This has been a common and recurring problem with the game's launcher over the years. Major patches seem to have a way of bringing it back.
Fortunately, this means there have been lots of threads on the official forum and elsewhere, where players have been able to share what worked for them.
Having some idea of what to look for, I found a forum thread from March of this year where someone posted a fix that seemed to work for a lot of other players. I've seen the same advice come up in years past, so it can probably be considered tried and true.
Quote from the helpful poster:
"I deleted the Eualas folder, and the version files in C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\BioWare\Star Wars-The Old Republic\ directory
file names like "patcher2021.version" and "patcher2020.version"
That forum thread (link goes to SWTOR.com):

Good luck!
Yes this happens on the daily and you won't get the promised credits plus for the duration of your subscription he will get cartel coins as well. And bioware can't do anything about it it because it's not against TOS. Read more about it here:
A spreadsheet is being updated here. Im not the one to create or update it. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/pub?key=0ArCSGLnwZLADdGxYdlhEejBFclBjR3l1N29OaW1kYUE
The opening page is the current state and can be compared to pre-nerf page. Basically missions that created ~95 credits per minute are now creating 2 to 14 credits per minute. Massive nerf overall.
What they said was something every week or two on the website. The most recent website post was a well written short story Seeing Red. Next week is supposed to be an interview with one of the devs about developing the game followed by a retrospective on Manaan the following week.
Regarding in game updates, I don't recall if they said anything about those. Although there were crumbs in some datamined files indicating that the next short quest is being worked on. It might be the only one before LotS or there could be another, but we don't have enough information to know for sure at this point.
Believe it or not, the solution is to change your Origin password. SWTOR is linked to Origin, with Origin being authoritative. And you can change your password on Origin without a security key!
After that's done, it may take a few minutes to propagate to SWTOR, but after that you can log in using the new password, and remove your security key.
(We had someone ask about this issue on OotiniCast, and another listener provided the solution.)

That's most of the world bosses and datacrons on Empire/shared side.
This one is just datacrons for both sides, if you were interested in that:
http://forum.alterswtor.com/index.php?/topic/458-datacron-location-list/
There doesn't need to be a 'winner' of the database race and in fact I think you shouldn't even want there to be one - although I appreciate you wanting it to be me :) The competition is a good thing!
The folks at Zam certainly have a lot of advantages over a site like mine, and the traffic knotor receives is still tiny compared to torhead who receives between 1.5M and 2M pageviews a day according to quantcast. But Knotor is growing as more people hear about the site. And if it weren't for sites like mine, what incentive would they have to improve? When was the last time wowhead added any innovative new feature to their site? If I can force them to spend more of their resources on improving torhead, then all the better for everyone playing the game in my opinion.
Kit! Made by Two Suns Casting, site is due to come back on the 31st. It was recasted from the 3.75in HK-47 figure from a few years back and upscaled to 6in. Elbow and knee joints are from a K2-SO figure, hip and shoulder joints from L3-37, hands from TFA Kylo Ren and neck, torso and ankle joints from this kit.
I am pretty sure he meant a countdown clock for the start of today's event. Something like this?
Yeah, but what they did not tell you is that they are doubling the personal Conquest goal to 100k, as seen on the PTS and not denied by David Staats in a recent post when the change was brought to light on the forums.
You can buy 1 month and cancel it a week later, making it an even smaller investment ($15).
Otherwise, the Amazon one is the best deal ($40 for 90d + extra CC), followed by the Origin one ($30 for 60d + extra CC). These also sometimes go on sale, so watch them around black friday/cyber monday and christmas. I think I bought my Origin a year or two ago for just over $20.
his one just charges you $5 for an armor set and mount you'll probably not use.
> That means that the sub numbers they report are the actual sub numbers.
Sub numbers inflated by the following definition:
>active subscribers — defined as those paying for subscriptions along with players who are still in the free month of trials after buying the game.
Source: http://www.marketwatch.com/story/ea-sales-beat-targets-star-wars-takes-hit-2012-05-07?dist=afterbell
So those 1.3m subs aren't actually 1.3m paid subs.
You also need to consider the free month they gave to a lot of players. That 1.3 million figure is as inflated as they possibly could get.

