Urrrgh. Letting players activate it on Steam would help drive more sales by increasing visibility through friends lists and 'active players' charts. Seems like a short-sighted decision.

This angers me a bit, probably because I have been spoiled by the devs of Stellaris and Factorio, the devs for both games every single week release updates about what they are working on. The next update for Stellaris is probably months away and already the community has a really good idea exactly what is happening because the Paradox devs have shown us.
From what I have seen over the past couple years is that ED's development is a much more closed off process. For all the community knows what you said could be exactly what has happened. The only times we really hear what the devs are up to is about 3 weeks prior and 2 weeks post update release, at big events and during fuckups like this (and when they have to god-mode community goals or nerf gold rush missions). They give big season long projections of what they are planning then we never hear from them again. FDev release features like CQC or SRVs then largely abandon development of those features for months to years on end while fiddling with game assets adding some bread crumbs for a story and some grindy upgrades for our ships, it took them something like 12-18 months for them to add and change features in Engineers enough to make it less of an RNG grind fest with a slot machine at the end.
I really enjoyed the time I played ED exploring, but the snails pace of development and complete lack of meaningful communications from their dev team with the community is seriously frustrating.
I use borderless gaming. It's this background program that basically removes the border from games running in windowed mode. Works on pretty much anything that will run in windowed mode.

>The Unregulated Slaves are currently undergoing an intensive ISA-certified retraining regime. The graduates of which are expected to go on sale from Lagerkvist Gateway next weekend.
Of course, all those Unregulated Slaves are totally acquired voluntarily etc etc Imperial propaganda yadah yadah.
That's likely from a galactic impact that occurred billions of years ago. It's known that the Milky Way has absorbed at least one galaxy large galaxy, and probably thousands more on it's crash course to wherever the hell it's headed, like the longest, slowest game of https://agar.io/ imaginable.
There's a higher resolution version if you want to use it. :)
Good eye! That's a bit odd considering the amazon listing even has it in there as "logitech".
Kinda sucks but with everything I read about these things I opted in for the $4/4 year protection plan through amazon. Couldn't hurt, right?
For those wondering, that black hole is from universe simulator Space Engine. The simulation depicts black holes with accretion disks and without, and also what happens when you go inside one. No seriously, you can go inside one and watch the universe disappear within a tiny blue ball surrounded by complete darkness. It's actually terrifying.
It's not a perfectly accurate depiction (real black holes are thought to look like this) but it's close.

avoid the main discussion on official forums as it is quite toxic with whingy loudmouths!(newcomer section is reasonably ok). Elite is not perfect and not finished but I have well got my moneys worth.
This subreddit is for Elite Dangerous, a space simulator video game set in a procedurally generated universe of 400 billion star systems. This comic is referencing the dreaded moment that sometimes happens when you drop into a binary system from warp speed and the heat from the stars fries your ship and causes you damage.
From the first line of the "What is Elite: Dangerous" link on the game's website and the first line of the "About the Game" section of the steam store:
> Elite: Dangerous is the definitive massively multiplayer space epic.
If a person who knows nothing of the old Elite games reads that, what should they think the game is? And if they buy it based upon this information and then find out that multiplayer functionality is lacking after some hours of play, what should they do?
The game lacks a ton of multiplayer functionality that would make the quoted statement above true. The instancing is in a rough spot, so bad that there are days where it's lucky if you even get to see your wing mates in your instance. There's no content that is designed for multiplayer in the game at this moment, everything is more or less designed around the single player experience. There's no in-game representation of player groups and no real way for these groups to create emergent gameplay or leave a real mark on the galaxy. Etc and so forth. These are really basic things that people expect to get when a game is marketed as an MMO game.
I like the game, but I like it as a single player game and rarely play outside of solo anymore, because the multiplayer aspects are not designed well for something that is in the first line of the game's description to be true.

