>Q: Can Telegram protect me against everything?
>
>Telegram can help when it comes to data transfer and secure communication. This means that all data (including media and files) that you send and receive via Telegram cannot be deciphered when intercepted by your internet service provider, owners of Wi-Fi routers you connect to, or other third parties.
Source: https://telegram.org/faq#q-can-telegram-protect-me-against-everything
1- No. If you have a data plan, it would consume your data cause it needs internet to work, just like WhatsApp. Otherwise, no, it simply wouldn't work if you have no mobile data or wifi.
2- Cause Telegram has various privacy features that allow you to use it without sharing your phone number. Like you can set a username and hide your phone number, so people can find you through your username and not know your phone number. Comes handy for people you just met or business contacts.
You should check out the FAQ and their Blog for more information about features. There's a ton of stuff to learn about Telegram if you're new to it.
Telegram will only disclose your IP to law enforcement if it receives a court order confirming you are a terrorist. According to their privacy policy, "[s]o far, this has never happened."
Two examples of different cases that may help you understand and know more about name squatting on Telegram:
1️⃣
Hello, this is Telegram Support. This information is important:
One of your unused channels had the username https://t.me/smstelegram in our system. While Telegram usernames are served on first come — first serve basis, there are several exceptions to this rule: https://telegram.org/faq#q-what-do-i-do-if-my-username-is-taken
Due to the fact that one account can register multiple bot and channel usernames, we reserve the right to recall usernames assigned to unused bots and channels.
I'm afraid, this is exactly the case of your channel — it’s been inactive for long and unfortunately, its username has now been recalled. We are sorry that this had to happen.
In case you own this name as a trademark or have some other legal claim regarding it, kindly provide the details.
2️⃣
Hello, this is a notification from Telegram Support. Unfortunately, we had to transfer your channel's username @{censored} to another Telegram user.
While Telegram usernames are served on first come — first serve basis, there is one exception to this rule:
Since we are a small company and don't have large legal departments, we outsource username disputes to older established social networks.
What this means, is that if a person is using the same username on at least two of these three networks: Twitter, Facebook, Instagram — we consider it to be part of their online identity and will give them that username, should they request it (read more in the FAQ).
I'm afraid, this is exactly what happened to your username. A person contacted us and confirmed that they are using this name on at least two of the services mentioned above. Unfortunately, we had to give the contested username to them.
We are deeply sorry that this happened. In case you own this name as a trademark, please provide the details to .
>And One More Thing
>
>Since 2014, Telegram users have been sharing files up to 1,5 GB each, which happens to be 93 times larger than 16 MB (which is a totally random number, we have no idea what it could possibly mean).
>
>From now on, you can send unlimited numbers of media and files of any kind – up to 2 GB each.
>
>And that‘s it for today. We're now in the middle of the year — with eight major updates behind us and long-awaited features just around the corner. Stay tuned!
Zap Zap Messenger is cancer. I've never used it so I don't know how it works - I only know that somehow it changes its users username to that "@zapuser" crap. Never trust unknown proprietary Telegram clients
> What's next, you might ask? The current global lockdown highlighted the need for a trusted video communication tool. Video calls in 2020 are much like messaging in 2013. There are apps that are either secure or usable, but not both. We'd like to fix that, and we will focus on bringing you secure group video calls in 2020.

>When will they be ready? You‘ll be the first to know when we’re done, promise. So stop asking.
According to Telegram Privacy Policy, 10.2:
>In cloud chats, you can choose to delete a message for all participants within at least 48 hours after sending. Otherwise, deleting a message will delete it from your message history. This means that a copy will stay on the server as part of your partner's message history. As soon as your partner deletes it too, it's gone forever.
However, this 48 hours limit is outdated, because (the same 10.2):
>As of version 5.5, any party can choose to delete any messages in one-on-one chats, both sent and received, for both sides. There is no time limit. Any party can also opt to clear the entire chat history for both parties, in which case the apps will be instructed to remove all messages in that chat, however many of them are still retained by either of the participants.
The actual Telegram version for Android/iOS is 7.9
Please read here.
To improve the security of your account, as well as to prevent <em>spam</em>, abuse, and other violations of our Terms of Service, we may collect metadata such as your IP address, devices and Telegram apps you've used, history of username changes, etc. If collected, this metadata can be kept for 12 months maximum.
I think, the best thing you should do is to communicate with Telegram by adding descriptive information into your request. Just send them an email or https://telegram.org/support
--
Telegram should notify the owner of the account which is going to be banned. I'm starting to get frightened because of this kind of situations and also Reddit posts. There are many posts like this one.

