Pitfall is a good example, but it's also worthwhile to check out [Elite](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elite_(video_game\)). It existed on a variety of ~64kB (some may have been smaller), 8-bit architectures, and featured a galaxy with millions of stars (IIRC), simplistic / fun flight in 3D, with distances well above what you can natively represent with 8-bit numbers. It really was a mind-job back then.
EDIT: Fixed link, thanks /u/Kevin_Wolf
EDIT 2: I may have been thinking of Frontier with the millions number, as someone pointed out, Elite was more limited with 256 stars per galaxy. There's an interesting video by David Braben from GDC 2013, where he explains how they made the game fit into ~22kB of RAM.
Also, if you have fond memories of Elite but haven't heard, Elite:Dangerous is out and pretty cool. There's also quite a nice community over at /r/elitedangerous
This is incorrect.

I doubt they have any intention of merging these changes into the base game. They've said they'll do that in Fall, but I'll bet when Fall comes, they'll just cut the Horizons base game owners dead, blaming the out-of-date hardware like they did when they cut the Mac players dead. I just noticed that they've dropped all mention of Horizons from www.elitedangerous.com. Reminds me of when they dropped VR from there, then said that was just a website rework, and then shafted VR players on Odyssey.
>The Unregulated Slaves are currently undergoing an intensive ISA-certified retraining regime. The graduates of which are expected to go on sale from Lagerkvist Gateway next weekend.
Of course, all those Unregulated Slaves are totally acquired voluntarily etc etc Imperial propaganda yadah yadah.
I have been waiting for this for far too long.
I am so unbelievably excited.

Elite: Dangerous, the subreddit is for people looking to "Wing Up"; fly together for protection or just for fun.
The game is absolutely gorgeous, but many people consider it a bit "grindy". If you like calm/quiet games, this is perfect. If you have a beastly computer and a VR headset, the game is truly amazing.
https://www.elitedangerous.com/ is only the Milky Way galaxy. But, it's got great graphics and game design. They put in 3 different types of travel to make it playable:
https://www.elitedangerous.com/
avoid the main discussion on official forums as it is quite toxic with whingy loudmouths!(newcomer section is reasonably ok). Elite is not perfect and not finished but I have well got my moneys worth.
This subreddit is for Elite Dangerous, a space simulator video game set in a procedurally generated universe of 400 billion star systems. This comic is referencing the dreaded moment that sometimes happens when you drop into a binary system from warp speed and the heat from the stars fries your ship and causes you damage.
From the first line of the "What is Elite: Dangerous" link on the game's website and the first line of the "About the Game" section of the steam store:
> Elite: Dangerous is the definitive massively multiplayer space epic.
If a person who knows nothing of the old Elite games reads that, what should they think the game is? And if they buy it based upon this information and then find out that multiplayer functionality is lacking after some hours of play, what should they do?
The game lacks a ton of multiplayer functionality that would make the quoted statement above true. The instancing is in a rough spot, so bad that there are days where it's lucky if you even get to see your wing mates in your instance. There's no content that is designed for multiplayer in the game at this moment, everything is more or less designed around the single player experience. There's no in-game representation of player groups and no real way for these groups to create emergent gameplay or leave a real mark on the galaxy. Etc and so forth. These are really basic things that people expect to get when a game is marketed as an MMO game.
I like the game, but I like it as a single player game and rarely play outside of solo anymore, because the multiplayer aspects are not designed well for something that is in the first line of the game's description to be true.
No re-writing is necessary. Players are members of Pilots Federation. This means they shouldn't necessarily be punished under the same conditions as NPCs, who are not affiliated with PF. Bounties can be higher, can preserve death, PF license can be suspended, resulting in reduction or severance of insurance. After all > The Pilots Federation's zero tolerance policy regarding dishonourable behaviour among its members is enforced by a system of bounties automatically placed on the heads of transgressors.
Since NPCs aren't affiliated with PF, their bounties are only authority-based. Thus the PF bounty should be another thing altogether on top of regular bounty.
If we agree that going criminal suspends your PF license, criminal players could get some other tag, like CRML or PIRATE instead of CMDR. This would limit player's options in civilized space, but could also open new career avenues for such player, including new, fourth rank dedicated to illegal activities for example. Limiting smuggling missions or black market access only to criminal players? Why the heck not? If their life is made properly miserable in civilized space, let them exclusively reap those profitable illegal activities.
