In addition to what others have recommended so far, I'd say to look out for the upcoming Torment: Tides of Numenera, and Pillars of Eternity.
DRM free, PDF manuals available for download from GOG.com or their client(Steam has a link to a download on Beamdog's site on the appropriate store page) , and the original versions of BG1 and BG2+Throne of Bhaal come with purchase of the EEs if you wish to try them.
IMO Steam is a perfectly fine store to purchase them from as well if you don't care about that stuff.
To be honest, the Enhanced Edition is pretty much all you'll need for a first run playthrough (it has a lot of mods for the original game incorporated into it).
I would take a look at this guide to the D&D rules that Baldur's Gate uses if you're not familiar with how 2nd edition D&D works.
After that, perhaps take a look at Volothamp's Guide, specifically looking at Chapter 3 (Your First Game) and Chapter 4 (Character Creation).
Where you go from there is up to you :D
The learning curve is not that big. You control a party of up to 6, and fight bad guys. However, it does use the AD&D 2.0 rules. If you are not familiar with at least some dnd rules that could be a hurdle, but it is not that big. Anyways, if you want to learn the rules quickly, or well enough to play the game, look at this gamefaq guide. If you are a really interested in the rules try purpleworm where you can read the books. Basically you don't have mana for wizards, you just cast spells that you prepare before hand, and which are split up into levels. AC is how hard you are to hit, the lower the better. THAC0 is better the lower it is, that is how easy it is to hit (To hit Armor Class 0, or what you would roll if they had 0 ac), you want your Attack higher, which lowers your Thac0.
It is sort of a difficult game to play itself though, so just save often, as fights and traps can be really unforgiving.
*edited thanks to robotrigger's correction.
I agree with the /r/games comments about this screenshot looking blurry and terrible. However, the rest of them look like they fit into the game well enough.
It seems like most of the people complaining either weren't aware that the EE wasn't doing anything to improve the game's graphics, were living in denial, or simply forgot what the game actually looked like since they last played it.
I installed those games (The trilogy was for free on GOG.com) but i found myself out of my depth.
In the IE games, i did need a lot of time to understand the mechanics, but the basic principle is obvious for anyone who's played a video game in their life. You point and click where you want your characters to go, on the item you want to pick, or the enemy you want to attack, or the NPC you want to converse with. "I" brings up the inventory, "M" the map, "J" the journal... And that's basically 90% of knowledge you need to have to pass the game on Easy.

But these games... What the hell? How do i move my characters? There's a wolf in front of me, how do i hit him?

People complain about the IE games being outdated, but this is on another level... Not to say the game's bad, it's just i hardly know how to play it.
Dan Simpson's FAQs are pretty much the standard by which all others are judged: http://www.gamefaqs.com/features/recognition/2203.html?type=1
It might help to read the manual, actually. It contains a lot of the most basic explanations. It should have come with your copy of the game (disc or gog versions both have it). Spells/abilities, though, are found in three places on the screen when you have a character selected:
The crescent moon magic button accesses priest or wizard spells. Such spells must have been memorized before you can cast them: open the relevant spellbook and select spells to fill the slots. Also you must have rested before you can cast them. A memorized spell can be cast once, and then you must rest again before casting it. Note: you can memorize multiple instances of the same spell, i.e. three Heal Minor Wounds, and then you can cast it three times before resting.
The backpack icon accesses abilities/spells granted by a character's equipped items. For example, Arbane's Short Sword allows a character holding it to be Hasted for twelve seconds, once per day. Some items may be used once per day (i.e. like a spell, you need to rest before using it again) and some have a limited number of charges, indicated by a number on the icon.
The star icon on the end accesses special innate abilities granted by class or race. Almost every character has some sort of special ability, although usefulness varies greatly. These are generally usable a certain number of times per day.
If you want something in the universe that's actually good, check out The Dark Elf Trilogy by R. A. Salvatore. They star Drizzt Do'Urden, who's a pretty entertaining character.
Besides mods, which most often are not recommended for a first playthrough, the advantages of a PC version is that it is easy to fix, change or discover things with PC tools.
For example, there is an issue with a certain late game weapon called Foebane. There is a way to fix it which implies just copying a couple of files to a directory called "override" (which as the name says, overrides the default behavior of the game).
There is also a nasty issue (crash) in the Black Pits, which is easily fixable enabling the console.
Is not that the game is terrible without modding or fixing, it's that this kind of things are harder with mobile versions, and (I think) impossible on consoles.
If you get the game on GOG.com, you can also get the original version for free with the Enhanced Edition.
The download works fine for me. Maybe your javascript is getting in the way?