I think, there are many people using Telegram as a messaging app, cloud service, note app, and so on.. Since it has bots, you can do whatever you want with Telegram. So, what if I lose all my data for no reason like that?
I don't think Telegram will have video calls soon. They don't even have audio calls. Why? Because they focus on messaging (and they honestly make really cool and trending features). Also read this answer in their FAQ.
I think so.
For example in android there is an app named termux that is a terminal emulator. It supports python 3.7 and 2.7 (pip is also included during install) and php 7 and Golang 1.12.7 and nodejs 12.4. Shit's so powerful. I once runned nginx with it and I were really happy with it. Give it a try if your phone is android.
Also for coding on android you can use either online IDEs or search Google play for an IDE. Then run the code using termux and your bot starts running.
If you have an iphone then for example have a look at Pythonista 3. I haven't tested it.
Telegram is not based in Russia. It's true that a lot of the developers are originally from St.Petersburg and one of the primary funders (Pavel Durov) is from Russia, but according to the FAQ, they’re currently located in Dubai.
Ok, I'll bite.
My first thought is that it may be that this person has a client open on your account. You can close all active sessions using the phone app. Something along the lines of Setting -> Privacy and Security -> Active Sessions. I am on Windows Phone and it's unlikely that you are so the menu structure may well be different it should be similar and with the same functionality. Look for any unusual sessions in there and kill them if needed.
You can then add 2-factor authentication from the Privacy and Security menu to further secure your account
Additionally/alternatively contact Telegram Support to discuss/investigate the method by which the "hacker" could have access to such information.
Good luck
From what you say it sounds like the group was banned, and the owner's account was banned because they were the owner of the group, not the other way around. That's not a flaw, that's how it's supposed to work. You can review Telegram's TOS to see why the group might have been banned. The only reason Telegram takes action are:
From Telegram’s official blog: “To make sure your call is 100% secure, you and your recipient just need to compare four emoji over the phone.”
It’s basically a verification key to show that your call is secured on both ends.
>Does Telegram wipe unused accounts without warning?
Yes.
From their FAQ:
>If you stop using Telegram and do not log in for at least six months, your account will be deleted along with all messages, media, contacts and every other piece of data you store in the Telegram cloud. You can change the exact period after which your inactive account will self-destruct in Settings.
https://telegram.org/privacy#3-deleting-data
That section is actually more relevant.
Deleting your account permanently removes all your messages, groups and contacts. This action must be confirmed via your Telegram account and cannot be undone. Messages
Everything you delete is deleted forever. Except for cats. We never delete your funny cat pictures, we love them too much.
When you delete a message, you delete it from your message history. This means that a copy still stays on the server as part of your partner‘s message history. As soon as your partner deletes it too, it’s gone forever. Telegram's goal is not to bring profit and we value the disk space on our servers greatly.
In supergroups, deleted messages and original versions of edited messages are stored for 48 hours in order to be shown in the admins log (added in Telegram 4.1.).
The pure-floss fork of Telegram on F-Droid is exactly what you're looking for. Amongst other things proprietary things removed, it also uses a different emoji set. I'm not that educated in emoji, so I don't know which set it is, could be the Android system emoji, or a bundled pack, but should be floss nevertheless.
Check it out on F-Droid
Apple and Google's app store policies force Telegram to censor public porn groups. If you're on Android, download it from telegram.org to bypass play store restrictions. If not, uh... buy a less restrictive phone I guess.
If you get a notification that someone joined telegram, it's because you had them in your contacts, not because they had your phone number.
Edit: that said, you also have the ability to control who can look you up by number. See the bottom of their blog post about it to read up on the matter.
Are you asking about Telegram X for iOS or Android? Android has no repo and it's not dead, dev had a break (or some IRL stuff) but updates are coming. iOS though became main Telegram and you can read about it here: https://telegram.org/blog/telegram-x
Tell the hacker he/she could win cold hard cash money if they show Telegram how they broke their encryption.
Otherwise, it's probably someone on a session that was left open (as /r/TheMysteryRedditor said) or somehow your phone number to authenticate is comprised.
Edit: Formatting
/u/DonDino1 is right, it is a problem that Android O has introduced. I assume Telegram is the only app that people notice this happening on because Telegram does not have their notifications set up properly.
Almost anything is created from 0
A former Telegram developer, some time ago said that to initialize the database it was necessary to use a hexeditor
Server side they use kphp (Probably a modified version) https://github.com/VKCOM/kphp
