Big Ole update that adds the multiplayer, adds a 3rd person view, emotes, additions and improvements to base building, bunch of other neat stuff. It's finally become the game they said it'd be, only took em 2 years and it was very much worth the wait.
Here are the patch notes for the update.
https://www.nomanssky.com/2018/07/a-message-to-the-community/
The update comes out whenever it comes out, agreed. But if the team is not going to communicate, then messages like this one that they themselves put out don't seem genuine. Just because they are a small studio does not exempt them from what I think is a fair criticism: they said they would be more open and more outwardly communicative, and they are not. I've never asked for them to release it early, or to announce a release date, and I think implying anybody here is demanding they immediately release the update is being disingenuous. The larger complaint is not a desire for the update to drop, but for Hello Games to simply provide information on WHAT we are waiting for.
You announce a release window for summer, then by summer you need to provide more information if not a release date. This is standard for all forms of media. If Hello Games is running into some problems, by all means delay the update: but TELL US so we're on the same page. If you announce a release window and then, by that time you've announced, you still have no new information to go on, it comes off as being unprepared and disorganized. It's a bad look, and one I think HG doesn't need to have if they just say something.
Nobody I've seen is demanding an update come out this minute. Everybody I've talked to about it just want HG to talk to us like they said that they would, even if it means being given bad news. Please don't pretend that players are being entitled when we were actually told that the team would talk to us.
> Glitches in the simulation have begun to appear. Visualised by strange floating orbs, up to 16 players can see and communicate with one another, and explore the universe together. While interaction with others is currently very limited, this is an important first step into the world of synchronous co-op in No Man’s Sky. While interaction is very limited, VOIP (Voice over IP) allows proximity based voice chat with other nearby explorers. Use portals to quickly travel to more populated planets, or to meet up with friends.
Near the bottom: https://www.nomanssky.com/atlas-rises-update/
Since launch we've had 3 mayor updates (including this), that has added a whole lot of content like base building, land vehicles, freighters and a whole lot more. The game has changed quite a lot for the better.
Here's the updates you've missed.
Foundation Update (1.1) :https://www.nomanssky.com/foundation-update/
Pathfinder Update (1.2): https://www.nomanssky.com/pathfinder-update/
Atlas Rises Update (1.3): https://www.nomanssky.com/atlas-rises-update/
I can't really list them all.
But the major ones are:
And much more...
Atlas update: https://www.nomanssky.com/atlas-rises-update/
Pathfinder update: https://www.nomanssky.com/pathfinder-update/
Foundation update: https://www.nomanssky.com/foundation-update/
The NEXT update its pretty huge, all kinds of new features and multiplayer if i'm correct. They really made this game good over the past years.. here a link to the NEXT blog: https://www.nomanssky.com/2018/07/no-mans-sky-next-trailer/
It's been patched a few times, improving the existing game and adding new stuff.
https://www.nomanssky.com/news/
It's still nothing like what was shown pre-release but it's definitely better today.
Eh, depends. Ironically 1 year out NMS put out Atlas Rises which more or less hit what they initially promised.
But the consensus was that year 2 of NMS, NEXT, was the bread winner that turned things around. Every year after that has just been gravy.
So maybe next year for Cyberpunk?
I'll be honest as a long-time fan. They've added a lot of good content. Hello Games have released free update after free update. They added a storyline, base-building, and a whole slew of other stuff (you can check it out here: https://www.nomanssky.com/). Do I feel that much of the exploration that I bought it for was marginalized in the process? Yes. Luckily, the NEXT update coming on Tuesday shows improvement in generation that is going to be wonderful for exploration (improved terrain, fauna, and flora).
Generally full patch notes are posted here when ready: https://www.nomanssky.com/release-log/
If anything I'd argue that letting devs at the helm of communication killed the NMS marketing. Sean Murray seemed authentic and honestly hyped for the game but ended up talking up tons of features that didn't make the 1.0 release.

