i've tried a lot of the apps available in the app store and keep coming back to Apollo. really smooth scrolling, customizable gestures, full markdown editor, native UI design... it's a beautiful app, IMO. there is a small IAP in order to be able to post, but otherwise it's free and awesome.
Read the article dude,
>Free services these days are rightfully regarded with a bit of suspicion. After all, Google and Facebook, which are “free,” are actually charging you by compromising your privacy to advertisers. But ProtonVPN is different. We are the only free VPN with no bandwidth limits, data caps, or privacy invading ads. We do not install malware on your device or sell your data to third parties (we have a strict no-logs policy). Instead our free VPN service is supported by paid plans, which come with advanced security features and higher speeds.
Furthermore, it got audited by Mozilla, and they are the same devs behind ProtonMail — they’re more than reliable.
Yeah.. You definitely don't want to be using a free VPN on any device really. If you want access to multiple geos, real privacy, no logging, etc. I suggest you check out the trial.
Cloudflare's app does not protect all of your traffic - it only intercepts DNS queries and then sends them (encrypted) to their own DNS servers (i.e.: 1.1.1.1). This would be like comparing apples to oranges. ProtonVPN encrypts all traffic (protecting it from wireless snoopers, ISP, mobile network provider), while Cloudflare only encrypts DNS queries and sends everything else (HTTP, SNI requests, etc.) in the clear.
First, when looking for a VPN never go with a free option. Nowadays in the tech world, if it’s free you’re the product - kind of defeats the purpose of a VPN.
Second, Private Internet Access is my personal choice. I just signed up for 2 years for $65, a great deal in my opinion. PIA just proved themselves again recently in a case in the US, so they’ve still got my vote.
If you go over to r/privacy or r/vpn, there are some good guides to check out and folks to ask as well. That being said those communities, while incredibly thorough, tend to be a bit pessimistic when it comes to the average person looking for a service to get the job done.
Hope this helps!
> I wish apple would add a “legacy contacts” feature for situations like this.
They probably seen many people asking for this kind of thing, so this is coming in iOS15
> Digital Legacy program
> The Digital Legacy program allows you to designate people as Legacy Contacts so they can access your account and personal information in the event of your death.
I use 1Blocker X and with their recent update, 1Blocker supports blocking ads on YouTube (if you're playing a video in Safari). The premium version also has a Firewall feature that blocks ads and trackers system-wide. But at least on my 4-year-old 8 Plus, it drains a lot of battery.
Some other options that you may want to consider:
Everyone here is talking about turning off your location in the settings app, but you should also use a VPN. Social networks will figure out your location based off your IP address as well as any location data you send them.
There are a number out there which are fine, but free ones typically make their money by reselling data about you.
I use Mullvad for work and they seem to be good at a reasonable cost.
Also, make sure you’re removing metadata from your images. There are apps for that, but you can also use the shortcuts app.
Because they’re not at all meant for it. And this is almost down to 40 bucks and does the job way better.

I wouldn't look into it too much, that's normally the app ID for an app. Much like how on Android the ID for Hangouts is com.google.android.talk.
Edit:
Here's the documentation in Apple's developer library. What you saw was probably a fluke. Happens every once in a while.
AdGuard DNS. No need for app, system wide. It doesn't block internal ads, though (YouTube ads inside app, Reddit ads inside app, Facebook ads). It does block all other ads (like in-game ads, 3rd party ad syndication) system wide.
I’ve begun testing the app and it seems pretty solid so far. Decent connection and doesn’t disconnect often.
Having said that, ProtonVPN developers are very reliable. The general consensus in r/privacy on Cloudflare is to avoid their services whenever possible. There’s multiple posts about it.
Apple's Move to iOS app for Android worked perfectly for me. It moved my text and phone call histories, as well as contacts, photos, etc.
However, AFAIK, it needs to be done during the initial setup of your iPhone. You can't use it to copy your phone/text histories after the iPhone is setup.