I used to live in Shanghai and I used a VPN regularly to play any games that had to connect to overseas servers. Did you try a paid VPN service or a free one? I used Astrill VPN and it worked fine for me most of the time. Good luck man, online gaming in China is rough.
Got these J-Pein mounts from amazon. I debated between that and Foxxmounts But the 2-day shipping and flexible brackets for when I upgrade sold me. Thanks /r/hotas
By all means. Heck, I'll even give you the <strong>source code</strong>.
That project should be more than enough to get you started, in fact, all you need to do is add some UI porn and you're practically done.
The world would be a much better place if we all collaborated on projects like this. I follow the philosophy that software should be collaborative, and most importantly, free.
Good luck, and God speed CMDR. o7
No re-writing is necessary. Players are members of Pilots Federation. This means they shouldn't necessarily be punished under the same conditions as NPCs, who are not affiliated with PF. Bounties can be higher, can preserve death, PF license can be suspended, resulting in reduction or severance of insurance. After all > The Pilots Federation's zero tolerance policy regarding dishonourable behaviour among its members is enforced by a system of bounties automatically placed on the heads of transgressors.
Since NPCs aren't affiliated with PF, their bounties are only authority-based. Thus the PF bounty should be another thing altogether on top of regular bounty.
If we agree that going criminal suspends your PF license, criminal players could get some other tag, like CRML or PIRATE instead of CMDR. This would limit player's options in civilized space, but could also open new career avenues for such player, including new, fourth rank dedicated to illegal activities for example. Limiting smuggling missions or black market access only to criminal players? Why the heck not? If their life is made properly miserable in civilized space, let them exclusively reap those profitable illegal activities.
EDIT: Unless you meant the code, not the lore. In this case, yes, huge parts should be rewritten.
Hi everyone. Thanks again for the great reaction to the first painting. Following the link, I've created a page where you can view the most recent artwork as well as older work (scroll to right). This most recent painting is available in 1080p (click image) for those who want it as a desktop background or whatever.
Going over some of the feedback from last time, some of you had great suggestions that I would like to work in for some community involvement. One idea that occurred to me is compiling a survey for you to vote on which type of planets and ships you'd like to see. Included is also the option for you to upload any planet you've discovered that you'd like to see the surface of. Needless to say whatever gets the most votes is what I'll create next.
As time goes on and with your help I'll improve this process. Hope you like it, and please keep the love and suggestions coming.

EDIT: if anyone has knowledge of web development and can guide me to how to change the thumbnail to the correct image, that would be much appreciated.
I used Watchmaker to make the face. Pretty simple (but lets you get decently complex with Lua scripting and stuff) layer based watchface editor. I've made a few watchfaces with it lol, it's pretty easy and fun to use. No need to write a full Java/Kotlin app if it's got the feature set you want.
The faction icons I took from EDassets, modified (changed to white so they can be tinted dynamically), and added the glow around them. The other icons (weather, moon etc) are built in to Watchmaker.
> It looks to me like Frontier deliberately designed Power Play so the Solo players could participate.
All the Frontier PP blurb backs you up.
Such as "Powerplay is an ongoing battle for interstellar conquest and control that touches and enhances every aspect of the Elite Dangerous experience. Ally yourself with a galactic Power, guide their strategy, earn valuable perks and bonuses, and dominate human-occupied space together. Every player's choices and actions can impact the balance of galactic power."
The whole thing says absolutely nothing about PP being PvP.
For FD to reneg on PP for solo players would be disgraceful.
i just stumbled accross them,i dont know anything more then what's on the site that u/bshaftoe (link) mentioned
and that they are sold out
A large part of the fun of open play is supposed to be the risk of someone coming along and doing something reprehensible to you. If all you want is Galactic Truck Simulator 2015, Solo mode is literally RIGHT THERE just for you. Or, if you still want player interaction with 0 risk from other players, use private group mode with a group like Mobius.
If you really want 0 risk and to just grind money all day, allow me to recommend a game for you: http://orteil.dashnet.org/cookieclicker/
You can build Lego stuff virtually using the Windows app found here.

Once you're finished, it generates the construction manual and box which you can then order.. It's a bit expensive but pretty cool.
I recommend this electrical silicone lubricant.

you can get hdmi audio extractor for about $20.
I think often people use receivers that pass through hdmi, or they use audio outputs that are baked into the TV. that may be why steam didn't bother.
I've always heard the thrustmaster T.16000m hotas is the best "cheap" hotas
https://www.amazon.com/Thrustmaster-T-16000M-FCS-HOTAS-Controller/dp/B01KCHPRXA
I have one, and love it. As far as lateral/vertical thrusters are concerned, there is an analog stick for your left hand pointer finger on the throttle that works great. The stick itself has HALL Effect sensors (same sensors as the very pricey Warthog stick) and is very accurate. It's mostly plastic of course, but at that price point it's a given. The stick buttons (on the base) are kind of useless in VR, but since you aren't running E:D in VR it isn't an issue.
The only real downside is the throttle lubricant from the factory is pretty garbage. I spent a few minutes taking the base off of the bottom and putting some Nyogel 767a lubricant and it has been perfect since.
Programming a game on your own is awesome. Everyone else can try this already existing port for android while they wait, I guess? (havent tried myself)

According to this Schwarzschild radius calculator you would only need to be about 42 light seconds away from the 4.3 million solar mass singularity of Sag A*, which just about fits its exclusion zone in Elite (I don't exactly recall the exclusion zone, but I remember it was around 50 Ls)