You can't deny the amount of work Hello Games has put into this, the game has improved significantly since it's release in 2016, and it's still ongoing!
For those worried about microtransactions, it seems as if everyone forgot what was said in the patch notes:
"Soon after the release of No Man’s Sky NEXT, Hello Games has planned its first season of weekly content and community events.
This will be free for all players, with no microtransactions."
The NMS devs "unofficially" sort of support Linux. They've released patches in the past that address Linux issues. For example - https://www.nomanssky.com/2019/08/beyond-patch-2-08a/ >Fixed Steam VR in Linux.
Linux certainly isn't a primary platform for them, but they do seem to keep an eye on it.
The way patches work is they have to go through CERT (Certification) to make sure the patch wont brick your console, so it goes through heavy testing. 1.52 is live as of July 27. 1.52.1 Was Sent to CERT July 30th, it takes few days to process. 1.53 was sent today so it will take another few days. You'll get your updates whenever Microsoft/Sony clear CERT.
Looks like Xbox is actually behind, on getting 1.52. Microsoft takes longer than sony it seams.
What do you mean? Sean Murray confirmed that VR will become part of the game with the Beyond update for free, and VR players will be able to play with non-VR players.
NMS is a wonderful game of exploration and discovery, you should be able to enjoy it too. Please send the same post to the help center on the NMS website (https://www.nomanssky.com/next-update).
ATM the devs are working on patches for the latest update, but I really think that they'll be happy to provide you with advice as soon as NEXT is stable.
Welcome, new interloper!
The other comment sounds flippant but it really has improved quite a lot, with headline features like basebuilding and exocrafts but also in a number of subtle but fundamental ways, like revamping terrain generation, resource distribution, and crafting recipes.
I would recommend looking at the update pages on their website: Foundation and Pathfinder
It is worth $30 easily. It has multiplayer already, the promised features have been implemented, and many more features have been added. Since release the game has grown substantially.
They've added stuff like base construction, quests, freighters, frigates, freighter bases, planetary bases (anywhere now), portals, community events, a real story, enhanced graphics, vehicles, archeology, character customization, a bunch more biomes including improved underwater biomes, a great photo mode, and more that I cannot think of currently.

Just watch the videos for the named patches (Foundation, Path Finder, Atlas Rises, Next, The Abyss, and Visions): https://www.nomanssky.com/release-log/
The game was a buggy unplayable mess at launch and deserved every bit of criticism it received yet IMO calling it anything short of good now is disingenuous.
250+ base parts.
Parts now have foundation, middle and top variations.
A better building interface.
Can now place objects in air (much easier to build "orbital stations")
And some more smaller things.
i've no idea why you assume that.
Each update has had one major feature - Base Building, Exocraft, Storyline - and a ton of other smaller bits and pieces.
Why do people make any assumptions about NMS anymore. Just accept they drop feed us info, and make no assumptions. Wait and see.

Multiplayer
Team up a small team of friends and explore the universe together, or be joined by random travelers. You can help friends to stay alive, or prey on others to survive. Tiny shelters or complex colonies that you build as a team are shared for all players. Fight as a pirate or a wingman in epic space battles with friends and enemies. Race exocraft across weird alien terrains, creating race tracks and trails to share online. Character customisation allows you to personalise your appearance.
Pretty much, they went radio silent for a bit but released this update after a few weeks.
In my mind the issue isn't their post launch support or communication but 100% the bullshit they spewed pre-launch.

