$100 says it'll have WoW style quest hub progression, a loli race, tits and ass, an incredibly boring crafting system, an upgrade system with RNG and a failure rate that only increases in tier, trade skills that were simply added to make it look like the game has content, tons of costumes, a terrible cash shop, gender locks, incredibly boring and linear classes. Someone needs to make a bingo sheet
Edit: Oh look a loli class https://vgy.me/ajASKS.png
Stop misinforming people.
Outfits didn't get more expensive, it has to do with the Event Cart system.
"Right now, you will see on the Outfits tab a different purchase price which has been placed due to technical limitations.
This is necessary to make sure the final price of the Event Card bundle items are correctly calculated and the proper discounts are applied.
For example, if you had selected a Premium Set of 3,400 Pearls as starting price, it would be marked down to 2,516 Pearls which is an incorrect calculation.
Please keep in mind that the prices on the outfits will only be shown during the event period of 4/18 After Maintenance to 5/2 Before Maintenance.
After the Event Cart promotion is over, the prices of the outfits will be displayed in the way before this promotion."
This.
The job of these sites isn't to tell you what is objectively good, or objectively bad, it's to write favourable PR for money for a company.
Ever heard of Fandom? Used to be called Wikia, but now the holding company is called Wikia, Inc, while the main business is called FANDOM powered by Wikia.
The company has gone from a content hosting platform to a PR platform. Check out the link above; how many stories do you see with negative impressions of a product? Exactly. No honest reviews of products, people, services or companies, just well-spun PR extolling the virtues of whatever is the flavour of the month.
There isn't exactly one character named Asmongold, and since your screenshot is from a < level 5 character it doesn't show up on the profiler so we can't see what server you're on. https://worldofwarcraft.com/en-us/search/character?q=asmongold
However, given there is a channel send from someone on the Gnomeregan server we can figure out that you are on Moonrunner though because it's connected. The Asmongold on Moonrunner is not the Asmongold youtuber. He is on Kel'thuzad
I knew this ahead of time since some site notified me. Sadly im one of them and i probably played like 2 hours in that game. If you guys EVER registered to this game your info has probably been leaked. The info that i know of that was leaked were Email addresses, Names, Passwords, Physical addresses, and Usernames.
If your curious on what emails of yours been leaked in other database leaks not just this one check out https://haveibeenpwned.com (idk if linking is against the rules or not I'll change if need be)
Remember to always have a different password for everything and keep it all up to date.
You gotta really love the gameplay to be able to deal with a game launching in 2015 looking like this
I have been holding on to the game for 3 years now(founder, played off and on), and the game has had a rough past. Most veterans, myself included, will tell you that the golden time of firefall has passed(and red5 studios has decided that they wont be going back to that version of the game). The game has a lot of flaws, but Red5 is taking a new direction with the game. Check out some of the more recent Firefall news, especially this article: http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/loadNews/36534/Its-Groove-Found-Its-Future-Bright
I have stuck with Firefall for so long because I love the combat, art style and pvp. Red5 is adding a lot of new content and tuning in-game systems for a major game-revamp coming early next year. It wouldn't hurt to get into it. Most of the community considers the game "dormant" until this big patch comes.
Don't play on EU. Not only is the Europe version Pay2win, but its horribly run and has so many issues. Play on NA servers; while it may be slightly more laggy, its totally worth it to play on NA.
Project: Gorgon has randomized loot.
Every kill has a chance to drop Rank 0 items all the way up to legendary quality items with randomized stat bonuses that almost always pertain to your current skillset (whatever two 'classes' you have on your hotbar). Item quality isn't limited to just players that have leveled up their skills and invested more time. You can get these legendary drops from day 1.
However, the game has maximum life skilling. There are like 60 different life skills that organically level up by while playing the game. Thankfully 99% of quests outside of the starting island are entirely optional.
The graphics are going to be revamped later and the game contains no PVP.
There are no such things as bound items and all items can even be dropped on the group for other players to loot.
Hope this helps.
May I present to you Planeshift. The very first (and I do mean very first) free to play MMORPG.
And also Eternal Lands, another extremely early free to play MMO developed by only a handful of people.
I've personally played both (and even helped out with Planeshift's development since anyone can volunteer;) and while their communities may be small, they're all extremely loyal and friendly. Both of these games have been up since before World of Warcraft, and I don't think they're going anywhere any time soon.
If you go to https://www.blackdesertonline.com there will be 7-day trial, you can upgrade the trial to full game and save the progress.
I wouldn't try to convince anyone to playing BDO in any other way by simply recommending trying it out. Combat system in BDO is something that cannot be described in words and more reminds me of a arcade fighting game than MMO.
My god... You're right. In-fact https://www.elitedangerous.com/ and http://playboundless.com/ use the same design too... I wonder how many people have copied Albion's completely original, not borrowed at all, brand new design.... Actually, after looking, so many game sites look like this... One could almost imagine a world where Albion wasn't the originator of the design at all, but in-fact part of an overall design trend that doesn't have any specific point of origin. I mean, but what are you going to tell me next? I live in a country where there are virtually no consumer protections on the multi-billion dollar industry of gaming? That's ridiculous.
I shall point thee here - http://www.mmorpg.com/the-secret-world/news/relaunching-with-a-new-name-secret-world-legends-1000043733
More details. All existing lifers get everything in the new game too. Carries over.
They most certainly are.