I think the devs of subnautica have a pretty nice solution for this. They use a site called trello to plan development for their game. It's public so everybody can see what they are working on right now, what's coming with the next update or what's planned for the far future. Sometimes the community can vote what features they like the most.
If you want to take a look at it they have this two main trello boards:
And if something has to be a secret due to spoilers they just write something like "secret feature". I am pretty sure trello also leaves you the option to make some posts only visible for coworkers so that really shouldn't be a problem.
IMO this is a really neat way to keep your community updated and would be pretty good for elite aswell.
> it's not normal, it doesn't feel natural to us, and it's nothing humanity would see or build ever in its 2 million year history.
But yeah, kudos for aliens looking alien, and the way it flies, but that one not because it's alien but because it makes sense. It flies like a creature of that shape would swim. Like our airplanes fly similar to birds. To merge something that is alien to our senses with something that works and makes sense at the same time... now that's hard.
"Im literally getting enjoyment out of seeing numbers go up." Have you ever tried cookie clicker? It is what taught me that I also, need to see a doctor.
I'm almost positive they've mentioned that it is a battlecruiser. Which is the same type as the capital ships in High Intensity zones.
Edit: Yep, here we go https://www.elitedangerous.com/en/galnet/13-MAY-3301
Check the top comments in this thread. It's like people are hoping it will fail and every news of any setback is good news to them.
I sometimes wonder what causes that. Need to feel superior? Fear ED won't succeed if SC won't fail? Other insecurity-related irrational ideas?
I'm glad stuff at Frontier goes relatively smoothly. But what happens at CIG isn't that much unusual when it comes to development either. Frontier is the outliner (positive one), CIG is way closer to norm, see below:
Source:http://www.versionone.com/assets/img/files/CHAOSManifesto2013.pdf Note it talks about final deadlines, not internal ones
The 2012 CHAOS results show another increase in project success rates, with 39% of all projects succeeding (delivered on time, on budget, with required features and functions); 43% were challenged (late, over budget, and/or with less than the required features and functions); and 18% failed (cancelled prior to completion or delivered and never used).
Cataloging as much as we can over on Canonn Science trello board. Feel free to check the general Research Board for updates, we'll be trying to keep up with as much info as we can from multiple sources (including here).
Exactly, there is Limit theory as well. I have been following the development of it and it seems really promising. I will play any space sim that's out there. All we've had for the last 10 years is x3.. the new one doesn't count, that was filth.
So owning stations is far off from the intended gameplay, but players do want it. And I would say, this desire is getting facilitated indirectly.
https://www.elitedangerous.com/en/colonia-expansion-initiative/
So... Why exactly is it a bad thing to discuss possible implementations? Why shouldn't a game grow beyond its intended borders?
Please, fanboiism aside both devices are heads above what is in the market and available currently.
As to the subject, their store page at https://www.elitedangerous.com/ does indicate SteamVR and HTC Vive support.
They are striving, as far as I can tell, to support VR. Be that will end up being through OpenVR, SteamVR or Oculus is irrelevant in the end as HMDs will end up being commodities like monitors.
There is much debate on the subject. Of course there is more to come such as Nebula and the view across the galactic plane will change depending on where you get to.
It already does and is named http://spaceengine.org/ going to have a much better time exploring there. Joking aside elite kind of already does to, that pic is 100 planetary nebulea. There are only 4 different models for random ones but things like the "Fine Ring" look fantastic just really small
Have you seen Space Engine? It's a free space simulation where you can explore the galaxy (and other galaxies) and find pretty shots like OP's. Scott Manley made some videos of it.
Hey, if you want to record videos try looking at Open Broadcast Software. It runs a lot smoother than FRAPS does. Or if you have a recent Nvidia Graphics Card, use GeForce Shadow Play.
For OBS:
Right click on the field that says "Scenes" and select "Add Scene" call it something like "Desktop" or games
Right click on the "Sources" field and select "Game Capture"
Select "Use Hotkey" and change it to whatever button you'd like. This is how the program knows what game you are in. IE, hit start recording then open the game and press that hotkey.
Click "Settings" next to "Start Streaming" and go the the "Encoder" tab.
Select "x264" (You can use the Nvidia one if you have a CUDA capable card"
Change the max bitrate to something between 16000 and 24000 for best quality
The audio shout be one AAC at the bitrate 320
Click the "Broadcast Settings" tab and change the mode to "File Output Only" and select the filepath and default file name you'd like
Click the "Video" tab and make sure the FPS is set to something your computer is capable of, like 60
Now you're all set. Open up OBS when you want to record and hit "Start Recording", open up the game and press your hotkey. This method with save you a ton of space and it has a way lower overhead than FRAPS.
The Nvidia one is self explanitory. Open up GeForce Experience and select "Preferences" and select the ShadowPlay tab on the left. Setup is similar and much more straight forward. The quality on ShadowPlay is amazing and takes less than 1% overhead since it's just dumping the VRAM to a video.
View from the other side, dialogue begins around 9-10mins in when i came back from helping the new tenant move in (at home in RL). https://www.twitch.tv/jonnyve/v/60531160 i was had like a kipper :) Big lads
I was doubtful but then I tried it myself and this looks like it's true.
I took a screenshot in one of the training missions to get a sidewinder and make comparisons easier, but this is the full game not that single player training demo.
If you're having difficulty spotting the differences, look at the vents. The differences are pretty glaring.
Edit: Have ticketed issue with Frontier.
Edit 2:
The problem is not present in the current build of the Single player combat demo, which is interesting. Here's a pic I took in the demo: http://i62.tinypic.com/2e6def6.jpg
Here's a full PDF of The Dark Wheel. It came with the original Elite.
Text version on Ian Bell's site.
Hey, Not the first time seeing a comment like this and the answer is pretty simple if not very satisfying. Kickstarter.
The game was funded by investors committing money, we received more rewards if more money was kicked in.
The result of which is a new type of collaborative game development. Those who spent enough to reach the Alpha tier get earlier access to the game than the developers would normally be comfortable with. The 'downside' is that we see a lot more coverage via Youtube and Twitch, and if the game is good, then more people take interest and want to get involved.
Unfortunately, to be fair to those who supported the projects first breaths, the investment prices continue while the rewards are still being delivered, which confuses and frustrates a lot of people.
You can check out the tiers here -- https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1461411552/elite-dangerous
On the other hand, yeah, the prices are really high. Myself, I could only go as far as Beta access even though I love Elite and am excited about everything I have seen so far. So I, like you, wait while the game develops and is hopefully getting better every day.
Edit It's 35 Pounds in the store for the final game. https://store.zaonce.net/
Far more than that. It looks like they accelerated from 25 meters per second to 9.5 km per second in let's say about a tenth of a second. That means OP pulled 9,662 Gs, according to this calculator. I got bored, so I checked.
The CMDR in question is dead. The ship is also dead.
Steam is running a sale right now, perhaps you'll find a game you can enjoy.
I won't argue your points as you've already made up your mind but I agree and disagree with your arguments but the fundamental problem that I see is that the game fails to live up to your expectations. It's a shame, you were around for one of Frontiers greatest backpedals (the fighter price drop), after all you did pay for it and invested your time but perhaps it's just not the game you really need right now.
Have fun where ever you land!
BTW, Mount and Blade: Warbands, it's old so it's probably cheap, has a harsh learning curve but it's a fun game if you've got time to play it (it's single player so it's all at your pace) - it's very punishing at first but mellows out and the rewards are fair.
>https://isthereanydeal.com/game/elitedangerouscommanderdeluxeedition/info/
It's been lower recently (and often) but it's a good enough price if you want to play now.
There's a bunch of positive reviews already -- the thing is that I'd describe the target audience as "niche" as, unlike many modern games, it doesn't try to cater to the lowest common denominator. The devs went so far as saying they are making the game for themselves, but otoh that is simply stating that it'll likely stay faithful to its roots (Elite I-III).
As such, as with most games, there will be people who love it and others who hate it. Also, keep in mind that since 2007, user reviews seem to have become more polarized in general. Very often, you'll see significant differences in how a professional reviews a game, and the rating a random gamer slaps on it. For example, did you like ME3? Because going by it's user reviews, it should have been a flop.
