Derek, I'm gonna let you in on a secret. Every major publisher launches multiplayer games on AWS. EVERY single one. If it wasn't saving them money, they wouldn't do it! I can't mention exact ones because I legit AM under NDA and happen to like my job, but I oversee large system launches as part of my job. Did you notice how many sites went down with the S3 outage? More runs on AWS than half the AWS employees even know. Again, you are an idiot and don't know what you're talking about. But please show us how colocating servers that run idle for years since your "games" don't even make it to the bargain bin is more cost effective.
Edit: also wanted to point out that lots of indie small games have launched on AWS, along with a huge number of mobile games and game for all platforms. Do they all spend big like the big publishers? Of course not. They don't need to. But you better let them know how much cheaper colocating some "Dell Xeon" servers are! Save us from ourselves again Derek!
Edit 2: Derek! Look at all these industry idiots using AWS for games! This was years ago admittedly, but maybe one of us shitizens will let you borrow our time machine so you can go warn them. https://aws.amazon.com/gaming/reinvent-2014-slides/
His goatposts just broke the sound barrier, they're moving that fast
I think this is the evidence which has forced Smart to suddenly backflip so hard he's at risk of whiplash
>This is an amazing read by @Kotaku "The Collapse Of Visceral's Ambitious Star Wars Game"
Article in question about the end of Visceral, the developer of the Dead Space series. Worth reading.
>Guys! Let me know if EA sends you a harshly worded threat for writing a story with anon sources. 4:58 PM - 30 Oct 2017
>You know, like what those clowns over at RSI/CIG did to TheEscapist when they ran a similar story about a doomed + over budget project
>But since nobody in the industry actually does crap like that, aside from not running an active scam, it's not likely to happen.
He's actually just claiming that he came up with the term "Dynamic Entity Destruction", not that he came up with the concept of destructible objects.
A quick google search found this from June 2000: https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/comp.sys.ibm.pc.games.strategic/_FZAB8Y-uq0 which supports his claim.
Another quick search found that the game Hexen (released in 1995) had destructible objects in it: http://www.mobygames.com/game/hexen-beyond-heretic
Basically, he made up a new term for an existing thing.
It's called the "Smart Community", hahahahaha! and it's run by derek smart, hahaha! The oxy*moron* of it all, hahaha! It's anything but (definition) of smart.

So instead of paying the 10 dollars to get back into SA, or can't wait for Lowtax, he (ds) opted to sign up for a free make your forum site. Looks like his ~~games~~ product isn't selling ~~that well~~ at all. I guess he got tired of getting kicked out (semi banned for doxxing) in those other forums he frequent and start his own forum.
-
Guess what, I and I implore others, if derek smart starts with his doxing shenanigans, and harassing/bullying people (making threats/scare tatics to people to get what you (ds) want), just archive it, report him along with archived evidence/s to the people who runs http://www.simplemachines.org/ or and https://smartcatdesign.net/ for his blog site.
Here you go, Derek. How to merge two branches of code 101. I do this day in and out, and it's really not a big deal... phew, your 'old school' pre-CVS/SVN never-check-in-your-code-hope-the-power-never-goes-out-mid-save knowledge is showing.
Ah, so Derek is now going to buy a Battle Royale template for UE4 and thinks it's a quick&easy way to get his new 'A DEREK SMART GAME'? Well, good luck with that Derek! ;)
> Nope. I didn't "misinterpret" anything. I quoted what he stated verbatim. I think what you meant to say is that I misunderstood what he meant
I'm going to be that person
http://www.thesaurus.com/browse/misinterpret
Guess what's there as a synonym. Yep - "Misunderstand"
They mean the same damn thing, Derek.
When your enemy goes to ground, leave him no ground to go to. - Sun Tzu - paraphrased from The Art of War
When I go to defend my actions I usually end up owning myself with my own contradictory statements within 24 hours. - Derek Smart (observation)
It's like he's his own enemy...
It's hard to believe someone has this little self awareness.

Hey Derek Smart , if you read this, the only thing that your burning is your own reputation, oh wait you ruined that like 20 years ago.
here's a fact for you not an opinion;
As we both know, that's called "back peddaling". I wonder if Derek's bike has multiple reverse gears given how much he ends up going in that direction?

