Hopefully this will breathe new life into the game and bring back old players as well as new, it really deserves a second chance even though it had some flaws.
Pretty interesting how they will handle the new currency when it becomes free to play:
>There will also be a new currency called Omnibits that can both be bought and found on all mobs in the world. So even completely free players will be able to save up their Omnibits to buy items from the store. The goal, Chad and Mike reminded me, is to make it so that there’s no forced reason to spend money… just incentive and fun reasons to do so. Progression and endgame success will still take skill and teamwork, not a fat wallet.
I'm 16 and my brother is 11. We've both always liked Star Wars. We saw all the movies a while ago and we played some of the games including the LEGO games, the Force Unleashed games, and Battlefront 2. He's also seen most of the Clone Wars TV show while I've only seen a couple of episodes. I also remember us playing some Star Wars MMO (not SWTOR) when the Clone Wars TV show started called Star Wars: Clone Wars Adventures.
Recently though, Disney's marketing has gotten us really hyped about Star Wars and now neither of us can get enough. Over our winter break we watched a Star Wars movie a day (skipping the animated Clone Wars) after we went to see Episode VII. After that we've both been reading a bunch of random Star Wars lore online and I've started to watch Rebels (which I actually like). I've installed KOTOR and got a bunch of mods from a stickied post on /r/kotor (I messed up and accidentally overwrote some files - hopefully that doesn't fuck it up too much. I'm shit at modding and I normally stay away from this stuff but seeing as KOTOR is kinda old I thought I'd do it). We both also installed SW:TOR (took all of yesterday) and we played it all day today.
While I've always liked Star Wars, I've never really loved the universe as much as I do now. I'm hyped about the upcoming movies and I hope new awesome trilogies (that don't seem like they're just cash-cows) keep getting pumped out until I die. I don't want it to continue after that though. I want to see it all.
Because of my recent cravings for Star Wars I also want to get more into the Legends stuff but there's so much of it that it seems kind of intimidating.
I don't know why I typed all that actually. It seems kind of irrelevant now that I read your comment again. I guess I just felt like saying that? Oh well. Maybe I should post this to /r/offmychest.
In a recent interview it was implied Pillars is out for now.
> MMORPG: What is next for Pillars of Eternity -- can gamers consider the game done or are there more expansions or even a sequel planned?
> Josh: Pillars of Eternity is all wrapped up. It's been a great experience, but we'd like to move on to a new project. We'd love to make a sequel and have a ton of ideas for ways we can improve on Pillars, but that's a way off.
In a new post on the World of Warcraft community site, the dev team has announced a pair of significant changes to upcoming patch 7.2 and the requirements to 'earn' flying in Legion's Broken Isles.
Originally, players would have been required to complete a lengthy multi-achievement / quest series called Breaching the Tomb that included on piece (Shard Times quest) requiring 50,000 Nethershards to finish. The drp rate of Nethershards in 7.2 where they first begin to show up was very low making gathering 50,000 prohibitive. Developers have now backtracked on that requirement, reducing it to 2500 Nethershards and when approaching Khadgar to turn it in, he sheepishly only asks for 1. Additionally, Breaching the Tomb would have required players to complete each character's Order Hall campaign and earn exalted status with the forces of Legionfall. Completing Breaching the Tomb has now been removed as a barrier to flying.
On PTR, players can now unlock flying in the Broken Isles by completing the following:
Broken Isle Pathfinder, Part 1
Explore the Broken Shore - find all points of interest on the Broken Shore
Defender of the Broken Isles - complete Demon Assault in each of the four zones where they are present
Legionfall Commander - earn Revered status with the Legionfall faction
EVE Online devs have said one of the criteria they use when designing new features is the Time To Penis (TTP) metric - how long it will take someone to use the new feature to create a penis in game. It is frighteningly short in many cases.
Remember when Mythic overcharged people for Warhammer Online subscription a few years back?
For the few people where the banks didn't catch it, it was a complete shitshow. I remember reading their forums, someone was literally panicking because the resulting overdraft had left his family nothing to live on and he had a newborn to take care of.
Ok, ok, ok... so he did this before.
In this article, long before Dark Knight and Machinist were announced, he dropped both of them.
I even speculated Machinist when I found that article and no one believed me!
Calling it now - Red Mage confirmed!
MMORPG.com writes: >This new update is set for late summer of 2017.
And on Twitter the article's author further clarified:
>Late summer is a tentative goal and not a guarantee. The main goal is 2017.
Which lines up with the PoE trailer simply ending with "2017". So basically this Summer is the optimistic prediction and "sometime in 2017" the broader but more realistic timeframe.
> Also he's a former warcraft dev
That's correct: he left Blizzard in 2005 (less than a year after WoW launched) to form Red5, a company from which he was fired for gross incompetence in 2013. He doesn't seem to think highly of his work at Blizzard, either.
Wooden Potatoes always seems to try defend ArenaNet, and in this case I believe him to be wrong. Although he is critical of them in this, I still believe him to be defending them too much. He tries to highlight anyway he can that ANet could salvage this - but I don't think we should just keep throwing them lifelines. ANet said "updates every 2 weeks", then they have mid-season breaks and maybe 1 hour of content delivered. This is not what the players wanted, or desired. Players want the return of repeatable content - i.e dragon bash minigame, the original haloween Reapers Rumble. If these were added in bulk, we would see the player base spread out and play the content. You want examples? Fractals, World Bosses and Dungeons. All repeatable content that cause players to spread.
The thing that annoys me is "we'll look into it".
When asked in a Live QA: "Can Communal Bonfires get a WXP option?"
Devon Carver: "We haven't discussed this, but I'll raise it and see if it is something we could do as I think that is a great idea."
Yet nothing was added. This would be a very small job and would have affected the WvW player base greatly. Can we stop the false promises/hope, stop throwing lifelines to ANet, call them out and force legitimate responses. For a "300 man" development team GW2 seems to grow at a very small rate, and little content added means that either they're doing something in the background or most of the team is idle. Can we just get clarification on this?
You can.
http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/game/473/feature/9340/page/2
Colin Johanson: ''Correct, and then you can swap back and forth, you can say “My character's a druid, but I'm going to play as a ranger today.” It's very similar to changing out your skills and traits, you can go in and change whenever you want, as long as you're out of combat.''
This refers to the "Combat Upgrade", called the greatest MMO failure of all time by MMORPG.com.
Kinda on topic, MMORPG.com just published Top 35 MMOs of All Time list, and ESO didn't even enter it!?!
Here's the list:
The list was actually a result of 40 man poll, and here's what Bill Murphy (site's editor and the one that submitted the list) had to say:
"Frankly, I'm shocked too. ESO was up there for me, but we polled around 40 writers and staffers, and not enough voted for ESO. Here's hoping it makes it in when we do this again in a couple years. "
Strange stuff.
That's not correct from what I understand - Project Legion turned into Project Nova when CCP realised they were running into the limitations of their Unreal Engine 3 build and decided to rewrite it in Unreal 4: http://www.mmorpg.com/mobile/features.cfm?read=10787&page=1
I don't think it's a coincidence that the first review was posted on October 18th - the exact same day manzes/jcrg99 (who has pretty much devoted his life to talking shit about CIG) posted it to an MMO forum. And I don't think it's a coincidence that one of the other reviews misspelled "morale" in the exact same way. It could be, but I don't think it is.
Blizzard did it a bit before them actually. They won a lawsuit against Honorbuddy in January. Blizzard didn't sue for damages though.
Lol well he's wrong. Black Desert and Player Unknown's Battleground had "console launch exclusive" as well and they are already confirmed for PS4. It literally means they are timed exclusives. Microsoft worded it this way to intentionally make it confusing to figure out if games are actually exclusive or not. They could have been clear and just said timed exclusive but that would have shown clearly how weak their line up actually is.
http://www.psu.com/news/32833/battlegrounds-ps4-release-confirmed
http://www.mmorpg.com/black-desert-online/news/console-port-confirmed-by-bdo-devs-1000043727
I'd chalk it more up to a few different things. Everyone agrees with what he said about the tutorial island. It's not good. It's not gripping. Character progression and different forms of content don't come in until later - things like that. He could certainly be lazy and/or biased, as others have said (well, and as he more or less admitted in his article), but I don't think we should leap to that as our defense of the game.
If you want the best review I've seen so far (and since we're doing a media round-up on TF, I've seen a lot of them), check out Bill Murphy at MMORPG's.