It looks like the file isn't very big so I'll reupload it. Give me a couple minutes and I'll edit this post with the link.
Here's the reupload: http://www.filedropper.com/bgt118-install
When in doubt, try here: http://howlongtobeat.com/
I know this isn't your question, but this is a good tool. I use this site when I want to know how much more can I expect. Been using a while now, so I now how much to add in hours before finish the game. Is pretty much accurate.
Sorcerer is the way to go, and the only class that can complete a solo insane poverty challenge.
Other options are the Kensai/Mage, Fighter/Mage/Thief, and Fighter/Mage/Cleric.
A pure Swashbuckler is also possible.
This is one of the best ~~RPGs~~ PC games ever. 47 on metacritic's list.
"That's almost 50," you say. "That's not good!"
But it's an all time list. Besides, several of the things above it are just different versions of the same game (WoW, The Sims).
Look up a bit higher on the list, though... What's that at number 6 on the best games of all time? Why, the sequel. Baldur's Gate 2.
By buying this, you're sponsoring the new version of BG2. It will be amazing.
ninja edit: I wrote all this thinking I was in r/gaming. Of course, everyone here already knows how good BG is. That's ok, I'm leaving it. No regrets.
Easy way? Use EE Keeper to change portraits.
Alternatively try this guide, the difference been you might not know the file to replace as easy.
So this is a reimplementation of Marvel: Avengers vs. Xmen Dice Masters with some new terminology and rules. DnD Dice Masters is basically a 2 player duel style dice building game similar to Magic the Gathering.
A somewhat popular board game podcast, Dice Tower, did a youtube review of DnD Dice Masters and gave it rave reviews. It's a bit longer so I'd skip to the end if you want to get a final verdict. Link to the review
Specialize! D&D 2nd edition was a system that favored characters to be very strong in certain areas (like, maxing out strength on your Fighter) and quite weak in others (9s and 10s in Wisdom, Intelligence, and so forth). Having a character with all 14s or 15s across the board might seem balanced, but will actually work against you throughout the game.
Don't be afraid to equip everyone with ranged weapons and just shoot bad guys from afar. This is especially true in BG1 when your characters are weak as kittens and you don't have access to powerful magical items right away - it's much safer and you will tend to hit a lot more often.
Also feel free to use cheese tactics on your first playthrough. The "fog of war" in large wilderness areas will let you divide and conquer large packs of enemies. Send one member in, get the enemy to see you and chase, and then run away until only one enemy is still chasing and the rest are lost in the fog... the rest of your party makes mincemeat of the now-isolated enemy. Rinse and repeat. Even without Boots of Speed your characters' base movements are slightly faster than nearly all enemies in the game.
In areas where room is scarce and you can't really do this, you can try "main tanking" with one beefy melee character (preferably with a very low armor class) who draws all the fire, and just runs around in circles, while the 5 other members of your party take potshots at the train of monsters following him. If an enemy breaks off and goes after your artillery, just move that character out of the battle and have your tank give chase.
Finally, if you're really stuck, Dan Simpson is a legend and a scholar of the Infinity Engine-based games. His guides to BG, BG2, PS:T, IWD, IWD2, et al. are top notch.
Paulisaboy is correct, however if you are really in a rush a component (which can be installed alone) from Sword Coast Statagems will move Eldoth and Viconia to easier to access locations. This is especially helpful for Eldoth. BG1 NPC has an alternative option which opens up Cloakwood from the start, which would allow you to collect Eldoth.
Also, you should be aware that ordinarily Eldoth will eventually leave the party if you don't get Skie- they start seperately, but are a pair in the same way as Khalid & Jaheria or Xzar & Montarton. So, collecting and murdering skie, or removing her while in a building is a solution. Again, SCS has a mod component that will allow you to split Skie without Eldoth leaving; however, you will still need to collect Skie. You can also change the variable of RESCUESKIE to 1, if you know how to do that (http://www.gamefaqs.com/pc/75251-baldurs-gate/cheats), which will make Eldoth thing its finished and everything is fine, no need for Skie.
Here's the INT chart: http://playithardcore.com/pihwiki/index.php?title=Baldur%27s_Gate:_Races_and_Stats#Intelligence
Note that the limit of 18 spells per level at INT 18 only applies at the time you're trying to learn the spell. If you temporarily boost your INT score with potions or through other means, you will not lose the spells you learn when you drop back down to your base rate INT. So just stock up on potions of genius and guzzle them when you want to learn those extra spells.
