I would recommend Swype. I've used it for years. The keyboard shortcuts for copy, paste, select all, language switch, as well as punctuation are very useful.
Yep. Just search for Swype APK and you should find it on APKMirror.
~~Also, can you check this link? https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nuance.swype.dtc~~
~~When I open the above link it says "installed" so maybe it IS still available on the Play Store?~~
EDIT: Apparently the link only works for those who already have the app. My bad. Thanks to those who pointed it out
I have tried all the keyboards(flesky, google, swiftkey, stock LG when I had the G3, Swype and Kii) and I have the same problem. I held a windows phone in the store and typed on it and was surprised how accurate I was , especially considering the screen is smaller than I am used to. Maybe it is because of that? The same goes for my girlfriend's 5s, typing is fast and accurate.
I have given up on fast accurate typing, and just use swype now instead. The keyboard with the best swype functionality remains Swype for me.
See if she can't click Swype's Google Store link via web & install that way or you get her the APK. I got it from here.
With ES File Explorer (I'm using Pro), you can back up an APK. I just did it.
I presume the Pixel comes with GBoard, Google's keyboard, which doesn't allow keyboard suggestions for certain types of text fields. You would have to switch keyboards.
I personally prefer Swype. It supports suggestions in many fields that GBoard doesn't and I find it to be more accurate when swiping.
I loaded it through the Play Store when I first got the phone. Funny thing though, I just went to have a look and I can't find it in the Store. I looked online and found some news articles saying they discontinued it.
It IS still on my phone though, so I back-traced it to find the Play Store page where I can see it. I don't know if it'll install it or even open the page for you, but try having a look...

You can still install it from this URL if you have installed it in the past it seems.
It still shows up in the Play Store for me, under My Apps, probably because I purchased it ages ago:

Last updated Jan 2018. Fine on the S9+ Oreo and Pie.
And no, Swiftkey doesn't come close.
As secure as any 3rd party keyboard. I've been using it since android 2.2 and haven't found anything comparable in terms of ease of use with punctuation and capitalization. It's the first app I considered worth buying.

