I'm sure you've probably heard about it, but if you haven't then you might want to look into Pillars of Eternity. It's an upcoming isometric RPG styled after Baldurs Gate and Icewind Dale and made by the same people.
Apologies, since this is borderline on self-promotion, but I'm super excited that Pillars of Eternity is finally out. I was a Kickstarter backer for the project before I started working at Obsidian. (I'm not one of the designers for it - I work on Armored Warfare.)
Anyway, I'm super happy that the game is out, and that it's getting such a positive reception so far. Anyone playing? I'd love to hear your impressions.
I rolled a human cypher. I <3 gishes.

Correct me if I'm wrong anyone, but I think that when using PayPal the money is withdrawn immediately, not at the end of the campaign as it is when you pay via the "normal" Kickstarter system. Just so you are aware.
In addition to what others have recommended so far, I'd say to look out for the upcoming Torment: Tides of Numenera, and Pillars of Eternity.
NICE! I’m so grateful that the early Kickstarter movement permitted a CRPG revival 15 years after the likes of isometric dialogue-laden rpgs the likes of Baldur's Gate,* PS:Torment*, and Icewind Dale. I can't deny that another entry would not be a welcomed addition.
In 2014 we got Wasteland 2 and Divinity: Original Sin, and 2015 looks to be even more promising with Pillars of Eternity and Torment: Tides of Numenerra!
I have it and I like it a lot. ;) You can really feel the Obsidian design language in it.
I have also backed "Pillars of Eternity" a new, classic RPG in the style of Baldur's Gate.
I remember reading a dev article saying that it's too late to get your name in the credits, but you can still be included in the expansions. I'll look for it when I have the chance. Edit* Found it. Here
>If you have in-game rewards (like an NPC, an item, or even backer credits) we most likely will be unable to fulfill those rewards because the game is close to releasing,
The only comments Obsidian has made regarding Steam is that Pillars would not require it (being DRM-free), and that you could redeem your digital copy through the service, if you choose (or gog.com). Personally, I doubt that you will be able to activate a boxed copy on Steam, as usually that is only possible with games that require the Steam client, and because Obsidian is pledged to making the game truly DRM-free.
Unless, you pledged for a boxed copy. The difference is that many people pledged for a boxed copy of the game, and Obsidian said that the boxed copies would pretty much not be available on launch day, March 26th, because they want to ship without requiring a day 1 patch (i.e. they want to ship boxed games with v1.0 as opposed to whatever version they had at the time of the CD pressing). So, as to not make those backers wait for the game to be produced, Obsidian offered a free digital copy to anyone that pledged for the boxed copy. Check out Pillars of Eternity or Torment: Tides of Numenera, both of them are crowdfunded games that are nearing completion (probably?).
The 6 base stats do different things than the DnD ones, (though str is well, how hard you hit stuff so that is hard to change), and the spells have different names.
The spirit is the same, but you have to do some reading to equip and micro manage properly.
For example, everyone can wear armour, though it makes your 'turn' take longer in heavier gear if you arn't spec'd for it

It's not dead, but like most MMO's these days there are some P2W elements in. If you're looking for a Neverwinter-like game, might I suggest Pillars of Eternity? It's Obsidian's newest game and runs on the same mechanics as NWN, except it's in Obsidian's own universe (not DnD universe), and in my opinion it's a very solid game.
I've been super into Pillars of Eternity lately. If you have ever heard of Baldur's Gate, this is almost a sequel of sorts. The game itself is insanely in-depth, you could spend hours customizing your character and party, or just interacting with NPCs/reading lore from the books you come across in game. It's got an interesting loot and crafting system as well to keep things interesting.
Personally, it really feels like Dungeons and Dragons mixed with Diablo, I would highly recommend it. One of those games where you sit down to go a quest and look up to see 4 hours has passed.
Here's the link to Obsidian's website where you can check it out.
If you look trough their updates at their website they had at least one update on how combat works.
There's also this: PoE tabletop RPG and card game in the works.

> It's come to our attention that a piece of backer-created content has made it into Pillars of Eternity that was not vetted. Once it was brought to our attention, it followed the same vetting process as all of our other content. Prior to release, we worked with many of our backers to iterate on content they asked to be put into the game that didn't strike the right tone.
>
> In the case of this specific content, we checked with the backer who wrote it and asked them about changing it. We respect our backers greatly, and felt it was our duty to include them in the process. They gave us new content which we have used to replace what is in the game. To be clear, we followed the process we would have followed had this content been vetted prior to the release of the product.