Relevant bit:
>Slow to Come to Boil
>ESO is a slow building MMORPG. It’s got a great intro tutorial sequence, don’t get me wrong, but it’ll be several hours before you fill up your hotbar with the meager five skills you have as active-use (until you open a second weapon at level 15). So for a while, just like any TES game, all you’ll be doing is blocking and swinging (or firing) your weapons. As I stated above, it wasn’t until level 10 or so when crafting, adventuring, exploring, and building my character all started to fall into place. It’s also not the fastest game to level in. While not as slow-paced as say the original EQ, you won’t be level 50 in ESO within a week (well, most of you won’t be). After about 12 hours of play, I’m level 10 with my character and that feels like a snail’s pace compared to other recent titles.
Edit: Also, check out this post I just made.
Edit 2: My embargo was lifted this afternoon. Ask me shit in my AMA here: http://www.reddit.com/r/elderscrollsonline/comments/1xbetf/hi_im_isarii_of_tamriel_foundry_and_my_media/
NCSOFT has confirmed that they are "restructuring key operations". >While decisions like this are always hard, they are necessary as we begin the implementation of a new strategy designed to strengthen our footing as a leader in global entertainment. Moving forward, we will continue to focus on our core development capabilities and the intellectual properties (WildStar, Aion, Lineage, and Guild Wars franchises) that have made NCSOFT what it is today. However, we are looking to move into new business segments like mobile and tablet games as well as explore emerging technologies. Again, the decision to reduce staff was not an easy one, and we sincerely wish everyone well in their next endeavors.

ok well this guys prediction was wrong the very next quarter when WoW subscriptions went up in q3 2013. Obviously its easy to see where his prediction comes from but i don't think its a simple as mapping it out like he does.