For clients you can see here https://telegram.org/apps?setln=en
Telegram should add 'scam' as a report option, it's already in the ToS. I'm also tired of these dipshits.
I think the voice chat feature will be useful for classes. Chat History will be available for new users if you enable it group settings. There are polls option if you need to take feedbacks https://telegram.org/blog/voice-chats
Again, I've spent years on the platform and I've never had any "surprise".
You must have searched for some porno-related keyword. I doubt your kids will do that so it won't be an issue.
(Nope. Since March 13, 2016. )
Check out emojipedia. Just search for some emoji you like and look at the shortcodes below the images. For example: this emoji "😊" has the shortcode
I asked someone at Telegram about this once. The back-end is mostly C and C++, since they need to squeeze all the performance they can out of their hardware. The clients are written in various languages; you can see them here: https://telegram.org/apps
They mislead you, you can't sign up an account using the web version, just sign in to an existing one.
Here's what happens when you try to log in to web.telegram.org using a phone number that is not yet registered in Telegram:
>Error
>
>You don't have a Telegram account yet, please sign up with Android / iPhone first.
Method: auth.sendCode Result: {"_":"rpc_error","error_code":400,"error_message":"PHONE_NUMBER_APP_SIGNUP_FORBIDDEN"}
To register an account, you need to install an app on your smartphone or PC. Registration is possible in the Telegram Desktop, but the app will still first ask you to install the Telegram on your phone. This is done deliberately, because contacts won't be imported when you register using your PC, and this is quite an important thing for the messenger apps.
You can simply report that sticker pack as something that violates copyright.
Telegram explicitly noted it in their FAQ
If you're on Android, you can try Plus Messenger, that has tabs for chats/groups/bots/channels and even favourite contacts!
However, please note, that Plus Messenger heavily relies on official Telegram for Android source code, so the latest update's features are still missing.
Thank you so much, /u/imlps, for helping me identifying the issue and apply a fix. You've saved me a lot of headache.
The culprit was Cloudflare's 1.1.1.1 DNS service. I switched to OpenDNS' 208.67.222.222 as I mentioned in a comment above and it's working wonderfully well now.
Not sure why Cloudflare is blocking 'web.telegram.org' though -- strange.
Anyway, it works now and I'm super happy! :)
P. S. There seems to be a thread over at /r/CloudFlare by a reddit user a couple years ago dealing with the same issue I'm facing now -- https://www.reddit.com/r/CloudFlare/comments/cajevd/cannot_access_telegram_when_using_cloudflares_dns/ -- leaving it up in case someone else googles 'Telegram not working with Cloudflare DNS' or something and finds this thread.
Is it possible you're in one of the countries where such content is blocked geographically? I know that includes Iran and probably some other Middle Eastern spots.
I'd suggest trying the Android client that isn't from the Play Store. Go to Telegram's website here and download the apk and then install. It should not have restrictions.
It depends on the code running for that bot. As the bot can access all messages you send to it, nothing stops the bot owner/developer to store those messages outside Telegram. Take a look also on this FAQ from Telegram
Your concerns are correct, but the thing is, privacy and convenience dont go hand in hand and you may like it or not,we are a bunch of privacy nerds and the regular public is far from that, all they want is to chat and hopefully, not have some human read them(like friends/family/government for legal matters)
Telegram strikes a nice mix of convenience and privacy and hear me out, while secret chats are not convenient, they stay what they are meant to be-secret. And regarding the others, check out https://telegram.org/faq on how they handle regular ones(titled "how do we process data requests"), the answer is pretty well explained.
And basically all of privacy relies on trusting someone with their commitment and I'd rather trust someone who has released 0 bytes of data till date(mentioned in the faq) rather than Facebook.
It's views number, and if you see a post again after a while, the number increases.
>Q: What does the eye icon mean?
>
>Each post in a channel has a view counter. Views from forwarded copies of your messages are also included in the total count. This way you can see how far it has spread.
>
>Please note that these numbers are approximate — we don't want to keep a record for everything you've ever viewed. After a short while (around 4 days), Telegram will forget that you've seen a post and will count you again if you navigate to it. For this reason you may see several views for posts in a private channel where you are alone.
Okay, maybe it's not clear, but when you make the window narrower, you'll see something like this https://telegram.org/file/811140557/4/6zghfkT1Uyc.365727/a7c0863af9ecc4b3af. So you can easy find your messages and your interlocutor's messages. With wide window you can distinguish them by icons only, which is inconvenient.
It all started with someone who could "access" the data stored on their own computer (something obvious?), This person makes his posting on Twitter but talks about "Telegram Desktop", but when the images you realize it is Native Telegram for MacOS.