>Update 3.5, Prisms, dramatically refreshes the No Man’s Sky experience with a range of new visual features and technologies. The universe has never looked better, with reflections, new texture effects, more biome detail, improved lighting, new skies, new warp effects, creature fur, and a host more besides.
1) Can't be the drive. SSD are useful just for loading times. And with an ssd i registered a nice impact on how much time i need to load NMS. No improvement in how well i can run it in therm of FPSs.
2) Your CPU is fine imo, not the best neither the worst
3) You have the same GPU as me, i found a great improvement using VULKAN APIs, if you didn't try them already, you can download them here as BETA on steam.
3.How) Go to your steam library, right click on NMS and set your beta key to: 3xperimental

Try them, i went from 10/40fps to a more stable 30/60fps
Heads up, 1.31 is now live.
It doesn't address any of the issues I'm having, but it fixed some big problems for other people and more importantly it was out within 24 hours.
HG, you are doing great.
Hoping 1.32 Addresses base-building questline issues (and quest tracking/completion issues in general), inventory upgrade and management problems, and problems with Green Question Marks and White Scanned building markers.
No Man's Sky is a single player experience game. There is no objective, no end game, no stage, no boss fights. Just get out there and explore.

It doesn’t directly state “move controllers”, but why would it tout “unprecedented control”, reaching anf grabbing things, or fist bumping PSVR peers while casually waving at non-vr friends?

Ask and you shall receive: "Fixed an issue where Korvax eye textures would become misaligned."
They released this three weeks after release: > ... What matters now, as always, is what we do rather than what we say. We’re developers, and our focus is first on resolving any issues people have with the game as it is, then on future free updates which will improve, expand and build on the No Man’s Sky universe.
I get that it's not as explicit or apologetic as some would like, but it was clear that they planned to shut up and not release another feature list until they actually had their next big feature update ready to go.
Their next (non-patch-notes) news post after that was about 3.5 months later, and was shortly followed by a fairly big update and release notes.
Hello Games got into a lot of trouble of bullet-point lists of features before that point. It was probably good to hold off on releasing those "concrete plans" in this case.
Read these two articles from the No Man's Sky website:

First of all I am not sure if this has always been the case, but the nms logo on https://www.nomanssky.com/press/ is flickering in a wt kind of style aswell. Source image: https://nmswp.azureedge.net/wp-content/uploads/2017/02/animated-logo-red.gif
If you change 'red' to 'blue' you get this: https://nmswp.azureedge.net/wp-content/uploads/2017/02/animated-logo-blue.gif
I tried some other colors aswell, but got 404 errors on them. Just a further connection between nms and WT, maybe hinting at a press release soon?
In the patch notes they mention improved cross-platform cloud saves. I wonder if that means proper cross save between the PS5 version and PSVR (PS4) version?
I don't get it.. On steam, within the last 30 minutes, he posted
>Update 1.3 will release this week and will be available for free to all No Man’s Sky players. We’re calling it Atlas Rises. It focuses on improving the central story of No Man’s Sky and adds the ability to quick travel between locations using portals. Patch notes will be made available shortly before the update goes live.
But on the no mans sky official website the pc patch notes were posted hours ago :P So is it soon, or within a week, or...?