There were more than one delay.
Beta was delayed because of the ability-system rework (April, 2016):
> Jacobs explained that CSE discovered its ability system was unable to properly handle the complicated skill and class design the team was throwing at it, necessitating a refactoring of the underlying ability code. “We are going to be able to preserve a lot of the underlying code but have to change some aspects of it and the pipeline that an ability has to go through from button push to active in the game,” he told us.
Then there was an alpha delay (March, 2015).
> Mark Jacobs says that the team worked all day up to the alpha deadline to try to fix a crashing bug and database issue but couldn’t get it sorted out before the test was scheduled to start. “‘Faking it’ or simply extending our deadline by a few days is, quite frankly, unacceptable to us,” he posted to the community. “Thus, we are going to delay alpha while we track down the one major crashing issue and the new database issue.”
And there were a lot of smaller delays because of lacking in manpower, for example (end of April, 2016):
> Mark: While the ability system is a major reason we are delaying the opening of Beta 1, it isn’t the only reason. As far as having enough programmers, nope, we certainly don’t. […] I want to add a total of four programmers to the team before the end of the summer. If we can do that, we will have enough programmers to accomplish everything we want to accomplish in the following year.
Taking from this thread, a comment by Anidamo:
They gave us an update on this very recently.
>MMORPG.com: What is the state of DirectX11 and add-on support for FFXIV? Do you know when we can expect to see either come online?
>Naoki Yoshida: So in terms of DirectX11, I have reviewed it, and it’s now in the stage of optimization. Nvidia is cooperating with the optimization as well, so their technical staff has been helping out with that. So if you have a graphics card that supports DirectX11 you will be able to have a higher quality than DirectX9. In terms of timing wise, we need to not only consider the technical aspects but also the overall promotion of it, and our partnership with Nvidia and other chipmakers, and collaborate with them so we need to have an overall plan. That’s where we’re currently at, the planning phases of the promotional elements as well. Hopefully, by the end of the year, we’re hoping to put out a visual reference where you can see how DirectX11 will look.
>In terms of addons, we’re still progressing on it but are experiencing a bit of a delay. We are moving along though, so if you could wait for additional information to come.
What happened to allowing ultimate upgrade tokens to be used at level 1? Having them taking up inventory space for unleveled heroes sucks
Using Ultimate Upgrade tokens at level 1 is something we definitely want to do.
The backend tech is a bit complicated since a hero's Ultimate Power was coded slightly different from regular powers, so modifying it before you unlock it is currently not supported.
However, I am going to reopen the discussion right now (sending an email) and see if the new tech we have added over the months makes this easier.
It's not only legal, it's laudable. Eve is a game that allows every player to run their own organised crime ring, do insider trading, corporate espionage or market manipulation to their heart's content (or until someone bigger stops you)
In fact, it's not just allowed, it's encouraged.
The most important question in the world! Will Punchclops still be able to punch after the Cyclops review? And do the devs still read the comic?
Punchclops will indeed be able to punch after this review. His review keeps his Martial Arts tree (and makes it slightly better / more fun), but greatly expands his Leadership tree to make it A+ cool. His review also includes some amazing new VFX that are in development. I expect it will take another 12 weeks or so in the pipeline, but perhaps faster. Yes, the devs definitely read comics and are more excited than ever about tying in with Marvel editorial department.
Some time ago there was an interesting article on mmorpg.com regarding what we are doing against "zerging": http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/game/958/feature/9816/Albion-Online-How-Albion-Online-is-Combating-the-Zerg.html
Three Key Examples are:
In most areas we show a huge amount of players on the minimap so you can avoid them if you want to.
The territories you can own in the open world can be only lost in a 5vs5 battle.
We also have events like our "chests" which happen at the same time in several areas in the world of Albion Online so that it rather makes sense to split your team up.
The article covers a few more. Important: We are not against large battles. We just did implement some mechanics which make 5 vs 100 less attractive and less likely to happen.
2nd Question Of course everything in Albion Online has a durability and on death items loose a certain percentage of their durability.
Has there been any discussion for enhanced costumes to have alternate animations for attacks? (e.g. Superior Spiderman using his extra arms, etc)
I believe some of them do, but it is something we would like to do more of in the future. It's a great suggestion.
You are actually incorrect they have decided that the game is complete today and are calling it a foundation release
Sergey Titov: We’re launching what we call the “Foundation Release” on December 17th. IE –we won’t be in Beta anymore
>11) The 25 minute surrender timer has been a point of debate among some people in the community, especially in the event that one or more people leave the game, AFK, or never connect. Does Riot have any plans to take a look at the surrender timer in general or in the event someone leaves so players do not have to spend 25 minutes in a game they have little chance to win?
>Yes. At the moment the IP and XP rewards are balanced for full games. The last thing we want to do is encourage people to simply surrender at the first sign of difficulty. Some of the most memorable experiences among players we have talked to have been when teams have come back against tough odds. We don't want to discourage players who are willing to fight it out to just abandon their game as quickly as possible. One of the things we want to do is look at the IP and XP rewards and relate them more closely to game time. That will allow us to bring earlier surrenders into the game without actually making early surrenders the best way to earn XP and IP.