My recommendation would be to be skeptical with reviews and use them only to list features and technical specifications, filtering the writer's biased perception as best as possible, and instead stick more to the Let'sPlays and ask yourself if you might have fun doing what you see in the video.
I'd say buying the game brings a certain risk, but in the end, it all depends on your own personal preferences, not some reviewer's. Perhaps you could play the free Oolite, and see how much you enjoy that? Because if you're having fun there, chances are you'll enjoy ED, too.
> Because most people playing a PVP centric game that avoid it do so because they don't want to lose their shit, which is the outcome that pushed them towards solo to begin with.
If they were playing for the PvP, then they wouldn't have been pushed to Solo; they would have left the game instead.
>The general consensus on here is people play solo because they don't like losing their money due to a fight they were either unprepared for or didn't know how to fight.
How many people that neither care for nor want interaction with other players do you think regularly post in a forum or board?
>Edit: I can't even find where they advertise playing not attached to the multiplayer community on their advertisements, https://www.elitedangerous.com/en/gameplay/
How about the page where they describe the multiplayer, https://www.elitedangerous.com/en/gameplay/wings : "In Solo play you can choose never meet another human player, yet the results of your actions still contribute to economy, politics and conflicts of the connected galaxy, and you experience the echoes of their activity."
Besides, in Steam the game is listed as both single-player and multi-player.
Google can see it, so DNS propagation is likely still happening—had to modify the zone file to point it at the web server after registering the domain. Should un-fuck itself in the next 20-30 minutes max.
To quote one of those 'memes' the youths are so fond of... "but y tho?"
IMU-based head trackers are great (I use an EDTracker I built myself when I'm not playing in VR) but that isn't "Poor man's VR" by any stretch of the imagination...and I would know, I'm a desperately poor man, and I built my own roomscale VR solution. (Like an impoverished Tony Stark...)
If you're already strapping a phone to your head, why not go all the way and strap it to your face for actual VR instead?
Pay the extra couple tenners to get Riftcat VRidge. Dunno about an S4, but it works a treat on the S5, and it's absolutely bananaballs awesomesauce on the S7's 1440p screen... Even with a cheap $8 'cardboard compatible' headset you can get on Amazon, or at Walmart...
Of course, if you have or can beg/borrow/steal use of a 3D printer, there are some very high-end DIY headset solutions on Thingiverse for free, and you can get real good optics on Amazon.
Important note regarding Elite and DIY VR: Best played with a 2k (2560x1440) or better screen, even if you're only playing at 1080p... A 1080p screen simply won't resolve text well enough to read...though, you might be able to muddle through, if you're not basically effin' blind like me. (Seriously, 20/65 in my dominant eye, and the condition is progressive. #FML)
no wait, i remember this, it wasn't Firefox, it was me hahaha, omg that was hilarious at the moment. Sundae told me he had only few seconds of oxygen left even lol
Edit: here's the timestamp from Twitch xD https://www.twitch.tv/gr4b3r/v/59595865?t=01h49m34s
To do that they would have to negotiate the rights to use Tesla's IP (the design of the Roadster), this would potentially cost a lot of money regardless of how cool it would be.
Then you have the potential problem of rights expiring, as with the Outrun 2: Coast 2 Coast - https://kotaku.com/5662675/an-outrun-game-is-about-to-be-terminated
> And this is what earth looks like
Look*ed* like only in Frontier: First Encounters (Elite 3), because they couldn't get a sufficiently high quality terrain tessellation for recognizable Earth continents for the memory constraints they were using at the time. So they covered it with smog.
Earth will look normal again in E:D, just like in <em>Frontier: Elite 2</em>.
They first appeared in Frontier I love the variations in similar designs. If you've ever cruised across the North sea around Norway and seen all of the various oil rigs, reminds me of that. I came across that station the other night and it really felt like some out of the way outpost while all the other players were huddle around the comfort zones Eranin, iBootis etc.
https://kotaku.com/bungie-outlines-the-future-of-destiny-2-1820857274
The facts are what they are, even if they're unpopular facts. The three companies I've mentioned have all been quite a bit more responsive to player complaints than what I have seen here.
My opinion on the facts is my own. I like what I've seen with regard to community engagement out of Bungie, EA and Square Enix as of late. I can't say the same for Frontier Development.
[CoD](/r/CoDCompetitive/) has championships and uses P2P.
Starcraft 2 uses Hybrid P2P.
Heroes of the Storm uses Hybrid P2P.
Those are considered an eSport.
Sure, it will never be on par with CSGO/Dota2/LoL, but its a start.
Edit: Bonus game, thanks to /u/xaduha for reminding me that Halo also uses p2p, only the upcoming Halo 5 have dedicated servers.
> Why does every game these days run by people who seemingly do not even know how they work?
That's not true. For instance the quality of the patches in games like Warframe and NMS is from another world compared what we have here. For instance, this is a patch NMS pulled out in a random Thursday and this is the community feedback about it. This is what you get when the devs are passionate about their project.
In contrast all FD did in a year (almost exactly) was give us an half baked fleet carrier screwing up the whole game economy twice in the process.
According to Wikipedia:
A space flight simulation game is a genre of flight simulator video games that lets players experience space flight to varying degrees of realism. Many games feature space combat, and some games feature commerce and trading in addition to combat.
Unless you're talking about real space physics like <em>Orbiter</em> (or maybe something like KSP to some degree) but the flight mechanics in Elite are 6DOF and nothing close to arcade, especially in comparison with games like Everspace, Freelancer. That's where Elite really nails it.
Then we could talk about space simulator.
> Remember when FDev would even curate dual CGs which were supposed to be player-driven?
Yeah, I even remember when ppl were complaining about CGs too ;)
At least it seems that GalNet is back again: https://www.elitedangerous.com/news/galnet/article/vitadyne-nanomedicines-reach-galactic-market
Logging into open is consent. Frontier literally advertises this fact on the elite dangerous website.
Check your facts before starting incorrect information. https://www.elitedangerous.com/features/fight/
Scroll down to where it clearly states "if you choose open play..."
And kindly withdraw from this argument. You have now lost by means of evidence and facts.
> We've structured the rules - we have this thing called the Pilots Federation, where all player characters are members. That's how, from a game point of view, how we distinguish between what are AI pilots and human pilots. And they respond much more aggressively by putting bounties on your head if you kill their own members. So a player killer will attract a bounty very, very quickly. And then becomes fair game to other players - because once you've got a bounty it's okay to kill another player. That should be self-balancing. Obviously we'll tune the levels, and we will get player/player kills, but we're hoping it'll be a much more rare event.
So what I proposed is very much in line with what lore was established by David Braben some time ago. This should be still considered up to date as the official site states basically the same: https://www.elitedangerous.com/en/gameplay/pilots-federation
> The Pilots Federation's zero tolerance policy regarding dishonourable behaviour among its members is enforced by a system of bounties automatically placed on the heads of transgressors.
Right now though we only have minor faction bounties in the game. The Pilots Federation bounty is nowhere to be seen. Commander on Commander hostility should result in such a bounty.
The image was also made public on the official site with the release of horizons: https://www.elitedangerous.com/_media/feature_10.jpg
It is slightly more high res than the one we got with the newsletter. However, the newsletter one is less cropped than the version from the site.
> Lack of condemnation does not equal praise.
Nobody mentioned praise. I stated ok & in the spirit of the game.
> I don't think that sentence is either praising nor condemning the actions of pirates and people are reading too far into it.
See above.
Note: Spirit of the game from the ED website (I've highlighted the key points)
> Upgrade your ship and customize every component as you hunt, explore, fight, mine, smuggle, trade and survive in the cutthroat galaxy of the year 3301. Do whatever it takes to earn the skill, knowledge, wealth and power to stand among the ranks of the Elite.
> Experience unpredictable encounters with players from around the world in Elite: Dangerous’ vast massively multiplayer space. Fly alone or with friends in a connected galaxy where every pilot you face could become a trusted ally or your deadliest enemy.
For my entry to Frontier's Film Competition, the required music track by Erasmus Talbot inspires an introspective look at the galaxy, poking at the question of, "Why are we here?"
I have not had a lot of free time to work on videos lately, so I came up with a quick premise of what I wanted to do, finished the voice over last week, and spent most of my time this weekend grabbing an Asp and getting out to the Cat's Paw Nebula for the exploration shots and then coming back and exchanging for the Vulture to look for a capital ship fight (fortunately only 100 or so light years away in Mat Zemlya). Closing shots supported by the Crimson Eagles formation flying team.