It is, if chill exploring is your kind of thing.
They updated their game really good and added such things as base building, vehicles, freighters and about 30 hours of new story (which is meh to be honest).
The gameplay loop is still repetitiv. Gather ressources, use them to travel forward as much as you can to the center of the universe, gather more. Or use your base to grow plants which give you ressources or use vehicles to harvest planets.
To be honest, I'm very excited for the new update NEXT. Which is going to add a full multiplayer. Check it out [ https://www.nomanssky.com/next-update/ ](here).
well, that's the thing. We don't know and i misspoke, they didn't mention RPG elements, only MMO. (https://www.nomanssky.com/2019/03/no-mans-sky-beyond/) After launch, Hello Games refuses to go into specifics until things are set in stone.
It didn't flop, it actually sold quite well, the game wasn't the best and lot of people were let down. The reason why people are posting it now is because they basically changed the game with a big ole update that adds multiplayer, a third person view, emotes, additions and improvements to base building, reworks to materials, and alot of other neat stuff. It's finally become the game they said it'd be and it was very much worth the wait.
Here are the patch notes for the update if you're interested.
While the "Shared universe" referred to by the text did indeed refer to only discoveries at launch, the Atlas Rises update expanded this with by adding a "pseudo-multiplayer" feature called "Joint Exploration" (in addition to a boatload of other stuff).
>JOINT EXPLORATION
>* Glitches in the simulation have begun to appear.
>* Visualised by strange floating orbs, up to 16 players can see and communicate with one another, and explore the universe together.
>* While interaction with others is currently very limited, this is an important first step into the world of synchronous co-op in No Man’s Sky.
>* While interaction is very limited, VOIP (Voice over IP) allows proximity based voice chat with other nearby explorers.
>* Use portals to quickly travel to more populated planets, or to meet up with friends.
* "Joint Exploration" seems to me to have been a placeholder and a promise from the devs to the community that a) "yes, multiplayer is possible", and b) "yes, we're really working on it." I personally suspect that synchronous multiplayer will feature heavily in the upcoming update this summer.
The closest he's come to admitting it is saying, with regard to the pre-release period, "I made mistakes". Some people find that satisfactory, some don't. I find it a bit weak, personally. Ultimately, I don't really care about what Sean says now. I care much more about what he and his development team actually put out, and since release, they've basically just shut up and worked their asses off.
https://www.nomanssky.com/2018/07/a-message-to-the-community/
"A little while after the release of No Man’s Sky NEXT, Hello Games has planned its first season of weekly content and community events. This will be free for all players, with no microtransactions."
Get your nose checked.
> they didnt talk or tweet anything for like 6 months lol
This is bullshit. Stop spreading misinformation. All you have to do is pull up their blog. The first month had several posts about bug fixes. Then in November, around 3 months after launch, they announced the Foundation Update.
The patch notes and nearly every website out there. Specifically refers to 'the first season of weekly updates planned.' https://www.nomanssky.com/next-update/ and search in page for "weekly" and you'll find it.
Not everyone hated it, a large group of core players have been playing and loving it ever since. NEXT brings fully fleshed out and customizable character models with 2-4 co-op play. That is just one of many new significant updates and improvements. https://www.nomanssky.com/2018/07/no-mans-sky-next-trailer/
Yup. The game's had that sort of multiplayer since the huge Atlas Rises update, which came out in August of last year. And the two updates before that added a lot too, including base-building and some pretty fun ground vehicles. Neither of those features were "promised for launch", tmk, but they're excellent improvements and I'm glad they took priority.
Proper multiplayer is very exciting and is far more than they'd discussed around release. I assume "team based" multiplayer means you can intentionally meet up and run around together. That's way more exciting than the current extremely-unlikely-meetup situation.