All means are made of information and attack the messenger without first verifying, many until and not cut and paste made.

It is true that the native telegram application for macOS (the one that stores the secret chats in your computer) stores this information, but Telegram says so in its FAQ: https://telegram.org/faq/#q-can- telegram-protect-me-against-everything. IF IT IS MY COMPUTER, WHO IS MORE THAN ME TO ACCESS MY DATA ?.

You can encrypt the hard drive if you feel insecure about who can enter your computer while you sleep ...
Telegram and WhatsApp are two different messengers. So the answer to your question is "No". However, I think you should ask some of your friends to try Telegram as second messaging app, just to test it. You can also send them a link to Telegram's FAQ, for example, this one with a brief comparison between two services.
According to API Documentation:
>Incoming updates are stored on the server until the bot receives them either way, but they will not be kept longer than 24 hours.
Could not agree more. If there is no way for them to fix it, they should at least warn the users (existing and new) about this limitation. As it stands now it is even advertised as a secure and long term storage for your messages and media files, and I quote:
"Unlike most messengers, Telegram can take up nearly zero space on your phone, even if you‘re using it heavily. When you remove Telegram data from your device’s local cache to free up space, we'll keep it in the cloud for as long as you need, with virtually no limitations." (emphasis mine)
I really love the ammount of work the development team drops into this project and really hope they find a way to keep their word and allow us to get our data when we need it.
It doesn't work like that. Firstly, your phone has to tell TG servers what contacts you've added. It sends all the numbers and corresponding names, server returns list of registred users and list of non-registered users. So there's no need to mess with phone's contact list.
Secondly, there's a limit on server side -- you can't have more than 10k numbers in phonebook, and you can't add too many of them. Last time I tested second limit was 5000 -- so you can't add more than 5000 numbers. It would process first 5000, and after that any number you try to save would be returned "for later retry". And that limit lasts for a long time -- it wasn't lifted even in 24 hours iirc. And just removing 5k numbers which were added successfully won't work -- you'll be able to add those numbers back but nothing else. What's more dangerous is that you can check numbers without logging in, and theoretically you can use tor/proxy lists and keys from official apps to switch them every 5 or 10 numbers when you get blocked, but I've never heard of anything like that except reuters 15 million, and afaik all those limits were applied after that.
> Keeps plain text on server...
No they don't. Read: https://telegram.org/privacy#cloud-chats
> uses homemade crypto for no good reason.
They have a good reason. Read: https://core.telegram.org/techfaq#q-why-did-you-go-for-a-custom-protocol
This is because actually not the files themselves are exchanged. Prior to being sent, the file is encrypted with another key (not the chats key) and this key along with the location of the file are then encrypted again with the chats key and sent to the receipient. You can look it up here: https://telegram.org/privacy#media-in-secret-chats
You can download Telegram from F-Droid. This version doesn't require Google Play Services.
https://f-droid.org/repository/browse/?fdfilter=telegram&fdid=org.telegram.messenger
BUT! You should also install the FDroid Store which lets you keep Telegram (and your other apps) updated.
FDroid is a safe and legal store: every app is free and open-source.
> How does YT make money? How does Google Drive make money?
They don't and they don't need to. Google is so huge that its ventures are funded by other, actually profitable branches of the company.
> And how does Telegram make money?
It's in their FAQ: https://telegram.org/faq#q-how-are-you-going-to-make-money-out-of-this
Here's a direct answer from their FAQ. In short: they don't make any money right now, supported solely by their CEO's personal funds. In the future, they have plans to put in non-targeted ads into channels while keeping personal and group chats free of ads. The app will also stay free, of course.
Telegram does not store data in plain text, no sane company would, as it should not even trust their own staff.