I have been holding on to the game for 3 years now(founder, played off and on), and the game has had a rough past. Most veterans, myself included, will tell you that the golden time of firefall has passed(and red5 studios has decided that they wont be going back to that version of the game). The game has a lot of flaws, but Red5 is taking a new direction with the game. Check out some of the more recent Firefall news, especially this article: http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/loadNews/36534/Its-Groove-Found-Its-Future-Bright
I have stuck with Firefall for so long because I love the combat, art style and pvp. Red5 is adding a lot of new content and tuning in-game systems for a major game-revamp coming early next year. It wouldn't hurt to get into it. Most of the community considers the game "dormant" until this big patch comes.
There was an interview with eric dodds where he basically said the reason they werent working on it was that it would completely throw out the balance of the game, and that they didnt feel it would be something the game needed, and i feel the same way I think it would just throw the balance completely out.
Here is the link to the interview http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/game/974/feature/8885/Hearthstone-Heroes-of-Warcraft-Eric-Dodds-on-New-Classes-Class-Balance-and-More.html
I think it's implied that even with the changes to the respawn system, players killed everything so fast it did not matter.
> Another interesting development was in finding out just what elements would not work in less idealistic terms. Long has widely touted the idea of a “virtual ecosystem” that would be present in UO. Boiled to its simple elements, the game would have ecosystems, a rabbit would eat grass, a wolf wood eat the rabbits, and so on, until at some point the chain was broken, and then the radius for whatever creature would widen, meaning a pack of hungry beasts might invade a town looking for a source of food. Something similar was expected of a dragon, that when hoarding treasures might look further afield and terrorise a settlement. It is a groundbreaking concept, and yet unfortunately failed as Garriott explained “the players killed the creatures so fast that there was no way to crank the respawn up high enough to give it any relevance. Sadly we removed it” – proving that you can plan all you want, but players won’t always play in idealistic terms.
This happened over the course of several months, but MMORPG.com just posted an article about my long-term revenge on the (now defunct) Lawful Rebellion alliance!
MMORPG.com, 8.6/10
Edit: Such hype... when an 8.6 is disappointing compared to other reviews, it's a damn good day.

Staging for War

The Pact has set up a staging area in the Silverwastes, a new area in the Maguuma Wastes nearer to Mordremoth’s domain. Players must be on guard when reporting to Camp Resolve to observe Pact efforts as they will be in enemy territory. Mysterious ruins in the area will provide key battleground locations in the ongoing war against Mordremoth’s expanding armies. Players will fight to hold strategic locations, call in Pact allies for aid and take a stand against the growing threat.·

Silverwastes Treasures

While players fight against the Mordrem hordes in the Silverwastes, they will accumulate new Bandit Crests, which can be traded into Pact Vendors for Sinister gear recipes, crafting materials, and more – including pieces of the brand-new Carapace armor set.
I am one of the people that wants an expansion. I would be more than satisfied if they announced an expansion. I would be ecstatic. Which, honestly, if investment firms are to be trusted (and seeing as giving out bad information to people in the stock world is a great way to get blackballed) one has already been announced, even if not by ArenaNet. Seeing as NCSoft tells them to jump and ANet has to say how high, the likelihood is pretty large.
Just to add a couple more notes: it'll also be at least 15 jumps to get from one end of the known universe to another, and potentially 5-30 minutes to navigate unknown jump points. I'd also take most of these numbers - including the 30 minutes per system figure - with a grain of salt, since: a) you'll be dropped out of cruise speed and into combat instances along the way, and b) it was very early in development and somewhat predated the current cruise speed plan.
Round 3 is live. Good luck everyone! ~~and use 1 account only, please.~~
^(I can't believe that this site is giving away so many codes.)
Being good will be rewarding sometime in the future, when the Enforcer part of the justice system is added.
We've got a great interview with the game's senior design director, Daniel Erickson.

Huh, this time it was MMORPG.com providing the misleading information.
http://www.mmorpg.com/newsroom.cfm/read/30245/Harry-Potter-Online-in-development-sort-of.html
The video where they argue how they have rights to make the game has gotten chopped down by the internet lumberjack, sadly.
[A long post about it](/r/Games/comments/1tuf3c/this_is_why_mark_kern_was_removed_as_ceo_by_red_5)
so it's kind of hot-button topic but will team-ups get increased functionalities or improvements in the future? They're not that tanky (even when geared for it), people mainly use them as passives and rarely see all the VO/model work, their AI needs improving etc
We like where Team-Ups are now, but I have heard this feedback from a few people. I agree that it would be nice to see and hear them more. I like the way that BRB comes down and casts lightning. It would be fun he said more. I could see us doing more of that in the future. As for the Tank-status, that wasn't really the intent. You are the hero in this game and it's nice to have someone help out, but the focus should be on you.
With X-23 on the way, will the next/younger generation of New X-men (Surge, Dust, Pixie), Runaways or Young Avengers be on the way next?
They are on the long-term list of heroes and Team-Ups options. Noriko's powers would look cool in game and we could do a lot of fancy lightning animations.
Has there been any talk about adding in a shortcut key or faster way to craft?
Having to individually craft over 50 Fully Loaded Hotdogs was not much fun.
Did you do that all at once? O.o Yes -- a revamp to the crafting UI is in the works. There are some easy QoL fixes that could help a bunch. We will also be making some overall improvements to the system.
The schedule for heroes being released for the rest of the year looks pretty much set with Rogue, Nova, Magneto, Juggernaut and most likely Venom to round out the year. Where does X-23 fit in this year, if at all?
Who said we do one character a month? We did two this month ;)
STOP! If you are about to start and have not created an account yet, then first go to alienware website and get yourself an invite code of 1000 gold and 7 days premium for EU players. If you are an NA player get yourself a free light tank T2 and 500 gold and 3 days premium.