I don't see how anyone can make the case as it being legal. Like, I've pirated TV shows and I don't pretend it's not stealing. No need to take a moral high ground here. I'm not really judging anyone for playing it.
Absolutely amazing server!
PvP exists, the events are awesome and the custom/re-implemented content really brings life to Pre-Cu SWG without taking away the awesome profession system.
I recommend this server to both veterans of SWG and players who are looking for something new! If the idea of a huge multi-world sandbox with a player run economy and city building has EVER interested you, this is the game you have been looking for. And its all free! All you need to do is torrent a copy of the CD's from your favorite source. I believe SWG is considered abandonware and sharing the game client should not be in any way illegal at this point, so come join us!
If anyone is looking for a Buff, you can find me on my Master Doctor inside the New Cnet Cantina.
Send a /tell to Vosski and say you came from reddit. I'll give you a discount and answer any question you may have about the game.
Edit: Hosting the CD's on Mediafire for folks who don't want to torrent!
Depending how young they are, toontown (rewritten) would be a good choice
https://www.toontownrewritten.com/
even for adults who just want a casual/friendly/family atmosphere its pretty decent. Since OP didnt state kids age, I don't think Trove or GW2 be good choices IF they are really young.
Trove I've seen people post a lot of adult language and its kinda more a "mature" game from what I've seen in chat...though still friendlier than most, just better for teens than if OP has young kids.
Not according to official statements from Neowiz. They were working on making improvements to the game and wanted to give those improvements the time they needed to get it right, but Aeria Games wanted to release the game sooner. So they parted ways so they could do exactly what they're doing now, and thank god for that because Aeria sucks anyway.
http://www.mmorpg.com/bless/news/neowiz-committed-to-bringing-the-game-to-the-west-1000044563
>how the fuck is this so rare in MMOs?
Thematic consistency.
You typically have to go to an eastern themed MMO to find eastern themed character classes. The Silk Road for example is basically all monks, samurai, and spiritualists without a knight, mage, or priest to be found anywhere.
There are absolute shit tons of eastern MMOs that have them and you can't throw a stone without hitting a Korean, Chinese, or Japense fantasy-styled MMO that has a samurai or samurai-like swordsman.
Hell, even Maplestory has Hayato.
From the get go, we have always been fully aware that in an open world PvP focussed sandbox MMORPG, there is a risk that certain factions become dominant.
Hence, Albion Online was designed in such a way as to minimize the risk of that happening. It's a core part of the game's DNA. Here is a short summary:
Flat gear power curve
High end gear is extremely rare, and can and will be lost in PvP, hence even the most powerful guilds won't be able to field it on a consistent basis.
Flat character power curve
Making sure that guild conquerable assets do not provide a purely passive income, but have to be actively used and protected
Guild vs Guild terrory combat being limited to 5 players per side, hence allowing smaller guilds to compete with larger guilds.
Making lower end resources an essential part of the game's economy, even when crafting high end items, hence making sure that there is a constant flow of money from the high end to the low end of the player base.
Synchronising PvP targets such as treasure chests, world bosses, etc, making sure that zerging them done is generally not worth it, hence encouraging large groups to split up into smaller groups.
These are some examples of what we have in place to prevent the issue you describe above.
Now, don't get me wrong: of course, well organized guilds will always have an advantage over more casual players - it would be weird if that was not the case. However, it is extremely unlikely - and has never happened in any of your tests, two of which lasted around 6 months - that a single faction will dominate the world.
> GW2 has over the last year and a half constantly cut down on gameplay releases
? there was an insane patch in April that was "a second take on the addon" which made it incredibly fun. Now in July they released the 'Out of the shadows' patch that added an entirely new map (Bloodstone Fen) with a bunch of other super nice additions/overhauls to the game and on September 20th the next release is coming out (Ring of Fire!) with another new map and content. So?
GW2 is a B2P game (base game is even F2P), they need to make money too, you know? And most people will confirm that GW2 has one of the fairest and best cash shops in any MMORPG out there.
ESO is quite alive, there are people everywhere and has 1 mega server for EU and NA.
You can pick up the game except SummerSet quite cheap:
https://www.greenmangaming.com/games/the-elder-scrolls-online-morrowind/
Once you are Level 10 you can PVP all the way to the end game/BIS gear and never have to PVE once.
Also the PVP is quite nice and depends a lot on composition, builds, resistances and so on.
avoid these greedy scumbags. research pathfinder online a little and you will see all the recent BS that surrounds that company/people in decision making roles. Plus they really charged a ridiculous amount of money to alpha test AND required a fucking sub fee...for an EARLY ALPHA!!! This guy even BLAMED his backers for not recruiting enough players. Look at YOUR GAME and your MARKETING DEPARTMENT buddy, not your backers. What a greedy tool! If you are in to having to pay pay pay for a terrible game experience then this game is for you!...we gotta pay to test... pay for a guild.... pay for a house.... pay for shop.... pay a sub while testing..What a blatant slimy cash grab-kindly FUCK OFF!
They actually did an interview a few years back and said the game was going to get shut down, but a spike in revenue help pulled it back from the brink.
What saved it? Loli characters with school uniforms and swimsuit costumes for it. Yes, what saved a high fantasy world with leading edge combat was elins and their costume sales.
I'd love to see the sale numbers for those full body animal costumes. Saw them everywhere when they came out.
The Razer Naga X is my current MMO mouse of choice. It has a 12-button thumb grid like basically every renowned MMO mouse, but has additional advantages of being lightweight (85g) and having a great sensor that is suitable for competitive shooters. It's also relatively affordable (seems to be on sale at the moment as well?) which is great.