On a practical note, many spells, especially those at lower levels, are fairly useless and/or redundant with other spells or items. 18 spells per level is more than enough to get you through the game. Sorcerers get by with far fewer. It can be handy to go over reviews like this one: http://www.gamefaqs.com/pc/258273-baldurs-gate-ii-shadows-of-amn/faqs/11334 which attempts to rate the usefulness of spells. Of course, there are a lot of opinions you might come to disagree with but its still a helpful tool.

Here is a guide, if something is unclear then there's plenty others out there if you google it.
It's really not as difficult as it sounds, and I think the lack of further hassle is quite worth it.
You could always go to www.isthereanydeal.com and put it on your wait list so that it emails you when it goes on discount.
Right now it lists Games Rocket as the cheapest, though i've never bought from them before... so I can't vouch for that particular retailer.
Haer'Dalis is not the complete sack of crap that most people make him out to be. The main thing is that he's a Blade, and being a Tiefling (and not a user-created PC) means he gets to break the rules... perhaps most important is the fact that he can put TWO proficiency points in long and short swords (a user-created Bard can only put one), netting yourself that very important extra half-attack and to-hit bonuses.
On top of that, his personal weapon, Chaos, can actually kill certain enemies through stat drain, provided he gets enough attacks in a round... the stat drain is -2 DEX for 30 seconds, so that's 5 rounds to get in enough hits to kill someone. Short Sword Specialization grants an extra 1/2 attack, Offensive Spin grants an extra attack for 4 rounds, Gauntlets of Extraordinary Specialization grant an extra 1/2 attack, and Improved Haste (x2 attacks) should have your Main Hand swinging 6 times per round for 4 rounds and 4 times for the 5th round. So you just need a hit rate of 13 out of 28, and you can kill anything in the game through DEX stat drain.
Others who prefer to go all out on attacks will equip him with the Scarlet Ninja-To and Belm (both which grant an extra attack each round) after getting "Use Any Item," which is 4 attacks right there with no buffs or other items (though he cannot specialize in these weapon types).
More info on how to equip and use Haer'Dalis to his fullest potential can be found here.
The two gameplay guides available on GameFAQs by Dan Simpson are great, and not outdated in any way!

Combine this with GameBanshee and you can find out pretty much anything you might want to know about the game.
Eh, Android is technically Linux in that it uses the Linux kernel but it's not properly "Linux" as in the common name for GNU/Linux-based operating systems like Ubuntu, Fedora, Mint etc. It's unlikely you'd be able to get the Linux version of BGEE running without a lot of hacking.
That said, there is a version of BGEE available specifically for Android tablets. I don't know if the new Kindle Fire uses the Google play store or not so I can't vouch that this version would work with that particular tablet. Also, it can be a bit of a pill to take to have to re-buy the same content again but many of us have bought BG several times over the years so at least you'd be in good company.
Sure, you can find it Here.
I don't use Onedrive, so if you make any changes it'd be easier to host it on another file hosting service and send me a link
Ahh ToEE one third of the Holy Troika Trinity.
> Or is there any chance of Temple of Elemental Evil EE?
I wouldn't count on it, though there is Temple+ an engine enhancement & bugfixes mod for ToEE
NWN:EE is an ongoing project. It's not something that was released and never improved.
Have a look at what is planned for the nearest future: https://trello.com/b/K0C0i8wF/neverwinter-nights-enhanced-edition
these links were posted in the last thread like this these are pretty helpful http://www.pocketplane.net/volothamp/bgguide.htm http://www.gamefaqs.com/pc/258273-baldurs-gate-ii-shadows-of-amn/faqs/8566
FYI, if you don't know about it yet. There's great ToEE mod that makes it usable on current hardware+fixes bugs+adds additional features.
You can grab it at moddb.
This is a good read: http://www.gamefaqs.com/pc/258273-baldurs-gate-ii-shadows-of-amn/faqs/9853
It was written pre-EE, but outside of any new kits/etc should apply.
Lots of depth here but it may give you ideas about which characters you want in your party and why from a tactical perspective.
I hear there was a stream a couple days ago where they talked about dates for the patch. You could check that out and see if they mentioned the iOS.
This is probably it.

I have been playing through bg2 again recently and there is a lot of anti-elf bigotry plastered all over the game. As a DF player it does make me smile. The Meta holds a lot of Elf hate.
It is intentional that most items you saved from BG1 (whether tutu or not) would be stripped of you at the beginning of BG2, since that is part of the plot - Imoen does point out that they probably sold the vast majority of your gear. As you work through Irenicus' dungeon, you get some of your items back from containers and certain enemies (if you imported with them). In other words, the game flags what you were equipped with/what you had in your inventory, and then accordingly spawns the dungeon with those items retrievable instead of placeholder items had you created an entirely new game. If you had more than one item in a loot table, it will randomly select one from the list.
