Afaik, NordVPN does work in Qatar but I don't recommend buying it from some unknown seller, they have mirror sites, rather buy directly. It's also best if you connect to obfuscated servers. Most VPNs have free trials tbh, you can test out which ones works the best for you
Honestly you’re better off with amazon, it’s way cheaper and better. And if you’re looking for a gaming laptop that price then I’d recommend a Lenovo legion y540
VPN services that I can confirm are working (as of today) are:
If you’re having issues access their sites, the easiest thing to do is download Epic Browser and enable the EpicProxy extension.
You wont get into trouble for using VPN. But the thing is, on android/iphone - to make the first sign in to your ExpressVPN account, you'll have to use another proxy (use any free proxy) - because Ooredoo has blocked all ExpressVPN servers, the sign-in request itself cannot be sent to ExpressVPN without a proxy.
Once you're done with the initial sign-in, you're good to go. You can remove the free proxy and just use ExpressVPN. I'm a long time ExpressVPN user - never ever disappointed. Its very useful and a really reliable service.
And Qatari laws have not explicitly forbidden use of VPN - from what I know.
For 1200$ which is a little above you're budget, you can get the newest Helios 300 which has insane value for the price:
https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Predator-i7-10750H-Dual-Channel-PH315-53-72XD/dp/B08842D7JS
Keep in mind though, neither one of those two (Legion and Helios) have warranty here.
Unrelated but thought I'd throw you a recommendation for F.lux
It really helps with eyestrain, especially at night. In case you ever feel like making a comeback to the PC darkside ;)
Tell me which books and I'll try getting it for you in ebook (.epub) format if you're ok with that. If you're curious about how I get ebooks or just want to do it yourself head to duckduckgo.com then enter "tor." This is the website you wanna get to. Download the browser depending on your operating system. Once you're done with that, run that browser and go to this deep web link. Compare the ISBNs of that you get from that deep web link to the ones in Amazon if you want to make sure the ebook that you got is accurate.
Sand dune tour! Despite the fact that the drivers know exactly how to terrify you, it's a lot of fun.
ProtonVPN (Paid tier). And yes, works for sure. I’ve bought crypto on and Coinbase and withdrew to my UK accounts with no issues. The only problem is the local banks have blocked payments in regards to crypto. If you’re using a bank outside of Doha, you won’t have problems
Vpn works in Qatar you just have to install it before you come in the country. Major vpns like NordVPN, expressvpn, surfshark, etc all work here. However if you want to download them while you’re in the country, use turbo vpn. Just download it and then when you open it click the x at the top left to get rid of the free trial thing. It has ads if you just want to use that instead of others but it’s free
I normally use VPN (recently got surfshark) in my phone and also installed it in the Amazon firestick. In the near future a VPN router would be good, the problem is if it ends being "detected" then becomes useless so wasted money.
ExpressVPN works fine in my TV, and they also have the router option but I haven't tried it yet.
Cheers!
It's pretty well developed actually. Once you get the necessary apps, you can get to anywhere using public transportation. The Karwa bus app is REALLY helpful! (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mowasalat.karwabus&hl=en / it's on iOS too)
It's glitchy at times buttt it gets the job done. All the bus routes are shown in the app and even live bus location is shown (the red bus icon moves when you're in the routes page if you watch it for a while)!! It shows the metro bus routes as well.
Don't forget to get a bus card and recharge it though. You can get the card from an LG store at city center or somewhere like that and you can recharge it on Ooredoo self service machines.
For small items it's not so bad. For anything large there can be issues at customs. By large I mean very large so I wouldn't worry too much about any personal items that you might plan on shipping.
Shipping your computer should be fine. Piracy definitely will not be an issue. The stance on software piracy in Qatar seems to be fairly lax, movie and tv piracy even more so.
My company provides us with a VPN so I can't vouch for any personal ones but I hear HideMyAss is quite good. I've also tried using Cocoon for private browsing and it seems ok. Again, don't take my word for these.
More or less impossible. Residency is about all anyone from outside Qatar can hope for. For this you need a sponsor. Presumably the company you are working for will sponsor you for your residency.
I've lived in Doha just a little over 6 months and have had minimal religious discussions with people. Best idea is to avoid the topic with people you're not familiar with I'd say.
I work 6 days a week so the most adventurous thing I do is drinking. I'd say take someone else's advice for this. Having said that, the rugby club on a Friday can be quite an adventure at times.
One mistake I made on my first trip out was presuming I wouldn't be able to buy any decent food or find a good supermarket in Doha so I packed a lot of extra crap I didn't need. Don't waste luggage space on things like this as most stores there will have a lot of western food. Particularly MegaMart in Barwa Village and Spinneys in the Mall.
If you've any other questions feel free to drop me a PM.
Just adding that the taxis are working really well here and are very cheap, here is an helpful app : Link
No need for anyone to accompany you in Qatar; even if you are a teenager. It is safe here; just don't go with strange people.
The Aspire park is right next door to you in walking distance. So is Villagio mall and Hyatt Mall. Just ask anyone you see for walking directions.
There are taxis in front of Villagio mall the times around peak hours if you need a ride to anywhere else. Or use their karwa app to hail a metered taxi.
You need to update the public transport section.
Disregard Uber and niminate the Karwa App. It functions hassle free and is convenient and run locally. All the people I know have enjoyed the service better than uber. The Karwa app only brings in Metered taxis.
Or just list both.
A thorough investigation on how tribalism and Sharia law impacts a society and creates a dependence on migrants. The occupational hierarchy is based on nationality and religion. Migrants are classified as "foreign" or Arab. Gulf citizens enjoy the greatest autonomy and legal protection. The various structures of domination, such as citizenship laws, the kafala system, Sharia law and gender segregation interact together to create a system of domination and control over workers who came to Qatar in search of income and opportunity. The resistance of "single-status" workers living under Islamic and employer domination are revealed in detail.

