Lots of people complaining it was "cringe", I assume. It's actually been slowly patched out, in their early QnAs for the CBTs it used to be extremely obnoxious and was toned down with every subsequent post until every roleplaying aspect was removed.

That's the same video they already showed at gamescom (they had two, this is basically selection of scenes from both), I suggest reading the blog instead, there is some detailed explanation and additional info about each scene in the video, you'll learn some cool things that aren't evident just from watching.

What I hope we'll seen in future is more automation, or selection of advisors and messengers like in some mods, so you don't have to run around the map and do every single minute thing - asking for additional troops (by simply sending messenger) while I'm waiting and trying to siege a castle would be the best thing ever. That way I could spend more time on cow herding.

Xiao is an illuminated beast. But as Yaksha, he decided to keep a human form. It's implied his true form is that of garuda. I believe something similar to a harpy.

The update comes out whenever it comes out, agreed. But if the team is not going to communicate, then messages like this one that they themselves put out don't seem genuine. Just because they are a small studio does not exempt them from what I think is a fair criticism: they said they would be more open and more outwardly communicative, and they are not. I've never asked for them to release it early, or to announce a release date, and I think implying anybody here is demanding they immediately release the update is being disingenuous. The larger complaint is not a desire for the update to drop, but for Hello Games to simply provide information on WHAT we are waiting for.

You announce a release window for summer, then by summer you need to provide more information if not a release date. This is standard for all forms of media. If Hello Games is running into some problems, by all means delay the update: but TELL US so we're on the same page. If you announce a release window and then, by that time you've announced, you still have no new information to go on, it comes off as being unprepared and disorganized. It's a bad look, and one I think HG doesn't need to have if they just say something.

Nobody I've seen is demanding an update come out this minute. Everybody I've talked to about it just want HG to talk to us like they said that they would, even if it means being given bad news. By the way, the animation designers have in fact gone into depth about how they create animations for characters (or well rather specifically Xiao, but it gives us a window into the other ones). They use things like movie stunts (both "real" ones and ones that use wires) as inspiration, some of them are also mo capped although a few more 'impossible' ones are done manually. Some of the images in the link above are dead now but I think you can get the gist of it that way.

I can believe that. Mihoyo even released a whole page of character development notes when Xiao came out explaining all the chinese cultural influences in his designs. He is the only character they've done that so far

Some highlights that got me hyped

You know what though- all things considered, I can't help but think that this is deliberate. The darkest dungeon game, IMHO is Dismas's redemption story.

We start with the highwayman comic. Dismas is nothing more than a murder, and it's only after gunning down a child that he fully realizes the monster he's become.

Dismas isn't a young man, if his character image is anything to go by. Who knows how many lives he's taken. How many people he's robbed. How Mapuche injustice he's committed over the course of his life.

At the start of the game, dismas is a broken man seeking redemption- the game itself hints as much. The opening cut scene you get after making a new game file ends with the haunting line, "the old road will take you to hell. But in that gaping abyss... we will find our redemption."

What separates the Dismas from the various brigands and thieves you fight in the game? It's not just that Dismas is on another side- it's that he's left his old life behind in a vigorous (and potentially martyrous) pursuit of driving out one of the greatest evils in the world.

Also, I've got my theory that Dismas was the one the Ancestor sent the letter to, and is actually the Ancester's bastard son with some prostitute from when the Ancestor was much younger (it's been well established that the Ancestor was a unrepentant hedonist). But this is more pure speculation than anything else.

TL;DR Dismas is my favorite darkest dungeon character. I'm a sucker for redemption themes.

Sum up but I suggest reading the article still:

Geo resonance was bad, his cast for hold e was too long making him easy to ragdoll, had to pick between pillar and shield when using e, weaker shield with 250% geo damage absorption (how many things attack with geo), split scaling making building a bit awkward.

Other variables: lore and marketing seemed to indicate a dps character. He felt heavily locked by constellations compared to previous units (c0 being as quoted "half a unit") so people were worried all future units would be like this. There were not a lot of other characters with geo constructs that worked well with zhongli (albedo).

