The amount of content is between Baldur's Gate I (http://howlongtobeat.com/game.php?id=808) and Baldur's Gate II (http://howlongtobeat.com/game.php?id=810).
~170 maps I believe.
Baldur's Gate II had around ~ 250 maps, but Baldur's Gate II was insanely, insanely massively massive. In summary, game is PACKED with content. Easily 60+ hours of content.
sure, that's correct for the first one, but then you add 5 times as much for the others
When percentages say additive, it means that 5% + 5% is 10% increased damage, meaning 110% of base, meaning base*1.10
What you're doing is saying that 5% + 5% equals 1.05 + 1.05 = 2.10 = 210% of base
that's just not how it works
Here's an example of how multiplicative vs additive in Path of Exile works https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/261646
edit: Look at it from a more concrete example, let's take the first two example increases for additive;
in the text somewhere it would say
that's +77% damage right? looks pretty good! you pick both passives
from your formula that means your raw damage would be (1.27+1.50)*100 = 277
so that 27% and that 50% somehow accounted for a 177% increase (277% of base)? That's way too much when it should be a 77% increase (177% of base, meaning 177 result)?
The reason is because you only need to add the base once, after that the percentages. So it should be (1+0.27+0.50)*100 = 177
I'm in the same position as you. I started a couple of days ago, and this game really is as good as they say it is. I love it! I'm a little bit of a perfectionist, so I have started over a couple of times after a few hours of play just to get a feel for which type of char I want to play. Definitely read everything in the game, and if you don't like the class/race etc. of your main, don't be afraid to start over...in my opinion.
p.s. read some guides - i just read this one and it helped me figure out what to expect from this game.
I remember reading a dev article saying that it's too late to get your name in the credits, but you can still be included in the expansions. I'll look for it when I have the chance. Edit* Found it. Here
>If you have in-game rewards (like an NPC, an item, or even backer credits) we most likely will be unable to fulfill those rewards because the game is close to releasing,
The only comments Obsidian has made regarding Steam is that Pillars would not require it (being DRM-free), and that you could redeem your digital copy through the service, if you choose (or gog.com). Personally, I doubt that you will be able to activate a boxed copy on Steam, as usually that is only possible with games that require the Steam client, and because Obsidian is pledged to making the game truly DRM-free.
Unless, you pledged for a boxed copy. The difference is that many people pledged for a boxed copy of the game, and Obsidian said that the boxed copies would pretty much not be available on launch day, March 26th, because they want to ship without requiring a day 1 patch (i.e. they want to ship boxed games with v1.0 as opposed to whatever version they had at the time of the CD pressing). So, as to not make those backers wait for the game to be produced, Obsidian offered a free digital copy to anyone that pledged for the boxed copy. I ordered this after I finished the game, because like you, I wanted as many answers as possible (and I'm a fantasy nerd). It's a beautiful book.

If money's tight, I'm sure there's a scan out there.
I have AutoHotKey and a script that turns basically any bordered window into a borderless window. Super useful for lots of games that don't do borderless window. Works like a champ here too. I use this script, but there are lots of them out there.
No idea if there's a bug preventing the game itself from doing it, but AHK is a decent workaround for the moment at least.
Cloud sync doesn't work between ios and windows.
The save paths are ~/Library/Application Support/Pillars of Eternity/Saved Games/ on ios and %USERPROFILE%\Saved Games\Pillars of Eternity\ on windows.
Saves should be cross platform compatible, so I would make sure that you have the correct paths and that google drive finished syncing before you transfered.
You could try to make a fresh game on windows and overwrite it with your previous saves.

> It was really cool how that all worked, which is why I hope there is more of that kind of thing in Deadfire.
That is super interesting, and much more engaging than just following the marker.
I was reading the book The Power of Habit, and it was talking about how when running through a habit loop, your brain has the same kind of activity as if you are sleeping. So just much less active than when you are really working on something. And it reminded me of this discussion of following quest markers. When you get into the habit of get a quest > follow markers > resolve quest, it can become a habit and be much less engaging.
Just in case you're not in the US and need the time converted:
~18 hours from this comment.
> I think, when it comes to these things, you have to go back to what the creators intended.
No, that's intentional fallacy
One of the first things you learn in an undergraduate-level literature or film class is that the author's intent doesn't matter. The work is what it is, and no consideration should be given to what the author intended.
> I also think that it's silly if you're trying to speak up for the potential offense of others.
Why are you assuming anything about me? If you assume anyone taking part in reddit is a white male then you might be a little racist there yourself...
But your machine and your processor, from your OP, are not current-year tech.
> I don't have a very fast computer
and
>My pc is over 5 years old. Intel q9300 at 2.5 GHz.
This is a very accurate age, that CPU is from Q4 of 2008.
