The update comes out whenever it comes out, agreed. But if the team is not going to communicate, then messages like this one that they themselves put out don't seem genuine. Just because they are a small studio does not exempt them from what I think is a fair criticism: they said they would be more open and more outwardly communicative, and they are not. I've never asked for them to release it early, or to announce a release date, and I think implying anybody here is demanding they immediately release the update is being disingenuous. The larger complaint is not a desire for the update to drop, but for Hello Games to simply provide information on WHAT we are waiting for.
You announce a release window for summer, then by summer you need to provide more information if not a release date. This is standard for all forms of media. If Hello Games is running into some problems, by all means delay the update: but TELL US so we're on the same page. If you announce a release window and then, by that time you've announced, you still have no new information to go on, it comes off as being unprepared and disorganized. It's a bad look, and one I think HG doesn't need to have if they just say something.
Nobody I've seen is demanding an update come out this minute. Everybody I've talked to about it just want HG to talk to us like they said that they would, even if it means being given bad news. Please don't pretend that players are being entitled when we were actually told that the team would talk to us.
> Glitches in the simulation have begun to appear. Visualised by strange floating orbs, up to 16 players can see and communicate with one another, and explore the universe together. While interaction with others is currently very limited, this is an important first step into the world of synchronous co-op in No Man’s Sky. While interaction is very limited, VOIP (Voice over IP) allows proximity based voice chat with other nearby explorers. Use portals to quickly travel to more populated planets, or to meet up with friends.

"Today we’re releasing Patch 1.31 on PS4, and it will follow soon on Steam. This fixes a number of issues including:"
For those worried about microtransactions, it seems as if everyone forgot what was said in the patch notes:
"Soon after the release of No Man’s Sky NEXT, Hello Games has planned its first season of weekly content and community events.
This will be free for all players, with no microtransactions."
The way patches work is they have to go through CERT (Certification) to make sure the patch wont brick your console, so it goes through heavy testing. 1.52 is live as of July 27. 1.52.1 Was Sent to CERT July 30th, it takes few days to process. 1.53 was sent today so it will take another few days. You'll get your updates whenever Microsoft/Sony clear CERT.
Looks like Xbox is actually behind, on getting 1.52. Microsoft takes longer than sony it seams.
Not really sure...
People are getting some feedback, from time to time, to support tickets... but it looks like they're basically auto generated messages. I mean, there could be a guy managing that, but I really doubt an entire support team.
Regarding the community aspect, i guess it's a lie. I mean, with all the money they made you could hire someone for a few hundreds bucks to post some stuff on their blog to show that, you know, they still care about their community... I mean, even not talking about future development they could post stuff like:
... stuff that basically every other game dev team is already doing
EDIT: Exclusive video of the community team first action with Sean https://giphy.com/gifs/XFHusFxNdOGHe
What do you mean? Sean Murray confirmed that VR will become part of the game with the Beyond update for free, and VR players will be able to play with non-VR players.
NMS is a wonderful game of exploration and discovery, you should be able to enjoy it too. Please send the same post to the help center on the NMS website (https://www.nomanssky.com/next-update).
ATM the devs are working on patches for the latest update, but I really think that they'll be happy to provide you with advice as soon as NEXT is stable.
Welcome, new interloper!
HERE IS A COUNTDOWN to the interview.
All you need to see is the countdown to know when it is going to start.
Interesting sidenote: Speedtree middleware logo used to appear on one of the game's old box art. Speedtree is a middleware focused on generating trees and forests that appear in a lot of games today.
The trees in NMS today aren't Speedtree trees - they're trees HG created on their own. HG's trees are still entirely procedural but not as procedural as the ones generated by Speedtree middleware. The differences are not so important though but let's just say - Speedtree relies more on algorithm so it can be stretched to create way more variations of trees than humanly possible. HG's trees uses the game's reference system and heavily relies on an artist's discretion for it to create diversity.
For most part, the trees in NMS are generally diverse enough - people just have to "stop by and smell the flowers" to actually see and appreciate the differences.
250+ base parts.
Parts now have foundation, middle and top variations.
A better building interface.
Can now place objects in air (much easier to build "orbital stations")
And some more smaller things.
i've no idea why you assume that.
Each update has had one major feature - Base Building, Exocraft, Storyline - and a ton of other smaller bits and pieces.
Why do people make any assumptions about NMS anymore. Just accept they drop feed us info, and make no assumptions. Wait and see.