Origin recently did away with selling disc copies of games. They are going completely digital with their store:

For those wanting an Imperial version, here's a table I made a while ago.
Contains both republic and imperial names of missions and all the data relevant to them.
Also, the Merciless Seeker's set can drop from the Eyeless Rakghoul event boss, although the drop rate must be very low.
AOL is a piece of shit and deserved to die off in the 90s. Why didnt they just sell Joystiq to another company if they didnt want to support it? Who the hell shuts down a massive gaming journalism company just like that?

Everything. Some seem to like it, some hate it, some are in the middle.
>What is the games content cycle like for patches and such?
https://www.swtor.com/patchnotes
You can see update frequency here. Single decimal (6.1, 6.2, 6.3 etc) are the ones where we get new content. The ones with two decimals or letters are bug fixes and stuff.
Currently removed from the vendor (along with all other companion rewards on the vendor) due to a bug that made her not be usable if you had gotten to KotFE. She will be restored to the vendor in a future patch.
In the next patch they will be simplifying the vendor's inventory rotation, and she will be in the Group D week inventory.
There have been no further information other than....
Anything more than that is either speculation or just made up. If you wish to know more, please look at the SWTOR Dev tracker. https://www.swtor.com/community/devtracker.php
I think OP was probably referring to this PTS post in which they said
>flexibility in ability choices will be heavily restricted for this first phase of testing
I read it as removing the fixed loadouts in future phases, so we may be more "free" to choose the abilities we want, while still keeping the general goal or removing abilities from all classes.
No idea how they intend to achieve that, I still feel like they are totally out of touch with how the game actually plays.

Err... have you traded much before? The price will have mostly taken into account predicted figures already, so unless this is a lot more than anyone expected (which it may be, I'll admit I wasn't paying that much attention) your profit won't be that impressive. Sorry.
Edit: That said, I just looked up the EA chart for the last year ( http://finance.yahoo.com/echarts?s=EA+Interactive#symbol=EA;range=1y ) and it's not at all what I would have expected to see. >[H]as anyone heard or seen anything in relation to new content for the upcoming year?
Not as of yet. There are two probable reasons as to why.
I, personally, feel that both are valid options and are not mutually exclusive to one another (aka, they both could be right). Last year, people were in a 'panic' as Kotaku article made it sound like SWTOR was very close to having the servers yanked out. No one from the Dev team made a comment either way which added more fuel to the fire.
Finally, Keith made a post on 1/26/2018 and said the following as to why there was little communication in Dec 2017 and Jan 2018.
> For the many of you who have asked privately, yes, I'm doing great, but December and January are typically very busy months for us with all the planning activities.
https://www.swtor.com/community/showpost.php?p=9526850&postcount=1
So, I would assume that the same thing applies to 2019 and that we could see the first roadmap around mid-February which is when the first 2018 roadmap came out.
While this may technically be true, WoW outlined their raid launch timeline in advance of Legion's release: https://worldofwarcraft.com/en-us/news/20243893/world-of-warcraft-legion-release-schedule
The normal/heroic difficulties were released on 9/20 and then Mythic difficulty releasing on 9/27.
For any type of raider, WoW made it absolutely clear when they were getting new raids by (1) having people beta test the raids and (2) announcing their release dates before the expansion even was released.
For casual/less hardcore people this is absolutely fine because you only have to wait a month for the raid and there is still a bunch of stuff to do in Dungeons and elsewhere with the expansion.
Even for hardcore raiders, this is amazing because (1) you aren't beat to progression just because someone leveled faster than you and (2) you know the exact dates a month in advance to take off/prepare for the progression race.
Your statement of WoW not releasing raids with Legion's launch is in no way comparable to Bioware and KotET since we know of no one testing raids nor have been given any indication that raids are coming at expansion launch or shortly thereafter. To contrary, every bit of information we do have, such as datamined info and Bioware's past actions, contradict the notion of new raids in 5.0.