Disclaimer: Bold added by self for emphasis ;)
Yep. And what Derek fails to point out is that this move could help CIG and backers in a number of ways:
I'm told that Lumberyard has FULL VR support already built in. https://aws.amazon.com/blogs/gamedev/build-for-any-vr-device-with-lumberyard-beta-1-3/ . Iirc the CryEngine version that CIG were using wasn't fully supporting it, thus would require a lot of work by CIG.
As "Gamelift" and "Gridmate" (Amazons instancing / session engines) allow for on-demand instancing, that could possibly help CIG to implement "private servers". Which was one of the original pledge goals.
As the engine is provided free, that helps people to create mods. Which is another original pledge goal.
>I am still going to write a blog. Considering my knowledge of LumberYard, wait.
There seems to be something missing after "wait"
"wait until I can quickly read some 'What is Lumberyard' starter guide so I can pretend that I actually have a clue." perhaps?
Here Derek, I'll help you get started with your 'knowledge': Lumberyard Details
"It turns out that "abject lesson" is an eggcorn, a special form of malaprop (wrong word usage) caused by two English words sounding about the same in a particular dialect. In this case, the culprit might be Indian English, which pronounces the "a" in "about" and "abject" very much like an "o" sound."

If you want to correct people to seem smarter than you actually are, please ensure that you are right before doing so, or no one will take you seriously. Would you like to give the person you replied to an 'abject apology'?
This subreddit is a valuable asset to counter the disinformation campaign being run by Derek Smart and has shone a spotlight on his malicious harassment of other people like Sandi Gardener.
http://massivelyop.com/2016/08/11/star-citizens-sandi-gardiner-vacates-social-media-over-harassment/
If you want to know what constitutes doxxing and harassment you should ask Derek, after all hes the only one whose been globally banned from reddit for it.
Derek, I know you read this sub, please take some time to review these helpful instructional guides (the first one even has fun superhero pictures, just like your LoD comic books!)

I was wrong.
Looks like you're still only halfway to WC3 standards, Derek. Please find it in your heart to forgive my layman's error!
Well it appears it says in the GameLift FAQ that it shouldn't be used for MMOs. Which is obvious because it's designed for session based games. So obviously CIG will use that in conjunction with the other stack. The rest of the services are perfectly fine for MMOs. So he's just picking and choosing.
Here's where it says it(just search mmo) https://aws.amazon.com/gamelift/faq/
This pops up on the main page of lodgame.com. Still large parts of the website are down despite this future tech.

Conspiracy theorists always have a grandioze plan. In reality he has little reach. He mostly has goons and gamergater followers, media is ignoring him with the exception of the escapist back in october and also the viewrates of the escapist are getting less impressive anyways
He has supposedly 'delayed' his court case and instead is baiting CIG into suing him. He said he had a leak about the upcoming sale but is supposedly afraid for his source to be revealed so he did not actually reveal it (how convenient).
Basically he is a conspiracy idiot that is trying to get under CIG's skin, by framing every little thing he can find into something dubious. But apart from impatient backers now running for a refund he is not actually doing much of substance overall.
When CIG releases 2.0 he will just be a grumpy shouty man, while overall people will be impressed but understanding that development of the rest of the game simply takes time
> You spin them up on demand.
You don't even need to do this - you can have the systems themselves decide if they need more compute: https://aws.amazon.com/autoscaling/
Can't do that with a room full of Dell XEONs.
Ehh, I would've linked the other stuff too, but that requires a lot of freaking digging, he just puts out so much bullshit. If Obey-the-Fist was here, he would usually dig up the Links for me. I hope he has fun reading all this stuff; (speaking for myself) be well bud, you are missed around here!