"As this is our fifth anniversary year, we have some other surprises up our sleeves, with more information coming very soon."
https://www.nomanssky.com/2021/05/beachhead-expedition-update/?cli_action=1621606434.17
You say "no shit" now but put "Not sure if intentional" in the title. And that info is still in the patch notes (and pretty visible), meaning you didn't bother reading them before posting
I mean that's cool if you want to share info, I wasn't even trying to be rude, but dude why try to act smart now lol
Not to seem ungrateful, but when NEXT came out they did say that they were "desperate to communicate better". Seems like they did for a short span of time and then went quiet again. :(
I highly recommend you just read the patch notes on their website and see how much the game has evolved these past 2 years. Also, they are really good at making patch notes and I love reading them whenever there's a new update.
That was in a single article with an unsourced quote before the game released in 2016, I remember.
But the official website says:
> "A little while after the release of No Man’s Sky NEXT, Hello Games has planned its first season of weekly content and community events. This will be free for all players, with no microtransactions."
Also, I can't find it now, but very recently (NEXT era) Sean did an interview and he said they would basically do whatever it takes to NOT have paid DLC.
Link to the game's update announcement incl features and screenshots
Looking at the picture of the 4 characters on the lefthand side of the picture in the red grass, none of them look especially gendered to me. You have a Gek, and blobby spacesuits # 1, 2, and 3. I actually like the spacesuit aesthetic and thought it was realistic that the suit would mask most body detail. (e.g., actual female astronaut)
I understand you're not looking for Fallout Nuka-Girl levels of femininity. And in future / alternate universes, you could arbitrarily say that tech is to the point that suits don't need to be so bulky and can reveal more detail, so saying "they are in our world" isn't super strong an argument. What would be your ideal? Just a bit more waist shaping?
The patch notes in the past have been much more detailed than the PS Blog post details we got. Just take a look at how massive (and beautiful) the Atlas Rises patch notes are. NEXT is supposed to be their big relaunch it would be absolutely insane not to put forth at least the same amount of content.
From Sean's blog post way back at update 1.03: "Temporal AA and my new cloud rendering tech should be coming soon too. It will really change the game again, and enhance it visually."
Temporal AA came not long after that, but we never got Sean's cloud rendering tech. Still hopeful it's coming. The WARE site's order page mentions "cloud rendering technology", so I don't know if that was an in-joke or a hint that the new cloud rendering is coming in NEXT.
Here is everything in a nutchell. Klick the links for more because I'm too lazy to list down all the added stuff -w-
https://www.nomanssky.com/atlas-rises-update/
https://www.nomanssky.com/pathfinder-update/
Correction: they are updating the game still. A fairly decently-sized update called "Pathfinder" came out last week that adds ground vehicles for planet surfaces, some graphical facelift, Steam Workshop, ship and weapon classes, the ability to own more than one ship, and a decent amount of other stuff. I don't think anyone can argue that the game had a pretty rocky start, but the developers seem pretty passionate about it, and with two big updates since release and possibly more in the pipeline, it seems like they'll stick with it for as long as they can.
If you mean rotation of the planets causing the day/night cycle, that was removed before launch because it got confusing for players. These are the earliest patch notes I can find mentioning it two days before the game launched. https://www.nomanssky.com/2016/08/update-1-03/?cli_action=1630893962.829
That's an odd situation. They claimed there was planetary rotation and they removed it because of play testers struggling to adjust to it. In the 1.03 patch notes (which were moved to a separate page from the rest of the Release Log, you either need a direct link or you need to google to find it, which is really sus..) They said they reduced the effect, but if you looked in the game files, there was never any rotation whatsoever in any playable version before, during, or after 1.03.