If you can, try replacing (or getting someone who is versed in building/repairing PCs to replace) the thermal paste covering the GPU (and CPU while you're there).
Here's a video guide on what to do if you're feeling brave.
If you do attempt it, remember to use a good thermal paste - Arctic MX-4 is generally the cheapest you can get on Amazon that's any good, there are other options, though.
i think the origin deal is far better: STAR WARS™: The Old Republic™ - Knights of the Eternal Throne – Origin Eternal Empire Pac 19.99 for 60 days https://www.origin.com/mex/en-us/store/star-wars/star-wars-the-old-republic/deluxe-pack
"BioWare has also discussed ending development on the multiplayer online game Star Wars: The Old Republic, those sources said, although one person familiar with the studio told me recently that plans are still up in the air." - Jason Shreier Kotaku
https://kotaku.com/bioware-doubles-down-on-anthem-as-pressure-mounts-1822380989
That doesn't sound like a studio looking to "cook something for Swtor" other than possibly ending the game.
Not silent, just busy taking a victory lap in the press rather than addressing an extremely upset community.
There was a dev note today that with 7.0 we will get titles for the sets we've completely collected. So that's not much but it's something.
Just a reminder you can turn off these types of posts if you don't want to see them. Downloading Reddit Enhancement Suite will allow you to filter out the "questions" and "new/returning player" categories.
But part of the problem is that vets start less topics, and because it's easy to ask noob questions... it's hard to put effort and create thought-proving posts. We get good discussions going in the news/update posts, but lots of other topics have been beaten like a dead horse and even vets don't want to talk about them. What do you want to talk about? PvP balancing? The GTN market for milllon credit+ items? Strategies for Master mode? These kinds of topics only can be answered by a very small percentage of players... so they tend to take place in smaller closed groups of like-minded people. This is a "general" forum, we got no speciality.
That's not true, once you reach a certain point you have to buy quest packs if you don't want to mob grind. Also, F2P players only get 1 character per server versus. You can compare each games F2P modes: SWTOR and LOTRO
I use to play LOTRO back when it was P2P and when it was F2P (as a preferred player). The F2P stuff was restrictive enough to get me to sub for a few months (which is obviously the whole point of the restrictions). I think if you were to compare the F2P of LOTRO and SWTOR, SWTOR would come out on top based solely on the quality of the story content. However, I still consider LOTRO to be the MMO with the best transition from P2P to F2P. Apparently it made them a buttload more money than P2P.
To be fair, given that a bitcoin is worth, like, 16k... Depending on how much traffic the swtor website sees, assuming this isn't someone taking advantage of a hole in security, you could probably rake in quite a bit of cash before you're caught.
Given that swtor.com (at least, according to SimilarWeb had about seven million hits for November and October, and 4-5 million for the four months before that... Depending on how long this thing's been in operation you could get a lot of blocks mined even if you only manage to hit half the users.
Well, as a software engineer: the engine is putting too much work on only one core of the CPU and not utilizing multi-core and GPU to the fullest.
So you are right that it it the engines fault, but the other post is NOT wrong. He is right in the regard that the game is stressing your CPU too much. You have to accept that it is easy for unoptimized software to stress any hardware into obedience.
On fleet, characters do not execute skills that affect other characters. In OPS/WZs/group content they do.
Now the CPU is calculating WHAT to render before your GPU does the HOW. With characters moving, firing skills, and this information coming from the server, the CPU has to process this BEFORE it passes the information to your GPU.
This is
Now the problem is that when developing SWTOR in 2011/2012 the Hero Engine (http://www.heroengine.com/) was "forked" - meaning diverted from the original source code that ideafabrik kept working on. Meaning that Bioware could no longer update the engine with newer, more efficient versions that were released over the years. In the meantime it seems most if not all developers that were working on the engine itself at Bioware Austin left or moved on. I am pessimistic they will start a project of optimizing the engine as it would require a lot of time from experienced developers to do it - and that would be very costly. There is no magic switch/silver bullet.
IIRC, HeroEngine wasn't even finished when development of SWTOR began. EA more or less took an unfinished version of it and said, "we'll do it ourselves" so now it's more or less a Frankenstein engine of unfinished Hero and EA in-house. The last code drop EA got from HeroEngine was in 2009. It has been all in-house since then.
If you want to go the ranged pistoleer route, you could try Smuggler/Gunslinger or Bounty Hunter/Mercenary (of the two the Hunter is arguably easier, since it can wear heavier armour, has some limited self-healing, and doesn't rely on the "cover" mechanic as much as the Smuggler).
If you want ranged-with-a-lightsaber, there's the Jedi Consular/Sage and Sith Inquisitor/Sorcerer, both of which play something like a KOTOR Consular - you carry a lightsaber, but in combat you rely on your Force powers.
If you want to get into full-on saber-swinging, I'd recommend a Jedi Knight/Guardian or Sith Warrior/Juggernaut - they're both all about laying down the beating with the glowstick, and they're new-player-friendly, with lots of survivability (their dual-wielding cousins - Sentinels and Marauders - require a lot more babysitting).
If you want to check out the game, check out the weekly referral post for a referral link - gets you a week of subscriber-level access and some goodies. If you then decide you want to drop some cash, the current Amazon bundle is a pretty good deal - 90 days of subscription, plus some bonus cartel coins for 40 bucks.
1) There's better options; that bundle basically charges you $5 for a mount/cosmetic gear and some XP boosts you'll get 3 of within an hour or two of doing story.
2) It activates when you buy it. The other (better) options off Amazon and Origin give you a code you enter - sub starts when you redeem it.
3) Best deal is $40 for 3 months playtime off Amazon as it gives you extra free cartel coins that you can use to buy things you really want.
4) If you are trying SWtOR I'd suggest playing it free for a bit - see if you like it before spending money on a sub.
Takedown and Followthrough are still DPS gains over a lower-than-standard-GCD Snipe because of their high damage, and excellent dmg/energy ratios.
There is a great spreadsheet from the Sniper thread over at sithwarrior that can illustrate this via some in depth number crunching. Stacking alacrity to get faster cast Snipes doesn't help snipers in the long run, because our main limiting constraint is energy, not time. You won't be able to spam Snipe for an entire bossfight, and so in your rotational priority Takedown and Followthrough should both beat Snipe, as their DPS:energy conversion is still much higher.
Fun Sniper fact: if your rotation has the spare energy to support it, casting Orbital Strike every time it comes off CD (more so if you have the talent that reduces cast time) is a DPS gain even on single targets. Who knew?
So these are from the test server. They are not that surprising based on the other classes we've seen so far. You will have to choose one of the three presented at any given time. You can see more on the PTS yourself here is more info: https://www.swtor.com/community/forumdisplay.php?f=308