Great post @Crunkzzor. ZOS is pretty clear about their philosophy. I have faith in them to stick with it, especially after today's release. http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/game/821/feature/8282/page/1
This vid @ 3.30 http://youtu.be/hD-t_GvYBv4 says it all very very clearly, they've always been going for this, and they seem to be sticking with it. Good for them.
This was in use before toon town, and that is not the etymology. It was very common in EQ 1 at the very least, and possibly earlier. After a little digging, this forum http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/post/961408#961408 seems to think it originated in "the realm" where you characters look very cartoony : http://www.realmserver.com/images/realm/art/screenshots/a101_lg.jpg
I noticed here that his youtube channel was mentioned in the paperwork as well. He may have gone through and removed a lot of things to spare himself from any litigation.
> "My vote for LOTRO is a vote against ESO."
If that doesn't describe the unwarranted hate that this game gets, I don't know what does.
> They would need to change a lot and I didn't see anything innovative at all
They changed a lot.
Just look here http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/game/821/feature/9258/A-Look-Back-at-2014.html or here http://www.reddit.com/r/elderscrollsonline/wiki/returning
Also innovation is not all that matters. Why is something better if you were the first one to do it? What really matters are good mechanics and ESO did a good job in implementing a single player like combat system and quests like we are used from TES.

The game is unplayable and the only chance we have of getting servers is to play it.
>The young Asura's the ward of well-known golemancer Zojja, and as such, has a way with golems. Actually, she rides one, which is a convenient way to follow Scarlet around Tyria and show up in the Shiverpeaks just in time for the fireworks to begin.
Plus she acts as a kid with "I'm behaving" and "It wasn't me!" when you talk to her, so I assume it's a child :)

