Telegram has no upper limit on file sizes when sharing media. And I think there's an option to send uncompressed files too...although I haven't tested this out and don't have my phone on me at the moment.
Your first issue with MMS not working is a fairly common issue. You can search here or the republic forums for lots of threads about fixing it. Here's one I found that might help
Your second issue isn't a problem specific to Republic. That's just how SMS/MMS work with any provider (Verizon, Sprint, anyone). Text messages can't go through until they can reach your phone, so your phone will have no idea when it was actually sent.
I should mention that both these issues can be solved if you switch from SMS/MMS to a data messaging service like Hangouts or Telegram. The only issue being you need to get everyone you talk to to use these apps as well.

The app creates 3 folders in the Photos App: Telegram, Telegram Images, & Telegram Documents.
Despite not having the setting turned on, the app automatically (and arbitrarily) saves images/videos/stickers to the device. Seems to grab images/videos you click/view within the app. I've not been able to figure out how to stop it other than denying storage access.
One more example - just check Telegram android app (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.telegram.messenger). It's user interface is working absolutely smooth. And it's user interface is built in code by 90%!

Telegram is a messaging app similar to WhatsApp or Hangout, AFAIK. I think the RDDs on the sub have moved to Telegram, but you should contact the mods for more info, since I don't use or know how to use that app.

Personally I'm not big into trusting a closed-source program for private communications but for something like this I wouldn't mind, actually.

Yes obviously download the app called Telegram for Android (even available on Apple). Telegram is a messaging app which consists of public as well as private channels. Public channels are searchable by all due to which any movie sent there can be downloaded by anyone. The movies sent there are hosted on Telegrams servers.

Just one thing : Google is slowly killing Hangout, so it wouldn't be sure to use it as a long term solution. Maybe Telegram or Signal that can manage SMS AND Internet messages (if your contact has Signal installed, it will use data/WiFi, if not, an SMS) would be better. Both are really easy to use, you only need a phone number to create an account, the app sends a SMS with a digit code and voilà, your app is ready to use. Even my parents can install it (and that's a REALLY BIG deal ;) )
I personally avoid WhatsApp and Discord for privacy issue, but that's only personnal choice ;)

A great way to make use of a RPI in a practical project and learn the basics. You can fine tune the setup and perhaps add extras. I've added TelegramTelegram notification to my setup so I get short video clips to my phone when motion is detected. Moves the project to the next level and you learn simply scrips.

For messaging you could also use an app with self-destructing messages like Telegram, but some parents have caught onto those too and will be suspicious.
These types of tools are frequently the subject of great abuse and misuse by companies and the governments and military forces which pay them handsomly to develop them. There's something disturbing about the underlying concept that AI/ML software is monitoring anyone's chats in any way and attempting to do any sort of metaanalysis for conclusion based result reporting.
While this tool is being marketed as being focused today on a positive effort, it can simply be (and more than likely has already been regardless of any corporate public statements otherwise) retargeted for illegal or clandestine activities - government citizenry monitoring, illegal dragnets, military purposes, law enforcement data collection for prosecution (this one being a good thing, but what if yiu were specifically targeted for an ulterior motive), activist monitoring, journalist monitoring (and assassination...), etc.
Such software should be heavily regulated and restricted to only specific purposes, with intense security controls around it as well as intense oversight by third party independent auditors assigned by a working group which is privacy and safety focused.
Since that's not going to happen, look to as much software which is otherwise designed in your favor. Telegram for your private discussions with your friends and Keybase for your work are two nice applications.

I've already uninstalled Facebook and Telegram. Looking at the app permissions, especially for Telegram, I'd be curious how much could be monitored with camera, mic, sms, storage and the other privileges it requests on Android. I don't suspect it can do screen-scrape, but that would depend on the Android sand boxing capabilities. I do use beta-wallet.trezor.io on my phone, so leaking all my xpubs would be concerning to me.