You absolutely can check telegram's source code (not just secret chats) and see what they are up to. https://telegram.org/faq#q-why-should-i-trust-you
Telegram is also a social network, they have to monitor for illegal activity, spam, metadata is absolutely necessary.

And oh there are zero trust distribution methods, I just assumed too much of a public application
Telegram is a platform that protects the rights of users and is not at the service of the authorities. In particular, the platform provides the following means:
Note: there is not much distinction between public and private channels because after the threshold of 200 users, the invitation link actually turns the private channel into public.
Telegram, upon request by the copyright holder, removes the material.
Wondered how you could close it, found this: https://telegram.org/faq#q-how-do-i-delete-my-account
The link points to this: https://my.telegram.org/auth?to=delete
Background about why closing the account: i believe you can only close other sessions after being logged in for 48h with a device, if you log back in the "hacker" can simply terminate your session. If you delete the account (s)he will lose the access.
But, depending on how the "hacker" got access he might be able to simply create a new account for your mobile phone number, if (s)he can receive SMS or calls. In that case this would not help.
Out of curiosity, how did the hacker get access?
Because all GIFs in the Telegram are actually MP4 videos
> Good news for GIF-lovers! As of today, you can send and download GIFs up to 20x faster. This is possible because we're now re-encoding all GIFs to mpeg4 videos that require up to 95% less disk space for the same image quality.
https://telegram.org/blog/gif-revolution

Well, here's current (08 Oct 2016) situation:
1) On Android you can only format text with single (inline code block) or triple backticks (code block)
2) On Deskop: same as Android
3) On iOS: you can select text and format it with Bold and Italic (no Underline), but when you edit text, you need to format it again, otherwise your changes will be discarded.
Bots have some extra features, you can read about them here
The Telegram API exposes the "messages.restoreMessages" method. With it you could restore recently deleted messages with the device they were deleted on. Sadly, as far as I know, nobody has implemented it in a client yet.
For further reference: https://github.com/zhukov/webogram/issues/620
Self-destruct: https://telegram.org/faq#q-how-do-self-destructing-messages-work