Wondering when we might get the Earth X Thor costume, also when is Thor's 52 review scheduled to hit?
Earth X Thor is still going through development, although it already looks very sweet. Thor's 52 review is scheduled for after Jean and Cyclops. It has already started in the early stages. The entire process of a level 52 review is almost as long as a new hero (since every team in the studio is involved) but it's humming along.
Any words about Venom? He will be in christmas? any spil from his trees? :3 HE is my favorite character <3 PLEASE
Venom is probably going to be ready for Christmas and he will be glorious.
This might be a simple user error on my part but it seems there is currently no way to clear a F1-F6 hotkey assignments once it has been assigned other then using a Retcon device. This seems like a big oversight being forced to use an item that cost a good amount of splinters or Gs to clear a keybind that should be an option to begin with. I accidently assigned one and thought I could just hit F1 again to clear it out but soon learned the only way is to Retcon the character which I found odd so now I am stuck with that power as I rather not use a Retcon for something that seems like a bug.
I reported this a bug recently. I'm not sure where it is on the fix list, but it is a known issue that we are going to try and resolve. It may even be fixed in the patch today. Thanks!
In light of #JanetVanCrime, will you consider the number of people who might want to play Wasp in your game?
I like your name. :) Wasp has always been on the short list of heroes to get into Marvel Heroes.
In fact, we love her so much we got a brand new character model for her (which looks amazing) and are working on the script for her team-up and eventually playable version. Short answer: She's at the top of the list and will stay at the top of the list!
MMORPG.com says it'll be a MMORPG, and surprisingly it's hype rating is still lower than that of Entropia Universe, but it is doing much better than Travian. And wow, check out how the fee is still TBD - guessing F2P must still be on the table?
Yes, definitely worth starting now -
Its a top 15 rated game on mmorpg http://www.mmorpg.com/games-list/show/all/sCol/rankHype/sOrder/desc and if you look at the release dates for all the other high ranked games, Neverwinter is one of the newer ones.
If you check steam stats for launches, its been pretty much the same over the past 2 years, no decline in users.
Playing casually you can just enjoy the game and go at your own pace.
Its mainly a pve game and you can completely ignore pvp no problem.
Its actually not pay to win, just pay to max your character faster. There's an in game currency convertor so everything in the cash shop can be saved up for and bought with in-game currency, even the monthly VIP which gives things like instant teleport between maps, portable mailbox etc.
New content comes out every few months, and I heard this is even part of the contract with the D&D franchise people so more and more should keep coming.
There's only one server and each map gets split into instances of 20-50 players or so. As they fill up, more get created. Also the zone chat lets you talk to all instances at once, then you can port across to party with people from any other instance as needed.
Btw I'm also a casual player and been playing for about 9 months. I played more hours per day to start with but now I just play an hour or so per day and still have content to go through, just doing the bits I want when in the mood.
tl:dr yes
>Guild Wars 2: Path Of Fire Devs Dive Into Elite Specializations [Exclusive]
I don't think they know what that word means..
http://www.mmorpg.com/guild-wars-2/videos/path-of-fire-elite-specializations-dev-diary-1000005503
This is all I found:
> The Samurai tries something new with FFXIV, beginning his life at level 50. In order to play the Samurai, you’ll need to have at least played through the FFXIV 2.0 story (as well as the Red Mage). The Praetorium story is what leads up to the 2.0 regions of the game, and it’s here that the Red Mage and Samurai guild masters can be found and used to play the jobs. Source
No, this is absolutely 100% false. Chris himself confirmed that 'the old way' of running maps is still possible.
relevant quote: > As Chris put it, “95% of our game is spent on the randomized map generation you do after the story has been completed… it only made sense to finally make an expansion focused on enhancing this system.” While Wilson told me players could go ahead and keep playing the endgame like they always have while ignoring the whole new atlas system, as our talk continued it became clear that only the foolish would do so.
>EVE's still got me. It really is player-driven, and the interactions with people can't be replicated anywhere else. But I really want to feel that wonder of finding a new thing
Here's something Raph Koster said in a recent interview about the game Crowfall that I think it really speaks to the heart of this.
>There were several efforts trying to push new directions, but WoW shifted everything. Right before, we had Galaxies pushing simulated worlds and The Sims Online pushing a mass market social world. But Galaxies disappointed and Sims Online disappointed. Neither broke through to the mass market. Then WoW comes around, streamlines the hell out of EverQuest, and captures 90% of the market very, very quickly in the space of days after launching.
>When you see something like that, the money starts to chase that, and that's what happened for the next ten years. Given the rising budgets and the need to compete with WoW, that's where all of the dollars went. Other branches on the family tree just didn't get tended, they didn't get watered, and they didn't get any attention.
>Eventually, we started rediscovering those branches in very different ways. Today, Grand Theft Auto has more in common with Galaxies than with many single-player games. Minecraft is very clearly a great-great-grandchild of that kind of online world. And World of Tanks is very clearly a great-great-grandchild of the PvP MMO. The definition of MMO had narrowed to WoW, but the ideas didn't go away; they've actually been very successful, just elsewhere.
If you don't know much about EVE Online (which I don't), my friend wrote this article talking about some of the crazy societies that emerge and all the drama that can take place within the game.
It's incredible.
"What’s more is that the team is also working very hard on finding a way to make it so that every profession has access to every weapon and their own weapon skills for those previously locked weapons. Engineer plus Hammer? Check. Again, there’s no specific timeline for this, but a new progression system is coming."
Interview can be found here.
this is the part that hinted towards it.
"What’s more is that the team is also working very kitten finding a way to make it so that every profession has access to every weapon and their own weapon skills for those previously locked weapons. Engineer plus Hammer? Check. Again, there’s no specific timeline for this, but a new progression system is coming. Finally those level 80s you’ve been hoarding will get some use, as they’ll be adding more and more skills and traits to the game for years to come and on a regular basis for players to obtain."
I know this isn't 100% what's going to happen and it would be really weird to have like a guardian using daggers or a warrior with a staff but it is hope. They have said multiple times that they don't want to bring in new classes so they are kinda forced to add new skills and weapons are skills.
There's also going to be a video interview all on progression and itemization at 10am EST here: http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/game/542/view/videos/play/3417/Talking-Progression-with-Michael-Chan.html
http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/game/473/feature/6574/The-Legendary-Endgame.html
No, the endgame just doesn't take the form of a short list of dungeons you can play over and over on different levels of difficulty. The best part is that at max level you can go back to any content and still be rewarded, and it will still be challenging. There ARE endgame dungeons, but at end-game you'll be able to go to any of the dungeons in the entirety of the game. Beyond that there is Orr, which is a series of island that will have a ton of event webs, creating this constant PvE war in the zone, with some crazy dungeon at the end.
There's also legendary gear, which all look really awesome but don't really give you some crazy advantage over other people. It's different. It's not endgame like any other MMORPG.
Personally I spent years playing mostly RvR in DAoC and WAR, and I think I'll do the same with WvW. That in itself is enough endgame for me, haha. I think the huge amount of content, crafting, sPvP, and WvW will keep people busy for a long time. At the very least until the next expansion comes out. I think this game has a lot of staying power.
Not according to official statements from Neowiz. They were working on making improvements to the game and wanted to give those improvements the time they needed to get it right, but Aeria Games wanted to release the game sooner. So they parted ways so they could do exactly what they're doing now, and thank god for that because Aeria sucks anyway.