Goddamn it's been five years since they announced Bannerlord. Hell, it's been so long that the images on the first announcement expired.

In short, you need 2 fate points that you get by losing the 50/50 between the two featured weapons (I think losing the 75/25 gives no fate points) after choosing the one you want. Changing weapons mid-banner removes the points, and those points go back to 0 for each banners.

This isn’t made for low spenders and F2P at all unfortunately

What bugs me is they released a statement saying that they will increase load for this update and the increase is dependent on the device yet all everyone got is enough load to place a tree or two, even for those who with high-end hardware.

Battle sizes and scope of project is expected to be 2x+ more than Mount and Blade, which was already a ridiculously in-depth game.

It does involve maths, but it's a very different type of maths to what you learn in school. I know programmers who hate maths and mathematicians who hate programming.

EDIT: If you start off by writing Visual Novels, which is a very writing focused style of game, you won't need to know very much programming and it will involve hardly any maths at all. I recommend checking out turorials for Ren'Py.

I don't know if I'm spoiled by other games' open development (most recently Paradox games, Stellaris specifically) but I really thought that they'd be more open with Bannerlord.

Eh, depends. Ironically 1 year out NMS put out Atlas Rises which more or less hit what they initially promised.

They actually confirmed in a blog years ago that one year will be condensed to 12 weeks, effectively making the years pass about 4.35 times faster. If we can suspend disbelief on that then I feel like you could also just have aging occur at twice the rate so that a baby reaching maturity at say 16 would take 672 in-game days. Add more travel time in the bigger map and hopefully more ways to make the time pass quickly during peace and I think that'd be a reasonable amount of time to have a child ready in the mid-late game. Definitely interesting to think about what other ways they might make it work, some may have to be modded in to reach the feature's full potential.

I'll be honest as a long-time fan. They've added a lot of good content. Hello Games have released free update after free update. Do I feel that much of the exploration that I bought it for was marginalized in the process? Yes. Luckily, the NEXT update coming on Tuesday shows improvement in generation that is going to be wonderful for exploration (improved terrain, fauna, and flora).

The NMS devs "unofficially" sort of support Linux. They've released patches in the past that address Linux issues. For example - https://www.nomanssky.com/2019/08/beyond-patch-2-08a/ >Fixed Steam VR in Linux.

Linux certainly isn't a primary platform for them, but they do seem to keep an eye on it.

We did have PvP, in the form of Windtrace and with the recent events of Theatre Mechanicus and Seelie event, we'll have it rerun.

However, direct combat PvP with other players will absolutely never happen.

1. The game isn't made for combat PvP, take a look at Zhongli and Ganyu, their existence alone makes PvP unfair. The top meta teams in this game will have either of the two or both.
2. Implementing combat PvP in a game like this would make it even more P2W and considering that every single PvP gacha game has a motive for you to use it, expect people complaining every single day and voicing out their complaints.
3. Making a PvE game into a PvP game will be the end of it, such as the case of Kingdom Hearts Unchained X which recently closed this year. Powercreep became abundant after PvP was implemented and new medals(the reason you pull in the gacha in this game) were always more broken than the last.

There is no dialogue, but the things that are inferred are this: He was a loved and respected noble man, who left his home of his own free will despite the adoration of his community/subjects. As for why, it's entirely possible he does this as a Death March, a way to try and do some good before his body falls apart.

As for his combat prowess, there is a funny thing about Leprosy. It tends to dull the nerves and cause vision issues, which could be used to explain why he's such a tanky hard hitter with accuracy issues. It's also possible it's just a side benefit to explain away video game class archetypes.

As for why the hamlet doesn't ostracize him, I don't think Red Hook thought of that sort of mechanic before they implemented the Abombination. So it's likely just gameplay and story segregation.

Huh I didn't see that. It does seem to imply that they will be different but at the same time it could just be clarifying how the pity work. Guess we will find out soon.