I suggest creating a group of some kind. While reddit nofap community is really helpful, a small personal accountability group is something with its own merits.
I recommend Telegram since you can maintain your privacy to a good extent. I'm up for any platform since I'm just starting and it would do me a ton of good to be part of a group.
It's a messenger app. It even has addresses and works with maps so you can get a quicker route to one of the things.

Telegram is excellent. It has useful bots to get things done and secret chats that expire. Secret chats are end-to-end encrypted, and messages in secret chats cannot be forwarded and can self-destruct. Most importantly, when you delete messages from your side of the conversation, the app on the other side will be ordered to do the same.
Bonus: Read this before you trust Signal and other popular apps that promise to safeguard your privacy and security. You won't look at those apps with the same perspective again.
Finally, exercise caution and question everything before sharing intimate data on the Internet (even on apps and services like Telegram).

By default, the Telegram servers have access to the plain-text of all the messages that you send. Pavel Durov has also said that Telegram has no interest in implementing end-to-end encryption by default: "This is exactly why cloud chats are the default: on average, our users prefer seamless cloud sync."
Some of Telegram's private messages (not the default one-to-one chats, you have to look for an optional mode that says "secret chat") use end-to-end encryption, but they use an encryption protocol that they invented themselves that doesn't follow best-practices. Encryption experts have been critical of Telegram's encryption protocol since it was released. So your "secret chat" messages might not be so private, either.
If Telegram's developers still don't want to switch to a more secure protocol and turn end-to-end encryption on by default, then the single biggest thing that they could do in order to increase the security and privacy of all of their users would be to make user-defined passwords mandatory. Up until 8 weeks ago, Telegram's Android client repository was over three months behind what was being distributed through the Google Play store. It is currently about 8 weeks behind. The iOS client repository is currently over nine months behind what is being distributed through the Apple Store. Can Telegram's client applications still be considered open source?
Their home-brewed encryption, along with numerous other security oversights, have led to there being a de facto consensus among many infosec professionals that Telegram is currently nothing more than snake oil when it comes to privacy and security, and that it should be avoided until its developers implement some major changes.

I haven't used Skype since 2012. I've been using Hangouts for video chats. There are way more options for IM and video chatting than iMessage and Skype now. Check out Telegram, Tango (does video chats), Hangouts (basically the messaging app comparable to the Messaging app on iOS; does both IM and SMS/MMS, including video chats). I prefer Telegram for simple IMing while using Hangouts for calls. Just because iMessage is default doesn't mean it's the best. Your experience with Android in regards to messaging is going to be dependent on one thing, and that's getting the other iPhone users to use a different IM client than iMessage (unless you want to use MMS for your messaging, which isn't all that great). I would talk with everyone that you send iMessages to and let them know you're wanting to give Android a trial run, and in order to stay in contact, they'll need to try a different instant messaging client than Apple's single-platform iMessage. All of the aforementioned apps are cross-platform and even have web interfaces so you can chat from any computer/phone (way better than being forced into staying with iMessage because it's default).

It depends on where you buy the phone. If you purchase an Android device from a carrier (not the best idea), you'll be dealing with the carrier when it comes to the warranty and fixes of hardware issues. If you purchase the same device from the manufacturer online, you'll be dealing directly with the manufacturer (much preferable, since they built the device, they can handle a lot more when it comes to fixing issues and getting you a replacement).

Since the Android app for Apple Music is still a beta (note that the app isn't even on version 1 yet; 0.9.6), it does not have the ability to be used with Google Now. You would need to switch to Google Play Music or Spotify, and I recommend Google Play Music, as they have a simple solution to upload everything from your iTunes onto their service. As for the functionality of Google Now, it has a little more functionality than Siri, so you can do a little bit more than you would with an iPhone.

I play a lot of Chat Wars on the mobile which works on Telegram. It's a game about 7 castles battling each other every 8 hours, 2 pre classes and after, 6 different classes to chose from. Has it's own eco system, guilds, markets, shops, and other pretty interesting features for a text based MMO RPG game.