Guild Wars 2 could satisfy this. The base game is free right now, but an expansion called Path of Fire came out last month that is really great. I've been exploring the maps in the new expansion, and there has been so many cool areas that I just stumble upon. For example, I found a portal that one of the mounts can go through that led me to a chest full of loot. The loot wasn't the cool part, the cool part was looking up and seeing this.
There is an article that came out recently that touches on this too: http://www.mmorpg.com/guild-wars-2/columns/the-joys-of-exploring-1000012100
On the topic of gathering stuff, Guild Wars 2 has a pretty large collection system where you collect items from specific locations or in specific ways to complete a collection. Usually you get some sort of reward for completing the collection as well.
If you do choose to play, when you start don't treat leveling as a typical MMO. "Hearts" as the equivalent of quest hubs where you do quests, but bee-lining them can get pretty boring. Just take your time and explore the zone and you'll get plenty of XP while diversifying the leveling process.
Could you bring up anything that says anything ill regarding profits? I did a Google and I found this: http://www.mmorpg.com/city-of-heroes/general-articles/profitable-or-not-1000007015
"CoH was profitable even before they converted to Free to Play but were even more so after the conversion."
"The studio’s total annual operating cost was 4 million USD. They grossed 12 million in revenue annually."
"NCSoft paid $8 million USD to buy CoH. They wanted $80 million USD to sell it. They only value it at $3 million for tax purposes."
>how the fuck is this so rare in MMOs?
Thematic consistency.
You typically have to go to an eastern themed MMO to find eastern themed character classes. The Silk Road for example is basically all monks, samurai, and spiritualists without a knight, mage, or priest to be found anywhere.
There are absolute shit tons of eastern MMOs that have them and you can't throw a stone without hitting a Korean, Chinese, or Japense fantasy-styled MMO that has a samurai or samurai-like swordsman.
Hell, even Maplestory has Hayato.
From the get go, we have always been fully aware that in an open world PvP focussed sandbox MMORPG, there is a risk that certain factions become dominant.
Hence, Albion Online was designed in such a way as to minimize the risk of that happening. It's a core part of the game's DNA. Here is a short summary:
Flat gear power curve
High end gear is extremely rare, and can and will be lost in PvP, hence even the most powerful guilds won't be able to field it on a consistent basis.
Flat character power curve
Making sure that guild conquerable assets do not provide a purely passive income, but have to be actively used and protected
Guild vs Guild terrory combat being limited to 5 players per side, hence allowing smaller guilds to compete with larger guilds.
Making lower end resources an essential part of the game's economy, even when crafting high end items, hence making sure that there is a constant flow of money from the high end to the low end of the player base.
Synchronising PvP targets such as treasure chests, world bosses, etc, making sure that zerging them done is generally not worth it, hence encouraging large groups to split up into smaller groups.
These are some examples of what we have in place to prevent the issue you describe above.
Now, don't get me wrong: of course, well organized guilds will always have an advantage over more casual players - it would be weird if that was not the case. However, it is extremely unlikely - and has never happened in any of your tests, two of which lasted around 6 months - that a single faction will dominate the world.
The DLC is going to cost $9.99.
In addition to the paid races, the free update will include leaders, Antaran attacks, and the return of independent planets.

> GW2 has over the last year and a half constantly cut down on gameplay releases
? there was an insane patch in April that was "a second take on the addon" which made it incredibly fun. Now in July they released the 'Out of the shadows' patch that added an entirely new map (Bloodstone Fen) with a bunch of other super nice additions/overhauls to the game and on September 20th the next release is coming out (Ring of Fire!) with another new map and content. So?
GW2 is a B2P game (base game is even F2P), they need to make money too, you know? And most people will confirm that GW2 has one of the fairest and best cash shops in any MMORPG out there.
Looks like Colin Johanson disagrees with you there. That interview is more current than the video from the OP btw.
More info here:
Red 5's CEO's share, Zhu, who is also CEO of The9, worth 45M. Other employees confirming stuff and Red 5's e-mail response to employees:
"Hi Team, I regret to inform you that Red5 currently does not have the funds necessary to meet our payroll scheduled for today Friday, December 25. Due to this, there will not be payroll paid this week. Red5 and The9, our parent company, is currently working to resolve this, during the holidays, as soon as possible. We are hopeful we'll be able to resolve this and will update the team immediately."
HeroEngine is pretty terrible, it's old style VB layer coding for the scripting portion and the staff is incredibly unhelpful. We purchased a license and they mucked it up and wouldn't swap servers for our test env, claimed we didn't check a box on the order form, then refused to refund us or swap the server without additional charges. The overall feel after all that was a bait-and-switch. Trying to put up a huge facade of 'this stuff could be really cool look at what people have done with it' but then the actual backend stuff is a mess and the team was not friendly.
This was 1-2 years ago, your experience may vary. I will never do business with Idea Fabrik Plc if I can help it.
EDIT: Also as an update repopulation just announced that Idea Fabrik Plc is having financial issues that could affect repopulation uptime. http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/loadNews/37303/Hero-Engine-Troubles-Could-Cause-Downtime
> It's no secret that you guys are notorious for crying wolf about 'laying the groundwork' for the next big feature instead of maintaining the systems that are already in place.
I'm not normally a fan of treating every little thing a developer says as an iron-clad promise, but I do think this Colin quote is relevant:
> That being said, I’d also add one of the goals of Heart of Thorns was to address every major game system to ensure they had all the core components we need for the future of the game. Our goal was to ensure we didn’t really need to tweak any major game system again after this expansion and our focus could be entirely on adding new content, and building on top of – rather than expanding outward systemically.
I'm willing to believe in that statement.
Guys and gals , relax , they <em>WILL ADD FOR SURE</em> multi-queue .
In general they do discuss more account wide stuff here . So go there and demand !
As far as lore concerned , meh . More people cba about it ( I DO CARE ) . What 99% of the people want is moar phat lewt :-(
For all of you not understanding, to discourage zerging certain abilities will do more damage the more players they hit.
Other non-combat systems have been implemented to discourage zerging as well.
avoid these greedy scumbags. research pathfinder online a little and you will see all the recent BS that surrounds that company/people in decision making roles. Plus they really charged a ridiculous amount of money to alpha test AND required a fucking sub fee...for an EARLY ALPHA!!! This guy even BLAMED his backers for not recruiting enough players. Look at YOUR GAME and your MARKETING DEPARTMENT buddy, not your backers. What a greedy tool! If you are in to having to pay pay pay for a terrible game experience then this game is for you!...we gotta pay to test... pay for a guild.... pay for a house.... pay for shop.... pay a sub while testing..What a blatant slimy cash grab-kindly FUCK OFF!
Check this, TLDR is that CU will have PvE, and it will naturally grow after launch.
A couple of selected quotes:
...the PVE in this game looks more innovative and challenging than the "PVE" games.
...what they call PvE is really just bad game mechanics in WoW and its subsequent clones.
The finale was fierce between LOTRO who fence off WoW and EVE, as well as many people in the hate wagon so to speak, but ESO community took the gold.