I use ProtonVPN vis OpenDNS to bypass work’s blocking of social apps like Messenger.
But using it that way, I could add my ad blocker’s proxy address and get ads blocked device-wide as well. I wonder if I’ll be able to use that with their dedicated app. I’m all for simplicity.
iOS has had the ability to recognize common tracking numbers for a long time.
I think the only recent change (as of iOS 9.0) was that the system now parses Notes.app for tracking numbers for flights and shipments, as opposed to limiting that functionality to Mail and Safari.
Their help page says:
> Dark Sky is only available in the US, UK and Ireland right now, as we need radar data in each region to provide the next hour forecasts that power the core features of our mobile apps
It's a shame because it's a really nice app and website
You can copy the first url in this list
https://github.com/AdAway/AdAway/wiki/hostssources
That is this one
And the other ones if you liked
And copy it in « import dns rules » in AdBlock.
That’s what i did, work pretty well for me.
Adaway is a good AdBlocker I used when I was on Android.
It’s free while in beta, but TunnelBear will require a fee after launch. I will happily pay for it though once my LastPass sub is up, because I appreciate TunnelBear’s level of transparency. My only concern for them going forward is their merger with McAfee.
I've tried BTGuard, VPN Unlimited, and Private Internet Access (PIA). My recommendation is PIA due to speed, privacy, and cost. Found a good deal on lifetime subscription a couple months ago. No noticeable difference between the speed on this service vs. my ISP speed (definitely not true for the other services I tried).
Right now there's no way to downgrade, at least until Apple releases 14.8.1. They will keep releasing security updates for iOS 14 and whenever there are signed versions you can downgrade.
> Software Updates
> iOS may now offer a choice between two software update versions in the Settings app. You can update to the latest version of iOS 15 as soon as it’s released, for the latest features and most complete set of security updates. Or continue on iOS 14 and still get important security updates.
AdGuard has an iOS shortcut to block YouTube ads. This eliminates the waiting period on videos. It needs to be run every time you go to YouTube in Safari though.
https://adguard.com/en/blog/how-to-add-a-shortcut-to-block-youtube-ads/amp.html
I agree with you that there's a huge gap in the mobile world for this type of panorama stitcher, especially as the built-in cameras become ever higher resolution.
I've started using Hugin (http://hugin.sourceforge.net) on the desktop to manually stitch together photos from my standalone camera, but I know that's not for everyone.
Bitwarden is probably the one that I would choose. Open Source, free, cross platform and as far as I know the only one whose source code has passed a full 3rd party security audit.
Not really a surprise since all the rest of their applications offer subscription based premium features, tho I feel this app isn’t worth more than a $2.99 one time AppStore fee. The AdGuard Pro version won’t be getting any additional updates but it’s stable enough to buy for a one fee of $1.99 with added system wide adblocking. if you really want to purchase their full featured products with additional desktop support grab an AdGuard Premium license on Stacksocial and save some cash.
But what I really recommend people do is check out DNSCloak which has basically all the AdGuard Pro features but for free, altho there will probably be a learning curve for a novice user to really grasp all the features… there’s also Disconnect Pro SmartVPN that offers a free portion system wide ad/tracking type of firewall with a simplified UI and the option to encrypt DNS.
If you can, hold off. There'll be new iPhones announced in September, and the 2nd gen of a device (IE. The new iPhone X style) is always a vast improvement, and there'll be a couple of screen sizes to pick from.
When you do move, Move to iOS will be your best friend.
Do NOT install this. It's not an iOS emulator, but a fake that's full of adware and other shit.
See download.com reviews for details.
There's AdGuard Home but I haven't tried it.
If you're familiar with Docker, you can install that on Windows and setup a Pi-hole container there.
In may case, I have it set on a $10 Raspberry Pi Zero W.
One thing you will notice about iOS apps is that most of the really good ones cost money. There aren't that many free apps that are iOS exclusive. Maybe have a look at the charts?
If you want to play around with some of the UI elements, you can check out here.
The new Z-axis rendering rendering is pretty cool where you can specify the height of various UI elements and it will automatically render shadows in real-time. Apparently Google may port this to iOS for their own apps.
Apollo uses some of the Google analytics service to get automatic crash reports and also see which features within Apollo are used most frequently so that the developer knows what he needs to prioritize. So Christian himself is not making any extra money from tracking you, but Google may still be using the data coming from their services.
Here’s Apollo’s privacy policy (short read)
Here’s Google Firebase’s privacy policy
Edit: Also while Slide itself has no trackers, Reddit may have trackers built into their API that cannot be avoided even if you’re using 3rd party apps like Slide or Apollo.
wow, this took a hell of a lot longer to find than I thought it would, but here it is! It's called cleanup, and it's on the bigboss repo. Here's a direct link if you're on your phone now

Please note, if the version you have was never updated to work as a 64-bit app, it will never work on an iPhone 8 Plus. I don't know Mercury, so no idea if it was updated prior to EOL. Best of luck!