What do you mean by he blocked you?
I strongly suggest 2-step verification as the others said. I don't know why it isn't a default.
Anyway, the important thing is how he did it, and I believe some of your devices might be compromised.
Add a new contact @stickers This is Stickers Bot which will guide you through the process of creating your own pack. If you type something to the bot, it will return instructions:
Hello, I'm the Sticker Bot! You can control me by sending these commands: /newstickerpack - create a new sticker pack /addsticker - add a new sticker to an existing pack /delsticker - remove a sticker from an existing pack /ordersticker - reorder stickers in a pack /cancel - cancel the current operation
This are requirements for stickers:
Now send me the sticker. The image file should be in PNG format with a transparent layer and must fit into a 512x512 square (one of the sides must be 512px and the other 512px or less).
The sticker should use white stroke and shadow, exactly like in this .PSD example https://telegram.org/img/StickerExample.psd.
I recommend using Telegram for Web/Desktop when uploading stickers.
I hope this helps... Just remember to send uncompressed images... You'll have the option for that when drag&dropping png images into Telegram desktop client.
This is also possible on Android via the Challegram - an alternative official client from the Telegram team.
There's an unofficial android app that has those exact organization options. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.telegram.plus
I don't know about other platforms, but if I'm not mistaken, all software is open source, so there's also the option to make your own.
If you are using Android. You can install a 3rd party Telegram client like this "Plus Messenger" - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.telegram.plus
You'll be running two separate telegram apps in your phone.
Telegram X is back btw and the option is there (at least in the direct version in the tgx_log channel, don't know about the play store version), you could maybe also try the direct version of regular Telegram which should have fewer restrictions (in comparison to the playstore version) https://telegram.org/android
btw, appreciate your honesty 😂😂
Turn "who can see my phone number" to "nobody" in the privacy setting, which enables "who can find me by my phone number" setting - set that to "my contacts"
https://telegram.org/blog/scheduled-reminders-themes
I've tested that setting since it rolled out and it doesn't quite work as you would imagine. For example, setting "who can see my phone number" to "nobody" does NOT immediately make your number invisible to people who could see it before - it requires them to reset their contacts before you can really turn "invisible".
However, this should stop any new users from discovering you by phone number only.
That happened to me yesterday!
I was chatting with sb and he told me that utube bot didn't work anymore, but it worked to me and we didn't realize why it happened
But you're totally right, I have the telegram.org version and he has the Play Store version, now everything is clear
This is a lie, here's a quote from the website where you can download the app.
>You can download Telegram for your Android device here. This version has fewer restrictions and receives automatic updates directly from telegram.org
Link to the page with the quoted text.

Matrix is an IRC-like messaging platform which was built with compatibility between messaging platforms in mind. So, you could link a Telegram chat to a WhatsApp room, to a Discord channel, Signal, IRC, Slack, etc at once
They have bots for all other platforms to enable bridging. In the case of WhatsApp, since there's no official API to access it, the WhatsApp bridge uses an Android SDK Virtual Device instead. Check out the bridging section in the page

The short answer is no, the government won't have access to your messages.
> I ditched WA the second FB bought it. And why the whataboutism?
What you were using since then?

> You said point to point. I just wanted to point out that the server IS involved.
Of course is involved. That doesn't implies that the actual message is sent to the server or stored.

> So? Still doesn't negate my point: Telegram and anybody with access to the servers can read your chats. And you can't e2e groups.
They could but this dissipates your fears.

> What about this breaks the concept of e2e? It's not re-encrypting, it's encrypting. Once per key. I don't even know what the rest of this paragraph is supposed to mean.
Ah okok, this really clarifies you have no idea of serverless message encryption for multiple destinations.

> Why so aggressive?
If you don't like something open, free and heart-driven, just don't use it. But don't come to criticize like the typical I-know-it-all and I-could-make-it-better, since smarter people is behind this and making an amazing product caring about privacy, feature usage, and keeping it free as fas as possible to make people like you use it without concerns.