Everyone on this sub seems to love the G600, but it's really an incredibly outdated mouse nowadays. It's incredibly heavy (like 133g), and has a really crappy laser sensor that is completely unsuitable for any FPS games (or any genre that requires precise/fast mouse movements).
It is among the cheapest of MMO mice available from reputable manufacturers due to its age, but I M O it's pretty not worth the buy nowadays unless the only games you play are MMOs.
Where exactly are you hearing bad reviews? It was one of the best reviewed games last year
A lot of the negativity you're hearing is from people that really overhyped the game. Guild Wars 2 was an evolution of MMORPG's; not a revolution. It brought some freshness to the type of MMO's like WoW. But if you didn't like WoW in the least, then you probably wouldn't like Guild Wars 2.
RMT is present in the vast majority of MMOs, whether you like it or not. Currently it takes the form of a black market, which involves a lot of shady activities, such as botting, account cracking, credit card fraud, various scams, and even DDoS attacks. Banning the parties involved from the game, or implementing various game mechanics to combat RMT isn't going to change anything, because as long as there is money to be made, there will be a market for it, and as long as there is a competitive advantage to it, there will be buyers. So instead of penalizing it, RMT should be legalized and regulated, that way honest players can still get what they want, while the incentive for some of the shadier activities involved can be decreased by a lot.
One interesting approach that I've read about recently is to use blockchain as a means of transferring ingame goods. I believe this method has great potential. http://www.mmorpg.com/general-articles/our-first-look-at-chimaeras-blockchain-based-gaming-platform-sponsored-1000012164
http://www.mmorpg.com/crowfall/columns/want-to-invest-in-a-throne-war-you-can-now-1000011325
One can fund ArtCraft by investing over IndieGoGo/Microventures ... and it's a real investment (Titel III) not a gift like KS money, see http://www.mmorpg.com/crowfall/columns/title-iii-investments-what-are-they-1000011382
Finally, after teasing us to death over last month...=)
Edit: there is already (!) MMORPG.com article on this, <strong>Necromancy as a Market Skill</strong> and here is <strong>Crowns and Crows with Thomas Blair</strong> (Crowfall Design Lead), with couple interesting questions (and answers) inside.
GW2 will be a good buy, comes out on the 25 if you prepurchase (28th if you don't) /r/guildwars2 is also a great community, they'll get you up to speed on the game before it comes out.
If you need something before that you could try:
WOW's free to play (good if you haven't rolled a certain race before)
I wish I could suggest more but there's just not much out there that's F2P and good at the same time.
You must be misinformed. It is AWFUL inefficient to buy those enchant things from the cash shop. You buy them for gold in the marketplace. Dragon nest is a time consuming game. With some updates, it is either easy to get endgame or hard. The p2w is awful. It's 40-70 dollars for illegal 10k gold which means nothing if you do not know much about dragon nest. Selling direct nexon cash is 150 gold per 1 dollar. You can see how highly inefficient it is. The enhancing things (called jellies) cost 3,400 nexon for 50. 50 of them is equivalent to 300 gold. Even the devs seem like they are taking huge steps to fix their game as dragon nest is dying http://dragonnest.nexon.net/community/forum#%2Fshowthread.php%3F1428544-2015-05-23-KDN-Conference%26p%3D11807128%23post11807128 I am well off, and I have never spent nx cash on anything besides a permanent costume. I'm sorry, but that is very ignorant of you.
> Event Cart function has been added to Pearl Shop.
>Now you can choose your own individual parts of outfits in a bundle and enjoy the special discounts.
>The Special Event Cart helps you put together single parts of different outfits to create your own individual look at a discounted price.
>The new prices you see displayed (4600 pearls for example) are the total amount of pearls you would spend if you purchased every single item of a Premium Outfit Set individually. With the Event Cart you can now combine the look of two or more Premium Outfits and get them for the same price as the Premium Outfit Set.
> Please keep in mind that the prices on the outfits will only be shown during the event period of 4/18 After Maintenance to 5/2 Before Maintenance.

Umm.. no it doesn't. It used to, but it does not call itself a Sandbox anymore.

Many thanks to u/Writemare for the heads up.
The are not, they even stated that they eased the lvling process.
https://www.aiononline.com/news/aion-classic-announcement
From the announcement "However, there are many players who experienced difficulties in the original Aion due to the high EXP required to advance. These issues have been corrected in Classic and adjustments have been made so that the
highest level can be reached in a shorter amount of time.
/r/EpicSeven has a huge community on reddit
but for more of the usual mmorpg, /r/talesofwind
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.emagroups.ic2&hl=en_US just came out and it's REALLY solid, probably better most PC mmorpg choices.
The game has a daily maintenance period that is not advertised, and because of geography alone (time zone) it falls during their play time.
There is nothing bogus or made up about that 'reason'. And if you don't understand why good customer service can make someone likely to be a repeat customer, you're being disingenuous.
It's also pretty much an industry standard through most distributors to have refund periods. Steam for example (hey check out the title of this submission) has a refund policy if your time played falls under a certain amount, or it was recently purchased.
Are you just looking to nitpick or something? Or just like getting into arguments for no reason?
Unless you've got some insight into a shake-up that I somehow managed to miss recently, you're wrong and should probably put effort into checking your facts before spreading them.