In the "Settings" section: "Set a default web browser and email app that launch when you click a link or want to compose a new mail message."
Just the browser and mail, though. Well, better than no options at all.
As Siri has radio does that mean I won't need a third party radio app anymore, I'm not sure weather Siri radio refers to Apple Music radio or true local radio stations. Also can I get a woot for the files app supporting local storage at last
At least make an effort...
"No need to give apps access all the time. Android Marshmallow lets you define what you want to share and when. Turn permissions off at any time, too."

It doesn't always work, but it's ad free, and you can even choose audio-only mode :)
Here's what I'm running:
Brave Browser: Open source, privacy focused and forked from Chromium. They're working on mobile syncing with the desktop verisons. It's still a bit buggy but I've really been trying to nail down my privacy.
Pocket Casts: One of the better iOS podcast apps and supports chromecast devices.
Apollo: Reddit App. One I spend too much time on.
Opener: I'd consider this a power user's must have. It's a utility app that lives on the share sheet, put a link in and it can open it in the correct app. Like opening spotify playlist links in spotify or moving links from one browser to the other.
Lifesum: Another fitness app but I hate MyFitnessPal and this seems cleaner.
IFTTT/Stringify: Home Automation. Stringify allows for multiple IF conditions.
Libby: Take out ebooks and audio books from my library.
A Soft Murmur: Used for white noise. I'd like to find a better one.
DataMan: Monitors my data usage automatically and can give me warnings when I come too close. Honestly Apple should have built this functionality into iOS a long time ago.
Scanner Pro: Scans documents
Tailor: Stitches Messages screen shots together kinda okay
Nord VPN: Privacy focused VPN service. But VPN seems broken in iOS 12 still...
Some diabetes apps if anyone is curious I can tell you.
Chrome Remote Desktop: Allows me to remote into my home server easily.
Workflow: Automation stuff but I haven't touched it in a long time. The team got bought by Apple and their work is being put into the new shortcuts app.
Other boring apps like Steam for the 2factor authentication. 1Password, bank apps, etc.
NordVPN! Fast, reliable, works like a charm!

oh, I forgot. Blocks ads and malware, has killswitch for individual apps, P2P support, Onion over VPN and custom DNS servers.
oh, and it $100 for 3 years. :-)
This is what I've been looking for. Stopped using VPN most of the time on my phone because it was constantly dropping. (ExpressVPN, NordVPN).
Edit: For anyone curious, ProtonVPN also disconnects pretty much every time my phone locks. Version 1.1.1.(64) I'm not super tech-savvy so maybe this is just how VPN on phones works?
NordVPN is great because it allows for the connect on demand setting which if I understand correctly, not all VPN software provides.
Please don’t use free VPNs. You get what you pay for, or don’t.
It sounds like these files are potentially very large, so I'm not sure how well they will work on a smartphone.
Microsoft has powerpoint available for both Android & iOS.
Android https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.microsoft.office.powerpoint
iOS https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/microsoft-powerpoint/id586449534?mt=8
Sure thing. It’s a simple Raspberry Pi which has a special application called “Pi-hole” installed which acts as a DNS server. After installing it on the raspberry pi, configuring it is really simple, just point your Wireless Router at this Raspberry Pi’s IP address (which is running this DNS server — Pi-hole) so that it blocks all DNS addresses of all the ads in your entire wireless network. Here are some links explaining more into detail
I use Telegram. It’s pretty great! More features than iMessage, more customizable than iMessage, and it works everywhere—including first class apps for Windows, Linux, and macOS.
There is no system wide ad blocker for iOS.
There are Vpn clients, but then you share all your internet history with the (public) VPN server which is even worse privacy wise...
An alternative is installing your own Vpn server and running something like https://pi-hole.net/
If you're jailbroken, there is a tweak that allows you to use a PS3 or PS4 controller as a MFI controller. I've heard that the PS4 controller has more issues than the PS3 controller, although the initial setup is more involved for the latter than the former. This solution will cost you ~50% less than a 'legit' MFI controller, is better quality, and can also be used with your Mac for something like OpenEmu.