EDIT: Unless you meant the code, not the lore. In this case, yes, huge parts should be rewritten.
Elite: Dangerous:
"In the year 3300, across the vast expanse of an epic, full-scale recreation of our Milky Way, interstellar rivalries flare as galactic superpowers fight proxy wars.
Some may know you as an ally; others will call you a pirate, a bounty hunter, a smuggler, an explorer, an assassin, a hero... Fly alone or with friends, fight for a cause or go it alone; your actions change the galaxy around you in an ever unfolding story."
> It looks to me like Frontier deliberately designed Power Play so the Solo players could participate.
All the Frontier PP blurb backs you up.
Such as "Powerplay is an ongoing battle for interstellar conquest and control that touches and enhances every aspect of the Elite Dangerous experience. Ally yourself with a galactic Power, guide their strategy, earn valuable perks and bonuses, and dominate human-occupied space together. Every player's choices and actions can impact the balance of galactic power."
The whole thing says absolutely nothing about PP being PvP.
For FD to reneg on PP for solo players would be disgraceful.
> Slaves aren't treated as bad as you think
> They choose to get enslaved so they can pay off their debt
My god... You're right. In-fact https://www.elitedangerous.com/ and http://playboundless.com/ use the same design too... I wonder how many people have copied Albion's completely original, not borrowed at all, brand new design.... Actually, after looking, so many game sites look like this... One could almost imagine a world where Albion wasn't the originator of the design at all, but in-fact part of an overall design trend that doesn't have any specific point of origin. I mean, but what are you going to tell me next? I live in a country where there are virtually no consumer protections on the multi-billion dollar industry of gaming? That's ridiculous.

I'm almost positive they've mentioned that it is a battlecruiser. Which is the same type as the capital ships in High Intensity zones.
Edit: Yep, here we go https://www.elitedangerous.com/en/galnet/13-MAY-3301
So owning stations is far off from the intended gameplay, but players do want it. And I would say, this desire is getting facilitated indirectly.
https://www.elitedangerous.com/en/colonia-expansion-initiative/
So... Why exactly is it a bad thing to discuss possible implementations? Why shouldn't a game grow beyond its intended borders?
Please, fanboiism aside both devices are heads above what is in the market and available currently.
As to the subject, their store page at https://www.elitedangerous.com/ does indicate SteamVR and HTC Vive support.
They are striving, as far as I can tell, to support VR. Be that will end up being through OpenVR, SteamVR or Oculus is irrelevant in the end as HMDs will end up being commodities like monitors.
There is much debate on the subject. Of course there is more to come such as Nebula and the view across the galactic plane will change depending on where you get to.
>This phase will close on 5 May, allowing the development team to receive feedback, collect data, and make adjustments. Once the phase ends, the alpha will close so this is your last chance to play Odyssey until launch! Note that any progress made in the alpha will not carry over to the live game.

> Because most people playing a PVP centric game that avoid it do so because they don't want to lose their shit, which is the outcome that pushed them towards solo to begin with.
If they were playing for the PvP, then they wouldn't have been pushed to Solo; they would have left the game instead.
>The general consensus on here is people play solo because they don't like losing their money due to a fight they were either unprepared for or didn't know how to fight.
How many people that neither care for nor want interaction with other players do you think regularly post in a forum or board?
>Edit: I can't even find where they advertise playing not attached to the multiplayer community on their advertisements, https://www.elitedangerous.com/en/gameplay/
How about the page where they describe the multiplayer, https://www.elitedangerous.com/en/gameplay/wings : "In Solo play you can choose never meet another human player, yet the results of your actions still contribute to economy, politics and conflicts of the connected galaxy, and you experience the echoes of their activity."
Besides, in Steam the game is listed as both single-player and multi-player.
Come off it. It's clear from their own pages that Multicrew is a future 2.x update, and I recall them mentioning that it was coming in a post-Engineers update during various livestreams with the devs. Some of us paid attention!
By the way, it's ~400 Billion star systems in a 1 to 1 scale galaxy (Source).
To put it in to perspective, it would take over 150 000 years before every system has been seen based on the average exploration progress from the last time I remember it being reported.
> Remember when FDev would even curate dual CGs which were supposed to be player-driven?
Yeah, I even remember when ppl were complaining about CGs too ;)
At least it seems that GalNet is back again: https://www.elitedangerous.com/news/galnet/article/vitadyne-nanomedicines-reach-galactic-market
Logging into open is consent. Frontier literally advertises this fact on the elite dangerous website.