You're probably thinking of Stephan Frost, who (fairly) recently left Carbine to work at Blizzard. He however was not a raid developer, let alone the lead raid developer. Frost was the game design producer, which is also his role at Blizzard. His job at Carbine was as follows:
> I work with the Content, Combat, and Economy teams to coordinate their deliverables with the rest of the company. I work to ensure a solid communication flow with the Design department and with other respective departments. Ultimately I do what ever is necessary to get these teams what they need to finish their tasks in a timely fashion.
The lead raid designer is Brett Scheinert (aka CRB_Timetravel), who is still working at Carbine unless I missed something and his LinkedIn (https://www.linkedin.com/in/brettscheinert) and Twitter (https://twitter.com/crb_timetravel) are wrong.
tl;dr - No, the lead raid dev did not leave Carbine, and is not now working at Blizzard. Instead, they received the man who worked with communication between departments and yelled "HARDCORE" a lot.
People in this post are hilarious. There's always angry trolls downvoting GW2 related stuff.
The game has progressed an insane amount since launch (and all of it for free).
There's a huge expansion in the works.
Guild Wars 2 is pretty cheap on G2A.
You can find people selling it for ~$22. Yes, the site is legit.
Since you apparently do not how to use google.
http://www.mmorpg.com/life-is-feudal/news/steam-mmo-version-delayed-to-december-1st-1000046457
Never mentioned anything early access and to play you have to pay.
It's 2018 and one of the best social simulation games is built with ASCII graphics. Regardless of how a game looks, if it plays well it's going to be considered a good game. I mean, Robot Unicorn Attack looks like it was made by a fucking 12 year old girl using a Lisa Frank artbook, but it is so mechanically sound and has that genuine feel of reward that you don't give a damn that Erasure is blaring in your ears.
Toontown is from 2003. Sadly it shut down in 2013 but fans brought it back in the best way possible. Feel free to check it out! This one's more of a family-friendly one.
Toontown? It's a pretty old game that closed down in 2013 but was revived by fans. It's been pretty successful for a now-15 year old game, getting around 2,500 players per day. It's family-friendly, however, so it's not really violent. Sorry if it's not your taste!
About what? Not liking the looks or if that's actually what it looks like? 'Cause that's a screenshot from the front page of their website and I just don't think I could handle it.
http://www.salemthegame.com/screenshots Here's the rest.
A pretty casual, fairly fun game is Trove. It's in closed beta at the moment, however MMORPG are giving out free keys. Besides doing quests/dungeons you can also build things like in Minecraft. So it's co-op friendly. And there is pretty much no dialogue at all, everything is player run. http://www.mmorpg.com/giveaways.cfm/offer/568/Trove-Beta-Key-Giveaway.html
If you do change your mind about the pricing model, there's always Elder Scrolls Online, assuming you like Skyrim you'll also like ESO.
Sorry to ruin this, i wish the game was here too but.. http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/game/498/view/news/read/32572/Blade-Soul-No-North-American-or-European-Release-This-Year.html
Mmorpg.com reached out to them and they confirmed It wont be this year.
Worst part about Neverwinter is the game is fun and leveling is a blast but then it becomes an asbolute grindfest to reach the new levelcap and another absolute grindfest to gear up.
If they just kept that amazing gameplay and teamwork and fleshed out a decent endgame it would be top notch MMORPG.
EDIT It would be unfair if I did not note the fact that the current horrid 60-70 experience is being completely revamped to not be grindy and is not live yet but on test realm. I just found out. So in time it may be fun again until the gear grind
It has a fun pvp system. It's territory / object(scroll) control. different forts linked together, capture them in a row. Highly suggest just checking out some streamers that play the game, one of my favorites is bladeboques - he's become the PvP Emporer on serveral occasions and he's all about hardcore pvp, while being generally pretty cool dude.
A bunch of the fights can become giant forces vs giant forces so it gets pretty intense.
They've changed a lot of things, so i'm not too up to speed with what's going on, so check out twitch when you want to see how a game plays.
It might as well be NOW, because if you don't already own the game, you'll need to buy it anyway, and it comes with free game time.
I actually really liked what mmorpg.com has done with it. The reviewer is publishing columns on the game as he progresses through it instead of writing a single review on it.
Lots of drama over there recently. Goblinworks shut down, Paizo took back the game and is apparently the developer/publisher?
Here is the MMORPG article: http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/game/719/view/news/read/36185/Pathfinder-Online-Paizo-Restructuring-the-Team-Goblinworks-Office-Closes.html
Here is the recording of the mumble chat where they discussed letting people go and closing Goblinworks. https://soundcloud.com/duffy-swiftshadow/keepside-chat-with-lisa-stevens-9215
According to this article from 2010, LOTRO was effectively the largest MMO at that time. WoW was relatively small compared to it. Don't know if things have evolved a lot since then.
Mortal Online
Biased dev here! You should try us out!
We are running a full-pvp/full-loot/firstperson/sandbox mmo with no quests. It's.. like a cross between skyrim and old UO.
It's very niche and I know a lot of folks who just hate it but then there's the people who REALLY enjoy it and can't go back to anything else.
It's f2p but f2p char have their skills capped so it's more of a infinite trial. Thou if anyone want their first month free send me a PM and I will hook you up with a code that gives new acc a month of sub!
edit:
Salem
OH! Also Salem! It's in beta still but god damn is it strange!
I quit PlaneShift within a year or two ago. And boy, can i tell you that it's not worth touching. It's been a technical demo (prealpha) since long before I started back in 2008. To my knowledge it's gone through 2 maybe 3 versions since. Very low quality game with a player base of about 30 concurrent users on a good day.