DPS: Shae Vizla is the highest DPS companion in the game right now, parsing over 10k on a dummy, due to a major bonus to her AOE skill.
Companions with 2 light sabers parse 8900+ such as Master Ranos, Ashara or Veeroa (Veeroa gets a very minor bonus from darkside not having a delay on kill shot). D-R3D does not channel his AOE attack (bug) so his dps is slightly less.
Any companion with 2 blaster Pistols will be excellent for DPS, parsing 8600+.
Q0-77, Nico, Vette, Hamdil Tre, Theron Shan, Andronikos Revel and Ensign Temple (before her respawn) all use 2 blaster pistols and are top Ranged DPS after Shae.
from the post:
Greetings from up North!
My name’s Jay, and I’ve been with BioWare since the days of Neverwinter Nights. The last 12+ years have been spent on the writing side of game development, getting my start on the tail end of Mass Effect 2. About a year and half ago, I jumped at the chance to work with the talented SWTOR team down in Austin and haven’t looked back.
For a kid that grew up playing with Star Wars action figures, it’s been a tremendous privilege of adding a few of my own stories to the vast Star Wars universe. Two of my favorite new characters - Jekiah and Rass Ordo - were introduced in the flashpoint, Spirit of Vengeance.
But trouble never left an Ordo alone for very long. Left to oversee the Mandalorians after Shae Vizla begins her hunt for the treacherous Field Marshal Heta Kol, Jekiah faces his first crisis when a conflict between two clans turns bloody in the short story “Seeing Red.”
Hope you enjoy it.
K'oyacyi!

The droid was only for players affected by a bug in the Nathema Conspiracy that made the game forget their marriage proposal. It only affected that bug in Nathema, which has been repaired. It didn't allow anyone to reinstate a romance that was bugged somewhere else. There are still numerous other bugs with the game locking players out of the romance with Lana that have not been fixed.
This is the original post on the droid.

I've seen no indication of any plans to change the prices, so they should be the same as the originally announced prices. Everyone is 5 tokens, except for Master Ranos who is 6 tokens.
Seems like this is a p common question so you’re def not alone in the struggle. Does this thread help?