Yes the gameplay is fantastic. The combat is the most enjoyable combat I have ever experienced in an MMO. The combat is action based and uses a combo system. There are tons of systems involved in the game. I think the best way I have heard it put is that the game is like The Witcher MMO. You can spend days just talking with people around town. You could also just power grind mobs to max level and fight boss mobs (raid bosses) or GVG, PVP. The game has some faults but overall I really enjoy it. (playing on KR servers)

The way patches work is they have to go through CERT (Certification) to make sure the patch wont brick your console, so it goes through heavy testing. 1.52 is live as of July 27. 1.52.1 Was Sent to CERT July 30th, it takes few days to process. 1.53 was sent today so it will take another few days. You'll get your updates whenever Microsoft/Sony clear CERT.

Looks like Xbox is actually behind, on getting 1.52. Microsoft takes longer than sony it seams.

Hey u/PlagueOfGripes , if you are interested in actually making a visual novel out of this I can help out you with that.

Most visual novels you see on Steam are made with a library/framework called Ren'Py. This uses the Python programming language for game logic and a custom scripting language for dialogue/scenes. The custom scripting language is very easy to learn and Python is a relatively easy language to get into. Ren'Py is Open Source and free to use without any royalties, payments, obligations or anything like that.

I'm a developer and I'm experienced in Python and toyed a little bit with Ren'Py (never made a visual novel before though). I can help you in one of two ways, as you prefer:

• I can give you advise, sample code, help and code resources for Python and Ren'Py. Also if you are considering another programming language/framework/library to make the visual novel I can give you an educated guess of how it is, pros, cons, etc.

• I can actually develop the game for you. I can spare between 10 and 15 hours per week (I have a full time job as a dev), I would do this for free only because you plan on releasing the game for free and I think that people could benefit from such a game existing. Think of it as community service. If you want to confirm I can do the job, I can make a small proof-of-concept game in Ren'Py.

The game isn't balanced for PvP content, and they won't balance (read nerf) for PvP, since that would effect the desirability of the character.

Honestly, what the game needs is a repeatable rewarding dungeon, probably rogue lite, so its randomised to a degree. Something you can grind when you are out of resin, basically. Alternatively they could actually make the open world functional; respawn chests, more xp/mora from mobs, all mobs have a 40% chance to drop fodder artifacts, again, stuff to do when out of resin...

It is worth $30 easily. It has multiplayer already, the promised features have been implemented, and many more features have been added. Since release the game has grown substantially.

They've added stuff like base construction, quests, freighters, frigates, freighter bases, planetary bases (anywhere now), portals, community events, a real story, enhanced graphics, vehicles, archeology, character customization, a bunch more biomes including improved underwater biomes, a great photo mode, and more that I cannot think of currently.

Based on Xiao's Vision lore, all adepti are capable of wielding the elements and have powers basically equating to a Vision, but it's unknown whether this power comes from Celestia and follows the same 'rules' as Visions for humans. From this article also on Xiao, it states that Adepti in Teyvat are explicitly non-human, as humans are considered to have a 'higher purpose'. Xiao's physical vision is apparently just to fit in with his human form.

Ganyu and Yanfei received Visions (presumably from Celestia) later in life, and both are also half-adepti. Ganyu's Vision lore says that it "[granted] her power to resonate with the world to a degree beyond her natural abilities.", which implies that she wasn't as strong before without a Vision.

Still, Ganyu had to have some natural power of her own to fight in the war, likely due to her half-blooded heritage combined with being raised/trained by the adepti growing up (they still have their own magic after all). Yanfei in comparison is far more like a regular human who just acquired a Vision through the usual ambition/motivation, especially since she grew up in the city during a time of peace and isn't as close to her adepti side as Ganyu.

They buffed Geo resonance(15% dmg increase?!?) because of people complaining on Zhongli, but ignored the fact that Electro is underpowered. Kinda sad, but I think the only way they'll buff Electro is when a Zhongli-like incident happened.