edit: note:
> FYI several academic articles and university thesis have been written about the AI which I developed for BC3K. Yeah, Google it.
I did actually and found one online pdf. that only mentioned his name and bc3k, and that's it, and "wasn't used or listed as a Reference" ... other than to mention him as an example. So derek trying to inflate more than what he is (his mo), they didn't talked "About", more like a one mention (name drop). The burden of proof is on him for making extraordinary claims. He did provide 5 links, 2 links are dead, the one already mentioned above, and one article that talks about bck3 saying that it learns from it's players; does it? Has this author seen this so called code or logic in action, he doesn't really go into any detail how Derek's nn ai function, and a third article 144pages of various ai, a lot about fighting games. Ultimately None of the so called thesis used or and linked derek's neural net ai and bc3k as "Reference" in their thesis, thus rendering derek's claim invalid (lie, they did not talked about him or bc3k). I would love derek to prove me wrong, to link and or post up these so called articles and thesis by academics and universities that actually (not just mention) "Reference" his neural net AI**.
They've always said there was a limit. Always. The numbers are still way beyond the limits of what a 32-bit system can do.
Either he's an idiot (and a clueless developer), or he's intentionally trying to deceive people by downplaying CIG's accomplishments (or both).
When I was making Ur-Quan Masters HD we had to modify the engine of Ur-Quan Masters to support HD resolutions. Higher resolutions meant bigger map sizes. That was a whole lot of work.
But it wasn't impossible. There's no magic here. Just like persistence, others have done the same thing. And they literally have the guys who helped build CryEngine working on it.
CIG have no reason to lie here! None. It's obvious to anybody familiar with CryEngine that they had to do some stuff under the hood to get large map sizes. Whether or not that is an actual 64 bit or some amazing fakerey (like Ascent)...the fact still remains: We've got huge worlds now.
But like some conspiracy nut, the truth doesn't matter. Confirming his bias is the only thing that matters. If you spend all your time looking for lizard people, you're going to see lizard people everywhere. I bet CIG could open source the whole damn code and he still wouldn't believe it.
My thoughts as well. Someone had been converting the assets from lod into unity. The results, and info were glorious.
P.s. Lodt on android
Lod tactics has gotten 4 stars for the platform it was built for. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.inc3000ad.lodtactics&hl=en&referrer=utm_source%3Dgoogle%26utm_medium%3Dorganic%26utm_term%3Dline+of+defense+tactics&pcampaignid=APPU_1_y_7iVuCbGdGSjwOG_oGwCA
So it being panned for lazy porting is all on dédé.

he gave away free keys for the game, but you had to buy in at $9.99......let me see, he's giving me a free key, but I have to buy the basic TAK , before using the free key, lol, hmm no, it's either free or not
don't you get key when buy the basic intro part of the game at $9.99, then if I want equipment I have buy these packages at:
50560 Line Of Defense MMO – TAK LI $19.99 50562 Line Of Defense MMO – TAK LII $29.99 50564 Line Of Defense MMO – TAK LIII $39.99 50566 Line Of Defense MMO – TAK LIV $59.99
what a bargain
and the best part is the game is Early Access, DS says that because of EA he is not allowed to give refunds, lol, Steam policy
I haven't read everything you two are discussing, but according to the main license terms, https://aws.amazon.com/service-terms/#57._Amazon_Lumberyard_Engine, it is a "non-sublicensable" agreement.
That said, big corporations don't let opportunities for money pass them by over contract terms like that, and I'm sure if it came to that, both sides would attempt to work something out. CIG still owns their modifications for LY, I see no reason they couldn't license those out. Software companies have dependencies all the time. Lots need Oracle, they aren't relicensing Oracle when they sell their products, but it's a requirement. I see no reason CIG couldn't say the same for LY, it's a dependency., And I see no reason for Amazon to say " no you can't push people to use our product with your improvements/tools/product". That would be like Amazon being mad that some people are resellers for EC2 instances which they obviously aren't.
Tha said, I'm an engineer, I don't know the in's and out's of business as well as many others, and there is likely something I'm not thinking of. Oh and him/her/it, "Meat Popsicle" works.
What happens in the real world is a lot of enterprise will use a hybrid cloud approach where they deploy workloads across a mix of private and public virtualization environments.
VMware extending their management framework to manage AWS in future which will extensively streamline hybrid cloud stuff.
https://aws.amazon.com/vmware/
With game specific services like Lumberyard being able to interconnect with these kinds of management frameworks, you can see AWS realizes the demand for cloud services for gaming.
I wonder if Derek has tried to call Bezos and tell him why he knows game publishers don't use the cloud.
Actually no, they would have absolutely lost. In all my complaint emails I referenced a case in Washington where precedent had been set on whether or not a crowdfunded "pledge" was a donation or a purchase and therefore protected under consumer law. ( http://www.geekwire.com/2014/attorney-general-asylum-playing-cards-crowdfunded-project/ )
Coincidentally that was the same Washington court that stopped Trump's immigration ban, as a side note.
So this stuff isn't new, and you should take these ruling's seriously. CIG is simply taking the path of least resistance and trying to create as little noise as possible.
...and never mind the fact that his "book" cover is copied DIRECTLY from somebody else. Actually two things:
(Somebody has already documented all this but I thought I'd bring it up.) If D's ~~Beagle~~ Legal Department has cleared that "book" cover they need to be fired.
And Disbarred.
But he calls people commando because that's the kind of hilarity that makes SomethingAwful the best website in the USA!
Oh no wait down 2,393 places in the last 3 months.
Well Derek is right about something, there's an extinction level event going on.
Derek and Bandit can be directly linked ~~HERE~~. (Sledgejammer has the twitch link covered)
Regarding William Usher, didn't his sources, including this "radio host", originally say they were approached by him? Seems to be the other way around.
Edit: Yes, the twitch video was deleted soon after the link was posted here.
HERE is their MixCloud link of the broadcast. 1:03:29 is where you can find the statement in question from David Maddaluno, station owner.
MixCloud's controls are atrocious. HERE is David Maddaluno speaking about DS putting him in contact with Bandit, who in turn put him in contact with William Usher.
Actually from what I've read, it looks like they've switched completely.
"Lumberyard" is the actual name for Amazons 3D Engine. Which itself is a derivative of the CryEngine engine. Which is why CIG's switch over was pretty easy. The backend stuff is "Gamelift" (instancing engine), "GridMate" and the AWS networking infracstructure.
https://aws.amazon.com/lumberyard/details/
https://aws.amazon.com/lumberyard/faq/
Ofc the switch doesn't replace absolutely everything that CIG have done. Its one thing to have an engine in your hands, but another to get it to do what you want. Which is were CIG's work on specific SC / SQ42 related tech come into play. Such as the internal physics grid, and planetary stuff.
https://steamdb.info/app/266620/graphs/