I think you're confused, this isn't really about just a new tier for the upcoming expansion.
>The Spoils of War
>Our philosophy for this expansion is, play your way. Items have always been an important part of your character’s identity, but for the first time we are offering true depth and choice with exciting new items that let you decide how to play in the upcoming battle.
>One of the ways that we’re adding this depth is with an entirely new type of gear slot – Tactical items. These build-defining items directly alter your abilities and playstyle. Taking these new items, players will be able to pair them with numerous new set bonuses to choose from, including general sets that can be used by everyone.
>These item sets can be acquired through multiple paths. Acquire your gear no matter how you choose to play: Player vs Environment, Player vs Player, Galactic Command, and Crafting are all viable. New set items, Tactical items, and more open a pathway to limitless depth allowing you to play your character exactly how you want!

https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B6CdapLJKsXXUUZ5SFlSTjhDRGs/edit?usp=sharing
(edit) For fast leveling I'd personally go with Balance. It's got the best raw aoe. Kinetic is viable, but slower. It's nice for soloing heroic 2s and PvP at lower levels, but that's about it. You can use tank gear and actually level tanking fps. Infiltration, is super fun but a challenge and you'll waste a lot of time regenning hp after mob packs. It's how I first leveled my assassin.
Very cool project.
From the pastebin data, are you tracking "all" items or just the interesting ones?
Are you using a uh.. screenreader? Like a bot logs into the game, "looks" through the GTN and writes it down?
Do you have any idea how much it would cost to support it? Example I managed to find a good basic host for $5 a month, but I don't have crazy data like you do. I want to say people with tons of data use flexible hosting like this. If you can get someone to help with "putting the data on the internet" I could donate a bit of CSS time once you've got it running.
I highly recommend shopping around on deviant art and getting someone to draw a picture / make a digital painting of her main character! Simple drawings/paintings can run from $20-$40, fancier ones can run $60-$100. Bonus points if you get it printed and nicely framed.
Tell her to send you a screenshot of her character but don't tell her why (or log into her account and take on yourself if you have her password). Then send that screenshot to artist and let them know the deadline and ask if they are interested. They'll usually send you a digital file.
Here's a link of recent commissions on tumblr https://www.tumblr.com/search/swtor+commission/recent not sure a good way to search on deviantart directly.
>TL;DR: It's a high-damage lower-armor tank that relies on shield rating and absorption, but completely viable end-game.
Not exactly.
You don't actually want Shield rating per say but Shields is one of our major contributor in mitigation. Just like all other tanks, we actually want gear that says Defense first followed by Absorption. At some point, Absorption does outscale Defense but we don't want Shield until really high Defense/Absorb value. This is due to our naturally high Shield already (due to Dark Ward).
To see the best possible itemization at various gear level, see: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AqGh8DCSdR5FdEVWRzdwSk1DVWQwN3pTMWV0NXlRamc&hl=en_US&pli=1#gid=15
I agree that we are a high damage tank and that we do have the lowest DR compared to all the other tanks (even at a 275.8% Armor multiplier). What we lack in DR, we gain in self-healing. We have decent proc-heals (I think it heals for 500, not 100% sure) with a 4.5s ICD and additionally heal 12% HP roughly every 18s due to Harnessed Darkness. Our AOE threat isn't the best but it's not the worst either.
Overall, Sins make a good tank for end game due to our single target threat, debuffs, and cooldowns. When dual-spec comes out (whenever it is), that increases our value even further due to our good DPS off-spec.
Make sure to do the intro to PvP mission along with PvP daily. That will get you 4-8 levels with 1-2 warzones.
Heroic missions are incredibly fast as well - doing the starter planet and capital planet ones are very easy and super fast XP.
With my DvL characters I was hitting 25 in about 2 hours of play. If you are a sub and want to extend your time, there is a bundle from Origin that gives you 60 days sub time (I believe) along with 5 Major XP boosts for every character you create. That made my DvL farming much easier.
Edit - the bundle, $29.99 for 60 days sub and the XP packs - https://www.origin.com/en-us/store/buy/star-wars-the-old-republic/pc-download/bundle/deluxe-pack
At first I was going to blame the transcription service, but if you listen to the audiocast in CEO's eyes we are all enjoying the Shadows of Raven...maybe that's why the actual Shadow of Revan is so buggy.
So, when you skip past KotFE/KotET to Ossus, these are the choices that are automatically made. The only thing doing this won't bypass are the Star Fortresses, but they really aren't necessary to finish.
Personally, contrary to what some players say, I never had a problem playing through KotFE/KotET with my Smuggler (He was the first character I played through the KotXX Expansions), of course I played it as he knew everything was ridiculous, but just went along with it to flirt with Lana at the worst times.
TBH, I briefly tried going on the PTS yesterday, and half the things weren't working.
In the past though, they said you get to re-pick your primary style for current characters... so unless that's changed you'll be able to make your BH an operative, though as pref you won't get to have a second class.
From a past Dev post;
> If you have an existing character when Legacy of the Sith launches, when you log into the game, you will be able to choose a Combat Style immediately. You can choose a Combat Style similar to your previous Advanced Class or choose something new. The choice is yours!