Check your facts before starting incorrect information. https://www.elitedangerous.com/features/fight/
Scroll down to where it clearly states "if you choose open play..."
And kindly withdraw from this argument. You have now lost by means of evidence and facts.
> We've structured the rules - we have this thing called the Pilots Federation, where all player characters are members. That's how, from a game point of view, how we distinguish between what are AI pilots and human pilots. And they respond much more aggressively by putting bounties on your head if you kill their own members. So a player killer will attract a bounty very, very quickly. And then becomes fair game to other players - because once you've got a bounty it's okay to kill another player. That should be self-balancing. Obviously we'll tune the levels, and we will get player/player kills, but we're hoping it'll be a much more rare event.
So what I proposed is very much in line with what lore was established by David Braben some time ago. This should be still considered up to date as the official site states basically the same: https://www.elitedangerous.com/en/gameplay/pilots-federation
> The Pilots Federation's zero tolerance policy regarding dishonourable behaviour among its members is enforced by a system of bounties automatically placed on the heads of transgressors.
Right now though we only have minor faction bounties in the game. The Pilots Federation bounty is nowhere to be seen. Commander on Commander hostility should result in such a bounty.
An entire PvE focused campaign, PvE AC modes and a PU (where according to multiple CIG members) is mostly direct PvE content (Vanduul, trading, mining etc.) and secured space isn't enough?
If you want a totally barebones-PvP/opt out game, I'm very sure you can find one that's planned to be genre-similar to SC. Otherwise you should accept that CR is making more of a PvA game (think Demon Souls and that's what CR references sometimes where players are bosses) with risk vs reward. There's plenty of PvE content being planned though just to verify that, I'm assuming this isn't enough though for certain type of people.
Yes, that's a nice site. Also, http://scaleofuniverse.com/ is a great place to put things into perspective. And if you are serious about experiencing realistic scale galaxy models, check out https://www.elitedangerous.com/.
The image was also made public on the official site with the release of horizons: https://www.elitedangerous.com/_media/feature_10.jpg

Nobody mentioned praise. I stated ok & in the spirit of the game.

For my entry to Frontier's Film Competition, the required music track by Erasmus Talbot inspires an introspective look at the galaxy, poking at the question of, "Why are we here?"
I have not had a lot of free time to work on videos lately, so I came up with a quick premise of what I wanted to do, finished the voice over last week, and spent most of my time this weekend grabbing an Asp and getting out to the Cat's Paw Nebula for the exploration shots and then coming back and exchanging for the Vulture to look for a capital ship fight (fortunately only 100 or so light years away in Mat Zemlya). Closing shots supported by the Crimson Eagles formation flying team.

Sign up for the CG(s) at any mission board
Then deliver the requested stuff to the designated place.
Rewards will currently show "none" but credit rewards will unlock as the week goes on, and if you read the text, you'll see this one has additional rewards as well.
Frontier sets up a goal for all players to contribute to, whether that's delivering certain goods to a station or turning in bounty vouchers. The more you contribute to the goal, the higher you climb on the community goal "leader board". The higher your contribution gets the better your reward once the goal has been completed. Its cool to see everyone working together on one task. https://www.elitedangerous.com/community/goals/
Yup.
It's in the Manual (page 50) that's linked from the game's launcher (upper right corner).
It's also mentioned in the Docking Tutorial video (2:43) available from the game's start screen, last option on the right, Training, or from the ship's right panel, Codex section.
[Fight Arm yourself. It's a cutthroat galaxy out there.
It’s a cutthroat galaxy out there and you’ll need combat skills to survive. Whether you’re a trader, miner, explorer or dedicated combat pilot, you’ll need to be ready to stand your ground and fight.
Every ship can be outfitted weapons that fit your combat style, from rapid-fire multi-cannons to auto-targeting beam lasers. Combined with a selection of shields and armor, your ship can be armed to take on the galaxy’s pirates, law enforcement or even rogue commanders.
If you choose to fly in Open Play you’ll encounter other commanders in a galaxy where friendly fire is always on. Rogue commanders are those pilots who have betrayed the Pilots federation by turning on their own; those pilots can carry huge bounties, making them prime targets for skilled hunters.