Are you basing that off some salty attitude or what?
SWTOR made $139m dollars in 2013, second in profit only to World of Warcraft for the western market.
The game was launched using the untested hero engine and was an incredible pain in the ass to work on. For the most part it has been ironed out and is an enjoyable experience.
The circlejerk ended in 2012.
This is something that I have really wanted to ask for a while now, but haven't had the chance, so I'll ask now.
1. Will Iron Fist ever be playable? He's a great character, and arguably stronger than Luke Cage. I would love to smash some baddies with Danny's Chi.
2. Will White Tiger Ava Ayala or Any other version of White Tiger ever be available as a team up or playable character? I think both could be excellent additions to the roster, and I would definitely pick them up. Thanks for taking the time to answer this if you choose to. If not, thanks for the opportunity to ask!
1. We have a huge number of Iron Fist fans in the office and at Marvel. He is on the short list for new heroes and we have some cool ideas for his mechanics. I am 100% sure he would be in either the next Advance Pack or the one afterwards.
2. I could see a version of White Tiger as a team-up in the future, but we have a list of Team-Ups we want to release beforehand. The amount of Team-Up Heroes is extremely deep and very exciting.
RMT is present in the vast majority of MMOs, whether you like it or not. Currently it takes the form of a black market, which involves a lot of shady activities, such as botting, account cracking, credit card fraud, various scams, and even DDoS attacks. Banning the parties involved from the game, or implementing various game mechanics to combat RMT isn't going to change anything, because as long as there is money to be made, there will be a market for it, and as long as there is a competitive advantage to it, there will be buyers. So instead of penalizing it, RMT should be legalized and regulated, that way honest players can still get what they want, while the incentive for some of the shadier activities involved can be decreased by a lot.
One interesting approach that I've read about recently is to use blockchain as a means of transferring ingame goods. I believe this method has great potential. http://www.mmorpg.com/general-articles/our-first-look-at-chimaeras-blockchain-based-gaming-platform-sponsored-1000012164
Future
Uncertain. AFAIK there are no immediate plans for it to disappear anytime but its a bit shaky at the high end raiding scene atm. There is pretty much ZERO to do while levelling, all the action is at end game.
Performance
Although they have made great strides with performance optimization recently it still has a ways to go. It uses a DirectX 9 Gamebro engine which unfortunately does show it's age at times.
F2P Model
Originally subscription, it went F2P in 2013, then it went B2P and now it's back to F2P. I'm not even sure Trion themselves know what they want to do with it anymore.
Community
They recently implemented a change where you are automatically moved to a populated server on log in. Still, i suspect most people are only interested in reaching endgame.
Recommendation
Play it for a bit and see if you like it, if you do then yay, if not, you havn't lost much but time.
If it turns out you don't like it, and are looking for more MMO's to try, here is a nice big list.
If you haven't invested any money into this game, I'd highly recommend moving to NA. A week is not much, and you will not regret this decision.
Also, get an invite code from someone on NA and you will get T5 Texas once you unlock tech-tree T6 ship!
Edit: if it's still active, you could combine invite code with this http://www.mmorpg.com/giveaways/world-of-warships-holiday-pack-giveaway-1000000794 to get Konig Albert for free (T3 German BB) with some extra swag.
Edit 2: Yes it is still active. Create an account with the code from that site, then before you start the NA client, get an invite code and accept invitation. Now you will enjoy both benefits :)
Actually, the number is more based on just sales, not even registered accounts.