If you read Dan Simpson's walkthrough (ctrl + f on 'RNCSDN') for this section, he comprehensively shows what items can be retrievable by what means.
Apparently there are a max of 4 items retrievable from BG1 in this way (and the first is non-random):
Yes, abosolutely. Go to this guide and scroll down to the "General Monster Fighting Strategies" section, or just do a Control+F on "GNRLMN". After that main section, there are notes about how to counter the more tricky enemies (such as those that can only be damaged by certain weaponry).
> Miss classic cRPGs like Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale, and Planescape: Torment? So do we! > Introducing Obsidian's PILLARS OF ETERNITY.
Rumor has it that Pillars Of Eternity is going to be really awesome. ;) The trailer doesn't have a wow factor though. What really makes me excited is when you see the maps.
I already linked it in a different comment in this thread, but Project Eternity now known as The Pillars Of Eternity is coming soon™ from Obsidian. It isn't D&D, but it's an Infinity Engine -style game anyway.
Baldur's Gate 1 and 2, along with their expansions, are available on GoG.
You could also wait for Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition to come out. It should release some time in November.
I see. I don't know too much about programming, just what's gotten me through a math degree and as an occasional hobby, but I think this sort of thing is really interesting and I could see people getting enthusiastic about rebuilding the engine, in the way OpenMW is so exciting. It has all the greatness of the aspects of Morrowind that people love while improving it under the hood.
I could see a hell of a lot of enthusiasm for an open source "Infinity+" engine. (though as a mathematician and enjoyer of wordplay, Infinity+ is pretty weak!)
I realize this post is 3 months old, but I just hit the same issue today and sucessfully resolved it (GOG version), in case you (or anyone else who finds this) still have the same problem.
The trick is to place a compatible version of dplayx.dll into the Baldur's Gate (or Baldur's Gate 2) directory.
One from one of those shady DLL download sites might work, but alternatively you can also look at steps 2 and 3 from this page
I did not bother with the original versions of the game, but I can download them from GOG.com with the purchase of the Enhanced Editions. Still, yes, I got back at the game via the enhanced editions. You CAN get back to the game, if you want.
Also, please, check the definition of nostalgia, or enlighten me on what I just checked in the dictionary if I got it wrong, but I can't have nostalgia on the game I've been playing the last 3 years.
Okay, try this.
This time I've renamed the file to a .jpg to try to fool FileDropper.
Turn on your "show file extensions" in folder settings and you then rename the file to widescreen-v305.exe instead of .jpg.
Let me know if that works
edit Yeah I don't think this is working. I'll need an FTP if I'm going to share these mods.
As you might have noticed we've been running multiplayer games on fridays and from 2 seperate 8 hour sessions i can without a doubt say Trilogy is the FAR MORE stable one. I have some more general advise
What you really want to do is this: Cook a fresh install of BGT with all the mods installed you feel are needed. Then copy the game in this state to everyone in the group so you are all running identical installs. From what i understand desync is usually caused by running different mods and different versions of mods. Running identical installs avoids that completely. Be sure you have 3d acceleration enabled because it's crashy if you don't. (check baldur.ini for paths)
Get gameranger and let that program handle all the hosting and connecting for you. Manually setting up servers and joining sessions is a hassle. It's got auto rejoin and everything. When you use trilogy you're running on the Throne of Bhaal engine so pick that from the gameranger menu.
Once everything is set up, host a game, make junk characters and start a new game. Rush outside of candle keep and start moving from where you are to nashkel. If you don't crash along the way you're good to go!
Then, and only then, are you ready to start an actual game! Even still, save all the time! Win a fight? save! Turned in a quest? Save! Even with perfectly synced games it can be unstable as hell ;p
Good luck
To be honest, I've never played BG mutiplayer before. But there is GameRanger which should sort that out for us.
What problems did you have? With Baldur's Gate specifically or online mutiplayer in general?
I'm down.
I've been able to host BGII games through gameranger. You need to either connect directly to your modem or tweak your router to put you outside the firewall in order to host.
Some mods are necessary, since vanilla BGII wont let you re-invite a party member you kick out. If you can't remove characters you always have to play every character whether all the people in your party show up or not.
Let's do this.
BG1 and 2 are currently on sale on amazon for $5. I would just play 1 first and see if it’s your cup of tea. But, 2 is the superior game by far.