Not that I'm aware of. Besides which, I fully expect launch day differences that would invalidate that info, too.
EDIT: Ah, here is the manual's errata page: http://eternity.obsidian.net/manual/errata
I loved Baldur's Gate and there's a new isometric rpg coming out this month from Obsidian called Pillars of Eternity that I can't wait for. It's going to be awesome: http://eternity.obsidian.net/media/index
How about Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (2003, great story) or Divinity: Original Sin (modern take on classic isometric cRPG style) then? There's also a couple of promising new games coming soon: Pillars of Eternity and Torment: Tides of Numenera.
Shadowrun: Dragonfall, if you don't mind turn based combat. Cyberpunk setting, and you've got a colorful cast of characters in your party. It's not Mass Effect level of dialogue and it's not voice acted, but I enjoyed it a lot. I made a pseudo-review post here -
http://www.reddit.com/r/truegaming/comments/2sbw9l/why_shadowrun_dragonfall_is_easily_my_favorite/
And you can check the discussion to get different perspectives of course.
And they got a ton of funding for the next Shadowrun game as well -
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/webeharebrained/shadowrun-hong-kong
Also there's -
Coming soon. Made by some of the same devs that created KotOR II. It's not set in space, but it's party based and will presumably be fairly dialogue heavy if that's what you're after. Combat will be more IE game style than Bioware style though. Just something to look out for.
It's just observations from playing a lot of video games. And following dev posts from my favorites and so on. And a tiny amount of modding.
The Pillars of Eternity updates are a good example for a somewhat inside-perspective -
I wouldn't say I dive deep into game design but you pick things up even as a consumer.
Itsellä selkeästi odotetuin peli on Obsidianin (eli ex-Black Isle/Interplay - jengin) ihan parin kuukauden sisään ilmestyvä Pillars of Eternity. Koska Baldur's Gate ym.
Sitten Dark Souls - pelisarjan ystävänä tuo Bloodborne kiinnostaa aika kovasti, tosin sitä varten pitäisi sitten hankkia PS4, joten nähtäväksi jää miten sen kanssa omalta osalta käy...
GTA vitosen PC-versiota odottelen kanssa, vaikka kolkkiboksilla tuo tulikin jo pelattua läpi. Lähinnä tarkoitus olisi päästä kavereiden kanssa riehumaan moninpelissä, mikä ainakin GTA IV:ssä oli taattua hupia.
> Miss classic cRPGs like Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale, and Planescape: Torment? So do we! > Introducing Obsidian's PILLARS OF ETERNITY.
Rumor has it that Pillars Of Eternity is going to be really awesome. ;) The trailer doesn't have a wow factor though. What really makes me excited is when you see the maps.
It's a game being made by Obsidian, a group of developers who made Baldur's gate (as Black Isle). They kickstarted it, raised a couple of million dollars, and have been working on it for the last two years. It's still not released yet, but there are regular updates, and they promise it will be as good as Baldur's Gate was. You can find out more about it at their web site.
Pillars of Eternity is a kickstarter funded Infinity Engine-esque spiritual successor to Icewind Dale/Baldur's Gate/Planescape: Torment games. It's being developed by Obsidian as well as some outside talent they brought in for the project. It's entering beta currently.
If you'd consider those old games traditional RPGs, then I suppose PoE would be as well.
Stealth and diplomacy will definitely exist, and there will also be character progression.
I already linked it in a different comment in this thread, but Project Eternity now known as The Pillars Of Eternity is coming soon™ from Obsidian. It isn't D&D, but it's an Infinity Engine -style game anyway.
Well there's some here:
http://eternity.obsidian.net/eternity/media
You can probably access all the art in the game if you go into its subfolders and open the unity-files. Maybe there's an application online that can do that idk.
There was a fan-kit available before I think but I can't find it online now. Maybe the Obsidian community staff can help out.
> But sadly, there hasn't been a PC game for the Forgotten Realms universe in many years, and most likely there never will be either.
Baldur's Gate: Siege of Dragonspear
And you being an enthusiast of old Forgotten Realms RPG I find it strange that you make no reference to Pillars of Eternity
> But Steam did provide a good service especially during a time when pirating was becoming more and more popular due to the rise in game prices.
But piracy was a side effect of game quality issues and taking away shit from gamers. Lets be honest the industry is at fault here. Developers are for being cowards/greedy cunts.
So the only thing we can do is fund/support our small island of honest developers via kickstarter/etc.
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/webeharebrained/shadowrun-hong-kong
What! WHAT! I can't believe you missed it!?
Obsidian Entertainment kickstarted, and funded, an isometric RPG in the BG/ID/PS:T style two years ago. A few weeks ago it finally launched, and to a lot of critical acclaim.
I didn't expect much out of it due to its kickstarter nature, but it was bloody brilliant. What's more, I believe it has been a great commercial success and already an expansion + sequel is in the works.
I think it's the first time Obwidian has made something they REALLY shine at, and with the cash they've got from its sales now, I think PoE 2 will be brilliant. Hopefully, they give themselvesthe means to succeed.
And, like I said... the writing in PoE is good at all times, and sometimes it's just plain fantastic.