And combat pilots now face a new challenge, rising from the shadows. Combat pilots are humanity’s frontline against the Thargoid alien incursion. The Aegis research initiative has been created to arm and equip Commanders with experimental technology to defend the galaxy from the Thargoids.
There are credits to be made taking on assassination missions, hunting criminals or being a mercenary for the galaxy’s superpowers. Arm your ship, choose your battles and take on the galaxy. Combat offers direct progression to the rank of Elite.](https://www.elitedangerous.com/features/fight/)
It's right here
https://www.elitedangerous.com/features/#v-features__intros
Under the "fight" heading. if you click "learn more" on your own link you're taken to the text the OP is talking about.
They have removed the "just hunt other commanders" text from the main segment. Possibly just part of a redesign, who can say? There's still plenty of references to being prepared, though, it even includes a bit on the https://www.elitedangerous.com/features/fight/ URL about being ready to stand your ground and fight no matter what your background (even explorers). It's certainly not dismissive of PvP.
I would highly advise getting the game + expansion. You get a much fuller experience, you don't feel limited or excluded from current events in the game, you're not collecting items with no way to use them etc. With the expansion you can do everything the game currently offers.
However, if you are really on the fence as to whether you'll like the game or not then get the base game and upgrade if you want.
Expansion content https://www.elitedangerous.com/en/seasons/#season2
This CG is unlike those that came before!
Before participating in this CG, sign up for a faction at https://www.elitedangerous.com/en/colonia-expansion-initiative/
While we all contribute to the same CG in game, your contributions will be logged towards the faction that you have signed up for at the above website.
The top 10 factions will establish a presence in Colonia (they'll get a base and become a minor faction). The CG will then repeat every month, with the top 3 factions each month getting their minor faction established.
All 2.x patches are part of the Horizons season pass. This includes 2.0 "Horizons", 2.1 "The Engineers", 2.2 "Guardians", 2.3 "Multicrew", and 2.4 "Secret". Afterward they will start releasing whatever Season 3 will be called, with all of the 3.x patches.
If you look at the marketing from when 2.0 was released, you can see this yourself. Hell, you can see it on the season update page on the official E:D website.
It seems people who are hesitant on purchasing the season pass are unaware that Horizons isn't just "landing on planets." They think "Oh, all I do is land on planets and shoot some rocks, eh, anything else?"
You get Planetary Landings (which is much more than just shooting rocks) Engineers, (and the future updates included in the pass:) Multi Crew, Deployable Fighters, and mystery fifth update/character creator.
It's definitley worth it. No fault on you, or other players. Really wish they advertised this info a bit better. I guess they do this near the end of the description in the Xbox Store, but it's quite vague saying "Elite Dangerous will continue to add new features and gameplay as the season continues."
Maybe if they listed the stuff on this page: https://www.elitedangerous.com/en/seasons/
I know im kinda beating a dead horse here, but if you got around to upgrading the Oculus SDK so you could actually play E:D in VR on Win10, Arena would become a quick seller with the VR crowd.
Edit: On https://www.elitedangerous.com/ you literally have a tab called "Made for VR" now... But will you actually have an up-to-date version of the Oculus SDK ready when the CV1 launches?
> If they dropped the word massively they'd be completely fine, and it would accurately represent the game.
They actually did, If you go to https://www.elitedangerous.com/ it says:
> DEFINITIVE MULTIPLAYER EPIC
But then if you check out page's source it's still there, in page's description that is being pulled to search engines:
> <title>Elite Dangerous</title>
> <meta name="description" content="Elite Dangerous is the definitive massively multiplayer space epic. Take control of your own starship in an evolving, connected, cut-throat galaxy.">
> “I’m told the early investigations from telemetry and uplink data suggest an explosive drive failure destroyed Starship One in hyperspace, catapulting all three of her protective Guardian Wing out of hyperspace. "
There was a protective wing and they were ejected from hyperspace.
From one of the earlier Galnet reports:
> Federal youths
> under-40s
Is Aisling even legal? :P
Jokes aside, this is actually fairly realistic. I really like how Frontier just drops these tiny snippets of scientific predictions into its news articles - not throwing them in your face, but almost like rewarding you for paying attention. Just like how almost nobody realised that Nigel Smeaton was gay, simply because it was such a minor aspect of the Galnet article (part of a comment mentioning his partner as a "he" instead of "she").