First sentence in the Google Play description:
This game is optimized for tablets and not recommended for phones with screen sizes under 7 inches. We do not support Chrome OS devices.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.beamdog.baldursgateenhancededition&hl=en_AU
https://www.moddb.com/games/baldurs-gate-enhanced-edition/addons/bgee-classic-movies
That’s the mod that restores the original cutscenes, but I honestly only have experience modding the original versions. They were simple enough to install, so I doubt they’re much different for the EEs.
They'll sell things by taking into account how much potential earning there is. Since it's coming to Windows and OsX, they have their main income covered, but tablet development can be a time sink, and though it's an incredibly popular device, picking a mobile OS should be done rationally.
The iPad claiming 68 percent of the market in Q1 of 2012 isn't helping the already small developer count for non-iOS devices. Apple's made it easy for developers by having a minimal number of devices supporting their operating system, and all made by them.
It's a flash animation. I know exactly how long shit like this takes because I've worked in the animation industry before. It doesn't take a team of 20 people to do the Angry Birds animation I showed you. It takes a team of 2-3 a few months.
Take a look at the stuff here.
http://www.newgrounds.com/movies/browse/interval/month/sort/score#interval:all
Each one of these are made by ONE person over a period of a few months. And all of those are better than the intro that we were given.
Regardless, go buy BGEE and enjoy it if you want. It think it's a pile of shit and I've just re-installed Baldur's Gate and I'm enjoying that since it's virtually identical.

>I'm blanking on everyone's name right now, but...
>The thief in the southern part of the sewers.
>The thief who appears at night outside the house where you find Neb.
>The thief who appears on the roof of the Copper Coronet.
>The thief upstairs from where you first get the quest from the shadow thieves (the one with the glasses of identification).
>The seller in the main thieves guild.
>The front guy in Maevar's guildhouse.
>I would presume it works with some of the sellers in the Underdark, but don't remember for sure. It doesn't work with the guys you encounter wen you first get there.
you could even solo the whole game with a single class thief (hell, somebody even wrote a guide on it), but... it's just not gonna be fun. at least not as fun when you're facing the challenges Baldur's Gate throws at you with a strong, competent CHARNAME.
Sorry, I had no idea. Here is the proper link :
http://www.gamefaqs.com/pc/663934-baldurs-gate-ii-enhanced-edition/faqs/68513
If you search bg2ee on gamefaq that is the only complete faq they have (ie strategy plus complete walkthrough)
I'm assuming you're doing BG1--if so, then the only way I really got around was to look up in a FAQ on what the hell to do for the first few chapters until you get "released into the open world (I'm also really bad at video games in general). If you're doing BG2, then it's a little more intuitive, but the FAQ is still helpful to get through the opening dungeon. This one is good: http://www.gamefaqs.com/pc/663933-baldurs-gate-enhanced-edition/faqs/66126
As far as characters go, you've got the right idea: 3 for you, 3 for her. I've never done it that way, I've always played where I control just my character, with 6 people. But I think what probably would work best is to put a magic user in both of your characters, so that when you pause to select and cast a spell, then both of you are actually doing something--otherwise if one of you is controlling fighters only, then you just sit and wait for the other player to select/cast spells.
I believe splitting up will have zero negative consequences or impact the gameplay significantly... except maybe making it a little harder for the first few fights.
Other things: I think having 3 fighters, 1 thief, 1 mage, and 1 cleric is the ideal setup (but that's just for me). Talk to everyone, sometimes they'll give you a quest or an item. Explore the area to discover anything significant that you may have to come back to later. Never pass up on an enemy, because you need XP early on to level up. Loot and sell EVERYTHING. The FAQ linked to above has a section on general tips, I'd read that too.
Unless you start digging through PC gamer archives or something like that, I don't think there's going to be much out there. There wasn't that kind of journalism back then.
Not BG related, but a good book in that area: Blood, Sweat, and Pixels
This is a bit deeper than it first appears - it's been years since I saw anybody post about it though, so allow me to spoil the easter egg a bit:
>!A quote from the SCS mod files themselves:!<
>!@50074 = ~The Emergent Multiverse~ // NOTE TO TRANSLATORS: this item is an Easter Egg (a joke). 'The Emergent Multiverse' is a real book, which I wrote (it's an academic text on quantum mechanics), and the quote in the item description is from the real book. So far as I know it hasn't been translated yet! Possibly it makes sense to leave the title and quote in English? Up to you.!<

If you want more info on the D&D rules, here are a couple of good resources:
http://www.gamefaqs.com/pc/75251-baldurs-gate/faqs/8566 - Dan Simpson's AD&D Rules Faq
This is a good overview of the D&D rules, specifically how THAC0 and Armor Class, and Saving Throws work. It also gives some basic info on multiclassing and spell progression.
http://www.pocketplane.net/volothamp/bgguide.htm - Volothamp's Comeuppance
This is a very comprehensive guide to baldur's gate, geared towards new players. While there's no one section which deals specifically with AD&D rules, the Glossary, Character Creation, and Items sections will probably be useful. Appendix A also has some very useful tables.