I really hope you're trolling. Either that or you don't understand the meaning of the word "pedantic".
> Developed by 3000AD, Galactic Command Online was a sci-fi MMO featuring both space and planetary combat. The game featured first-person and third-person shooter style ground combat on planets, along with aerial planetary combat, as well as space combat. Players were able to transition from planet to space seamlessly in a persistent, open game world.
http://www.mmorpg.com/mobile/games.cfm?game=496&ismb=1
What does that sound like to you? Do you see why Derek is so butthurt about Star Citizen? He wanted to make the game Star Citizen is becoming, but Chris Roberts found a million people willing to back the idea, where Derek's reputation for making mediocre games doomed GCO from the start.
But hey, if you're just trolling, gg, you got me.
Is this the Derek Smart salt generation video you were referring to?
I can see how this would make Smart salty
I guess now he has to say it's faked and pre-rendered in Maya and shitizens mass reported him or something
I suppose that in itself is kind of alarming when you think about it, even VPNs aren't safe for obscuring your identity, there was an example recently where some guy got arrested based on evidence from PureVPNs logs that they keep on their users (while saying they don't)
> Goons as a gaming group are fucked.
Goonswarms/squads etc are generally a few hardcore dedicated gamers and a horde of gibbering idiots willing to do the bidding of their overlords which is why they were able to control a large amount of EvE online, combined with CCP's tolerance of their tactics.
But most games aren't structured in such a way that organised large scale griefing is permitted - goons have to play by the rules in those games, and get banned when they don't. Part of the reason that the goons hate Star Citizen so much is that a few of them attempted to stage one of the famous cringey goon "very special operations" and use SJW mechanisms to blackmail CIG into giving them the same control over the game that CCP gives them. Of course that went down like a wet fart and the goons were humiliated (of course they love humiliation like some kind of fetish).
I don't think it's the goons association with Derek that's causing the ongoing collapse. Most goons are middle aged or older neckbeards who were there when the site was "cool" back in the couple of years just after the turn of the century. They just forgot to leave when everyone else did. This means organised goon guilds/corps are starved for members, presumably many of the gamers, both hardcore and casuals would have shifted into *chan groups if they still want to grief, or just dispersed onto other games and groups.
There's no core group of hardcore gamers to lead them. There's no horde of gibbering idiots to follow them. Somethingawful goons are now just a core group of gibbering idiots.
The latest version is available on a pay-what-you-like plan.
https://www.cryengine.com/get-cryengine
No idea how. Maybe they got enough development advice from CIG that they had minimal outlay in building it...
> Of course we would have to develop original art assets, but I'm sure that there are many artists and level designers in the community who could and would help us out; who probably even have art assets ready to use. And don't free engines like Unity or UE4 at least cover core mechanics like walking, collision, maybe even complex interactions like firing weapons?
well UE4 helps out greatly there, there is a whole marketplace full of characters and guns and even game mechanics as blueprint systems all ready to import and legit to use for your own stuff if you buy them. only the whole sets of stuff are expensive too. there is also everything in the tutorial levels and the standard engine content as free assets.
and yes the engine has existing funcions for most things and also the starter templates even have an animated character already hooked up and ready to run around from second one.
Beaten? I've literally been laughing at you. Lol. Good job, guess someone should tell CIG they are broke then! Lol. It obviously takes a genius to understand that a company keeps selling their product to not go out of business. Quick, tell Amazon!
And sorry thought you MIGHT have two brain cells to do a search. Guess I was wrong! Here ya go! https://www.amazon.com/Google-Dummies-Computers-Brad-Hill/dp/0764544209
Still waiting on your successful crowd funding campaign. Just gonna ignore that huh? Derek was wrong about names, about FTC investigations, about lawsuits, about studios closing, about CIG being out of money, about 2.0 being impossible, about 2.63 being shown at gamescom, about Ali B being fired, about Tony Z leaving CIG, about mass walkouts, about money laundering, about Amazon buying CIG, about the engine switch ( he doesn't even understand what a fucking game engine is) about his own fucking games ever launching. He was caught red-handed taking made up bullshit from "Steve" and IMMEDIATELY tweeting it, and then tried to play it off like he actually knew all along. So, is it worse to be wrong, or just pretend to be wrong and still be wrong? lol You taking anything he says seriously is just sad. And anyone who believes him after he's been proven such a liar and moron, must equally be as idiotic. But sure, lets beleive him, thats why CIG is out of money and not making the game....except they are. So...your "facts" or reality? pick one? Obviously it isn't the latter. So, I repeat, fuck off troll lol. You aren't "winning" you're just making yourself look stupider with each post.
I remove post, I found where he talks about himself though. I think the Karefa-Smart family are american former slaves that moved back to africa in late 19th century. Probably a very big family now.