There was a news article once about her boosting inside a federal station, bursting windows etc. I tried looking for it, but google is inconclusive. I don't know the specific date, I'll keep looking
EDIT: found it

When asked for comment, Chancellor Blaine’s office stated that the Patron’s Principles were acting without the support or knowledge of the Imperial Senate.
I am happy to see that the Senate is not in support of Patron's Principles breaking of the near millennium long treaty. The official stance of the Empire is that Patrons Principles action is not sanctioned and has been done without the Senates support or knowledge. I call on all imperial pilot groups to explain why you are supporting Patrons Principles in this! I plead with you... in the name of PEACE! Pull your troops from supporting Patrons Principles in Volungu. Commanders! don’t give yourselves to brutes - Factional Powers who despise you - control you - who regiment your lives - tell you what to do - who to support - and then use you as cannon fodder in their community goals. Don’t give yourselves to these unnatural men - machine men with machine minds and machine hearts! You are not machines! You are not cattle! You are men! You have the love of humanity in your hearts! You don’t hate! Only the unloved hate - the unloved and the unnatural! Commanders! Don’t fight for war! Fight for another Millennium of Peace!
EIC fights for peace! If the Federation follows Patrons Principles into Liaden after this, we shall fight to kick the feds out and will fly along side Patrons Principles as well.

Grade 5 weapons do 2.5x the damage of a G1 weapon
Suit increase resistances, and base shields.
Both have [Grade-1] slots for modifications (grade 5 have space for 4 modifications). Odyssey engineers add this, you need a similar unlock like Horizons engineers. See the arrow between them, who unlock who.

No, I generally don't listen to the reddit/forum community. We chose to listen to their feedback regarding the heat meta to show them how hilariously little they knew about it when they said it was balanced.
PvP in this game is not griefing. It is literally advertised on the website. Read more at https://www.elitedangerous.com/en/gameplay/
>Greetings Commanders,
>For the past few weeks groups across the galaxy have been on high alert after our announcement of the Rise to Power.
>During this event players and groups will be battling it out to carve out an area of space and become an official power in the game, and by doing so, become immortalised in Elite Dangerous history.
>Five groups have already qualified for this contest by having the largest and most powerful player factions in the game. However, as well as these five groups, one additional group will enter this epic contest as our wildcard. To be chosen as the wildcard they will need to demonstrate themselves as the people’s choice.
>To begin, the entire community will be voting on their choice and the top five groups will then go on to compete against each other in a series of Community Goals to determine our wildcard in the final games.
>YOU have the power to influence which groups progress, and which do not. What’s more, you also have the power to influence the games at every stage by taking part, supporting or hindering your chosen faction in the Community Goals.
>The first stage is now live. You can cast your vote for the group you would like to progress to the next stage HERE. However, please note you can only vote once and results will be announced after the poll ends on Tuesday 17 May at 10:00 BST. So make sure you know who you’re voting for before casting that important vote!
>It is each group’s job to ensure they are campaigning through every available avenue for your votes and making you aware of exactly what type of power they would try to represent. You can check out our FAQ here and our Contestants thread where we invite all the groups to give us more detail about their campaign and you can ask questions.
Am I missing something?
Every official outlet is saying Horizon is a SEASON of expansions, with planetary landings being the first
>ELITE DANGEROUS: HORIZONS IS A NEW SEASON OF MAJOR GAMEPLAY EXPANSIONS FOR ELITE DANGEROUS, BEGINNING WITH PLANETARY LANDINGS ACROSS THE ELITE DANGEROUS GALAXY.
> and Federation
Oh, you mean where a corporate super PAC based around Core Dynamics is currently funding the private fleet of a rogue admiral, a power-hungry Shadow President who advocates for full conscription and war with the Empire, and the assassination of the previous Vice-President? That Federation?
Yeah, looks a lot more peaceful!
Alliance is where it's at.
Another interesting bit is that Silver Allied Network is based in Torval's sphere of influence. Were they working together? Or is one of them trying to frame the other?
The plot thickens.
actually if you've bothered to read any of the E:D lore/dev notes, you would know that what I say is true, and you are being stupid to be so rash.
Here's some words from the game's lead designer: "The escape pod transports the commander back to the last station that they docked at" https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=5323
Also, in case you don't like to trust forums, here's what is displayed on the official game site: "When your ship is destroyed, your escape pod will be recovered to the last station you docked at." https://www.elitedangerous.com/faqs
They aren't Dodecahedron, the are Cuboctahedron . The mistake is even present on the main site
It matches my experience, and the FAQ on Frontier's site:

So I noticed there's news-like articles in the launcher.
