Glympse - I created a separate thread for this app comparing it to Google Location Sharing and got voted down a lot for apparent "shilling", even though I have nothing to do with this app other than liking it. Anyways, it's really great, tracking is much better than Google Location Sharing, you can show your speed, your routing trail and unlike Google Maps, this is real time.
What is the reward?

Ha, it's the same one I posted a couple weeks ago. I just copied/pasted it.
> If you want to check your phone / chat with friends / figure out where you’re going / gawk at something, step to the side out of the traffic flow.
This reminded me, if you're attending the convention with friends, but plan on splitting up occasionally, a location-sharing app might be extremely helpful. I haven't used one before, I'm almost always attending on my lonesome, but being able to have real-time locations of friends throughout the day makes it way easier to meet up than texting them "where are you now?"
I used the app Glympse for that purpose. You can select some contacts to share your location with for a limited amount of time. It's free. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.glympse.android.glympse&hl=nl
So basically this is a SMS version of Glympse.
A few things to borrow from Glympse would improve this app.
A function to send an invitation message to multiple contacts like "Hello! I'm traveling to 1600 Amphitheatre Parkway. Track my location using keyword: trackme"
Adding a notification when location tracking is active.
> * Help track a friend/family member who is new to the city, lost in a maze of cross-roads and help him navigate to their destination.
If they have enough data to supply you tracking information, then they have enough data to use an online GPS solution, and there are also great offline GPS solutions available as well.
> An app where they would be well aware that they are sharing their location with me.
Then let them manually send you tracking information. Glympse is best for this IMO. They could send you a Glympse and use GPS simultaneously.
It would be nicer if it was built in, but check out Glympse. It lets you share a link to a page that shows your real-time location for a small amount of time that you specify.

Didn't see anyone mention Glympse, which is one of the top apps in this category (have been using it since the Windows Mobile days).
I use Glympse. It only shares when you explicitly turn it on and send the link to someone.
It stopped working for me a while ago, but I recently re-downloaded it. Seems like the last update fixed whatever issue I was having.
Do you want something that is constantly sharing location or just at certain intervals? I use Glympse while running and it works well.
Not sure if available in other countries, but on Android market there is an app called Glympse that allows you to share GPS positioning data with people. You have to renew the signal every 4 hours, is the only downside for you that I can think of. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.glympse.android.glympse
Google home isn't going to know what devices are on your home's wifi network. A better way to go about this would just be to use an app that tracks your location that he can monitor in real time.
For iOS you can use Find My Friends
For Android you can use Glympse
Alternatively, if you are using an ISP like Comcast or Verizon(MyFiOS) than he could use their apps to monitor for active wifi connections.
What you're describing only shows the location where you were when you sent it. u/Doobie-Keebler, I think Glympse is exactly what you are looking for. It lets you send a link via SMS that will show the receiver your exact location in real time for as long as you want. They don't even have to have the app.
Glympse is an awesome tool for this. You set the destination, a time for someone to view you and send it to them. They can then see where you are and your ETA, but only for the time specified... Once it expires it's done. I use it when I go to peoples houses for dinner as I live a ways out. I also use it on long trips so my wife knows where I am and when I arrive.
For sharing location try the app Glympse. I love it, shows real time updates of location and only for a set amount of time. Check it out.
Glympse is also great. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.glympse.android.glympse
Glympse got also integrated in the latest version of the Nokia Here apps, but I haven't tried it yet.
Maybe Glympse is what you're looking for? They can track via website, and you can set amount of time for them to track, and expire your track/location manually. They also dont need to sign up for anything. Just share your glympse with them in a text or email. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.glympse.android.glympse
You can also bring your phone and enable location sharing while out running so family knows where you are.
Edit: here is a program I used years ago (Android) before I got a Garmin that has the feature built-in https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.glympse.android.glympse&hl=en_US
Forget all of this, and use Glympse..
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.glympse.android.glympse&hl=en
It's significantly better, and doesn't eat up your data like an SMS + screenshot attachment would do.
glympse: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.glympse.android.glympse
Weird, that it no longer shows the Wear symbol, but still shows the watch pics on the Playstore page. I’ve used this in the past, though it used the LTE on my watch to send out my whereabouts.
I'm not sure if Glympse uses Google's Location services or what their privacy policy is, but I find that it has a great functionality.
Would Glympse be good for you? Basically device A starts a glympse and sends a web URL to device B. Device A will update it's location(including showing current speed if specified) and device B(or whoever has the link) can see this update in real time(about 2 second lag).
As a stopgap until then, some IM services offer a location sharing option (Allo, FB Messenger) or you can try a cross-platform app like Glympse.
Side note: Glympse can temporarily share your location/speed and has a great web app so you can share to people who don't have it. Works great.
You might want to have a look at Glympse. Of coruse it's yet another app every participant would have to get, but it works like a charm.
Glympse is the best location sharing app I've found on the playstore. I use it a lot during road trips so my mom doesn't freak out and call me every hour. She can just pull up the link and see where I am real time.
GLYMPSE (my personal favorite) https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.glympse.android.glympse
ONE TOUCH LOCATION https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.creativeworkline.onetouchlocation
Sorry, on mobile right now :/
How about Glympse? I've used it for a long time. Lately, though, it's been locking up.
Check out Glympse. Pretty neat app.
Glympse is exactly what you want.
Maybe don't look to something that shows location all the time, but instead only when you need it?

https://itunes.apple.com/app/glympse-share-gps-location/id330316698?mt=8
I've been a fan of Glympse for real-time location tracking.
Glympse is another option.
Thanks! I just looked up the app, sharing the link just in case: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.glympse.android.glympse&hl=en
Whenever I go on longer rides, I let my wife track me using Glympse - it's free and it works flawlessly!
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.glympse.android.glympse&hl=en
What about Glympse? Send a link instead of requiring others to also have the app, and the link expires after a set time.
I used Glympse for Android
Share interface I think is intended for driving but may work for you
Glympse will let you do this. No need for anyone else to install the app, you can send them a web link.
Google maps. Or glimpse is good one.

Glympse does this well
> Then it broke. It was amazing.
Look into Glympse. I use it daily.
I don't see it available in Google play store but I cannot live without Sloth Launcher. It displays shortcuts to selected apps in the notification shade based on your location. When I'm home, I'll have shortcuts for Nest, SMS, email and Sonos. When I'm at the grocery store, I have Google Pay and my grocery list app, at the gym, I have the gym app, (LA Fitness, Google play music and Sirius/XM displayed. http://www.slothlauncher.com
GLYMPSE, as someone else has mentioned. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.glympse.android.glympse
Better You Mail for visual voicemail https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bestitguys.BetterYouMailPro
Have you tried Glympse? I send one to the wife when I leave work. Include my parents whenever the weather is bad.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.glympse.android.glympse
I haven't had a problem with Google location sharing, but Glympse is another app to try.
But you're competing with Glympse? Because that's what that app does: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.glympse.android.glympse
Another option might be Glympse, I use it cross platform and it works well.
dont you need to be connected to them on g+ for it to work? if so, https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.glympse.android.glympse is way better
Seems to be, I think it's https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.glympse.android.glympse
Hmm, maybe something like Glympse?
Glympse is what you want.