Based on these, I think you have unrealistic expectations of your computer. Pillars of Eternity is intended to provide a similar experience to the Infinity Engine games. However, PoE itself is not an Infinity Engine game. Your CPU technically doesn't even meet the minimum requirements (Core i3 at 2.5GHz, compared to your previous generation Core 2 Quad).
Through sheer force of the quad core architecture, it manages to perform about as well as the Core i3 listed in minimums, but it's not anywhere close to the recommended hardware:
Comparison: http://www.cpubenchmark.net/compare.php?cmp[]=1044&cmp[]=750&cmp[]=793
Your SSD may be fast (and it's very likely the reason your loads are as fast as they are); but it can't carry your aging hardware.
Bottom line: your expectations need downward adjustment.
Your character may get some special social traits. It's not like gameplay traits, he'll just be known as cruel or merciful or passionate etc. You can also make a plenty of evil decisions starting from the very beginning. However the main quest doesn't allow you to be "evil". Neither does it involve anything "good". If you imagine your character being a bastard you're not forced to do anything out of character.
Yes it's good. The story is complete.
There are skill range indicators. Not sure about timers, do you mean cooldown?
Until they fix this, you could try and use the program Swap Screen
You can lock your cursor to your main screen, and toogle it on and off with a hotkey.
If you look trough their updates at their website they had at least one update on how combat works.
There's also this: PoE tabletop RPG and card game in the works.
Not that I'm aware of. Besides which, I fully expect launch day differences that would invalidate that info, too.
EDIT: Ah, here is the manual's errata page: http://eternity.obsidian.net/manual/errata
I'm not sure what you mean. What would prove it "technologically speaking" to you? There are tons of shipped games that use Unity with a great variety of features of gameplay. Endless Space is a nice 4X. BattleStar Galactica online is a space combat MMO that can handle decent size battles. Fusion Fall is another MMO, though a bit simpler. Kerbal Space program, though not released, is perfectly functional with seamless space flight and planet landings, as well as extensive mod support. A few months ago, there was a tech demo that had 1000 players in a single fps match. There are platformers like Rochard, and tons of other stuff (incomplete list). Why do you feel the engine is unproven?
Grab yourself Notepad++ (https://notepad-plus-plus.org/) and then go to
\PillarsofEternityIIdeadfire\PillarsOfEternityII_Data\exported\design\gamedata
and then open up statuseffects.gamedatabundle with notepad++. Turn on text wrapping (one of the little icons on the taskbar at the top of notepad++) and then use control+F to search for Pollaxe_Engaging_Threat_SE_DamageMult. A line or 2 after that is the damage multiplier "BaseValue":0.85,". Just change that to 1 and it should remove the damage penalty.
Let me know if you need any more help!
OP is a spammer who makes money off Amazon affiliate links on the linked Twitter account.
The same product link without any affiliate tag: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00UXI36FU $17.99, seems to be restricted to certain regions.
GOG has the same price currently, which you may prefer if you have an existing library: https://www.gog.com/game/pillars_of_eternity_hero_edition
Another CRPG you may try out later is Underrail, it's entirely turn-based when in combat, but the movement and such outside of it is real-time. Keep in mind, that unlike a lot of CRPGs released today, Underrail is very much like the old-school ones, not just in graphics, but in how much it will punish bad builds and decisions made while in combat, you don't want to go using an electroshock pistol (fires a bolt of electricity that bounces off of targets, allied, neutral, and hostile) at a group of coil spiders, they'll just get buffed while taking no damage. The traps range from annoying (bear traps) to terrifying (higher end land mines can wipe chunks off your health if you fail to roll an evasion check/sport tough enough armor) to special one-hit kills (floor tiles that can be bypassed/shut down by finding the right switches/computer terminals). It's like Fallout 2's younger cousin who improves a lot on combat and build diversity, much like how Pillars of Eternity 2 is Baldur's Gate 2's younger cousin that improves on those concepts as well. https://store.steampowered.com/app/250520/UnderRail/ It's getting it's own expansion soon, but the game is at a nice cheap $15.
That's a shame, GOG charge over 50 Australian dollars for the most basic version, so much for their opposition to geopricing. I just remembered, if you want to support Obsidian, Humble Bundle gives the biggest cut, 90% https://www.humblebundle.com/store/p/pillarsofeternity_hero_storefront
Just posting here 7 years later to say this fixed it for me.
Disconnecting from ExpressVPN client fixed it for me. I'm guessing if you're coming here in the future it will probably be your VPN client.
I use Visual Studio Code to open the files: https://code.visualstudio.com/
Once you have it, just pick the file you want to change and rename it so to include the .json extension; that'll allow you to open it in VSC. From there, it should be fairly obvious what to change in order to obtain the effect you desire.