Pilgrim Star is the location where st3amb0t became the first to circumnavigate a planet named Dudenbeaumodeme
I also completed this Pilgrimage in Survival Mode No HUD and documented it in my Shadow of a Pilgrim series plus I just recently went around a second planet in the Pilgrim Star system
During my journey I was able to get 10 people to join up at the Ocopad Conflux and so we built the second largest Hub in Euclid
Heads up, 1.31 is now live.
It doesn't address any of the issues I'm having, but it fixed some big problems for other people and more importantly it was out within 24 hours.
HG, you are doing great.
Hoping 1.32 Addresses base-building questline issues (and quest tracking/completion issues in general), inventory upgrade and management problems, and problems with Green Question Marks and White Scanned building markers.

History in the making as old multitools still exist albeit with slight paint jobs. Although 3D model animation on character looks like the legacy weapon
Hopefully the game I'm working on (Sol-Ark) will have its demo out in about a month. It's a bit of a mashup of FTL and Dwarf Fortress with a very malleable sandbox for ship construction. We're shooting for a very cool rts with real time space combat and crew combat complete with a solid story (which is my department) and that sort of jazz.
Oh, I've also been digging labyrinthine tunnels with my friends in 7 Days to Die. Their latest update sets some of the zombies on fire though.... :/

Like the guy who said it should only take a week for a programmer to add multiplayer to NMS because the game already knows all about your position and direction and stuff so all (s)he needs to do is send the information over the internet. facepalm
But we're in the instant-gratification society. Things have to happen NOW, or else!
Anybody serious should have a quick play with one of the game-generation toolkits out there. Or try Scratch - a completely graphical click-and-play environment - and use it to make Pong or Space Invaders and see how non-trivial even that is. Now imagine doing it from scratch (pun not intended) and making it work online.
I don't get it.. On steam, within the last 30 minutes, he posted

But on the no mans sky official website the pc patch notes were posted hours ago :P So is it soon, or within a week, or...?

The fine folks at GoG.com won't admit that NEXT exists.
Their customers don't just not have the update; we don't have any timeframe about it at all, or information about crossplay with Steam users.
I'm coping by grumbling about it on social media and by putting a second, Steam-enabled copy into a GreenManGaming cart and letting it time out because it's something I really shouldn't be paying for.

While the "Shared universe" referred to by the text did indeed refer to only discoveries at launch, the Atlas Rises update expanded this with by adding a "pseudo-multiplayer" feature called "Joint Exploration" (in addition to a boatload of other stuff).
>JOINT EXPLORATION
>* Glitches in the simulation have begun to appear.
>* Visualised by strange floating orbs, up to 16 players can see and communicate with one another, and explore the universe together.
>* While interaction with others is currently very limited, this is an important first step into the world of synchronous co-op in No Man’s Sky.
>* While interaction is very limited, VOIP (Voice over IP) allows proximity based voice chat with other nearby explorers.
>* Use portals to quickly travel to more populated planets, or to meet up with friends.
* "Joint Exploration" seems to me to have been a placeholder and a promise from the devs to the community that a) "yes, multiplayer is possible", and b) "yes, we're really working on it." I personally suspect that synchronous multiplayer will feature heavily in the upcoming update this summer.

You say "no shit" now but put "Not sure if intentional" in the title. And that info is still in the patch notes (and pretty visible), meaning you didn't bother reading them before posting
I mean that's cool if you want to share info, I wasn't even trying to be rude, but dude why try to act smart now lol
Not to seem ungrateful, but when NEXT came out they did say that they were "desperate to communicate better". Seems like they did for a short span of time and then went quiet again. :(
> The team has remained true to its vision (the design hasn’t changed much since the game’s inception, Murray claims) rather than seeking to accommodate the endless requests from players who want to see certain features implemented. While showing the game to members of the enthusiastic press, Murray has fielded requests that they make it possible for players to create buildings, communicate with aliens or implement land vehicles into the game. “It’s the reason we haven’t done things like Kickstarter,” Murray said. “There could be so much feature creep. A lot of other companies would have taken the interest, taken loads of investment, grown the team massively and so on. And of course, we did talk about things like that. But it felt like it wouldn’t work. We had an idea for a game and we may never be able to deliver on the hype. But we can deliver the game we set out to make. That has to be enough.”