I'd just bought 112 tons of palladium and was about to leave a station, i hope my progress was saved :/
7.25pm, they're back up
7.30pm, UNWELL :(
Basically, these guys are rewriting an entire engine to run Morrowind from the ground up, including an editor.
Their goal is to be able to have backwards compatibility with any mod ever made for Morrowind, all with an engine that is much more robust, modernized, and much more open to mods. So much of Morrowind is dated due to its old engine, this will hopefully open it up to more tweaking, better performance, and more time ~~wasted~~ enjoying the bets of the Elder Scrolls!
I haven't downloaded any of the beta builds as I am waiting for the project to be completed, but the video/dev commentaries look fantastic.
Because having any kind of atmosphere or cloud has much to do with that, pat on the back buddy, keep starting your sentences with "LOL", it totally doesn't give away in an instant that you have no fucking clue what you are talking about, only assume a default defensive position in favour of Frontier, not realizing they can rip you off then not deliver exactly because of that.
Never heard of Space Engine either I assume. http://spaceengine.org/ This thing was 5 years in development before first public release. From 2005 to 2010. And you know what? It didn't use kickstarter, it doesn't have microtransactions, or paid expansions, and the whole shit is free.
IF we have microtransaction, IF the game is paid, IF the expansion is paid, after 5 years of development which Elite has very well been in already, I'd expect at least a fucking blue sky, or a waterworld, or that FOUR year old gas giant cloud tech demo in the very background of a David Braben interview where he speaks of flying near gas giants and electrical storms and whatever. FOUR years ago.
None of it is here. Not even news, not even teasing of news, not even fucking hope there'll be a teasing of news anytime soon. Just hours and hours of loading screens in disguise like it's an Assassin's Creed loading screen where you can look around, and when you are not in a loading screen, you wait to fly in 1 direction with no gameplay, and should you consider having a fast ship to travel and then pay for your bigger ships to be delivered there, your kind of people voted to put a 10 to 40 minutes cooldown timer on that too, on top of paying of course.
Easier way is just use youtube floating extension on chrome. Works the exact same way, and you can play any youtube video and you can change videos on the fly.