Essentially, get it done on their schedule or lose your progress.
Just because you didn’t know about a character that was introduced in 2013, doesn’t mean the character wasn’t introduced in 2013. You want some statistics: here is a thread full of people that met the lady.

No, all three specs are on the PTS. HERE IS THE POST SO YOU CAN DRAW YOUR OWN CONCLUSIONS, PLEASE READ FULLY FIRST: https://www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?p=9954874#edit9954874 - If you scroll to the bottom of the spoiler you can see Vigi and Def, we just don't get to see the whole tree, and they are not copy-paste - example whatever "Antagonizing Assault" is, it's only for Defense. You can also test Vigi and Def on the PTS.
Unfortunately, yeah, you'll have to wait. The last Rakghoul event ran in mid-December, so it'll be a few weeks (probably?) before it runs again. You can check upcoming events here:
https://www.swtor.com/info/in-game-events
And there's some historic data here:
Have a look at this Ultimate Guide of Guides for SWTOR 2020 by swtorista, literally every single aspect of the game is covered, across several pages, including endgame content like gearing, flashpoints and operations.
If it's too overwhelming, try swtorista site, her guides are the best.
This Rakghoul event is on Corellia: https://www.swtor.com/info/in-game-events. The title incorrectly says Tatooine, but the body text correctly says Corellia. Wanted to flag in case there was any confusion.
Good time to mention you don't need to use the official SWTOR app, you can also use Google Authenticator which is nice if you like to have all your 2FA eggs in one basket.
Hey everyone,
I just recently started getting into achievements (took me long enough, lol), and I ran across the Imperial Beastmaster of Balmorra, which requires me to kill a mutated colicoid. According to everything I've found online (including something as recent as September '21 on the official SWTOR forum), I need to navigate to the position I'm at in the first two pictures. I also managed to locate and kill a mutated colicoid drone with my companion (the location of the colicoid is highlighted in red in the last picture), but I didn't get credit for it. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!
Cheers!
>This isn’t quite right. You can’t do a faction locked tech class, meaning on the imperial side, you can be an agent with merc combat styles, not commando.
Actually your "this isn't quite right" isn't quite right. Tech Power characters will be able to select from all 8 Tech Power combat styles. So yes, an Imperial Agent could select combat styles currently associated with Republic (Tech Power) characters (Commando, Vanguard, Scoundrel, Gunslinger) in addition to the combat styles currently associated with Imperial (Tech Power) combat styles (Operative, Sniper, Powertech, Mercenary)
Please read https://www.swtor.com/info/news/article/20210806 to confirm.
Surely it's safe with that feedback score and the 60 day keys are worldwide. However, this store is cheaper (17.15€ vs 18.35€) than your Ebay link: https://www.instant-gaming.com/en/44-buy-key-origin-star-wars-the-old-republic-60-days/?igr=505032
They got 9.7 on Trustpilot, and you get the keys right away. I've bought 5 gametime cards in there so far.
Steam is good for non regular purchases, like buying Cartel Coins, but can be crap at regular purchases (Like subscriptions)
Too many people have had a disconnect between EA and Valve when it comes to buying a subscription when the subscription doesn't go through properly and the money is still taken from the person's account.
I think one player previously, on this Reddit sub, tried to take it up with both Steam and EA (Using customer service) and got their account banned for non existent fraud.
It's easier and saver to go to the SWTOR website (https://www.swtor.com/) and buy your subscription directly through your account page.
It depends.
Knights of the Old Republic and Knights of the Old Republic 2 are the games which lead into SWTOR, set 300 years before. Obviously that's about 60+ hours of your time so you may not want to do that.
The Old Republic: Revan is a bridging novel that is set between the Kotor games and SWTOR.
The Old Republic: Deceived book is set just before the SWTOR and has very wide acclaim.
The game itself is set 3600ish years before the films. Broadly speaking you have some common themes: Republic Vs Empire, Jedi Vs Sith.
https://www.swtor.com/info/setting - this link will give you the immediate description of the setting preceding the game's start.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ojeoI1nSWeQ
This is some early clips giving you some very dry but educational breakdown of galactic events leading up to the game's start. Originally published on the game's website.
My recommendation would be:
Read the website link
Watch the YouTube video
That should be enough, but it you want more, read Revan and Deceived
There are also three other books set during the game's time period:
Fatal Alliance Red Harvest Annihilation
I've not read them, mixed reviews.
Personally I have felt that as someone who's been a die hard star wars fan of 15 years when I first tried playing SWTOR, I was very confused about the setting until I started actually playing, and I thought the game did a decent job explaining it
Here's the one for KOTET: https://www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?t=956483
You can skip them both without using a character boost by getting to level 70, then using your ships holoterm or something.
Back when Shadow of Revan came out they did an experience boost for Class story missions. You could basically reach max level and only have to do a few side quests.
Doing dailies and weeklies on Onderon and Mek-sha, on top of queueing for flashpoints, on multiple chars if you have them.
The most important thing is passing your highest item level pieces to your alts before opening crates (all max lvl gear is bound to legacy), also from conquest and renown.
That's because what you get from crates depends on what you're wearing, so always equip the highest item level pieces you find regardless of what stats they have.
As for spirit of vengeance, BW wrote on the forums:
> We'll explore adding an optional Combat Support Droid in SoV. I do not have a set target date for when this will be implemented, but wanted to say that this is something we are looking into.