I really doubt they will implement planetary rotation.
Pretty much lol.. Play testers said when they would fly back into space the space station had disappeared. It’s mentioned very briefly in the 1.03 patch notes which was something like a week after release.
https://www.nomanssky.com/2016/08/update-1-03/
The notes say the rotation effect was reduced but there’s tons of threads from 2016 of people saying it was never in the actual game that was released. An interesting take in one thread was that maybe it is annoying having to figure out where everything is every time you leave a planet, and it might just be better without it to avoid the confusion and have better gameplay over a more realistic sim.
It wasn't about planet orbits, but planet rotation.
https://www.nomanssky.com/2016/08/update-1-03/
"Planet rotation – play testing has made it obvious people are struggling to adjust to this during play so it’s effects have been reduced further…"
Devs learned and have been making expansion like updates for free that have added new content, right now it is for me the best survival game out there (also have a creative pasive mode). They added the system to have masive space ships that work like bases to manage tour fleet and send them on missions, do quests, make bases on planets, upgrade your character, survive farming diferent elements for diferent stuff, buying new ships on space stations, work on your relation with different races and added a story. Also they added co-op and are releasing a big update in summer to play fully online.
https://www.nomanssky.com/next-update/
That link will take you to Next update notes, there are a lot more updates you can look online.
Edit: Also space Batles are cool
The website for the game is the best I know of.
That link has all the patch notes, and just so you know, the content updates are 'Foundation', 'Path Finder', and 'Atlas Rises' in that order. They all also have the trailers in their respective patch notes sections.
Lots of little hints, but most importantly this:
https://www.nomanssky.com/2018/03/no-mans-sky-next/
Check out the logo under the platform logos. "W/ARE" is part of some kind of ARG they are using to build up hype (http://ware-tech.cloud/), but why would you place it like that if not to strongly suggest a VR release?
And generally it just makes too much sense for NMS to get a VR mode for this not to happen eventually. If not the full game, then at least some kind of VR exploration mode.
Third and the biggest content update this far added multiplayer, portals, economy, 30h story, crashed freighters, graphical overhaul and many many other tweaks: https://www.nomanssky.com/atlas-rises-update/
Second content update added ground vehicles, weapon and ship specifications, more base building and other tweaks: https://www.nomanssky.com/pathfinder-update/
First content update which added base building, freighters, farming and many other smaller tweaks: https://www.nomanssky.com/foundation-update/
In short, I think the game is great. Granted, I always thought the game was great. But now I think it's double great. Here's a link to the official NMS website where you can find the patch notes to all three major updates and smaller updates as well;
Here are the patch notes for all three major content updates, it covers all the changes made since launch I think.
Foundation Update: https://www.nomanssky.com/foundation-update/
Pathfinder Update: https://www.nomanssky.com/pathfinder-update/
Atlas Rises: https://www.nomanssky.com/atlas-rises-update/
Here you go friend, taken directly from the interwebz😁
"When purchasing a new freighter, your existing freighter base is automatically transferred and reconstructed. In addition, freighter base layouts can now be reset at any time from the Freighter Upgrade Control terminal."
Things NMS has added for free: VR, cross-platform and co-op play, adopting and breeding creatures, land and sea vehicles, freighters and fleets, and multiple gameplay modes. They've also overhauled the visuals dozens of times and enhanced base-building, world / creature / ship generation and variety, and collectables. I spent $50 on the game 4 years ago and it's remade itself several times over since I bought it, all for free.