Soon after retiring sockbot, I moved onto a new project involving pinging twitch's public API for data regarding ongoing streams. Filtering for streamers who set Elite: Dangerous as their game, I could gather their viewer counts for visualisation and analysis.
Interactive version: RAM WARNING! DO NOT OPEN THIS ON LOWER END SYSTEMS
https://plot.ly/~purrcat259/36/ed-stream-viewers-over-time/
Source code can be found here:
https://github.com/purrcat259/twitch-statistics/
Eventually I hope to develop it into an exposure tool, where streamers can see their viewer count as it changes and also for the community to be able to be exposed to different streamers, both the lesser known ones and the ones who get hundreds of viewers every stream.
>an effect of quantum physics called electron degeneracy.
quantum physics, all right then. For a moment I thought you are talking politics and politicians.
Free to download , just need the Watchmaker app for your wearos (or galaxy watch, probably) device and it can be imported
Since I live in Iran and sanctions and stuff are being thrown at us, the only way I could stay connected to the game for a solid 2 hours was with a VPN, without a VPN I could barely make a jump without losing connectionNow after this update all I can do is log in and that's it! The game doesn't connect to the server with a long loading screen when choosing open/solo, and I can't even go beyond the main menu with a VPN, let alone be able to choose a game mode. ProtonVPN doesn't work and I have to wait until October for my Windscribe account to reset and if that doesn't work either there's absolutely no way I can play the game if they really blocked VPNs
Thank you Fdev, I'm only a month or two into this game and I already hate you
>Its only that way because of crowd funding... They're trying to sell more things so they get more revenue for the development of the game.
SC has already pulled in something like ~~$60 million~~ $48 million from backing. I'm no game developer, but I'm pretty sure that's enough for development. At this point, can we even call it crowdfunding instead of pre-ordering?