Now seriously: In the Continuity page they say:
> Start browsing on your iPad and continue from the same link on your iPhone.
So it should be possible. Anyway, I've always had sketchy performance with Continuity/Handoff, even between Mac and iPhone.
It's not a GUI if that's what you're looking for, but it is so damn powerful. Checkout TestDisk http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk
It's open source, very good step-by-step documentation, and is executable on several platforms. It works on most of the popular file formats (I'm not sure about APFS though).
The by far best solution for this is https://snapdrop.net. Just open the website on both devices, then you can instantly share any file and text input. I use it all the time between Linux and the iPhone.
I saw someone else posting he has/had issues as well with updates. Maybe you could offload instead of uninstalling? You can go to Settings -> General -> Storage and select the app you want to offload from the menu. You can refer to this link if you have any trouble. Good luck!
Personally I don't think we would need to be greeted by our phone every time of the day that we use it. It would be too much in the way for the user to get things done. In the morning it's nice after waking up. Though, what I'd like to see is a top 3 of apps that have received notifications during bed time. Show these with icons and the amount notification. Loui Mantia made a mockup of this in 2015: Lock Screen by Louie Mantia
I quickly threw something together. OP, use the WeatherUnderground, it has an action for rises above/drops below, then use the notification action.

Google 'confetti iPhone wallpaper' search directed me here [it's at the bottom] http://osxdaily.com/2013/09/11/33-new-wallpapers-from-ios-7-for-iphone-ipod-touch/
Enjoy! These are every iOS wallpapers ever obtained. (Including iPhone X’s live and stills)
that's actually really impressive! but on the other hand, not so much. she can basicly skip tracks and launch apps. Even a simple "other" task as "set alarm for 7:00 AM" does not work.
Quick answer from OSXdaily.com :
"Anything above -80 is good, and would be considered full bars Anything below -110 is bad, and would be considered few bars"
"For example, a signal number of -105 is considerably worse than a signal of -70. You’ll generally find that anything approaching -105 or lower is fairly bad reception, while anything above -80 is usually good..."

I've run into this too.
The mess they made of Podcasts is legendary. I especially like the bug that suddenly and inexplicably uses gigabytes of cellular data to download the same podcast episode over and over, even when connected to a WiFi network.
Submit a bug report/feedback to Apple.
They'll only prioritise it if they get enough people complaining.
The traditional method of doing this is how its done on android. Content is checked by essentially a hack script in the browser that is resource intensive because it needs to iterate the content. The new safari method is just to block it in the browser itself using a block list and is extremely fast --as if there was nothing there at all. This is why ad block companies are upset by all of this. There is no user data that can be reported back.
I would suggest the iMazing app. I haven’t used it in a while, but as far as I’m aware, it can use local backups and extract data from them. However, I assume you have to activate iCloud somehow so you later can import the bookmarks into a computer. Importing bookmarks into iOS Safari as html is not supported last time I checked.
Because of the Baseband.
You can install iOS 4.1, but you end up with the 6.1.6 baseband. The phone should work fine with that, but iTunes will kinda freak out if the restore process doesn't go 100%.
You need something like redsn0w to kick the device out of recovery after installation of iOS 4.1. I think that is how I got the 4.1 install to finish. I haven't done it in a while.
You don't have to jailbreak, it can be a stock 4.1 install. But you still need the tool.
Well, sounds like hasta la vista.
But I've found Dark Sky better anyway...didn't even notice Storm was clearing, as it were, since Dark Sky is more accurate anyway. All you need and not what you don't. Switch. https://darksky.net/app
I'm not at all sure if this still works, but it looks like all of your SMS data gets stored in a sqlite3 database somewhere deep in the phone's file system. see here
Try getting in touch with Apple's iCloud Support team. There may be a possibility they can restore the contacts to the state they were in when both contact lists were merged together, then you can work on getting them on separate Apple IDs for iCloud and cleaning up the contact lists afterwards.