Ignoring the terrible graphics/low polygon count models, it's a heavy grind and RP focused MMO (to my knowledge, no one plays on the non-RP server). They tried to do a classless, skill based system akin to runescape, and succeeded in creating a system with tons of skills that only level when you specifically practice them, then require that you train them, which costs XP, a load of money, and a secondary point system called Practice Points. Essentially, you earned PP from gaining XP, and it served as a secondary limiter to how far you could train your skills.
I should probably mention that very few of the skills actually level together--that is, if you're making leather armor, you will train ONLY leatherworking. Many other skills simply do nothing, and have never done anything, as the mechanics that they are tied to are not implemented in the game. Gross mismanagement on the behalf of the dev team's lead is also something i recall; that and many pointless bans of friends.
FFXIV $12 per month and the game with all expansions is on sale right now, first month is free or you can try the trial completely free up to level 30 and see if you like it. Being honest, but if you can't afford that then your options are extremely limited to f2p and cheap b2p, neither of which will have good graphics like BDO.
Edit: Maybe TERA would be something you could look at.
The population is stable. There are enough people playing to keep the market afloat and the dungeons clear of the bad guys. Spellbound was the overhaul of the sorcerer class, putting them in the lead in terms of damage output (because neither Bluehole Studio nor En Masse Entertainment have any idea what "balance" means). It also added new dungeons and put a couple old dungeons back into the game. You can read more about that here. There has been another update since then called "Fang and Feather". This patch introduced an archer revamp and the game's first proper raid. Read more about that here.
It's worth mentioning that the "Stamina" system has been removed, as have campfires and charms. Whatever your stats were at 120% Stamina are now your base stats. Charms have been replaced by Battle Solutions. There are 3 tiers of these. Certain dungeons require that you use a Battle Solution at the start in order to proceed (though it is strongly preferred you always use them regardless). Alchemy has essentially been broken, with no word on when this particular crafting system will be fixed. The only things that can currently be crafted under Alchemy are the aforementioned Battle Solutions. It seems to be business as usual with the other professions, but I'm not 100% certain on that since I haven't dealt with Armor/Weapon/Etching crafting since the recent patches.
If I had to summarize the state of the game in one word, it would be "adequate". It's still the same old TERA you know and love (or don't). Whatever pushed you to quit the game before likely hasn't changed. If it was just a break you needed, I'd recommend giving the game a try again.
Anarchy Online should run on a toaster. It has a free to play option. It's not modern day though, it's futuristic. Despite its age, AO has one of the coolest designs. The music and atmosphere is some of the best I've experienced in a MMO to this day.
Anarchy Online.
Not entirely on the money for what you asked but this is still the best MMO I've ever played and I compare everything to this (everything falls short). I don't play anymore just because I don't really have the time to put in that I used to.
Dofus sounds like what you're looking for. Its got 20 professions, not counting the harvesting professions, and a total of 15 classes. The combat is turn based, so its definitely not your typical ''WoW clone'' MMO. There is no main story quest that pushes you from one quest hub to the next. You pave your own path. Worth a shot.
Other than that I would suggest waiting for Archeage.
"This is false. First part of the "gearscore bonus" increases your attack stats (AP), but also second part buffs defense stats (DP). Because all players will have their Attack power and Defense power increased the PVP balance will not change. Gearscore bonuses are linear, gear progression is exponential - so weaker players will gain higher benefit for less effort."
This is incorrect. The higher your gear, the more damage you do.
You can check the values here:
https://www.blackdesertonline.com/news/view/1266
From 250 AP to 270 you get 80! extra AP.
As you said it's exponential, which means THE LESS GEAR YOU HAVE THE WORSE IT IS
This is what a 570 GS person can do vs 400-450 GS people.
https://clips.twitch.tv/SmokyPowerfulNuggetsArgieB8
The patch is absolutely horrible.
The "MixAndMatch" is a predatory tactic because new players see it as a "SALE", as it is advertised in the cash shop.
Also very important to note that you cannot MixAndMatch Outfits which right now are more expensive than before.
You can see a lot of streamers and threads on reddit and forums which are very unhappy with the PVP changes.
The no more one shot mechanic is ok. The perma stiff/no more combos one is shit.
For anyone looking for a Pokemon multiplayer game in the meantime, I might suggest Pokemon Showdown. It's a battle simulator with a large community.
There's also /r/pokemonnox for a more traditional MMO, but that may never be released.
Perhaps check out Duolingo or other services that "gamify" learning. You learn something cool (like a new language or how to write code) but with progression and milestones that can scratch that Skinner Box itch.
Otherwise, start going hiking or find a fitness or rock climbing gym. Free time is a real luxury that you may find you won't always have. Try all kinds of stuff to see what you like, and hopefully you'll find something both fulfilling and enjoyable that you can do in your free time.
That's not the worst thing about the theft. It's that the theft is celebrated when WoW does it, and condemned when anyone else does anything that WoW did once, and then they're permanently labeled a "WoW Clone".
Salary is not the full picture, it excludes the cost to the business for each employee.
The ballpark figure has been $10,000 per month per employee for a long, long time https://kotaku.com/why-video-games-cost-so-much-to-make-1818508211
With many devs now feeling it undershoots the real cost by as much as 30% http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2017-10-10-rising-game-dev-costs-put-squeeze-on-mid-tier-studios
At $10,000 per man month CIG have burnt through approximately $152 million, at $13,000 per man month $197 million.