Bah! 2am for me... Any chance you could post a link to the recording once it's done?
I assume gamespot will let us watch it back later
On the left, the Cobra MkIII
and the right, the Viper
The links are to the .stl files for each ship if you have access to a printer of your own. Enjoy!
Oh yeah, good example. Kinda creepy isn't it? "We did it guys! We gave our money to people for a service of which we all have a completely different and very loose understanding!"
I mean, there isn't anything fundamentally different with being excited about buying a finished product, except in this case it's like buying a 'customized one-size-fits all', if you take my meaning: they're buying the delusion that "we're all going to get exactly what we want!" as if that were possible, and it's simply doomed to the cycle we've described from the start.
The only stuff I have contributed for kickstarter is stuff that's legitimately not going to be made without help (this was a recent one) and which serves a niche market.
But overfunding a video game for commercial release? It's just not my bag. Make something, then I will buy what I like.
Then again, I am waiting for E:D to be released as well before I buy, and I gave up on early adoption long ago.
>Very reminds of EVE - that's not a good thing.
It's from <strong>Pieter Willem Botha</strong>.
It's the basis of adaptation to struggle and survival.
“The measure of intelligence is the ability to change.” - <strong>Albert Einstein</strong>
You're chasing the ghosts of EVE and seeing the problems between the sub-communities as phantoms. Adaptation is not unwavering acknowledgement or sacrificial acceptance. It's altering your interaction, methodology, and perspective to produce something great out of the challenge you face.
Recommending that one side of the community should take the gameplay and enjoyment they already find in Elite, and go elsewhere, is not adaptation. It's avoidance and something that does not benefit the community at large, due to a finite number of people that will ever try out Elite, much less remain in it regardless of what aspect kept them.
>that's just a vocal minority
Citation needed.
Edit: >Removing solo or private groups though
What? That has nothing to do with what I quoted from you.
I know this will probably be buried. Maybe good guy OP could add it to the post.
Here is the .webm.
Add it to the movies folder in C:\Users*****\AppData\Local\Frontier_Developments\Products\FORC-FDEV-D-1002\movies
folder to use it as your start up screen. perfectly looped.
They are the fictional stars from the 1984 game where the player started out. Lave, Diso, Reidquat, Zaonce. You can see them on this image. They were created and named by early procedural generation technology :)
I extracted this speech-like audio from the sounds yesterday:
Sounds more like a voice than yours, but I don't think its a message. Just cool sound design.
>I may occasionally help here or there with minor audio-related issues you guys may have.
Your edited clip and the fact that you have posted a screenshot of Fruity Loops with some EQ and Hardcore open, including a Reverb, demonstrates that you don't really know what you're doing.
How badly did you fail physics? lol
> None of his laws of motion care about gravity or air resistance only Mass. The absence of gravity changes nothing.
So you don't know how to draw force diagrams...not a great start...
> why would it need fuel if it required no energy to move an object?
And you don't understand the differences between force, impulse, and energy...
> To move 1 US ton 1 yard needs a force of 18,000 lb/f2.
And you don't understand units...because lb/f2 is pressure - not...what are you even claiming here?
And you used a calculator you clearly don't understand, let alone the inputs/outputs of the calculator.
"Distance" in this calculator isn't "the distance an object gets moved" - it's the "distance from the center of mass at which a force is applied to the object" which, in this case, is a point mass.
If that wasn't immediately obvious, mousing-over the "distance" label in the calculator tells you as much FYI.
What you actually plugged in was a calculation of the moment of inertia (which is lb*ft^2) of a point mass for a force applied 1 yard from the center of mass. Moment of inertia has absolutely nothing to do with the amount of energy required to move 1 ton a distance of 1 yard.
> To move 1 US ton 1 yard needs a force of...
There's not enough information in this statement to actually come to the result you're claiming. You're missing more than half of the variables and conditions required - but of course, if you knew what you were talking about, you'd already know that.
> Lol what is going on? A bunch of kids that failed high school science are correcting me?
At least for my part, an actual, real-life rocket scientist is correcting you and down-voting your stupid ass.
This is why 5 minutes on Google doesn't make you an expert.
They use scale-able computing from Amazon. The more traffic they have going to the game the more servers are dynamically allocated.