According to this site there are only a couple enemies in SoA that require a weapon with higher than +3 enchantment (Kangaxx in demilich form and the lesser demon lord). The same post claims even in ToB there's not a ton that requires great than a +3.
There's a bit of interesting theorycrafting math on the 23 vs 25 strength thing as well. the TL;DR: being that the difference between +4 and +7 THAC0 is more important to the rogue's crummy base THAC0 than having extra APR with a lesser THAC0.
Maybe check against this for EE requierments: http://www.systemrequirementslab.com/cyri/requirements/baldurs-gate-enhanced-edition/11562
This guy created a dropbox page for everyone to upload custom portraits from baldurs gate, other franchises, or even portraits made by players themselves. There's a thread on the official forums, but here is the link:
I got the same ones and love them. I found some gold pictures that went perfect with them if you're interested:
Here's how mine turned out: https://i.imgur.com/F1SJaiW.jpeg
Per userame wigglesg on beamdog forums, "The save files for BG1 should be in "Android\data\com.beamdog.baldursgateenhancededition\files\save". They need to be copied to "Android\data\com.beamdog.baldursgateiienhancededition\files\save" using any file management app (there is no need to connect to a PC). I found I the folder wasn't created until after I edited the settings and quit the application (the Baldur.ini file is added to this folder and I think it is only saved when you quit).
Edit: The "com.beamdog" folder names might not be entirely accurate but should be close enough."
Now, the current version pf Android is really fucky about file security, so only some file explorers are able to even view those folders. I use this one. I'm able to edit BG files, plus the explorer has two tabs open so copying from one folder to another is super simple.
Lemme know if this works for you.
1 - Yes, but it would be more accurate to say that Pillars/Tyranny are like Baldur's Gate and other Infinity Engine games combat wise.
2 - Yes, largely because the Enhanced Editions are the ones that are easily purchasable, designed to play on modern systems, and come with a lot of quality of life improvements that make the games more enjoyable to play. If you want the original editions I believe you still get them for free with purchase of the Enhanced Editions on GOG.com
3 - Not really, they share a world but are removed from the Baldur's Gate story by being in a different region of the world and I think they happen in a different time period. You don't really lose anything by not playing Icewind Dale if you play Baldur's Gate.
here's a really good guide i've been reading that explains dual and multiclassing and shows the exp needed for each class to level up. Source
In BG2 you can certainly do solo runs with just a thief. Though and often gimmicky, but doable. So, yes, thief are very powerful! I'm guessing this should translate to BG1 quite well.
http://www.gamefaqs.com/pc/470765-baldurs-gate-ii-throne-of-bhaal/faqs/27550 is a very good source for information on thiefs.
Sorry, I've mainly played BG2, but I think this should still be somewhat helpful :)
This might help? http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/258273-baldurs-gate-ii-shadows-of-amn/41689299
EDIT: And here’s a list of what she should be saying: http://www.ironworksforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=8416
I like the additional NPC's / banter and romance packs the giberlings 3 and pocketplanegroup have to offer, I'm running a assassin/mage through the whole BGT now, this is my 5th play through and I have a few people I've never ran with before and different conversations led to some interesting decision making. I guess that's mainly for replay value since I haven't felt like I'm doing the same thing over and over at all, but it seems you have trouble just getting through the game as it is. I think if you get to baldurs gate the city and realize the fuckton of exploring you have to do with hardly any guidance with make you not want to Finnish.
I can recommend looking at Dan Simpsons walk through, its pretty legendary and can get you through the game without missing a single gem or gold piece quite quickly. here is link! GOOD LUCK!!
yea i own the GoG copy of it. it shows like this under my library.

like i said, i don't use gog galaxy and just download the install files on my PC, then i run the install.
maybe someone that uses galaxy can help you more w/that question
In addition, this is essentially deepfakes-for-audio -- I too would be very wary with this type of thing.
Now, if we were talking about something similar to This Person Does Not Exist where you'd essentially just 'mix up' the speech of huge numbers of people and create new voices out of that, then I'd be much less wary. (Still kinda creepy, tbh, but much less ethically challenging.)
As TheDr says, your easiest solution would just be to install and play the classic BG1 version. If you bought BGEE from GoG.com, you also get a free copy of BG1 classic as well. I'm not sure if Steam has a similar deal going.