That was in a single article with an unsourced quote before the game released in 2016, I remember.
But the official website says:
> "A little while after the release of No Man’s Sky NEXT, Hello Games has planned its first season of weekly content and community events. This will be free for all players, with no microtransactions."
Also, I can't find it now, but very recently (NEXT era) Sean did an interview and he said they would basically do whatever it takes to NOT have paid DLC.
The patch notes in the past have been much more detailed than the PS Blog post details we got. Just take a look at how massive (and beautiful) the Atlas Rises patch notes are. NEXT is supposed to be their big relaunch it would be absolutely insane not to put forth at least the same amount of content.
From Sean's blog post way back at update 1.03: "Temporal AA and my new cloud rendering tech should be coming soon too. It will really change the game again, and enhance it visually."
Temporal AA came not long after that, but we never got Sean's cloud rendering tech. Still hopeful it's coming. The WARE site's order page mentions "cloud rendering technology", so I don't know if that was an in-joke or a hint that the new cloud rendering is coming in NEXT.

Here's a link to my Python program, it is definitely a work in progress: https://repl.it/JkI4/54
You have to hit the run button (looks like a play button). This program is simply for getting information regarding the progress of the cities on project-wt.com. It parses the data on this page and tries to calculate about how far along we are in the calibration process. I provided one function that you can actually type input into, I hope to add more. Any suggestions on what might be some helpful data to include would be great! I might try to calculate the number of cities in specific regions/time zones based on coordinates and do some calculations on that... Could be fun!

I have this! You can see it in action here. Seriously one of the best buys I ever did, although the official software is kind of crap and I am using something called Ambibox instead.
OP's solution seems to have a bit of a delay, the fast changing colors are like half a second later reflected in the background light which the Lightpack doesn't do. Probably something that can be fixed though.
That's an odd situation. They claimed there was planetary rotation and they removed it because of play testers struggling to adjust to it. In the 1.03 patch notes (which were moved to a separate page from the rest of the Release Log, you either need a direct link or you need to google to find it, which is really sus..) They said they reduced the effect, but if you looked in the game files, there was never any rotation whatsoever in any playable version before, during, or after 1.03.
I really doubt they will implement planetary rotation.
Pretty much lol.. Play testers said when they would fly back into space the space station had disappeared. It’s mentioned very briefly in the 1.03 patch notes which was something like a week after release.
https://www.nomanssky.com/2016/08/update-1-03/
The notes say the rotation effect was reduced but there’s tons of threads from 2016 of people saying it was never in the actual game that was released. An interesting take in one thread was that maybe it is annoying having to figure out where everything is every time you leave a planet, and it might just be better without it to avoid the confusion and have better gameplay over a more realistic sim.
It wasn't about planet orbits, but planet rotation.
https://www.nomanssky.com/2016/08/update-1-03/
"Planet rotation – play testing has made it obvious people are struggling to adjust to this during play so it’s effects have been reduced further…"
That seems super unlikely to me. I feel like you're either not remembering correctly, lying for some reason, or didn't actually play very much of the game at all in your ridiculous speed run.
http://howlongtobeat.com/game.php?id=3340 This shows the average speed run of only the main quest at 7 hours 23 minute. A rushed main story + extras averages 36 hours. If you finished it in 8, you're claiming to have beaten the entire main story and a third of the side quests in a third of the time it takes an average player to beat just the main quest. Come on dude.
I think it's a sympton of the culture created by Kickstarter and Early Access. Everyone thinks that this is how games are made now. They all want direct input and direct interaction with the devs.
Here's a relevant quote:
> The team has remained true to its vision (the design hasn’t changed much since the game’s inception, Murray claims) rather than seeking to accommodate the endless requests from players who want to see certain features implemented. While showing the game to members of the enthusiastic press, Murray has fielded requests that they make it possible for players to create buildings, communicate with aliens or implement land vehicles into the game. “It’s the reason we haven’t done things like Kickstarter,” Murray said. “There could be so much feature creep. The website for the game is the best I know of.
That link has all the patch notes, and just so you know, the content updates are 'Foundation', 'Path Finder', and 'Atlas Rises' in that order. They all also have the trailers in their respective patch notes sections.
In short, I think the game is great. Granted, I always thought the game was great. But now I think it's double great. Here's a link to the official NMS website where you can find the patch notes to all three major updates and smaller updates as well;
Sounds like it's making the surface of things look realistic in how they would interact with light and be rendered. Like glossy, dull, translucent, blurred, etc.
In terms of NMS (or possibly just procedural generation in general) probably on the lines of generating a tree that has a very sappy trunk and then the graphics engine will know to make that surface more glossy and reflective but not mirror like because of the impurities.
Awesome stuff!
If you want to make your own here's a quick bit of javascript that you can modify:
<span id='countdown-nms' class="countdown"></span> <script type="text/javascript"> (function() { var f = function(n) { return n < 10 ? "0"+n : n } var out = function(d, h, m, s) { return f(d) + "d, " + f(h) + "h, " + f(m) + "m and " + f(s) + "s" } var el = document.getElementById('countdown-nms') var to = new Date("2016-08-10T00:00:00+0100") setInterval(function() { var diff = (to.getTime() - Date.now())/1000 if (diff > 0) { el.innerText = out( Math.floor(diff/3600/24), // Days Math.floor(diff/3600)%24, // Hours Math.floor(diff/60)%60, // Minutes Math.floor(diff%60) // Seconds ) } else { el.innerText = out(0, 0, 0, 0) } }, 1000) })() </script>
The date I've used is for the UK countdown so you might want to adjust it. If you're a Hugo user and you want to add countdowns to your theme, this code is just a modified version of a shortcode I wrote. Source here: https://github.com/nboughton/hugo_theme_robusted/blob/master/layouts/shortcodes/countdown.html
Mediocre fact: For Close Encounters of the Third Kind, the crew built the mothership landing site inside a huge blimp hanger in Mobile, AL. "Bigger than a football field and six times the size of the largest Hollywood sound stage, the hangar harbored its own climate, trapping humidity that sometimes caused clouds and precipitation during filming." (IMDB). I recall reading this in Bob Balaban's production diary from the period.