Example, one takes me to this.
https://www.elitedangerous.com/news/galnet/article/terrorist-bombing-federal-starport
Is this like a made-up developer-run news feed?
Or are these player events that the developers have made into news articles?
Here you go: https://www.elitedangerous.com/odyssey/
The first developer diary is also out, which gives the first glimpses into a few of the features. It can be found on YouTube.
Currently it's ongoing story. You can choose to take part in it (and even impact its outcome), or completely ignore it and do your thing. The galaxy is all yours.
It's a relatively new thing, personally I haven't played the game in years so can't really tell how's it. https://www.elitedangerous.com/news/article/interstellar-initiative-bridging-gap-begins/
I would say get a feel for the game first. If you like it, and plan to play for a long time, I would say yes. Engineers in particular is important, if you want to PvP, but the different module upgrades have perks for non combat roles too.
I personally love ship launched fighters when playing solo, if you have a friend he can also pilot the fighter in multicrew.
SRV is cool I guess, but never really got into it myself.
It's more like player inspired factions. There's a form you could fill out to request that a minor faction for your player group be added to the game.
The devs take stuff like a name, description, what type of economy they'd work with, and plug it into the game's Background Simulation. Afterward, things will play out just like it is with other minor factions.
I've edited the post to include the best archive links I can but the ED site seems to have got some anti-archive code making https://web.archive.org/web/20190127161421/https://www.elitedangerous.com/features/fight/ throw an error. Is there a better archive service that I should use?
they have gm'd community goals before so why not game narative?
they do literally list the community stuff as a selling point of the game https://www.elitedangerous.com/en/community/
Right here: https://www.elitedangerous.com/

What is the Elite Dangerous: Horizons Season Pass? Updated: Sunday 21st May 2017
The Elite Dangerous: Horizons Season Pass gives you access to all updates in the Horizons DLC season of content.
This includes the updates for Horizons that have not yet been released as detailed here: https://www.elitedangerous.com/en/seasons/
You must own the base game (Elite Dangerous) in order to play the Elite Dangerous: Horizons Season Pass.
If you purchased Elite Dangerous: Horizons before 5th February 2016, this product is exactly the same as the Elite Dangerous: Horizons Season Pass.
> I think we should take a moment to just appreciate the sheer amount of effort that was put into the world-building and lore of Dishonored and Dishonored 2.
The lore is the main reason why I love Dishonored and Dishonored 2.
In my opinion, if a game has amazing and we'll developed lore, it is a great game. A well developed world makes it feel real.
I would say my favourite game is Elite: Dangerous. The lore for the world (or galaxy in this case) is very well developed and has a long and detailed history. Many people find this game boring, but I find it amazing because it feels real to me. I feel like I can live in Elite's galaxy.
Frontier Developments knows they have 'failed' if they can't bring ED to PSVR. They state this on their website, 'Made for VR' https://www.elitedangerous.com/ ... thus it is obvious it belongs on PSVR too. It is a performance struggle for sure, and a proper PS4 version is a necessity. This PS4 version is now imminent, thus the road is open for working on the PSVR extension. I'm pretty sure that is the plan.
Probably the PS4 OG struggles, but I'm curious about how it performs on the PRO. If it does perform on the PRO, then the matter is delicate. What can FD do, what will Sony do. That is the question.
I got a golden Asp, couple of Cobra skins and a [chrome Eagle for a CG](https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/316941-Festive-Appeal-(Rares) , i might have got more but thats what i remember now, cant check ingame atm. And i dont even do CGs and stuff for cosmetics. So yea, we get free skins from time to time.
Edit: also don't forget to set your special day, you might get something for free on that one.
I have that stick... works great, and also this is the one game I did not purchase from Oculus Home, purchase this one direct from https://www.elitedangerous.com/ and you will get the keys you need for Oculus Home and Steam
The Fuel Rats are a group of volunteers associated with the computer game Elite Dangerous (https://www.elitedangerous.com)
Fuel is a resource to be managed by players who play Elite Dangerous. It's possible to strand yourself with no fuel.
The Fuel Rats are players who have equipped their ships to deliver fuel to those stranded Pilots.
Since June 2015, we have rescued over 20,000 such pilots.
I love ED, great game, but this is really a shot from FD in their own leg, especially since the ED Website states "Made for VR" as one of 6 navigation points.