Current employee numbers are 457, at $10k monthly cost is $45 million per year with an income of approximately $36 million.

sort of... hand crafted 'parcels' are procedural generated and stitched together and then populated / adjusted - with worlds having different rules and features etc [and worlds only last a set time e.g. a month before being destroyed and 'won']
e.g. interview on 'history simulator' generation
Seriously, every response you injected salt and smacked it down. Take a look at this and start trying games until you find one that sticks. That is what most of us do.

Blue means released, Green means in early release, beta, Orange means under development.
Hopping around will find some hidden gems.
>The funny thing is, how do we even know ESO is even popular?
Two main reasons:
ESO Plus subscriptions on PS4 are consistently ranked as one of the top sellers in the monthy reports that Sony puts out. ESO Plus came in 3rd place for all of 2016. http://blog.us.playstation.com/2017/01/06/playstation-stores-top-downloads-of-2016/
The game has sold over 1.5 million new copies since last June. http://www.mmorpg.com/elder-scrolls-online/news/matt-firor-85-million-eso-players-right-now-based-on-sales-1000043197
Here's some side-by-side comparison screenshots from when it was in testing.
Still a pretty blocky world, just a better shaders and shadows. If you're into oldschool non-fantasy MMOs, it may attract a few old players back, but won't really interest the younger crowd.
Also there are sites like this http://www.mmorpg.com/conan-exiles. They think it's enough mmo to list it as such, so why can't mmo subreddit? MMO stands for what? Massive multiplayer online game, Conan isn't such? Normally I don't get triggered like this, but seeing it's always you saying these stupid things make me wonder, what is wrong in you? :o Why so much anger for so meaningless stuff.
Have you been under a rock the last 5 years?
http://www.mmorpg.com/mobile/games.cfm?ismb=1&sCol=rankHype&sOrder=desc
Vast majority of those games are on life support, with about 20 with reasonably healthy populations, and maybe 5 considered "popular", WoW of course being the largest still.
Easily 5-6 MMOs launch per year, only one every 2 years or so survives beyond life support. Vast majority launched are decidedly not AAA, and go into maintenance mode within 6 months.
Plenty of other sites say it has reached one million players in the west, including Massively: http://massivelyop.com/2016/01/25/blade-soul-hits-one-million-players-worldwide/
And mmorpg.com: http://www.mmorpg.com/showVideo.cfm/videoId/4781
And I could go on.
Strangely I've yet to see a link to the press release. Still, as I've said earlier, even if there are one million players a lot of them are gold sellers.
> the dlc is 100% singleplayer
Orsinium is. Imperial City is almost just the opposite.
EDIT: BTW, Orsinium isn't entirely singleplayer either. World bosses in Wrothgar are designed for small groups.
For those who loved Everquest and old-school MMOs, you should be aware of two projects:
Pantheon is a spiritual successor to Everquest made by the original Everquest designer:
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1588672538/pantheon-rise-of-the-fallen
Shoud of the Avatar is a spiritual successor to Ultima Online made by the original designer of Ultima Online.
https://www.shroudoftheavatar.com/?page_id=29385
They're doing a cross-promotion. Fund both games and get a special in-game item in both.
If you want to fund Shroud of the Avatar, they're also doing another special promotion. Early backers got bonus items. But right now, existing early backers (Founders) can gift a pledge to someone else at a reduced cost AND the recipient gets the bonus items as if they are a Founder as well.
If you're interested, send me a PM and I can help you get the reduced cost Founder pledge for SotA. It includes alpha/beta access as well.
Isn't Carbine just a subsidiary? kind of like ArenaNet? if that's the case, they've shut down a team/game that were "healthy" before for seemingly no reason
>What Mmorpg's are you guys playing??
Playing Perpetuum right now. Its like EVE Online but without the monthly subscription, and instead of ships in space you're mechs on an alien planet, otherwise its the same concept.
>What do you look for in an MMO or is hoping that will come out?
I'm a sucker for games that allow me to craft and manipulate the market. If I don't have to fire a shot to succeed then I'm content, I mean I'm not against violence but I'd rather have someone else die for me then go out and die myself.
As for upcoming MMOs I'm quite hyped for Fortnite currently, it looks to be right up my alley with crafting, tons of loot, base building, etc.
>I always wanted an MMORPG with a little bit of lootjack on death, but not full deletion of character(I haven't tried this yet).
I recommend you go look at Salem The Game. The graphics are a bit odd. But its a good game that aside, you have full loot pvp, there is permadeath however to actually kill another player is a MASSIVE undertaking as it requires having learned all the skills and means opening yourself up to retaliation so people outright murdering one another is usually a rare happening.
Gameplay is that you're a colonist from england sent to colonize the new world, sadly they've picked the very worst person possible as you know nothing, literally. You have to forage food and natural goods to research and improve your understanding of your surroundings, the more you research the more buildings you unlock, the more stuff you can craft, ect.

http://www.curse.com/betas/trove-curse-kami-mount-giveaway
2 free mount codes, theres also a refferal dragon mount on their official site If youre playing together with a friend you can just referal each other.
Only tried it today so no guide but somethings I wondered and now have the answers to:'
Starting the game you immediatly pick a class and clicking on it throws you into game immediatly
No class info or clips like youre used to.
You dont get to choose your looks immediatly
You run through the very short tutorial and then get into the ''hub''
And there are barber npc thingies to change your hairstyle and color, faces or skincolor and eye color.