yes, after sending out those free access keys, only a few players may have actually used them, oh yeah, to get those free keys, you'll have to spend $9.99 to get that free key, many words of caution, DS will not refund your money, mainly the game is consider EA Early Access Game, to DS that means no refunds by Steam's policies for Early Access Games
from Steam's web page for LOD......http://store.steampowered.com/app/266620

The only thing I could find is that Erin Roberts was Studio manager of Gizmondo Manchester back in the period. Simon Elms was the Managing Director in the same studio in the same period and they have worked together on some games for Gizmondo.
Source: http://www.mobygames.com/game/richard-burns-rally
From here to go that Erin was responsible for the 200 million dollars that disappeared is a big stretch.
I feel like this is another "Jack Thompson calls out Rhode Island's video game law" moment where something is so blisteringly misguided and wrong that not even a discredited mess of a critic is willing to let it stand.

> DS attacking ED would probably improve their traffic numbers
The ED forums have over double the traffic of the SC forums; I assume they're quite happy with the traffic as it is.
I'm looking at the SC forums Off Topic page now, and can't find the ED thread. Off Topic itself isn't even listed in the main forums root as far as I can see - I used Google to locate it. The whole Off Topic section looks very much dead.
Edit: nevermind, I was being blind by not logging in!
I see it was started Dec 2015, so is probably the most recent iteration, and has had 43600 replies (145/day) & 59720 views (200/day) since. You are correct that it is much less toxic, although much less active too: since its June 2016 creation, the ED forums SC thread has had 22k replies (180/day) and 1m+ views (8k/day).
On a stats-related note, the ED forums receive over double the traffic of the SC forums.
He may be referring to this:
https://www.amazon.com/Star-Marine-Fighter-Queen-saga-ebook/dp/B00RKUAOOK
It would be interesting to see if this is something that could be litigated. Derek would have a field day if so.
As for:
> though it was claimed to already be in the PU.
This is a rather disingenuous lie that Derek keeps peddling. Chris Roberts said they had deprioritised Star Marine because the FPS component is in the PTU already. FPS != Star Marine.
I will have to look up a site to purchase Freelancer. I played it back in the day and it wouldn't be that bad to go back and play it again.
I was gifted a copy of the DLC for Universal Combat. I have already tried it but am holding off on making a video until I have properly learned my new editing software and have some more footage to compare between the two for the supposed graphics upgrade.
I refuse to play BC3000AD. Mostly because it's going to just end up being a older, crappier version of Universal Combat. Nope. Not doing that. Even I have limits.
I plan to revisit LoD but will have to re-purchase the game to do so. Not really inclined to do that at this moment since I still have more of Universal Combat to do. I also never really intended to be that guy that takes punishment playing shit games, but hey...it's been fun. I just hope people appreciate my other videos I want to do as well!
Wifes surgery should go fine. Thanks for the boost of confidence!
I do appreciate any feedback on my videos and any suggestion for games to play in the future. I will look into getting a copy of Freelancer as well as LoD: Tactics after I finish the next video for UC:Lyrius whatever.
EDIT: http://www.amazon.com/Freelancer-PC/dp/B000085AHJ
That wasn't too hard. I will get around to that.