Hi from Bahrain,
Yeah, You’ll need to use a free VPN (like Windscribe), have it on, sign up and download NordVPN, then once you’re done installing and signing in. Turn the free one off, and start using NordVPN.
The ones I use the most: Yalla = come on/let's go/get on with it Shukran = thank you Sabah Al Khair = Good morning Kifak/kaifa halok = How are you Teshloonak (Qatari) = how are you Akeed = of course InshaAllah = God willing Assalamu Alaikum: Hello/ exact meaning Peace be upon you
Try this app for specific Qatari phrases:

There are many adapters which you can get from amazon/ ebay and if that’s not feasible, best option would be going to local hardware store . This one is amazon’s choice. Hope it helps. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Universal-Adapter-Worldwide-International-European-Black/dp/B0B9JGSGYL/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?crid=30ZRKUX8C0EZN&keywords=travel+adapter&qid=1667959157&sprefix=travel+ada%2Caps%2C78&sr=8-3

Using a Middle East based app called Hookzapp for a while. Works brilliantly both inside and outside Qatar. Free, encrypted with zero ads.

If you're willing to spend a little bit of cash, NordVPN is the go-to. Express is a bit pricier but it does offer more server locations which is nice. Because the effectiveness of the VPN matters on which location you use as a proxy.
Personally I use AdGuard VPN which has Dubai as a server location which really improves speed.
For free VPNs, generally, I don't recommend them for a myriad of reasons. Mostly because they're very shady on how they handle your data (Honestly in this day and age it's just standard TOS, one look at Google's is enough). They bombard you with ads. And sometimes they're incredibly slow.
However, ProtonVPN is a good choice if all you're gonna do with it is call your family back. And if all you're gonna do with the VPN is do that, save your money.
One correction: Qatar has one of the cheapest Uber fares among developed countries. Just compare it with Dubai where the fare is 3 times compared to Doha.
Public transportation is getting better. New bus stations and bus routes are starting every week.
Newly launched Sila App helps to plan trip. link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=sila.sports.com
I experienced this a while ago. Pretty old scam and surprised Ooredoo hasn't sorted it out.
It'd be wise to use the Phone app by Google if on Android, it filters some of these calls and lets you block them as well.
Thanks so much for your detailed answer. Some quick follow-up questions...
Some context:
You can use NordVPN and I guess ExpressVPN both work to watch Disney+, all shows Netflix etc... so the only thing remaining would be amazon which is not going to be available anytime soon I believe you can either order from globally or use some courier such and shopandship, myus etc...
Yes it will. I prefer something with more power and some storage capacity so I ordered this when it was on offer. Very pleased with it

Someone who has a video could use a tool such as the Tor Browser. I'd gladly help with anonymity. Here's the Tor Browser: https://www.torproject.org/download/download-easy.html.en Please don't be shy and approach me :)
This won't totally solve the issue. But I bought an universal power strip. It helps a lot for the different chargers I have (EU, USA, UK)