When youre playing even for a just a while you quickly find tons of items that you can throw into a loot collector to turn it into vanity.
You can freely change the look of any visible item at any time.
Surprisingly fun and much less confusing as when I tried it in the beta.
Have fun!
FFXIV, Tera, Ragnarok Online, Rift, ESO, Neverwinter, LOTRO, EQ, EQ2, SWTOR, you know...just got here and click on a random title, I'm sure it will have what you are looking for. http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/show/released/sCol/finalRank/sOrder/desc
It's cool to see people support a game they really enjoyed. I just think it's a lost cause. I doubt the devs would want to bring it back and support it in a western market after seeing it fail under a big company like SOE. If on the off chance suba does get it, they'll probably do what they did with DOMO and throw it up on Kickstarter and try to get a bunch of money before they release it with promises of giving supporters a bunch of insensitives and still doing significant with the game.
Also, Looks like the internet blew up this morning with Wizardry Online Revival articles!!, what, no. A majority of it were forum posts with 1 or 2 replies, aside the one in suba, other less than popular review sites. If we check out MMORPG.com for example, your cause isn't getting a whole lot of love.
http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/loadNews/33468/Fans-Seek-to-Revive-the-Game
And finally, there's like 5 accounts between this post and one you posted for wizardry a month ago that only has posts in your threads. Wut.
They've said they have 500k unique logins per day, and this was back in April.
http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/game/446/view/forums/thread/410340/page/1
So 600k subscribers seems waaaaay too low, specially taking into account how most servers have queues and character creation restrictions (even though they've opened a few of them since launch) I'm pretty sure the game has surpassed the million mark long ago.
Also nobody knows for sure if the 2.5 million are registered account or subscriptions, as they've always talked about it as "players". That said it's likely you are right on that.
What we know for sure though, is that the game is doing much better now.
In the PS4 launch trailer, at the end it says "1.8 million adventurers worldwide." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YKDm_9CGfpY&list=UUpx2BZg8ABgaDV50sGJtWAg&index=58
That was in February, and the "2.5 million" thing was announced in September (that is before 2.4 and the expansion announcement), so I think is pretty fair to assume the game has been growing like crazy, and as long as they keep their content pacing, I don't see it changing anytime soon.
Other recent MMOs with a Mac client:
Guild Wars 2, Elder Scrolls Online. Neither are F2P though, but GW2 at least is without subscription. Both somewhat different than WoW in gameplay. There's also EVE, which is an entirely different type of game.
Here's a list of MMOs with OSX clients. Blue ones have been released, orange ones are in development or coming soon.
This website claims it has keys. http://www.mmorpg.com/giveaways.cfm/offer/502/Elder-Scrolls-Online-Beta-Weekend-Key-Giveaway.html
I don't know if its a legit give away but mmorpg.com is a legit site.
I have to agree the first few betas I was in I did not like the game at all but this most recent beta I had a blast and pre-ordered afterwards. Also it helps that I was tired of other games I had been playing and looking for something a bit different, so when I read this article on MMORPG.com it really piqued my interest more than in the past: http://www.mmorpg.com/showFeature.cfm/loadFeature/8246/ESO-vs-Wildstar-NDA-Free-Edition.html
Well, this is highly personal of course. If you are not interested in a sandbox game or good graphics are a must.. then you may stop reading here :)
If you're still reading I'd like to pitch Wurm Online. It's a huge living world where you decide your style and role. Seasons come and go with their own characteristics, weather changes (you probably shouldn't go sailing in a thick fog), animals are born as babies and grow to die of old age if they're not met with an untimely death, trees grow and die and if all of them are cut down and not replanted desertification will set in.
Every item, building, roads and bridges are player made and depending on their materials and quality they last from minutes to months before decaying away (if not repaired). You decide where you build your home (no areas are instanced), the size, the materials, the furniture. All the objects have models too so if you kill a boar and get his tusks you can place them as a decoration in your home or craft something out of them.
You can terraform, mine, fish, hunt, build, craft, farm. Everything is skill based (around 140 skills IIRC). You decide your own fate :)
Players hold events like the one where experienced and newer players gather in a large hall and skilled players improve newbies' tools for free. Veterans get experience, newbies get better quality tools. Everyone goes happy on their merry way afterwards.
If you start on a PVE server but would like to participate in PVP, no problem. You build a boat, pack your stuff in it and sail across the server boundaries to a PVP server.
If you're intrigued, you can try it for free. Download's not that big. Word of warning though, you will be very lost at the beginning. Find other players and collaborate :)
As far as I know, there are no such sites. I know because I have my own indie MMORPG, Eternal Lands and we don't have any links from a site dedicated to Indie MMORPGs. There are some sites for indie games, but non (that I know of) for MMOs.
Try Eternal Lands. It doesn't have fixed classes, but you usually can't be everything at once. But you can change your build on the fly. The world is not huge, but it is big enough, and there are lots of secret areas. There are also over 200 NPCs with their own stories, etc. Not a lot of quests, 50 or so only, but they are better than just "go kill 10 rats". I mean, there are complex quests and simple quests as well.
The end game is very far, it takes 3+ years to reach it, but it's fun along the way.
P.S. Full disclosure: It's my game.
I found the last bit a little odd:
>Check out the TERA site to learn more.
The main site has zero information about the Call to Arms update. The "This week in TERA" header links to information for last week. There isn't even any information on the forums.