Also, don't play hypocrite.. dude, first you criticize and you came latter on with a
I actually really like Telegram and have at least 3 bots running

I'm stopping here since seems like you like to complain just because complaining is free.. Get well.
everything is unique at telegram! cant mention all here check at telegram.org
some include :
* multiple profile pictures
* massive cloud storage
* cool animations
* ultimate groups & admin tools
When something is end-to-end encrypted, the private key has to stay on the local device. So backing up the chats would also have to back up the according keys. End-to-End encryption has nothing to do with the strength of the encryption. Cloud chats and secret chats all are just as much encrypted, the only difference in secret cahts is just that Telegram does not have access to the keys.
If you're from the EU or UK you are not allowed to use Telegram if you're under the age of 16, as per the Terms of Service.
Edit to add to this: As per the TOS it is also not allowed to publicly post illegal pornographic content.
> Post illegal pornographic content on publicly viewable Telegram channels, bots, etc.
Also there will always be ways for kids/children to find pornographic content. If you fear your kids might find this kind of sensitive content, keep them off the internet.
> limited to one to one
they clearly said otherwise.

Just a friendly reminder that you can use IFTTT with Telegram. I've been using it for a long time to get notifications about new posts on /r/Telegram and some youtube channels (but it can do much more than that)
IFTTT integration is in Telegram since 2016: https://telegram.org/blog/pin-and-ifttt
The devs said they will open source everything eventually, but at the same time they are still thinking if self-hosting is a direction they want to go. So 🤷♂️
>Source code is open, you can examine it yourself — github.com/nicegram, or track connections using third party apps. It's distributed officially via TestFlight (no Jailbreaks or other things), and also, Nicegram complies with Telegram Terms of Service and Privacy Policy, which can be found at links below. https://telegram.org/tos https://telegram.org/privacy
Actually, this is true for normal chats too.
So, if the "Delete for both parties " was still available for you after 48 hours or more after sending, then this is probably a bug and the message was not really deleted for the recipient.
Yes, it does.
I'm using the "3.9.2.125991 AppStore" version instead, and also don't see a scroll bar - but I can simply swipe with two fingers to scroll the chat.

Telegram shuts down PUBLIC channels/groups distributing porn content. They don't care about the private channels/groups.

@Sevrah , I believe you can do it with Bettergram, that was recently featured on ProductHunt.
I've not used it myself (nor am I affiliated with it), so take it for what's worth.
If you're familiar with Bot API, you may notice that Telegram sends user's language code with events: https://core.telegram.org/bots/api-changelog#may-18-2017 (look at "Multilingual bots" section)
Fun fact: user may have different language_code with different messages using different apps. For example, if you set your Android device language to Russian, your bot will see "ru_RU" as language_code, but if you send a message from iPhone set to English language, you may have en_US or so.
I'm not quite sure how exactly Telegram determines "primary" language for such bi-, tri- and other -linguals, but they've been collecting such information at least since 2017
You can; bots with administrative privileges can remove messages. https://core.telegram.org/bots/api#deletemessage
I believe there's a fair number of Telegram bot API libraries out there that support these commands. In that case, it could be as simple as (pseudocode):
while(true) { messages = getUpdates(...); for (message in messages) { if (message['sticker'] != null && !in_array(message['from'], allowedUsers)) { deleteMessage(message['chat'], message['message_id']); } } }
Yeah that's certainly possible. Set up a bot with it group chat privacy set to enable receiving all messages.
Then add the bot to your group chat, take note of the chat id. Then start a personal chat with the bot, take note of the chat id.
Then you can use the forwardMessage method to forward all the messages from the group chat to you private chat.
Of course you'll need to either enable polling or a webhook to receive the messages send in your group chat. You'll also need to have the application responsible for controlling the telegram bot running on some kind of server or pc which is on for most of the time.
There's certainly some programming involved. It's probably best to use a programming language which has a Telegram API library available so that you don't need to do it manually. Although it's certainly possible.
According to Bot API docs, «Incoming updates are stored on the server until the bot receives them either way, but they will not be kept longer than 24 hours»
No they are not. They are readily available in the SQLite DB. I can read all the encrypted messages. I simply copied cache4.db to my PC and browsed it using DB Browser for SQLite.
Not right now, but it's coming.
There was a commit to the webogram github yesterday, including basic calls support