There are a few other options, besides going to fancy places. Jazz Club, which is actually quite nice, has happy hour (5-8PM). You can get a beer there for QR20.
I read up some more on it, there is definitely some ISP shenanigans going on and not the router's fault as I suspected. If you're getting the promised speed on Speedtest and fast.com appears to be blocked (which shouldn't be the case because it's testing Netflix's streaming capability), then Ooredoo is indeed throttling you. ISPs apparently don't throttle connections to Speedtest which is why you'll always get the maximum speed.
That said, never heard of being throttled on Fiber. Definitely give them a call. Not sure how you'd argue your case because in my experience they always tell you to run a benchmark on Speedtest... which is disingenuous.
Hi Qataaargh,
Thank you for the information. I was suspect on his email address, but then when I did a search and found HBK Contracting Companies LinkedIn, he is the same person updating their site, and posting their job updates?
So I am not sure what to think. We are having a personal contact in Qatar vet him for us.
I will provide an update and if this turns out to be fraudulent, I will make sure there is information shared here.
Thanks again!
☝️ This! Wain Qatar is developed by QMIC, it has National Address feature where you just put the Building number, Street, and Zone -- the one you see on your blue house plate, and it will show you the location on the map. Very useful for delivery personnel.
My dude!
I work every two years in different countries. I know a bit in changing currencies. If you want to make the most of you money. Use Transferwise or Revolut.
I prefer transferwise but they do not convert in QAR. So you will have to use Revolut. Check out their website. But their fees to convert is very low compared to traditional banks. I am sure your Qatar bank will take a lot of the $$ converting it. Basically, you send you USD to your Revolut account. Then you ask Revolut to convert the USD in QAR. And they you send those QAR to you Qatar bank.
If you happy with this. You can use the link below. This is my referral. I think we both have a little bonus.

Do not hesitate to pm me if you have questions.
Hello! I'm a highschool student who has been learning Python in my freetime for the past 4-5 months.
I could help you with the basics. Just shoot me a PM if you want to discuss the limits to which I could and any other details. However I'm definitely not a professional!
The youtube tutorials and books I read were really simple and pretty good for me when I had started. Here they are if you (or anyone) is interested in python:
Anyone know where I can buy Fluke Multimeter Probes?
Aramex doesn't seem very reasonable pricing-wise. I've only been here for less than a year and no one I know has an idea.
Since the spammers use caller ID spoofing, there's only so much Ooredoo can do.
Install Truecaller or Phone by Google if on Android. It's user submission-based so not perfect, but it should warn you about potential spam calls.
Check this one out, same specs, a lot cheaper and it has a ryzen chip in it
not really. this is what im talking about. you need a machine for it which is sold in ACE and Fnac.
https://www.amazon.com/FoodSaver-BPA-Free-Multilayer-Construction-Preservation/dp/B001U05R16
it is mainly used for a cooking method (sous vide)
You would need to buy a Net Duma Router/or a router with preinstalled Duma OS like the net gear nighthawk series. This allows you to apply a geofilter so that your console only pings to the nearest/lowest ping server constantly on any game you play
You can snag this one on Amazon for under a 100 bucks. All you gotta do is get an Ethernet cable and connect it to your main router. Yes they work with Oreedoo. Just search up NetDuma on YouTube to get a feel for it
I suggest using the Messages app over Samsung's version of it. Google's spam filtering is pretty decent and you can block/mute these promotional messages. You should also request to stop receiving promotional messages through the Ooredoo app.
Also also make a habit of not giving your number to any store/shop because they will sell your data like no tomorrow.
Yes, been using it for years, works fine on Apple TV and Amazon Fire TV. As others stated, you’ll need a VPN or a Smart DNS service, I currently use the MediaStreamer service from ExpressVPN, but have used Unlocator in the past which works well also.
Tried this ?

