better)
I used to use this one, /u/mrkitty27. Can't speak for what it's like now but it always did the job before.
EDIT - for the OP gif, I think it might be a bit low res once blown up to full screen height. Worth a try though.

I remember setting animated gifs as my desktop wallpaper in Wondows XP and having them move, just by doing the process above. It seems like that no longer works for newer versions of Windows. I did a bit of searching, and some people have recommended some programs to use to make animated gifs display as your wallpaper.
Thanks! Really cool port!
Little side note about the poly function: if you allow a float for the number of sides instead of an int, you can use the map function to generate polygons where the number of sides grows smoothly. If that's difficult to visualise this is what I mean:
Thank you.
Just assuming the vast majority of people might be using ubuntu/mint or alike and wonder about the double bracket thing: https://www.slant.co/versus/528/1601/~dash_vs_bash
$sudo bash script.sh works. sudo sh might not work even with shebang as ubuntu loves dash so much.
OP would have said if uses Arch, right? All Arch users do.
Holy crap, this is awesome! Any idea who the creator is? Got a source link?
[edit] Nevermind, found it. His name is IsoPoly, and his Tumblr and Dribble are here:
Instead of trying to fake user inputs, just make it follow a path you define. http://mathworld.wolfram.com/Lemniscate.html

if you really want the two halves to be circular then uh just make it follow a path composed of two circles, hard to construct that algebraically but you get the point
Just download Watch maker for your smart watch, then the Spotlight watch face and you have something similar. Use it on my LG Urbane and I love it!
I got it from some app on play store about 1.5 years ago. It was an app to set gifs as your wallpaper. Don't remember the name. The artist wasn't mentioned in the app either as far as i can remember.
Edit: this is the app
If you haven't already, I'd give the latest version of Slide a try. The latest official update has improved speed and smoothness of everything like tenfold. :)
oh hey omni, what's up? i love your work tumblr did recently up their size limits to 2mb but the version i posted here is 20 mb (oops)
whenever i'm upset about render times i remember things like zebra take 30 minutes to render... per frame. then i feel slightly less upset but more horrified in general. what a weird industry
So uh I hate to be that person but OP claims OC and states that they made this but it’s on stutterstock where you can purchase it without the stutterstock watermark.
there are ways to do it without forking out ($300 iirc :O) for the plotagraph app, there's a bunch of videos on how to get the effect in AE and photoshop on youtube.
'magic morph' is the software that this technique was born on, it's about 20 years old and free online just less streamlined than plotagraph and a little more labour intensive.
Printing all words (including the nonsense ones) is pretty easy and can be done in linear time with respect to the output size. If by all words you mean all English words then the problem isn't really well-posed from a computational perspective since there are only finitely many English words and thus the problem can be solved in constant time.
Finally, the case where you're trying to generate such a sequence for a given set of valid words is probably the most interesting one. The problem is clearly in NP and I'd guess that it's equivalent to the Hamiltonian path problem which is NP-complete.

It's not perfect, find something else to post.
Also maybe don't record your own screen/post stuff of recorded screens? Just a suggestion, because it's kind of the lazy way out. It's not as if finding the original and ripping that is very hard, although this isn't a perfect loop, so don't do that with this one, but rather next time! :)

From Quora:
> Another key difference between US and UK chocolate is that much US chocolate uses milk that has undergone lipolysis, a process that partially breaks down the fatty acids in milk.
> [...]
> The down-side is that the process releases butyric acid, one of the fatty acids present in milk. Butyric acid is the fat component responsible for the smell of parmesan cheese and baby vomit.
This is probably the article I read before that I was thinking of, in any case. But yeah, I guess there are actually many other differences in the chocolate making process!
Actually the colors are flexible and defined by CSS class, see this live demo here. Those JSONs are minified and aren't human-readable, but the important things to note about use are:
SVG { width: 100% }
(or explicitly define any SVG tag width).anim-main
class needs fill
and stroke
values for color..anim-mask
, which should have a fill
the same color as your background (can't be transparent).anim-color
instead of anim-main
. This is all commented in the style.css
sheet. If it's loading too slow, the HTML5 video version is here. This is the first loop I've made and I didn't want to cut the quality too much in sake of file size, otherwise you couldn't see the smoke very well. When I was cooking the meat I figured I'd record it and give it a try. The only thing I had was my phone and I'm not a surgeon so had to do some motion compensation on it before looping it. Feedback would be appreciated.
For the curious, I smoked a pork boston butt (which is actually part of the shoulder, know your cuts) and pork rib end roast for 10 hours at 220° F using apple wood. The resulting pulled pork sandwich was delicious.
Premiere Pro (PP) is what I use. Basically all the Adobe Suite is great for video editing, as it is the most known out here.
The "program" I used today is .... none. Basically I downloaded the video, cut it frame by frame, and when the loop was visible, put it all together to make a gif. Up to this point, PP works wonders. Here, I just used a website (https://ezgif.com) and stitched the 18 frames together and set a speed of 1/10. I didn't have any other tool on my end so.... that's the result.
it looks awesome but I wish you would set the per-frame delay=2, can be done simply by https://ezgif.com/speed "increase by: 1000%" this is a quality content but the frame-delay is very choppy, but easy to fix :)
Lemme see if I can explain.
Cinemagraphs (which is their proper name) are still photograph in which minor movement occurs ^Source
Just a quick note, you can use IFTTT to automatically post tweets to reddit. I don't really use twitter so it would be great if you kept the subreddit updated.
Also, your game looks awesome, It definitely on my list.
I have an (Android) app called GIF Live Wallpaper that'll do it for you, although tbh, the quality isn't brilliant. It's a start though.
The material is a plastic filament that comes on a spool, usually 1 kilogram per spool. There are different plastics but the most common is PLA. This exact one is here on Amazon for $23-- $0.023 (2.3 cents) a gram. You can find some as low as $15/kg.
It's plastic, and it's mostly hollow, so it's pretty light. This model is 55 grams, times 2.3c = $~1.27.
That's not counting electricity, printer maintenance, etc., but yeah the material itself is pretty cheap.
Tabletop version USD $150 on Amazon
Build your own for ~USD $185
I use this app called Video Live Wallpaper. The interface is a little crappy and there may be better apps (I'll gladly take recommendations), but it works for my purposes. No app icon, as it's a Live Wallpaper, just go to change your wallpaper, it'll be there.
It's only for mp4 video, but you can easily convert a gif to mp4 online.
Select a video. I set Rendering Mode to Stretched and Swiping Smoothness to Smoother video.
I've been using it for a year or so, with a couple of different videos with no problems and no noticable battery drain. (u/bluepillcarl)
Im pretty sure this is from a game called atomus.
EDIT: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sunglab.atomus&hl=en_US
Wonderful creative process you got, I got my inspiration from the Space app that helps me combat scrolling addiction on my Android phone.
If you're on Android, there's a few apps that are designed to do that, but I can't vouch for them other than this one, and even then I haven't used it in years and when I did, it was a free version (which seems to have disappeared), so it's possible the app is quite different now.
It did work though, but it used a lot of battery and the GIFs always looked a bit low res.
Created this for a phone wallpaper, very pleased with the result.
Made using Blender 2.79, the Ocean modifier, depth-of-field effects on the camera, and Freestyle drawing on the paper boat.
Using it with this video live wallpaper for Android to great effect.
A much better explanation that has almost no math:

Object don't roll together because the lycra is lower at one point than the other, but because the lycra is stretched. I.e., a non-stretchy thing (like twine) taped to the lycra before you put the weight there will be too short.