Idk. I'd much rather read the notes from ... Hello games rather than give revenue to some shitty youtube video.
https://www.nomanssky.com/2021/06/prisms-patch-3-52/
Also agreed on the before pic. It's like they snapped that from the non-next gen consoles right before it actually loaded the textures, total charade.

"As this is our fifth anniversary year, we have some other surprises up our sleeves, with more information coming very soon."
> Why does every game these days run by people who seemingly do not even know how they work?
That's not true. For instance the quality of the patches in games like Warframe and NMS is from another world compared what we have here. For instance, this is a patch NMS pulled out in a random Thursday and this is the community feedback about it. This is what you get when the devs are passionate about their project.
In contrast all FD did in a year (almost exactly) was give us an half baked fleet carrier screwing up the whole game economy twice in the process.
Exactly what additional "gameplay changes" you were expecting that weren't mentioned here?

https://www.nomanssky.com/visions-update/

That's reasonable. Warframe's pretty much the gold standard of community engagement these days, I think a lot of devs should be taking notes from them, Hello especially. And yeah, even as someone who's more easily forgiving, that radio silence in the first few months of release was deafening. If it wasn't for the Foundation patch, I probably would've entirely given up on them too.
I know Murray did an interview with Eurogamer a few days ago, and there's also this blog post from yesterday -- I think it's the first time in two years that he's openly discussed the launch and the hype, I could be wrong -- but I've seen a lot of "too little, too late" sentiment about it. They do seem to have genuinely learned a harsh lesson about communication, though, which gives me hope that they won't make the same mistakes twice.
You dont have to pay attention to the trailer. There is a screenshot on their official site with 5 people in it: https://i.imgur.com/gwLvNRo.jpg
from this page: https://www.nomanssky.com/2018/07/no-mans-sky-next-trailer/
They are not the focus, they're always slightly off to the side, or only seen in a flash.
We've got:
Fish in an underwater scene (edit: this was actually one of the promo screenshots that shows them)
A more developed version of the "fiend" cave monster that was found in the files over a year ago. This is seen around ~~29~~ 25 seconds in, play on .25 speed. As far as I can tell, this is the only new creature/rig shown off.
A rodent like those found in caves right now.
A strider
The last two are both on the left side in the sentinel scene.
It's supposed to add multiplayer as well as a wack ton of other stuff, and coincide with the release of the Xbox One version of the game.
Yeah. It shows how dedicated they are to improving their image. The upcoming NEXT update comes out later this month, and it brings multiplayer to the game. The update coincides with an Xbox One release.
Their image was quite tarnished for me after the whole release fiasco, but their work on the game has done a fair amount of work to turn me back on to them.
I am not sure, maybe cause they are just coinciding with the Atlas Rises update that allowed for people to communicate with each other? https://www.nomanssky.com/atlas-rises-update/
It was last year, but I guess fiscal year it carries through :P
It sounds like part of the Artemis quest line. IIRC, the missions to find Holo Terminuses (Termini?) should be in the same system (or really close by), not 3,000ly away! Did you move away from the system by mistake?
You should also be able to reset the location of the mission.
Also, this game is dumb in limiting the warp range when using the lines in the galactic map. In order to be able to make larger jumps in your freighter, you need to use the Free Explore mode and look in the direction of your target.
Do a search on the subreddit. Your questions have been answered in depth several hundred times in the last few months. You should find some good in depth opinions that way, with both the good and the bad (yes it's better, no it's not yet perfect).
There are also videos detailing the updates on https://www.nomanssky.com/

Since you have everything at a glance (:
The game has come a long way since launch, plenty of new features and Improvements added. The path finder update added base building, land vehicles, freighters for multiple ships. https://www.nomanssky.com/release-log/
Up to you. Why not check out the two major updates and see if the game appeals to you again or not?
There have been two big updates plus a number of patches since release here are the release notes which summarise this: * https://www.nomanssky.com/foundation-update/ * https://www.nomanssky.com/pathfinder-update/
Under patch notes / other improvements, one of the notes says : "The reward for discovering all creatures on the planet has been significantly increased."
Not trying to be a dick, but this question gets posted several times a day on here.
You already bought the game, so you own it. You have absolutely no risk in re-installing it and giving it a spin, other than your time.
Or you can go through the releases and see if there's anything that's interesting to you: https://www.nomanssky.com/release-log/
Instead of posting here, do a little bit of research on your own, man. No one here knows you like you know you, so no one here can tell you if it's worth returning to *for you*.
It wasn't about planet orbits, it was about planets rotation : https://www.nomanssky.com/2016/08/update-1-03/
"Planet rotation – play testing has made it obvious people are struggling to adjust to this during play so it’s effects have been reduced further…"

Altough he also said : " “When you're on a planet, you can see as far as the curvature of that planet. If you walked for years, you could walk all the way around it, arriving back exactly where you started. Our day to night cycle is happening because the planet is rotating on its axis as it spins around the sun. There is real physics to that. We have people that will fly down from a space station onto a planet and when they fly back up, the station isn't there anymore; the planet has rotated. People have filed that as a bug.”
So I don't know, I wish we could play the very first version of the game to compare.
Here's an example of them lying.. Does it fit your definition of lying?
They said they reduced planetary rotation in the patch notes of the 1.03 update when there wasn't any planetary rotation to reduce..
From their site.. https://www.nomanssky.com/2016/08/update-1-03/
You can play previous updates and there was no planetary rotation to reduce..
The VR announcement from the NMS homepage says: "We are excited for that moment when millions of players will suddenly update and be able to set foot on their home planets and explore the intricate bases they have built in virtual reality for the first time." - and to me, this still sounds like the will be no reset and we can simply update the game and experience everything we know in VR.

I might be wrong, but I still think this is the most hintful hint for "no reset" there could be 😅
They are placeholders for a new cloud system, coming soon.
https://www.nomanssky.com/next-update/
‘Dynamic volumetric clouds create more realistic planetary atmospheres. Increased quality clouds will be rolling out in parity to all platforms very soon.’