Update 6.3.1 will put Jaleit Nall's inventory on a weekly rotation that changes with the Tuesday reset. No official date has been announced for 6.3.1 but considering that Nightlife and double XP are scheduled to start on 29 June I would guess 22 June, one week prior. It has not been stated that 6.31 will have a fix for the companions and see them returned to Jaleit's inventory, but once they are fixed it will be easy to calculate when a particular comp will be available for purchase as they will follow a schedule.

> Name a game currently using Hero Engine of any kind besides swtor.
Repopulation is using the unmodded version of Hero Engine currently.
Here are a couple small time games using it: http://www.heroengine.com/spotlight/
Of course, SWTOR isn't using the Hero Engine: it is using a custom built engine based off of the Hero Engine. Nobody uses SWTOR's engine except SWTOR.
I'm hoping for a completely new engine released as a new xpac. They could use a version of the Frostbite engine. It doesn't have to be highly graphics intensive, although games like Tera and Planetside prove MMOs can be pretty.
This is the only game I know of that was released using HeroEngine and we can see how well that works. HeroEngine's games spotlight is like a graveyard for games that never were.
Absolutely.
This part of the HeroEngine website made me cringe. It's so full of horrible grammar and cheeky pictures I want to punch a baby.
I recently went back to FFXIV and the amount of content there is truly staggering, especially when you remember that ff14 and SWTOR were more or less contemporary games (launched around the same time)
If anyone would like a referral code for final fantasy 14, just PM me with an email to send it to and you get some swag and some free play time to try it out
edit: FWIW full game with x-pack is also on sale on amazon for $26
In the USA, you can get Time card from most retailers like Walmart, Gamestop, etc. Here is a link to Amazon for the time card. I would suggest doing a Google search for your country if outside of USA to be sure.
I mean, they're right - it was your choice to use the name and it is your right to change it. You definitely won't get a free name change if you are aggressive with them, but you can potentially ask for escalation - admit that you know it's your fault and there are in game options, but that will take some time and you're hoping they can cut you some slack. Try calling them (assuming you're a subscriber).
But ultimately, yeah, you're most likely going to need to purchase a rename. They do go on sale, and make sure you have a security key attached to your account so you get more coins.
If you're going to stay subscribed anyway, you can buy the 90 Day Bundle from Amazon which is the same cost as subbing through the game, but comes with 2400 extra coins which you can use to buy the rename.
I have a solution for you:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb897578.aspx
This swaps the caps lock key with control. I got this idea from emacs users who have more hotkeys than is sane.
And I found something else...
Origin Deluxe Pack https://www.origin.com/en-us/store/buy/54035/pc-download/bundle/deluxe-pack
That's not actually true.
You can't change story (stuck with what you made at creation)... but according to their blog you WILL be able to swap classes on first log-in.
This is NOT on the PTS (ergo people saying you won't be able to), but IMHO they just didn't add it to the PTS vs them changing their minds.