Works great with dual monitors, I can do what I want with the second monitor while in Supercruise or while docked without the game minimizing and getting me killed later on. :)

FAQ http://steamcommunity.com/greenlight/faq/
"If my game is accepted through Steam Greenlight, can I give my previous customers keys for the Steam version?
Once your game is accepted for distribution on Steam, we will give you as many keys for your game as you want at no cost."
Kerbal space program is 1 game I know off the top of my head that gave free keys to existing users.
And before you say that's only for greenlight, its not.
http://www.geekwire.com/2011/valves-newell-predicts-shakeup-for-closed-game-consoles/
"Newell: Yeah, people can use it or not use it. We give away the tools for free. They can be included in people’s products. … We’ll provide server capacity, matchmaking services, product services, and all that’s free for content developers. If a product gets sold through our system, then we take a tax. If it’s sold through retail, or if it’s sold through a developer’s website or it’s sold through Origin or Direct2Drive, then we don’t take anything."
Devs can even sell steam keys from their own website and take 100% of the profit. The 30% they take from games that have sold directly from steam is basically for its advertisement on steam.
I'm an Orbiter fan and player from a decade, and i really miss a true gravitation physic in E:D. I'd love to plot orbits around celestial body, and plan realistic re-entries on planets instead of the typical, impossible, sci-fi "dive-in" approach.
I see how the "flying like a plane" is more intuitive (and somewhat more cinematics and spectacular) but to me "space flying" have to be like with FA-Off and gravitational mechanics.
Imho E:D lacks some "smart" feature to help with FA-Off (or i may be just too used to Orbiter) like the "kill rotation" command (it automatically stops any rotational movement, without changing linear movements) that could make the "vector flying" more accessible no matter what controls you own.
IMHO again, E:D should also provide "special ships" that just don't have FA but that do other things better (say, looong jump range or great hull or shields) so you trade some "comfort" like the FA for something else. I mean: a good game is when you have to make choices, right? Or perhaps Carriers, not having the thrusters for landing, could provide a good "excuse" to made them available to fly but only in "vector" mode.
So, the answer to your question is that i'd like so much to fly in FA Off for immersion and feeling to be in space, but the lack of true gravitational simulation ruin that immersion, so i just stay in a more coheret "star wars like" suspension of belief using FA.

Sign up for the CG(s) at any mission board
Then deliver the requested stuff to the designated place.
Rewards will currently show "none" but credit rewards will unlock as the week goes on, and if you read the text, you'll see this one has additional rewards as well.
Frontier sets up a goal for all players to contribute to, whether that's delivering certain goods to a station or turning in bounty vouchers. The more you contribute to the goal, the higher you climb on the community goal "leader board". The higher your contribution gets the better your reward once the goal has been completed. Its cool to see everyone working together on one task. https://www.elitedangerous.com/community/goals/
Yup.
It's in the Manual (page 50) that's linked from the game's launcher (upper right corner).
It's also mentioned in the Docking Tutorial video (2:43) available from the game's start screen, last option on the right, Training, or from the ship's right panel, Codex section.
[Fight Arm yourself. It's a cutthroat galaxy out there.
It’s a cutthroat galaxy out there and you’ll need combat skills to survive. Whether you’re a trader, miner, explorer or dedicated combat pilot, you’ll need to be ready to stand your ground and fight.
Every ship can be outfitted weapons that fit your combat style, from rapid-fire multi-cannons to auto-targeting beam lasers. Combined with a selection of shields and armor, your ship can be armed to take on the galaxy’s pirates, law enforcement or even rogue commanders.
If you choose to fly in Open Play you’ll encounter other commanders in a galaxy where friendly fire is always on. Rogue commanders are those pilots who have betrayed the Pilots federation by turning on their own; those pilots can carry huge bounties, making them prime targets for skilled hunters.
And combat pilots now face a new challenge, rising from the shadows. Combat pilots are humanity’s frontline against the Thargoid alien incursion. The Aegis research initiative has been created to arm and equip Commanders with experimental technology to defend the galaxy from the Thargoids.
There are credits to be made taking on assassination missions, hunting criminals or being a mercenary for the galaxy’s superpowers. Arm your ship, choose your battles and take on the galaxy. Combat offers direct progression to the rank of Elite.](https://www.elitedangerous.com/features/fight/)
It's right here
https://www.elitedangerous.com/features/#v-features__intros
Under the "fight" heading. if you click "learn more" on your own link you're taken to the text the OP is talking about.
They have removed the "just hunt other commanders" text from the main segment. Possibly just part of a redesign, who can say? There's still plenty of references to being prepared, though, it even includes a bit on the https://www.elitedangerous.com/features/fight/ URL about being ready to stand your ground and fight no matter what your background (even explorers). It's certainly not dismissive of PvP.
I would highly advise getting the game + expansion. You get a much fuller experience, you don't feel limited or excluded from current events in the game, you're not collecting items with no way to use them etc. With the expansion you can do everything the game currently offers.
However, if you are really on the fence as to whether you'll like the game or not then get the base game and upgrade if you want.

I know im kinda beating a dead horse here, but if you got around to upgrading the Oculus SDK so you could actually play E:D in VR on Win10, Arena would become a quick seller with the VR crowd.
Edit: On https://www.elitedangerous.com/ you literally have a tab called "Made for VR" now... But will you actually have an up-to-date version of the Oculus SDK ready when the CV1 launches?