Won't ship to Qatar. Need to use QPost Connected or Aramex Shop & Ship
Text "Unsub all" to 92600. If that doesn't work, install the Google Messages app (you may already have it if you're on a newer/Pixel device) and block the sender (tap and hold SMS). The SMSs will go to the spam folder then auto-deleted after some time, in case you need them for an OTP or whatever.
Feel free to block Ooredoo, Hala, 121, Ooredoo Money or however many other ways this godforsaken carrier spams you with.
I bought this from Amazon and its been great for 3 months now working 24/7 https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00HDVIHIG/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Hi, If you just want to send a postcard, you can try Fizzer. This is a phone app where you load credits. You also upload a picture (or create a collage) with a text and they will print the postcard and mail it anywhere in the world for cheap. This is made in France. I used to send many postcards like that when I was overseas. 1 postcard =1.8 euros (8 riyals), but you can buy bundles and the price per postcard is going down
Here is the link for Android : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=io.fizzer.android
Go to any metro station, get the tickets from ticket vending machine to board the train. If you wanna pay less and travel choose economy class and it will cost you around 2 Riyals per transit or if you wanna travel in business class it will be Costing you around 10 Riyals per transit. For first time to get the metro card they charge you about 10 Riyals. These Metro cards can be recharged and used multiple times, so no need for getting ticket everytime. Also you can recharge your Metro card with the mobile application.
Happy Trails!!
Download the official doha metro application for android from below link to get clarification on routes and timings.
You can get a VPN service for your phone and /or computer to unblock it. I recommend ExpressVPN, it’s the one I use. Never had an issue and it always stays running in the background. I’ve never had a problem making/receiving WhatsApp, Skype, VOIP calls and so on over the years. Also, ExpressVPN isn’t blocked in Qatar, making signing up easy, but any VPN service will do.
I think they may have blocked it a few days ago, after years without an issue 😪. I just noticed myself. I sent Unlocator’s support team a message. Hopefully, they’ll be able to add the IP address manually 🤞🏼. Will be sure respond with an update once I have one. I recommend you go on VPN and contact Unlocator support as well.
It sounds like Unlocator is for you.
For iPhone you can have ExpressVPN in the background for VOIP and then when you want to stream just go to network setting and then go to “configure DNS”, “manual” and then type in the number from the website. Before you do this though, just go on your iPhone browser and log-in to Unlocator, then click the refresh icon for IP address. That should do it.
No, and honestly, when ExpressVPN does/has for Netflix, Netflix realizes it pretty quickly. July and Amazon, I don’t remember it ever being able to do so. Basically, I just use ExpressVPN for privacy and to be able to use VOIP services on my phone. I like it because it’s fast and always runs automatically in the background, never have to turn on/off to receive or make calls.
I’ve been using Unlocator for Netflix, Hulu and other streaming services (switching to the UK and other regions when I get bored) for over 3 years now and haven’t had a problem.
The only thing is, if it stops working, it usually means you just have to log-in to the site and click the refresh icon next to VPN (on the homepage). This also means you can log-out and in various networks but can’t use on more than one network. You can use it on unlimited devices on the same network. It’s pretty easy to set-up and use. Sorry, I’m just not great at explaining it 😅.
Unlocator provides VPN, but I only use the smart DNS service. It’s great if you have an Apple TV or Amazon fire stick. Just have to change the DNS to manual on the device’s network setting. Same for computer, just change the DNS to the one provided. Just make sure to update/sync your VPN on the homepage after you log-in.
Express VPN for the everyday. Unlocks VOIP and provides privacy.
Unlocator (DNS) for watching U.S. Hulu, Netflix, Disney+, Amazon prime and more.
👆🏼 They have an option to pre-select the regional location for various streaming sites.
Carrefour are usually pretty good at returns / refunds normally. Since this looks like it's a discontinued model due to safety concerns, you should definitely get your money back if you show them the link and hopefully whoever is managing the complaint realises the fire hazard aspect too and passes on your concerns to the higher ups. You won't be out of pocket and you'll sleep better knowing you might have prevented a fire in someone other unsuspecting persons house here.

The only difference is the graphics card the one you linked is rtx 2060 and this one is GTX 1660 ti
And i also looked for legion y540 but it was above my budget with shipping
Yes, very different world here. I would recommend this and this. If your looking to understand their rulers. In all honesty they have inspirational figures that support ambition with execution. Many other resource rich countries flounder in corruption and greed, the gulf seems to have navigated it all quite well.
I wouldn't know what to recommend about living experiences, but i'm sure there are a few blogs out there.
Come visit, in winter though. A week between the gulf states could suffice if you visit 2/3 of them.
NordVPN does not work here, I ended up requesting a refund and they promptly refunded. I tried it so I can call my family over WhatsApp, Viber and Facebook Messenger. But some free VPN apps on android do work. I don't remember which because I switched to Google Duo and Imo to call my family.
A popular messaging platform. I know WhatsApp is more popular in these parts of the world, just that this has more anonymity for those who prefer that. Find it here. And join us for some Red Devil discourse!
No idea, but please use the government run Karwa taxi's app. Using the Karwa app you can flag down the local metered blue colored taxis, but a fare will have 5 riyal added. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.karwatechnologies.karwataxi