There actually ARE CRPGs based off the Dragonlance setting, and set around the War of the Lance, no less. :) However, they're all fairly old by this point and depending on how tolerant you are of (extreme) retro games, you may or may not be able to get into them.
If you go to GoG.com and search for Dragonlance games, you'll turn up a few, mostly from the Gold Box era.
I don't remember if Tanis was a Fighter or Ranger, but Flint is a Fighter, yes. Tas was a Thief, Caramon was also a Fighter, Raistlin is a Mage, and Sturm is a Knight of the Crown (a specialty class found only in Dragonlance that has some similarities with paladins, but lack many of their more traditional divine powers.)
One what? Shadowkeeper? The latest one (that is actually called Enhanced Edition Keeper) works alright, I just tested it. (to give you BGEE items, like I said, not SoD ones)
EDIT: Also, in case you didn't know, you now need to write "C:CreateItem" instead of "CLUAConsole:CreateItem" etc for cheats to work. NO idea why they decided to change that out of nowhere!
Here’s the site I got the rom from if you’re interested in seeing it: Baldur’s Gate PSX. It uses 3 discs and while I haven’t played much of this version of the game, I know what I saw and this is Baldur’s Gate. Thanks for any help you or anyone else might be able to give regarding info about this game.
I don't know about a "normal run" but I put 96 hours into a single completionist playthrough of BG:EE.
I've put 79 into BG2:EE, and feel as though I have made a dent in the game. But there is still much yet to to, and Throne of Baal as well.
Here's a link with some other stats.
It is definitely supposed to work that way. You don't HAVE to do it like that, but yes, that's fairly standard. Some of the stupidly hard mods may script hostile encounters when you rest to force you to be careful about how you use your abilities.

^ That's dan simpsons FAQ for 2e D&D, which is what BG and BG2 were based on.
Ah, okay, that makes more sense now...
In that case, I would use CLUAConsole:CreateItem("itemcode",number) to cheat the items you want to carry over with the correct BG2 versions.
Sorcerers.net taught me a lot although it's not always clear the differences between low level and high level play. Also this Gamefaqs spell guide is very good. Watch out for spoilers though.
I remember reading a thread a while back where someone had soloed the game with a Wizard Slayer, using a couple of difficulty-spiking mods like Ascension and Sword Coast Stratagems. Unfortunately I can't find the specific link.
For those interested, a guide to the Solo Insane Poverty run can be found here.
I like the idea very much, ambitious as it is. Are you aware of Evan Bergeron's 5E LaTeX Template? I think that it would be a good method for typesetting this in a way that looks professional and is very shareable and editable between groups. I am not familiar with that HomeBrew site, so if in the end you think that that is more practical I would give it a try.

I would be willing to volunteer some of my time to this provided scheduling is very flexible. I think that this would require strong organizational skills to complete. If you can break down the project into lists of bitesize chunks, I could probably manage an afternoon per week, maybe two afternoons.
As to what I bring to the table, I am good at typesetting with the aforementioned LaTex, and also have strong writing skills. My 5E familiarity is fairly mediocre though. I do however own copies of most of the books and plan to play more in the future, should I find a decent group. I also know every inch of Baldur's Gate 2, especially Shadows of Amn. I have also read the Baldur's Gate books and have a strong grasp of forgotten realms lore. I know BG1 less well but have completed it at least a dozen times.
I do not think you will be able to acquire the requisite licenses to release this professionally, but it would still be a fun project that I wouldn't mind taking a limited role in.
I just checked Amazon. There are only download codes and Guide books on the US site, but the German Amazon site has a boxed version with a DVD, a 80 page handbook, the soundtrack (apparently downloadable) and a poster. I don't know if the book is in German or in English, but the game can be switched from German to English in the menu, and the narration and voices are in English anyways. I guess you could go for that if you're hyped enough, or wait and see if an English boxed version hits the US stores. You could also check out http://eternity.obsidian.net/ . They sell the game directly as well, maybe you can get a boxed version from there.
Yeah...running PC games on a Mac is a pain in the butt, and it adds a couple levels of difficulty if you're not a technical whiz.
There are ways you could get it running right now, or you can wait a couple months for EE to be released (in which case you'll be able to run it natively).
Wine is the next option. It's a program that was originally written for Linux that lets Linux/MacOS machines run Windows programs. Go to gog.com, buy the current versions of BG 1+2. If you have Wine configured correctly, then in the terminal, you can run "wine <program name>.exe", and it'll run the program like it's on Windows. Wine's just a little bit of a pain to set up.