It isn't a quite as good solution, but, if you have a jailbroken device (not illegal but voids your warranty, see /r/jailbreak), you might be able to do this: http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile/add-any-new-search-engine-to-safari-on-your-jailbroken-iphone/
NextDNS will give you system wide ad blocking on iOS. The service also works on your router covering all your devices, so between them you can use it home and away. It has the features of a pi-hole but doesn’t need any setup up (or a pi).
Sure. It's simple
Default DNS Use these servers to block ads, tracking and phishing 176.103.130.130 176.103.130.131
That's it. You don't need any other app. This will provide system wide blocking on your wifi
optionally if you want to extend it to LTE, install an app called DNS override and put the above DNS addresses in the app which will force using these addresses on mobile data as well
I just prefer the interface, it gets rid of ads, now some things like polls aren't available but I've always used it since I hate twitter's app, the "while you were away" and ad nonsense. Their page lists things about it https://tapbots.com/tweetbot/ it does cost a little money.
I would recommend Documents or GoodReader + smth like iMazing for file management, should give you full freedom for local file management including import/export to computer.
Sorry but not possible, you need to wipe the phone before downgrading to 11.4.1. The only option I've found so far except iCloud sync is editing the Info.plist file of a local iOS 12 backup and restoring it, but this way is not perfect and some data is still lost and must be re-synced from iCloud. Here's the >article< about it from iMazing guys.
My SO and I do this with google calendar. I have 3 calendars synced on my phone:
Work Exchange Calendar
Personal Google Calendar
Shared Google Calendar
I use an app on my iphone/ipad called Calendars 5 just because I like how it looks/works. Not necessary though.
If I understood correctly, you want a personal domain email to function as closely to iCloud mail as possible right? Check out fastmail.com. I have had great success with this but just ended up doing O365 after a couple years. Just couldn’t beat the price and features for $60 a year.
Spark is the best email client I have ever tried on iOS and OSX. https://sparkmailapp.com/
It auto creates the 'notifications' and 'newsletter' folders for you and is smart about filtering those emails.
All reputable VPN services will work fine on IPhone and MacBook.
ProtonVPN is one of the few VPNs you can use with Shortcuts, so you can set your phone up to say "Hey Siri make me a ninja" to connect to VPN or something. But it is more expensive and has fewer available locations than stuff like NordVPN and ExpressVPN.
Because none of that is enforceable. Even if the phone made you give a blood sample to turn it off, all a thief would have to do is drop it into a faraday cage bag for a day or two until the battery died.
I’d advice you to stay away from free vpn apps. Adguard is a local vpn app, it does not connect to any server, hence your data is private only to you. Other VPN apps use servers on the internet, your data might be seen by other parties.
One free VPN app i can recommend is ProtonVPN. They do care for your privacy.
Youtube ads use the same domain as videos to load their contents, so there is no way to filter out the ads on dns level ads blocking. If you use youtube on safari then yes Adguard can block all the ads. Otherwise, any other that say can block ads in youtube app for iOS is very likely to be scam.
For 3rd party apps...
I think it was released in November 2018. I looked at the Google devices but there is no Apple Music support yet. I was pleasantly surprised to learn the Amazon devices supported it myself.
Edit: Link
Here you go: https://www.amazon.com/Apple-Inc-Music/dp/B07LCQ5JT7/ref=nodl_
I try to leave it on all the time, but am not always successful in doing so. Many sites are blocking VPN ranges these days so it makes using it 100% of the time a small problem. For whatever reason I have more issues running my VPN (Private Internet Access) on my iOS devices than I do on my Mac OS or Windows devices. I'm in the process of evaluating ProtonVPN as I'm already using Protonmail and like that service.
Yeah and gives you encrypted calls and messages without having to buy premium. They also don’t hold the encryption keys so if the government comes knocking they would only have an IP to give them unless you use a VPN. ExpressVPN if you need one!
There's that saying 'if you're not paying, you're the product'. If you're not lying for a VPN, you can't really be certain it's all that safe. It costs money to run a VPN service, so if they have no/limited forms of income, they could either be collecting all of your data to sell or, even worse, using your connection as an exit node. For example, somebody in the U.K. wants to use a VPN to watch US stuff? They could use your connection. They could use it for anything.