I just checked Amazon. There are only download codes and Guide books on the US site, but the German Amazon site has a boxed version with a DVD, a 80 page handbook, the soundtrack (apparently downloadable) and a poster. I don't know if the book is in German or in English, but the game can be switched from German to English in the menu, and the narration and voices are in English anyways. I guess you could go for that if you're hyped enough, or wait and see if an English boxed version hits the US stores. You could also check out http://eternity.obsidian.net/ . They sell the game directly as well, maybe you can get a boxed version from there.
Oh man! These games bring me back - some of the best co-op I played growing up!
I don't really have a great answer for you, just wanted to comment on the nostalgia. I will make a suggestion even though I'm certain it's not what you're looking for; CoN and BG:DA are both "lighter" action/adventure versions of Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale, etc. but if you enjoyed the latter games, you really should check out Pillars of Eternity if you haven't yet already. It was released just yesterday and I have to say it's a breath of fresh air and a true revival of classic PC rpgs. I cannot recommend it enough on it's own merit, and though it's much meatier than the games you mentioned, it's a game that you need to play if you're interested in the genre.
As recent posts have mentioned, the posted manual is apparently wildly out of date. An errata page has been posted, though it may not yet address your question. http://eternity.obsidian.net/manual/errata
I can't think of anything... but I would watch out for Pillars of Eternity to release. That game is going to be SOO fucking good. I have hopes that it will basically be Icewind Dale 2015 style.
It's a shame you never finished it, would have been great to watch, or even to have as something to look back on many years down the road when GW2 servers are offline and people want some nostalgia!
BTW, I've been watching ChristopherOdds LP of Wasteland 2 and he seems to be loving it, it got me thinking that you might really enjoy doing a LP of Pillars of Eternity when it comes out! It will have a lot in common with Wasteland 2 and is from the creators of many of the Infinity Engine games (Planescape, Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale, etc)
I think the choose your own adventure style of this game will really fit your narrative style and believe you would really enjoy it :)
http://www.reddit.com/r/ShouldIbuythisgame
Is a subreddit you might use for "LF games like this".
That said, other than playing old Bioware and IE engine games(Mass Effect series/KotOR 1&2, Baldur's Gate II and Planescape: Torment sharing the most in common I'd say), I'd suggest -
Shadowrun Dragonfall: It's low budget but was surprisingly fun. The combat is full turn based rather than real time with pause, and while it's not voiced, the dialogue/characters were well done. It's also cheap, though you missed a recent steam sale, I grabbed it for 6$.
Fallout New Vegas. It's a bit of a stretch, but it was made by Obsidian rather than Bethesda which means way, way better dialogue and just in general a better handling of RPG elements than post-Morrowind Bethesda games. It's real time, but has VATS which sort-of gives a turn-based/real time with pause feel to it if you want to go that route. Combat is pretty "meh" but it's Beth's wonky engine and it seems they did what they could with that POS and it's the least irritating creation/gamebryo combat IMO. You don't get a full party but you can get one companion to travel around with. The quests and story are probably the strong point.
Still, it depends on what you're looking for from the DA:O experience. Party-based combat? A fantasy setting? Lots of dialogue? Etc. etc.
Pillars of Eternity should release fairly soon as well, and it's Obsidian as well but much more IE style than New Vegas was. I'm pretty excited about it since it's a completely new setting rather than Obsidian working with an existing setting like Fallout or Star Wars.
Pillars of Eternity has a fantasy setting close to what we would call renaissance rather than medieval. They have firearms but the printing press hasn't been invented yet. Also, colonization and conflicts between cultures plays a large part of the background conflict in the world. I think it is a rather interesting approach.
/r/projecteternity
I'm really looking forward to Pillars of Eternity. Also I'll play WoW WoD but I'm not super excited about it, it'll prolly just be like a background thing to kill time when I'm not killing time here
Yes, great game and it is a one of a kind IMHO. The graphics now are not that great, I don't know if there are any graphics mods, but it would be a huge improvement. However, it is a very unique story and a huge world. You can run through it quickly, but the fun is poking around and talking to everyone and soaking it in.
The good news is that there is a Kickstarter called Project Eternity that is making a sequel and I am as giddy as when I played the original Torment 20+ years ago. It should not be that long before they release it.
the people who run interplay did not develop fallout, it was black Isle Studios, Black Isle has since closed down and the people who fired them and running it, if you are looking for the developers of Fallout, you can find them at Obsidian Entertainment and inXile entertainment, keep an eye on Obsidian's Project Eternity this is the old Black Isle crew back together again.