I'd still recommend playing it. I've been rolling a few new toons recently to gank people in ToTW/Foremans and those areas have been pretty busy.
It's also free to play, OP! /r/anarchyonline
http://www.anarchy-online.com/ (also on steam)
Does Wakfu count as obscure? It's essentially a sequel to ~~MapleStory~~ Dofus. Like its predecessor, it's incredibly charming and has some really fun design choices. The political system and combat in particular are great; I really wish more games had turn-based combat like Wakfu.
Hasn't it always been free to play? I believe you could always subscribe for added benefits such as the ones listed here: http://www.wakfu.com/en/mmorpg/membership/why-subscribe-to-wakfu. It doesn't look like anything has changed in that regard.
>Well, it should be free and not too much pay to win (not planning on spending money).
Here's the deal. Be realistic. What do you think you're going to get for completely free? It's a rough world out there for people expecting to drop zero cash.
Best one that I can come up with that you can legitimately play completely free, has a good community and a decent end-game is (Neverwinter)[http://www.arcgames.com/en/games/neverwinter]. At max level it can get grindy, but the combat is solid and the in-game world is good (especially if you're a D&D fan).
You do understand that BDO haves tons and tons of people playing it, a lot of the servers are packed full of players. 6 of the (Not including New player servers) are crowed. The population is really healthy, with 3 million players playing it. Not concurrent players. That probably more around 200K-400K. Which is near/higher than FFXIV.
No, you need to go through the english BDO website here. As someone who played the first beta and is eagerly awaiting the second, I can honestly say it's a great game.
Breaking Rule 5 by calling other folks delusional. But for those who did not read the patch notes as well. Here you go. <code>https://www.aiononline.com/news/awakened-legacy-patch-notes</code>
How about open universe? EVE has the most engaging, adrenaline fueled, meaningful PvP I ever played. Now if you're specifically looking for medieval fantasy themed games, I guess you're out of luck. It's been a bad season (decade) for those with good PvP.
I agree with the choice, but it was more than simple bad luck with Microsoft that hurt the game. You can start with the management team. Plenty of blame shared among all of them.
Redragon Perdition. I picked this up for $35 last December, intending to use it for a couple of months. It has since seen a month of playtime in FFXIV, and plenty in other MMOs. I use it every single day and can't recommend it enough.
And it's 4.5 stars on Amazon with 2.5k reviews, which is petty crazy.
I thought I was going to be linking you a dead game... but it turns out its alive!! Face of Mankind. See you in game :D Want an introduction to how incredibly roleplay this is? Their Kickstarter vid is perfect.
This game will definitely not be for everyone, but because we're talking roleplay, I think this needs to be mentioned. Sandbox games. Sandbox games. They don't just encourage roleplay, they seem to incite it for some reason. Maybe because they for some reason stick close to reality we know, maybe because they tend to introduce more mundane tasks like mining. Regardless, if you are looking for serious roleplay. Look at some sandbox games. Unfortunately they are extremely rare, and I can't name any besides FoM and EVE. Which I both dearly love.
Also.. if you really want it... think you can handle it... RP MUDS..
I'm 100% sure it's the FOV and has nothing to do with graphic settings. Too low or too high fov can cause some nasty headaches. BDO default fov is at 50 (low as fuck) and FFXIV default fov is low too. Also Graphic settings don't tend to cause headaches unless you have stuff that fucks with the camera when you'r moving like motion blur ,camera shake etc
Brightness ProTip: Install flux & play on windowed
LotRO doubles its revenue after going f2p
Understanding the Digital Games Market in Asia: Spending Behavior and Sentiments: Slide 16 says the average spend per player in free to play games in Japan and Korea is $30/month. Are people who want MMOs without microtransactions willing to pay $30 or even $25/month? Of course not. If an MMO came out today wanting to charge more than $15/month to play it, this subreddit would blow up with people calling them greedy.
Free to play not only generates more money, but it also comes with less negative press because people say microtransactions are fine in f2p games. So why would a dev of a new MMO ever do anything else?
If you buy Elder Scrolls Online now, you'll never pay a subscription for it, and in my opinion the game is excellent. Their Buy2Play model is also ideal in that it offers the full game to you, with only cosmetic and minor convenience items available for ongoing subscribers.
Plus you can get the game ridiculously cheap (>$30) here.
> No, moron, it was the goal to produce a prototype to get additional funding with, they were very transparent with that.
Your memory betrays you. Here's the Kickstarter page to refresh your memory. Go ahead and watch the video. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1588672538/pantheon-rise-of-the-fallen
Go ahead and point to where they were "very up front" about what you are funding. I mean, if he's being very up front, it would be mentioned in the video somewhere, right? Instead, it was only ever mentioned as a note in the FAQ, which was added well after the Kickstarter began.
Now here is what it looks like when someone is up-front about funding a prototype: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1675907842/pathfinder-online-technology-demo
See the difference? First, it's in the fucking TITLE of the page. But more importantly, it isn't just words, it's actions. They don't sell access to the MMO, because they aren't funding the MMO, they're funding the tech demo. Do you actually think anybody that pledged $500 to Brad to name an in-game item thought they were naming an item in the fucking PROTOTYPE? Of course not. They were buying parts of the game, and thus he was selling the game. He was promising what he knew he couldn't deliver for $800k.
He sure as hell wasn't being up front about what the $800k would buy. After the Kickstarter he was more honest, and that's probably what you remember. But that's being revisionist.