The three I recommend are NordVPN, ExpressVPN and Private Internet Access. I use PIA myself and it's well worth the $36 a year.
You won't find one. When it comes to VPNs, 'safe' and 'free' don't match. What you should look for is the ones that offer limited monthly data like TunnelBear (500 mb monthly). They don't collect data as far as I know.
Wow, somehow I didn't see that at the bottom. Now that I know it's called "System" I'm able to find a lot more info about it. According to this, the size can be reduced by just connecting the phone to iTunes for a while. Thanks mucho!
Thanks for the link.
DEP changes seem interesting. My only wish is the ability to prevent OS updates, but that is never going to happen.
http://www.zdnet.com/article/heres-whats-new-for-enterprises-in-ios-9/
Tl;dr new restriction options, ability to convert unmanaged apps to managed apps in the background without reinstalling (ie no data loss), VPP changes, DEP expansion, a new enrollment process that is completely touch-screen free, and a couple other details.
I saw someone else posting he has/had issues as well with updates. Maybe you could offload the problematic apps and reload them from the AppStore so you don't lose any data. You can go to Settings -> General -> Storage and select the app you want to offload from the menu. You can refer to this link if you have any trouble. Good luck!
I followed instructions like these to accomplish that. if you want to add/remove pictures like me, you might have to experiment with various settings and types, so do that before you delete the original folder.
Hmm. I haven’t messed around with restoring iPhones in DFU mode since AT&T had exclusive rights to the iPhone. That being said, you may not have to put the device in DFU mode to complete the downgrade.
Download GIMP and play around with it. You'll easily achieve the desired result and will have learned a new skill in the meantime. What you want to do (as someone else mentioned) is: 1. Import a screenshot of your home, and find a way to blur it. There are different kinds of blur, pick the one you like. 2. Search online for an apple logo with transparent background, import it as a new layer, center it and voilà!
Maybe this? Haven't done it myself so can't guarantee anything. Also if you live near an Apple Store, they'll let you return the cables after youve used em.
iOS coding pretty much has to be done on a macbook - Xcode is only deployed via the Appstore on OS X - their arn't really any resources out there specific to app development for youngsters. With him being very math orientated you could get him started on python (if this is the first language he has ever tried but note it has very little to do with app or OS X development its just a good starting place to learn coding in general) - http://www.codecademy.com/learn offers a a very short free easy to learn course based in a web browser that would work on any computer (it will only take a few hours to do and saves your progress so you dont have to do it all in one go!)
Well it works if you take seriously the opening phrase: migrate to telegram. This means telling your contacts to start using telegram instead of whatsapp, because whatsapp doesnt let you import chats from other app so once you make the move, you wouldn't be able to go back to telegram easily. Although if you only need like a backup I guess you can use this method anyway
I've made a recipe that does the same as the original here, but with a push notification and not a text message. I hope this will help you.
https://ifttt.com/recipes/388033-get-notified-via-push-of-newly-free-ios-apps-shared-on-r-apphookup
You'd likely have to /r/jailbreak the iPad, but then you could install something like Veency. You probably won't be able to jailbreak if you're upgraded past iOS 8.1 or so, though (at least until/unless a new jailbreak tool/method is released).
Public beta has been available for two days now, I have it installed and it’s actually a very big update, so many changes. Widgets, app organization, picture-in-picture (PIP), non-full screen calls, if calls go full screen such as if your phone is locked you can still unlock your phone and switch tasks to ignore the call. iOS 14 is really starting to take a lot of cues from Android with the additional privacy and performance boosts.
For those wanting to see all the new changes check out the iOS 14 preview page:

It’s a commonly used DNS resolver so I think it’s fine, for example Firefox uses Cloudflare for DNS-over-HTTPS so its DNS queries are private from your ISP. also Cloudflare DNS has been audited although some more privacy minded individuals argue that the DNS traffic are being centralize by a US company similar to Google DNS but on a much smaller scale, but I really wouldn’t worry about that tho since they’re not the advertising giant Google is.