From the post;
> If you have an existing character when Legacy of the Sith launches, when you log into the game, you will be able to choose a Combat Style immediately. You can choose a Combat Style similar to your previous Advanced Class or choose something new. The choice is yours!
Get the Razer Game Booster. This this is amazing! I use this for my laptop and it gives me such a great boost in FPS, that I can turn up the graphics settings and still hold a solid 40 FPS.
Also I cannot believe it's been 6 years already. The graphic changes have been so subtle that I never really noticed it. I remember the first day on and seeing the buildings and the traffic on Coruscant, I thought that as awe inspiring. I still this this is the best MMO out ther because of the great story telling. I'm looking forward to another 6 years!
I have no idea how much the game cost, but I know that at one point Bioware said they only needed 500,000 subs to be substantially profitable, and anything at all north of 1,000,000 was incredibly profitable.
http://www.gamespot.com/news/star-wars-the-old-republic-needs-only--6297338
I don't think they should have too many problems, considering they already have 900,000 retail pre-orders in the U.S alone, who knows how many digital and non-U.S preorders there are.
"i think ive played every mmo". You almost sound serious about this: http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm. I very much doubt that list is even complete, but it's probably the best chance if anywhere has a complete list of "every" mmo.
They don't seem to be nerfing across the board, from what I've read. They claim to be leveling a few of the bigger conquest achievements but keeping most everything else like Dailies and Heroics the same.
I believe some confusion online was due to how Conquest points shown online from the PTS server didn't reflect what a lot of players see live because the PTS doesn't include Stronghold bonus.
Devs posted this earlier:
>There is some conversation regarding us decreasing the values of Conquest Objectives across the board. While there are some Conquest Objectives which will see some small balance tweaks, they are confined to very specific Objective types (mostly relating to World Bosses and Star Fortresses) and are by no means wide-spread. The Conquest Points for Heroics, Daily Areas, Defeat Enemies 1 and 2, Operations, and nearly 90% of every other Conquest Objective is remaining exactly as you see it on the live server today.
Hi everyone, these automated emails are connected to the October 6th incident post that was made earlier today. Please see here for further details. https://www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?t=997749
Back when Renown was first introduced they said this:
> Onslaught will also introduce seasons to Renown. Starting with 6.0, Command ranks will be retired and players will enter the expansion at Renown rank 1. The rank cap is being increased to 999, with future updates likely bumping the cap up even further. With rewards now equally available at any Renown rank, your rank now has no effect on the quality of loot you receive and is solely a way to show off to your Guildmates and at your local cantina. Our intention is that the entirety of the Onslaught expansion cycle will comprise of one “season”, with a new season starting at some time in the distant future.
(The full news article can be found here: https://www.swtor.com/info/news/article/20190603-0 )
That was more than 2 years ago, so who knows if they still intend to stick to that plan. If they do then Renown will still stay around and the level 999 cap will simply be increased.
>Hi folks,
>
>Thanks for reporting the bug with the Perfection Achievements on Onderon and Tatooine.
>
>This bug is a known issue:
>
>THE ALL WORLDS ULTIMATE SWOOP RALLY
>
>It is not possible to complete the Blatant Beks, Horizon's Razors, and Pit Screamers Perfection Achievement on Tatooine and Onderon.
>
>Our team is currently looking into it. I'll update the known issues list when I have more info.
Have you read their post?
... because that's literally what the devs said, and where I'm getting this from.
> The way combat styles will work is that every few levels, players will have one of the following occur:
>* Receive a new ability >* Choose from 1 of 3 abilities >* Choose from 1 of 3 passives >* Choose from 1 of 3 passives or abilities
> The A and B markers indicate the two ability path options that are chosen for this phase of PTS.
They even went over the levels (subject to change) and ways this will work for focus guardians... with A/B indications showing the PTS preset loadouts
> ~Level 10 - Gain Ability
>* Focused Burst - Single target burst damage ability.
>~Level 15 - Choose one ability or passive
>* [B] Blade Burst - Blade Storm becomes AoE and slows. >* Saber Throw - Gain the Saber Throw Ability. >* [A] Energy Barrage - Adds Energy Damage to Blade Barrage and it now immobilizes the target.
...so in this part (didn't want to copy the whole thing) at lvl 10 you gain Focused Burst; at 15 you pick either Blade Burst, Saber Throw, or *Energy Barrage... but on the PTS loadouts you only get blade burst or energy barrage as an option, depending on which loadout (a or b) you tell the droid to give you after it boosts you to 75.
They were suppose to add a command crate vendor which is where the Revanite sabers came from in 6.0, but we're still waiting for them to add it.
See this thread.
They listed it as a known issue here recently. Same thing happened to me, was so excited to actually get it then boom, disappointment.