from this page: https://www.nomanssky.com/2018/07/no-mans-sky-next-trailer/
They are not the focus, they're always slightly off to the side, or only seen in a flash.
We've got:
Fish in an underwater scene (edit: this was actually one of the promo screenshots that shows them)
A more developed version of the "fiend" cave monster that was found in the files over a year ago. This is seen around ~~29~~ 25 seconds in, play on .25 speed. As far as I can tell, this is the only new creature/rig shown off.
A rodent like those found in caves right now.
A strider
The last two are both on the left side in the sentinel scene.
I am not sure, maybe cause they are just coinciding with the Atlas Rises update that allowed for people to communicate with each other? https://www.nomanssky.com/atlas-rises-update/
It was last year, but I guess fiscal year it carries through :P
It sounds like part of the Artemis quest line. IIRC, the missions to find Holo Terminuses (Termini?) should be in the same system (or really close by), not 3,000ly away! Did you move away from the system by mistake?
You should also be able to reset the location of the mission.
Also, this game is dumb in limiting the warp range when using the lines in the galactic map. In order to be able to make larger jumps in your freighter, you need to use the Free Explore mode and look in the direction of your target.
Do a search on the subreddit. Your questions have been answered in depth several hundred times in the last few months. You should find some good in depth opinions that way, with both the good and the bad (yes it's better, no it's not yet perfect).
There are also videos detailing the updates on https://www.nomanssky.com/
There have been two big updates plus a number of patches since release here are the release notes which summarise this: * https://www.nomanssky.com/foundation-update/ * https://www.nomanssky.com/pathfinder-update/
If the only thing in the next update is the buggy, I will be disappointed.
As far as the Reddit wall of text thing goes: One thing that can help is a Windows / Mac app called Texts. I definitely agree that Reddit’s Markdown is pretty arcane, and that WYSIWYG would be better. The only issue I have with texts is that you can’t adjust how the apostrophes work.Otherwise, it’s just like using a text editor, and when you copy from it, the result you get is Markdown.