Try this link, which will let you download the latest (last) full version from the Play store. It's still hosted on there, it just doesn't appear when you do a normal search.
Between those two, I'd opt for GBoard, but I'd go for Swype or Multiling O Keyboard over either.
Swype and Multiling O are the two I use the most. Swype is the most accurate in my experience and Multiling O Keyboard is on par with (or very close to) top keyboards in accuracy with unmatched customization.
can you log into your google play account on chrome browser and select another keyboard app like Sywpe or swiftkey (since a lack of keyboard would make searching the phone app store very difficult); then download one of those apps to your phone? I had a similar issue on one of my previous note 4s. I fixed it by choosing another type app and I never looked back.
I notice you spelled "swype" instead of "swipe". Are you familiar with the Swype keyboard? Long-time user here. Best dollar I've ever spent.
Swype is the most accurate, in my experience. If you want endless customization, Multiling O Keyboard.
Try Swype with Dragon, it does a great job inside Tasker. I was amazed that Gboard didn't. I can't promise that it does what you need, but it's a contender. It doesn't like some devices but when it works it's very good.
The Swype keyboard will let you put the keyboard in the lower right corner, the lower left corner, or split the keyboard. It would probably help a bit for people wanting to type one handed.
Swype for swipers, SwiftKey for typers, Google Keyboard for the indifferent.
This should open in the play store app.
This Swype? This one has a lot of themes and is very fluid. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nuance.swype.dtc
Swype - Single best text editing features on any keyboard, which I personally find extremely useful.
Fleksy - Good for blind typing. Very good. And if you want to mess with your friends, it has a "literally invisible" keyboard configuration. Surprisingly easy to get used to.
GBoard - Google's keyboard. Solid all-rounder; jack of all trades, master of none kind of deal.
SwiftKey - Best for dual language typists, but known to be the most bloated of keyboard apps.
Kii Keyboard 2 - Another oldie-but-goodie, Kii 2 is an upgrade from the years-old Kii Keyboard, which was a popular choice back in the day; and it's chock full of great features and configuration options.
I'm referring to the keyboard widget that pops up when you are expected to enter text. I've been Tasker-ing for 2 years and am quite experienced, but I've never used scenes so you may have the answer.
The Swype/Dragon keyboard has a microphone key. Instead of typing, you talk. I want to say something, and when I pause, grab the words I've just added.
As for what I've tried, the combination of Google Now and AutoVoice is what I've used, and it's awesome, as is the Web Speech API n Linux. Nevertheless it isn't as natural as Swype/Dragon, so I'd like to tap into the latter.
Thanks !
I am sorry, I can't agree with you at all. I worked several jobs where I had to do device management with iOS. It is shit. Pure shit. Nothing but issues.
Functionality - My Note 5 has more functionality than any iOS device out there. The S-Pen does more than the "iPad Pro", and does it better. I use it everyday. Split screen? Been in Android for a long time, works freaking amazingly. iOS? Not so much. Oh, it's ONLY available for iPad pro. Android N is now getting native support, and will allow the functionality of a normal computer pretty much. My Note 5 beats iPhone 6s Plus in just about every area.
What picture are you change, specifically? I like to customize my device to my liking. If I don't like the launcher I am using, I can easily switch to the many launchers out there out there. If I don't like the keyboard, I can switch to literally any keyboard I want. Why would you want to do? Maybe I like Swype, maybe my tablet is too big to use one hand to type so I want a split keyboard. I love Linux, so I am using a Ubuntu font (sexy font) and a Ubuntu themed skin on my launcher. Hell, maybe I just want to install Debian onto my device, because why not?
As far as apps being "far beyond better than anything on Android", how can you even assume that? Sure, if the developer sucks and half-ass the port to Android, than yes, it does suck. I've literally never had an issue with an Android app, ever. I've never not been able to find an app that I needed. In a lot of cases, Android apps are superior to Apples this is a good example.
Quality? What are you looking for? Build quality? Waterproof? Screen protection? Yes, Android is fragmented. Yes, getting updates sucks. Yes, the carriers butcher the operating system. But to say the quality is less than iPhone, is ignorant. Have you tried every Android device out there? Different manufacturers produce different hardware.
Upgrading an iPhone is pretty pointless, since there are literally almost no changes to the operating system itself. All the hardware is the same, and all of it is 2-3 generations behind other devices.
By no means is Android perfect. The fragmentation across carriers and manufacturers is very frustrating, the slow updating is also updating. My phone has been updating every month for awhile now. It's not about whether or not I need customization, I want it there. And it is. I want to customize my device to my liking. It is MY device after all. Imagine if you booted up your PC and couldn't change anything on your computer. The only thing you could do is install software. That's pretty damn limiting. For me, iOS does not fit my lifestyle. I am a power user. I work as a system administrator/engineer.
I'm a firm believer that if it works for you, that's great. For me? I like my widgets, customizable app-drawer, and all that fun stuff. We are two different animals in this world.
When I first bought a smart device (before Android and iOS), everyone asked "Why would you want the internet with you all the time?" I didn't explain. Now, I ask the same question - why does EVERYONE need to have the internet the fingertips? Most people don't even know how to use their device, or use it for posting on Facebook.
Maybe a different keyboard (like swipe, swiftkey neural or beta or standard, flesky), torrent client like Flud or ttorrent, Weather timeline, Aix weather widget donation, a file manager like solid explorer or x-plore (ia donation) or mixplorer (not in the store, but it's donation addons are, Wolfram Alpha, Floatify pro to quick reply if it works with your client, or another app the guy did Snapshot prokey to take photos fast, unified remote, tasker, KLWP to customize if you're into it, twilight pro + sleep as android, maybe a fitness app for new year resolution? maybe a language learning app? languages are something that can not only be fun to spend your time on, but also have obvious benefits for your future job oportunities, and many of them use subscriptions, so you could buy a year in one sitting for a discount. Remember that you could also buy some good books in the play store and read them on moon+ reader. For a different game check out VVVVVV (that's its name).
I would also check the top paid list on the play store and see if there's something you like. Also check the subreddit for google play deals to make the most out of it.
PS: Better to manually paste the urls with RES than having to get the names correctly so that the bot can screw them by itself, phew
Terse, again.
Have you tried Swype? (or Swiftkey, Google Keyboard), flow typing makes writing on mobile much less tedious.
My keyboard (Swype - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nuance.swype.dtc) offers that function when I long press the "?123" button.

Does https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nuance.swype.dtc not work for you?
I saved this link to Swype on the Play Store that someone posted awhile back, still seems to work.
You should be able to install Swype if you previously purchased it.
Here's the Play Store link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nuance.swype.dtc
Do you use Swype? Or Gboard? Swype is my personal favorite.
I'm not a fan of Gboard, mainly due to lack of accuracy.
Jag har använt Swype i ett år. Funkar jättebra.
You can install the actual Swype keyboard if you want their full options instead of using Samsung's implementation
Thank you. The keyboard is Swype: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nuance.swype.dtc
I hope you don't mind me proselytizing, have you heard about Swype?, or Swiftkey, Google keyboard.
>Goddamn SwiftKey
Y U NO SWYPE?
When on the phone I usually swype: Swype, Swiftkey, Google keyboard.