A virtual machine would require you to have a copy of Windows (98, 2000, XP, Vista, 7...it's all good). A "VM" is a "computer in a computer". It would let you run Windows like it was an app on your Mac, and then you install and run BG inside there. The downside is that you'd need a Windows license. The upside is that if you can get your head around running two OSes at the same time, it's easier to set up a VM to run BG than it is to set up Wine (in my experience).
Um... does it matter? She is there for barely anytime anyway. :p Well, there is always fan art and from there figure out which one is her portrait in the files and replace it under the same name.
I'm pretty sure it was mentioned in the game manual that clay golems are immune to slashing/piercing weapons. I'll give it a look-see.
EDIT: Yeah, page 34 of the game manual. https://imgur.com/P3GDP
> I use a program called VMWareFusion which allows you to install an operating system and run it within MacOS (in its own window, or fullscreen if you want). The program costs around $80 and you will need the install disk for the other OS (though I'm sure we all know some ways around this).
Or you can use VirtualBox which is free.
Alright, we have tested GameRanger and it gave him an error saying:
DirectPlay is not installed correctly. Download and install DirectX >> << http://www.GameRanger.com/download/directx/ >> << Failed to Start Game (Error: 10) >>
He of course followed the link, installed it, and it did not fix the problem. We tried installing older DirectX files as well from when DirectPlay still existed with no success. Is there anything else we should be trying to fix this particular issue?
BG1EE for $10. Normally $20.
If you're gonna buy them I'd recommend looking for deals if you have some days before trying. Both BG1EE and BG2EE were $5 each on Amazon a few days ago.
On that note keep in mind that, though they are the same "game", continuity wise, they can be drastically different experiences jumping in. You can carry your BG1 char to BG2 and continue the adventure so that means 1) you start at level one in BG1 and 2) you'll start out already leveled in BG2. You don't NEED to play BG1 before BG2, as BG2 will allow you to make a new already leveled character.
I bring that up because some people may have issues jumping into one or the other. BG1 can seem slow and tedious due to low level D&D mechanics but BG2 can seem too complicated due to having many more spells/abilities available right from the get-go and not "easing" the player into the systems.
So take that for what it is. If you're down to make a wimp of a character and take them from zero to hero (almost literally) then I'd recommend starting on BG1 and carry through to BG2.
If you're afraid of getting bored with low level stuff/don't mind being bombarded with spells and abilities at the beginning/want to immediately get down to the good stuff of the BG saga, maybe start with BG2.
It is available on Steam however its $19.99 on steam and $4.99 through Amazon and from what I read its the same game so I figured I could save money. I believe someone even recommended doing it that way on this sub which is how I even knew it was available on Amazon.
There are some good books set in the Dragons of Summer Flame time. My favorite is The Last Thane. Takes place in Thorbardin and I believe occurs concurrent with The Doom Brigade which follows the last battalion of Draconians trying to save their race.
https://www.amazon.com/Last-Thane-Dragonlance-Chaos-Wars/dp/0786911727
Unless you have a specific reason for wanting to play the vanilla game, I'd recommend just going with the Enhanced Edition. It's on sale right now on Amazon for $5 which is the lowest price I've ever seen it. They give you a Steam key so it's basically the same as buying it directly from Steam.
Can you please use something like https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.winzip.android&hl=en to zip the save and then attach it at support.baldursgate.com - you can do it from mobile as well.
We would appreciate it grealy as our QA tried to repro but it worked as expected for them on iOS and Android with a clean save.
That mouse is 98 Gs and about 8 buttons short of true master race status.
There's also collections and individual games on Amazon for under $15 if it bothers you.
There's no way to get the old games, nosirree....
The IP holder would probably prefer something that's actively being worked on to represent their property.
The Beamdog crew has a few key people... who developed the BG games. So...
The book is from 1994 http://www.amazon.com/Arena-Magic-The-Gathering-No/dp/0061054240
It's not based on Dominaria (i.e. it's not Gerrard and crew). It's an universe on its own with new characters that happen to be an MTG world, it's not tied to any particular set.
What's your platform? All three games (including IWD:EE) are less than $10 total in the Google Play store right now. They accept Paypal and credit card.
If that's not acceptable, I'm curious to know what country you are in.
Edit: Also, Amazon.
I just started playing BG2 EE on an 8" tablet, runs smooth for me with 2gb RAM and 1.3Ghz processor. Screen size is good as well(tried on my 5" phone and it was playable, but idk how long I can go with that small of a screen).
The save files are indeed compatible between Android and PC. I currently use Folder Sync: File Syncing to sync my save folders to seamlessly play between my PC and tablet.