If what you want is to change reload times exclusively, you can delete abilities.gamedatabundle as that will not affect reload times at all. In attacks.gamedatabundle, you'll want to delete the stuff at the top that pertains to recovery time and just keep the stuff that pertains to reload times.
PoE2 recently became available in gamepass for xbox. If you're on PC, the game+dlcs version is also pretty heavily discounted right now.
Sure can
Wow so as big as Tales of Sword Coast then, wow that should not be split into 2. Thats alot less game then i thought I was getting.
Well there's some here:
http://eternity.obsidian.net/eternity/media
You can probably access all the art in the game if you go into its subfolders and open the unity-files. Maybe there's an application online that can do that idk.
There was a fan-kit available before I think but I can't find it online now. Maybe the Obsidian community staff can help out.
As recent posts have mentioned, the posted manual is apparently wildly out of date. An errata page has been posted, though it may not yet address your question. http://eternity.obsidian.net/manual/errata

Hello, it appears you tried to put a link in a title, since most users cant click these I have placed it here for you
^I ^am ^a ^bot ^if ^you ^have ^any ^suggestions ^dm ^me
Early on I saw 3 zero score reviews on metacritic, looks like one of them was deleted, and same was on GOG.com. That was within 2 hours of game release (and those players said it's a waste of money, so I doubt they were in beta/preordered etc. or were given alpha/beta access.)
It's just mind boggling. I don't think there's any reason to give this game a 0. Yet, there's many on metacritic.
Considering the price of graphics cards right now due to elevated demand and limited supply, I can't really recommend a desktop build. Its just too expensive.
That puts me in the strange situation of recommending a gaming laptop. Of the available ones right now that I have experience with, I think the Lenovo Legion 5 is probably the best budget gaming laptop for the money. Reasonably strong processor paired with a 1660 is pretty goo for under $1000. It has a somewhat flimsy plastic build for a laptop, but thats typical for Lenovo in that price range.
I also recently bought and configured an Eluktronics Mech-15 G3 for my wife. It can be purchased with a 2070 and an intel 10875H for about $1500, and I am very satisfied with the performance, cooling and durability. I added a 2 tb drive and more memory, which makes it just an all around great setup.
Either of these laptops will play POE/Deadfire without issue, just be aware that there are stuttering/frame time issues in Deadfire that you can reduce, but likely not eliminate due to issues with the Unity engine.

Amazon lists a March 31, 2019 release date. Can’t find anywhere else on the web that confirms this though.
Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire - PlayStation 4 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B079Q9B86V/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_Hc.oCbYQB4HCX
Edit: proofreading
it seems to have been quietly postponed to the 31st of March, 2019.
The porting is being handled by and external company, Red Cerberus, If I recall correctly.
It's currently $17.99 on Amazon right now: ~~https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00UXI36FU?tag=isthcom0a-20&th=1~~
Edit: Just ended, but you can keep an eye on it here; https://isthereanydeal.com/#/page:game/info?plain=pillarsofeternityheroedition
You mean a physical version, or pdf version? There are both. Depending on which version of the game you purchased there may be several different pdfs.
I want to purchase this one, but the entire pdf was packaged with the game, and I'm not spending that much for an incomplete guide because of updates and DLC.
http://www.amazon.com/Pillars-Eternity-Collectors-Strategy-Official/dp/1101898232
For your $25 tier, the two-part expansion will need to be a separate purchase, I imagine for another $25-$30. It's not available to buy yet.
The only remaining extras (most are no longer available) are here. The World Almanac is pretty good, but you can get a nice, full colour hard back copy on Amazon for the same price so I don't think the digital copy is worth it.
> I initially had trouble with some names, but the game usually someone speak out the names of whatever creature or place that I may have trouble pronouncing. Besides those 3 or 4 enemies, do you have other examples of such spellings? I cannot immediately think of any.
If there were a way to pull text from the game without replaying Act 1 and reading every encounter, ALT+TABing over to Notepad to keep a list, maybe. These are the ones which a) I remember, and b) I remember the game's odd spelling.
Frankly, after the Castle quest in Guilded Vale, I was so fed-up with the "special snowflake" and "fantasy name syndrome" spelling of everything, that I just stopped caring about the lore. I guess that's why I'm so annoyed by it, because I want to read and I want to know the lore, but I just can't get passed the stupid alternative spelling choices they made.
In other words, there's a reason that there isn't a Tolkein's Silmarillion - the Text Adventure game. It would be fucking murderous - and it's a world we're all pretty passably familiar with at this point. (and to be fair, if the game's setting and lore were available as a novel or series of novels, I would have read them so that I knew the various bits; I did exactly this when I read Revelation before playing Mass Effect)
That book is actually sold separately! It's on Amazon for about $15. I got a tier with the box and not the book, so I'm definitely considering picking it up to complete the set!