Also started with the mobile game Stormfall: Saga of Survival which is a neat game, good grafics, easy to understand and an easy UI. Which is nice is that there isn't a "Energy" restriction and you can play for hours without getting bored.

Rules:
- Masks are mandatory for everyone! Masks must be worn properly (nose and mouth covered completely) the entire time from leaving your car until you return back to it.
- Once you arrive, if you have not already obtained a number, please see the employee outside to receive a ticket number.
- Once you have arrived in the parking lot, please wait in your car until your number is called.
- When your number is called, come to the marked spot outside of the shop and wait until you are called inside.
- When you enter, get hand sanitizer and be ready to meet JDF!
- Everyone must keep 6ft social distancing during the meeting. If taking a photo, you must be on the marked spot to maintain social distancing. No physical contact. No hugs, handshakes, or fist bumps.
- Once the meeting is over, staff will direct you to exit.
- Due to COVID-19 capacity restrictions, we kindly ask that you refrain from “hanging out” inside or outside as others wait for their assigned meeting.
- EVERYONE must follow the rules. Anyone not adhering to the rules will be asked to leave and we reserve the right to refuse service

There are several thousand channels available as of right now (June 7 2020) The channel selection is awesome! Over all the service is great with these guys! I would recommend them!
EPG Completion is really good I would say 98% complete on the USA, Canada channels. Completion is great!
They accept payment from Paypal and can be billed monthly and have it do automatic withdraws each month to make things easy or you can cancel that in the members area.
They do have a no refund policy which is the only thing I don't like and I think they need to back off that a bit.

It has the same features as whatsapp and more, looks nice, has good customisation and most importantly, it's ~~not owned by FaceBook~~ semi-open source.
It also has a standalone desktop client that doesn't need to communicate with your phone.

I can't argue with signal having better encryption necessarily but Telegram does seem to have changed the encryption to being turned on by default since. The Gizmodo article was published back in late June 2016 and as I can't find any settings ~~to turn it on or off~~ for encryption whatsoever I can only assume that it is now turned on by default and can't be disabled. And as far as ease of converting friends and family Telegram should be easier to try and make people to use it due to its large amount of features.

This is the contender to Kakao. Some people have switched to it. It has no advertising or "featured commercial brand friends". It shows when the other end is typing, let's you add bots, make your own sticker packs, self-destructing messages/images, etc. It is usable through a browser without any software to install, has native clients even for Windows phone and Linux, is open source and also available on F-Droid.
All I use is Google Apps :
- Google Calendar for the time tables and schedules
- Keep for quick notes
- Google Docs/Sheets/Slides for everything. I like everything being on web!
- Drive for saving digital notes that I gather thoughout the classes.
- Our class used to have a Telegram group to chat and discuss on. Now we use Slack! Much better. Such Wow!
- Pushbullet to send links to people, or send between devices. I use Macbook Pro for classes and OnePlus 3.
- I always have Wikipedia app on my phone, and Attopedia for my Android Wear

In short, I've never had a problem with it. But definitely don't switch to FBM, switch to Telegram.

It's an instant messenger designed for mobile phones (like Whatsapp, Kik, etc..) but with a twist: the client is opensource, the security is better than average, and you can start sessions from a Windows PC, from Linux shell, or whatever someone has ported the client to instead of only mobile phones like other similar services. Also, unlike other similar services, you don't need to give your mobile phone to anyone: you can talk to people with usernames.

I was highly disappointed in their developer support. For example it took them 6! months to update their app to support the new 4" screen of the iPhone 5 after it's launch. That's 9 months after the beta release. They still don't support multiple devices for one user and when Facebook bought them I just deleted my account for privacy reasons. And yes in my country (Germany) like everyone is using WhatsApp but I'm a huge supporter for Telegram. It's available for all relevant platforms and does have way more useful features.
It's also available for Linux (32bit and 64bit), Windows Phone and on the web.
If you want Snapchat features, just use Telegram's secret chats, it has a message burn feature that is exactly the same, but it's also a really good general messaging software too.