Pretty disappointed by this... my hope was that patch 2.1 coupled with the Oculus release will make ED great again after the Horizons release was such a flop.
Now I need to accept this and I hope EVE:Valkyrie will be really great (and have Hotas support at release), but I haven't seen anything so far from Valkyrie that had me really blown away :-/ (fingers crossed for Oculus Game Days 13-15th of March)
edit: typo
They have already stated you can do that... several times.. Even on the live stream about how the planets are generated...
Even says this on the product page too.
>Players will explore new worlds, coasting over mountaintops, diving into canyons, landing on the surface and rolling out onto the surface in your SRV
As far as a remember you cannot switch weapons on the training missions. Each one is to give you a feel of how they work in combat.
> my ship was overheating I didn't know what to do about it
Stop firing. Lazers produce a lot of heat, use them sparingly in short bursts. Guns do more damage, and produce more heat but are weaker against shields. As for the HUD this might clear things up.
> For starters I have no idea what the premise of the game is besides shooting stuff.
It its an open world space game. You can take you ship of into space and do what you want with it, including piracy, assassinations, bounty hunting, mercenary, trading, smuggling, mining and exploring. I recommend looking at you tube videos of bounty hunting, trading and exploring to get an idea of gameplay. There is also an ongoing background world, with changing news and factions. You can read some of the news here. This game is less console flight sim, with set pieces and on going story. And more doing what you like. Only thing is you will at times feel quit out of your depth.
From E:D FAQ
>In the repair screen, there is an option for Ship Integrity. What is it?
>
> Ship Integrity represents the overall wear and tear your ship has accrued whilst traversing the galaxy. It represents the over time stresses and strains put upon your ship, and requires a specific kind of engineering to diagnose and fix. If left unchecked, this will affect your ships overall hull strength.
>
>The cost of repairing your ships integrity is based on the size of the hull and the amount of wear, so keeping tabs on it is advised to avoid a large bill.
It is not part of the modules unfortunately. I agree that is silly, and a pain, to have it hidden like it is. It is not intuitive at all.
Sorry about the confusion. The Lave cluster is chaotic and a mess usually with lots of Pirates.
Lugh and Mikunn are not.
The Lugh system was adopted by a player group with a bit of Irish RP (Lugh Crimson State Group) that wanted to push the Federation out, and make it independent. They worked hard on it, then Frontier ran 8(!) community goals relating to the war they created. The war was successful, and the system became independent. They still hang out there and try to expand it and rebuild. You will likely be welcome there if you act anti-Fed / pro independent and ask what you can do to help.
Mikunn is a system on the very very edge of inhabited space, and started as a very tiny outpost. Players picked out a cool sounding independent NPC faction "Dukes of Mikunn" and decided they should run the place, and then expand into other systems. They have been working on this since beta. A few small local civil wars and alot of commodity shipping later, they have succeeded in both goals to my knowledge. Recently Frontier ran a community goal for them to gather metals to construct a station in uninhabited space. Was successful, but the station is still under construction. They will certainly welcome you if you show up or contact them on the forum and ask how you can help.
Current main plotline: Imperial Senator Denton Patreus is waging war on the independent system of Quivira. His first attack was pushed back, but he's going to return shortly with Imperial cap ships and start a new war. Expect Imperial and anti-Imperial combat community goals in or around Quivira shortly.
https://www.elitedangerous.com/en/galnet/uid/2bcf9fda9e905c87370e36e8f3d3173d774d4b13
Galnet: >Deep in the heart of the Empire, a handful of nations stand defiantly independent from their neighbours.
>One such nation is Quivira. Home to 37.5 million residents, Quivira has managed to maintain its independence by acting as a major supplier of industrial goods to its neighbours.
>Early last year Quivira suffered from a period of deep recession, during which time it took out a series of bridge loans with Silver Universal Plc . A recent increase in rates left the People’s Quivira for Equality Party unable to pay off their debts, a fact which has caused the system to become the victim of legal action carried out on behalf of Senator Patreus.
>Quivira Electronics Plc, an Imperial corporation, has now been authorised to actively reclaim the debt owed to Senator Patreus by the system’s current leadership. As a first step towards that goal, Quivira Electronics Plc has taken ownership of Stepledon Dock. With the Senator’s blessing, Quivira Electronics is now hiring freelance reclamation agents to help extract the remaining debt.