something like dynalist is great for taking notes. more importantly is has a good search which is something HG probably wouldnt have if they let you add notes. not much good if you can take notes but never find them again!
i have it open on my phone or laptop most of the time when im playing and jot down a few notes when there is time to kill like flying between planets or waiting for a storm to blow over
this is the template i copy and paste when i get to a new system if youre interested https://dynalist.io/d/mJd71gKUP3XXowrBHmDpWHS- it probably seems a bit excessive but its helped a ton of times when i wanted to find a certain place and all i could remember was that it was a vykeen system, or that it had two moons or whatever
Doing this method you also get the 2nd allocation of Nanites from Helios on the Anomoly, not as many as from the discovery page but as nice passive addition.
This is for Flora, Fauna, Mineral and Planets they cycle in a daily basis and stack if you miss a day.
Some of the food items from cooking have high unit value too although some of the recipes are multi step and might be tedious for some.
Have a look through the catalogue on this app which will give values and raw ingredients required .
you will need the full version of KLWP to use this theme. it's a $3 app but definitely worth the price if you like customizing your home screen, if you want to see what it can do go check out r/androidthemes. once you have KLWP installed download the .klwp file I linked onto your phone. then go to the load preset tab in KLWP and tap the little file icon at the top. find were the .klwp file is on your phone load it in. the theme should now appear in the load presets tab. if it doesn't then just reopen KLWP and it will be there. load it in and hit the save icon at the top. it should now be your theme!
the way KLWP works is actually as an interactive live wallpaper. so for this theme to work properly make sure you only have one home screen with nothing on it.
for nova just set the notification bar and app dock to hidden so that you have a totally empty home screen. to access my app drawer i just use a nova action, in this case swipe up.
No word yet. We barely have any information, but Sean Murray did say "soon" about a week ago in an IGN interview.

Edit: I'll add this here at the top. The stream schedule changed, see /u/DeJeR's comment. I watched a lot of the stream, but got bored. Not even a mention of No Man's Sky. A few guys are still watching, I've asked them to let me know if anything happens. But this is to be expecting when you only go off speculation!

You already bought the game, so you own it. You have absolutely no risk in re-installing it and giving it a spin, other than your time.
Or you can go through the releases and see if there's anything that's interesting to you: https://www.nomanssky.com/release-log/
Instead of posting here, do a little bit of research on your own, man. No one here knows you like you know you, so no one here can tell you if it's worth returning to *for you*.
It wasn't about planet orbits, it was about planets rotation : https://www.nomanssky.com/2016/08/update-1-03/
"Planet rotation – play testing has made it obvious people are struggling to adjust to this during play so it’s effects have been reduced further…"

Altough he also said : " “When you're on a planet, you can see as far as the curvature of that planet. If you walked for years, you could walk all the way around it, arriving back exactly where you started. Our day to night cycle is happening because the planet is rotating on its axis as it spins around the sun. There is real physics to that. We have people that will fly down from a space station onto a planet and when they fly back up, the station isn't there anymore; the planet has rotated. People have filed that as a bug.”
So I don't know, I wish we could play the very first version of the game to compare.
Here's an example of them lying.. Does it fit your definition of lying?
They said they reduced planetary rotation in the patch notes of the 1.03 update when there wasn't any planetary rotation to reduce..
From their site.. https://www.nomanssky.com/2016/08/update-1-03/
You can play previous updates and there was no planetary rotation to reduce..
The VR announcement from the NMS homepage says: "We are excited for that moment when millions of players will suddenly update and be able to set foot on their home planets and explore the intricate bases they have built in virtual reality for the first time." - and to me, this still sounds like the will be no reset and we can simply update the game and experience everything we know in VR.