> do telegra.ph pages appear in search engines index ?
I think that search engines can crawl telegra.ph page only if you post a link to the page on some website that is crawled. So if you post it only to your private chat, or in some other private place, this page won't be crawled.
> if one day telegram decide to shut down telegra.ph services, how can I transfer all my data?
It has API. Writing a script that will download and save all your data should be pretty easy.
There must be some wat to implement it. This blogger did http://telegra.ph/Get-out-of-your-creative-rut-11-23
(links, bullets, quotes, headers, itallics...)
...and if it does start getting abused, then google will discriminate against it, like it does with anything having a .tk domain. Good luck trying to drive users to your content via googling.
Sorry, but that guy is wrong. There is a certain kind of encryption going on - I'm no expert on that field - but I can tell you that normal chats that are not Secret Chats, are not encrypted so that you have to exchange keys and such. So if you are expecting Signal-like, end-to-end encryption, standard chats are not giving you that.
You can go to the website and have a look at their FAQ. See: https://telegram.org/faq#q-so-how-do-you-encrypt-data AFAIK there is no desktop/web client that can do secret chats right now.
If you don't trust Telegram you can have secret chats. Telegram gives you the choice. I don't see the issue with that.
>Telegram is a cloud service. We store messages, photos, videos and documents from your cloud chats on our servers, so that you can access your data from any of your devices anytime and use our instant server search to quickly access your messages from waaay back. All data is stored heavily encrypted and the encryption keys in each case are stored in several other DCs in different jurisdictions. This way local engineers or physical intruders cannot get access to user data.
>Ideally, I don't want even the governments to trace it back to me.
What do you mean by that? Afaik no government can just go to Telegram and demand that they share (some) data with them.
see: https://telegram.org/privacy and https://telegram.org/faq
But if you fear that the government might gets access to someone's phone and will see that you're the creator of the group, then you could go ahead and let someone else create that group for you.
Then that person could add a bot to the group, and you could chat using the bot.
Okay, if you trust him, try actions from official help page.
Btw, it seems obvious to me that if this problem persists when you change apps and platforms - this is the channel problem, not client.
Anyway, could you ask your friend to subscribe to this channel and see if the notifications come to him?
From the FAQ:
The last seen rules apply to your online status as well. People can only see you online if you're sharing your last seen status with them. There is one exception to this: people will be able to see you online for a brief period when you send them a message in a one-on-one chat or in a group where you both are members.
From the Telegram FAQ:
"Unlike WhatsApp, Telegram is a cloud-based messenger with seamless sync. As a result, you can access your messages from several devices at once, including tablets and computers, and share an unlimited number of photos, videos and files (doc, zip, mp3, etc.) of up to 1,5 GB each."
There is no info (neither official nor unofficial) about themes for iOS, except one sentence from here.
However, the current version is being re-written using Swift language and that version might get themes support in future.
Well, after you login into your account, you can't terminate the other sessions within some amount of time (currently it's 24 hours, but may have already been changed).
Why is this? Imagine you don't have a second password on your account and somebody intercepted the SMS service and successfully logged into your account. Previously, he could just terminate all other accounts, kicking you out, set up 2-step auth with his own e-mail and have some time to download your chats (except secret chats).
Now they made some kind of quarantine. So if somebody manages to log into your account, he won't be able to "kick you out" for some time, while you can kick him without any problems. The only requirement is to be out of "quarantine": having your session older than that period (currently ~24 hours, but I don't know for sure).
TL;DR: If you have rather old session, you can terminate any other. But if your session is "new", you can't terminate any for some time.
Well, you can do the following:
1) Open Telegram on new phone and use the old number.
2) On Desktop, you'll recieve login code. Enter in on your phone.
(optional) Enter 2-Step auth password (if set)
3) Now you'll be logged into your current Telegram account with the old number.
4) You can now change your account phone number in Telegram (on Android/iOS open settings and tap on your old phone number).
Please note: all your contacts will automatically update your phone number with the new one unless you blocked them. (Read more in FAQ)
5) Maybe you'll have to re-login on Desktop (since account phone is changed)
Telegram will most likely introduce calls in their next update.
The code necessary is there already but hidden: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h3ZbJcEOZB0