>In response, the People’s Quivira for Equality Party have set up a defence fund with the Bank of Zaonce, the contents of which will be paid out to any independent pilots who come to Quivira’s aid in its time of need. The defence of Quivira is being organised aboard Godel Dock.
Google says they're a player group. I don't know if they're named after an in game faction. Looks to me like they're being set up: >We know Patreus runs Silver Universal Plc and Torval runs Silver Allied Network.
"According to forensic accountants working on behalf of Princess Lavigny-Duval, the evidence suggests that rogue members of Silver Allied Network channelled funds for the attack through Silver Universal Plc. The credits were then sent to an account in the HR 706 system" Galnet
I'd like a picture of that: Aisling looked stunning in a lace red dress with matching accessories.
Edit:
And now this: Aisling was dressed in an unusually demure, long necked, floor length red gown with flowing sleeves.
This might help, though i've not read it, was floating around at the top of the pile a couple of days back.
CG's are community goals, and they are usually mentioned though not expllcitly in the Galnet news. Example
For trading its a fairly simple case of buy low, sell high ! You just have to work out where the best prices are. Demand plays a factor but this table of whats generally bought and sold where (by economy type) might help you get your head around it a bit.
Dude come check out Elite Dangerous
It's a space sim that lets you fly around the universe and do what you want.
Make cargo deliveries, explore solar systems, go bounty hunting for pirates, be a pirate. Etc.
No fixed story line. The subreddit has more info
Elite:Dangerous. It's an open world space rpg.
It's not on steam at the moment but here is a link : https://www.elitedangerous.com/
A gameplay video of the game : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7MTCLlszk5k
Have fun with it.

Sorry, my 1st post was a bit cheeky. For a good beginner's resource try www.lavewiki.com or the hints/tutorials section of www.galnetnews.com
The 'being dropped in with no guidance ' thing is part of what many people love, a big part of the enjoyment comes from the steep learning curve, figuring out the world for yourself.
But i agree that they could explain many concepts more clearly, most people end up relying on external information to learn what should be straightforward tasks.
The game has quite a few problems with longevity atm but as to "what do do" and "how to do it" maybe their website will help.
I figured out the game pretty quickly on my own without the tutorial but i guess i kinda understood games like this from previous games I've played.
https://www.elitedangerous.com/guide/ I never read the guide but maybe it'll be helpful.
Yep, got Elite a few weeks ago. If you like space-sims in the vein of the "X" series or Freelancer you will like it. I play it with a stick (X52 pro) and it's really great. Some say it feels a bit empty but Frontier is (or at least they say they will) adding new stuff, like walking around in your ship an landing on planets. All in all it feels extremely polished an I would recommend it.
Feel free to read their official website, specifically the tutorial videos and com on over /r/EliteDangerous.
There's an official sidewinder owners manal and a quick start guide You can find the combat zones in super cruise, they exist in conflict systems usually near certain orbiting bodies and will appear as you get close. To start with, try flying very close to Eranin 2 you'll find a federal distress beacon and a high-intensity combat zone.
>“But there are rumours of a change of plans for phase three, which may be early next year. It is believed that Brewer Corporation is revising its plans based on the unexpectedly high levels of participation from the galactic community.”
>
>“In support of this, one company insider did reveal that more engineered frame shift drives are being manufactured, to be offered as incentives to contributing pilots in the third phase.”

Won't be able to crack it without a key. You need to search for a key, not try to crack this on its own:
“Unfortunately the message has been encrypted using a pre-arranged cipher key, without which its contents are unreadable. It is unclear why this wasn’t transmitted via the NMLA’s dark-comms network, which remains undetectable despite our best efforts.”
https://www.elitedangerous.com/news/galnet/manhunt-theta-seven-escalates
I assume the key is revealed somewhere in-game or related sites.
Correct, both of this week's CG completed early
There is only ever one or two CGs at a time, and they happen MOST weeks, starting on Thursdays. Pay attention to https://www.elitedangerous.com/community/goals/ if you want to participate.
Last time I got that bug I went to https://www.elitedangerous.com and logged in with my SteamID. Whatever backend disconnect causes this issue got pistol-whipped into behaving afterwards. Hopefully that works!
It was last in HIP 16538, as it says in the Galnet article about the disappearance:
>The Aegis-owned megaship triggered an attack by Thargoid vessels when it travelled from the Delphi system to HIP 16538 on the 20th of May.