I might be wrong, but I still think this is the most hintful hint for "no reset" there could be 😅
1) Download the Cockpit Freelook mod from above
2) Extract the .dll and .ini to your NMS Binaries folder
3) Download x360ce and put the .exe in the same place
4) Run that .exe with EDtracker connected and x360ce should detect it automatically.
5) In "Controller settings" select EDTracker and next to it should be NMS.exe (or NMSE if you use NMSE for any mods). Click "save".
6) In "Controller 1" (which should be your EDTracker) it should be assigned to the right thumb stick of the xbox controller. You'll need to mess about with the sensitivity in the EDTracker program (I use exponential, maybe about 17/ 18 - looks very wrong in that program but works in game) and in the "right thumb" tab of x360ce to reduce the deadzone otherwise it feels weird. This step may need some testing in game to get it to feel right.
5) Save and close the x360ce program and fire up NMS. The headtracking should now work as a right thumb stick.
They are placeholders for a new cloud system, coming soon.
https://www.nomanssky.com/next-update/
‘Dynamic volumetric clouds create more realistic planetary atmospheres. Increased quality clouds will be rolling out in parity to all platforms very soon.’
Take a look at the patch notes because there's a lot of changes
The highlights tho are multiplayer, unlimited base building, a new fleet system added to the freighters that allows you to send ships on missions for you, rebalanced the economy, new items and many of the crafting recepies have been reworked, and yes 3rd person camera for both on foot and in your ship as well as much improved graphics
Gog is still listed on the buy page:
https://www.nomanssky.com/buy-now/
I'm happy to wait a while if the gog update is coming, but if they let gog customers wait in anticipation of the update when no update had even been developed just to try and smooth out the launch, that would represent cynicism of staggering proportions.
It too early to grab your torches and pitchforks though imo.
It seems that your comment contains 1 or more links that are hard to tap for mobile users. I will extend those so they're easier for our sausage fingers to click!

If you look on the no mans sky website, they clearly label Alien as the best, and I would say that experimental ones are just behind. "Pistols offer increased mining capabilities, Rifles provide combat advantages and Experimental weapons are attuned to scanning. The rarest and most powerful are Alien Multi-tools."
The No Man's Sky site itself even says they take you somewhere else in the galaxy. The only way to be disappointed by them is by expecting more from them when there is no basis for doing so.
With the tangible information we have, this, and nothing more, is what should be expected from portals. It's all we've ever seen a portal do in a trailer, and it's all HG has ever said they'd do.
Personally, I think it'll be awesome to have another way to traverse the galaxy which requires the sacrifice of my ship and an increase in risk-taking opportunities.
edit: You said to contain my hype. This is what that looks like. If you disagree, tell me why, don't just downvote because you're upset that I'm being objective here.
Been saving this for a longer post, but, here is the "Super Formula" mentioned in the NMS New Yorker article as visualized in the online graphing calculator Desmos with time-varying coefficients: graph and wiki entry
I looked it up after reading the New Yorker article and used it to get my high school math students pumped on learning polar coodinates. It was a real world discovery by a Dutch scientist to describe the shapes of plants and other biology. It's an absolute value equation in polar coordinates with both sin and cos functions. A simple formula that can produce millions of shapes by slightly tweaking the coefficients. Layer enough such formulas intelligently, and voila, No Man's Sky.
I joined the No Mans Sky Amino hub on the Amino app recently and its been one of the best experiences Iv had in the game. Im not very active but watching folks sharing locations, tips, and just all around sharing casual conversation in the game has been an all around great time. I highly recommend a quick glance when you get a chance.
For this farm if all of these trading pictures look funny to you, you might want to consider spamming manufacturing posts to gain blueprints. Once you have all the blue prints shown above its time to get started. I recommend having a Hauler (or something with major slots) for storage. You might want to have items to craft MULTIPLE nomads as the initial startup for this farm is lengthy. This will help speed things up along with having a permanent ride on that planet for the future. This rest is quite self explanatory id say, here is the link for specifications:
Huge shoutout to user normi1701 for the post!
You're looking for the Ocopadica region and this video should help even though it's quite old lol https://youtu.be/fIPpR0hw49U
Also wondering if you've checked out the Amino Hub community app http://aminoapps.com/c/nms-the-amino-hub
Our members there can also help direct you where to go
Welcome to the Amino Hub
1: , during installation choose client and NOT admin tools. When the program has started double-click on VPN Gate Public VPN Relay Servers, accept the notice and a list of vpns shows up, pick a country and click on Connect to the VPN server.
2: , download the client and use the trial account details on the right side of the site. The passwords change often so check back if you can't login. Users with same IP address can use these accounts 3 times per day. Online time for each free trial VPN connection is limited to 20 minutes. When the time limit is reached, please wait for 5 minutes to reconnect
TIL criticizing a game for being falsely advertised for 4 years, missing a lot of those features, and taking this long to be just a copy of Out There on android by Mi Clos, with a 3d screenshot generator on top of it = hate.
