Holy Smoke!!! The first thing I recommend doing is to contact CCI. The trouble with that is they don't answer their e-mail right away. But you could use this form:
https://www.comic-con.org/contact
Then I found this for Groupon. It says that you can "chat" with them. I haven't tried it yet, but I absolutely would try the direct reporting of this to Groupon right now:
https://www.groupon.com/faq#faqs:history-YWN0aW9uPWhvbWU=
I think if we all join together and file complaints and warn Groupon, they might notice the situation. And look at the prices for the different badges of SDCC!!! These offers might sit there long enough for CCI to contact Groupon too.
Line survival:
Backup batteries for mobile devices -- I prefer ones that have built-in charging cables (note that this one still requires you to bring an external cable to charge it...le sigh).
Bring a god damn hat. I have forgotten this twice out of the ten years we've been going and it is always unfortunate. You need a hat for when you're waiting outside Indigo and they stop the line in the sun. The souvenir shops in the Gaslamp sell hats for like $25. Noooooooooooooooo
Everyone in your party needs to have their own individual thing of sunscreen. Having one big tube is useless if the guy/gal who's carrying it it is two miles away. We almost never travel in packs so being outfitted to function as a lone wolf is important.
Water: I honestly just prefer to buy a cheap bottle of water at 7-11 or Ralph's and refill it throughout the week.
For ground cover, I've always made do with sitting on my own WB bag, so I don't have to carry anything bulkier. I've never slept out in a line, though.
Take a look at https://www.airbnb.com/ and see what other people in the area are renting for to get a good idea of pricing.
I do suggest not renting it directly to people (i.e. use a service like Airbnb as an intermediary), because otherwise you have no fallback if they trash your place, nor a way of vetting who you would even rent to in the first place.
When you get all the swag they give you when you pick up your badge, they will provide a map in the center of one of the booklets that will show you were all the big booths are. For smaller ones, you will have to look up by number.
EDIT: http://issuu.com/comic-con/docs/cci12exhib_maps/1 I guess they have it online already too!
I hope you see my answer. Not only are these top loaders by this company my favorite, but they come in different sizes if you look through Amazon carefully: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0013JBX5S/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 And there are other companies, but these are extremely high quality.
But almost no one offers more Top loader sizes than these people, who also usually have a booth at the cons so that you can buy the sizes you need right there to immediately protect your new purchases: https://www.hotflips.com/catalog/top-loaders Click on the individual categories and it will give you all of your selections.
>will early winter weather be OK or not as good summer?
San Diego's weather is fairly consistent year round. July is warm and sunny, November is cool and cloudy, neither is terrible. There is a larger chance of rain in November, but with a smaller convention I assume there won't be huge long lines for panels, and that may not matter at all unless you were taking public transportation to and from the convention.
As someone who has lived in SD all my life, and works downtown, Car camping anywhere in the city is going to be a no go, especially given the visibility of the event. I would highly suggest having a look at hoteltonight or airbnb. One of my co-workers was planning to put his apartment on there.
As far as parking lots, pro-tip, look for lots that use the Parkmobile App, the rates are generally cheaper on there than the lot's advertised price, and you can re-up the time right from your phone. I pay $5.35 per 10 hours at the lot I currently use. Hope this helps.
I’ve stored my signed art prints in art portfolios which are handy, but depends on just how much protection you’re looking for.

Ha, it's the same one I posted a couple weeks ago. I just copied/pasted it.
> If you want to check your phone / chat with friends / figure out where you’re going / gawk at something, step to the side out of the traffic flow.
This reminded me, if you're attending the convention with friends, but plan on splitting up occasionally, a location-sharing app might be extremely helpful. I haven't used one before, I'm almost always attending on my lonesome, but being able to have real-time locations of friends throughout the day makes it way easier to meet up than texting them "where are you now?"
I hope this is okay, but I just listed my apartment on airbnb and it's currently open from 7/18-7/22. Sleeps up to 5, 15mins (literally) drive from my front door to the convention center, or catch the express bus 6 blocks away for a 20 minute, $2.25 ride to the Gaslamp.
if anyone is still looking for a place to stay... I'm renting out my studio for the weekend (7/19-7/23)
https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/19876750?location=studio%20bungalow%20san%20diego&s=gPwrDXsX
Understood. Here is the link to the AirBNB listing, although the pricing structure is a little different there because of how AirBNB sets things up. https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/11633879
Also a copy of my post from Friend of CC forum: http://www.friendsofcc.com/forum/index.php?topic=7555.msg208866#msg208866
I hope this helps. I've rented this out the last two years so if anyone is really nervous I could also provide references if needed.

It's been a while since I've been to SDCC, but you can check hotel websites until you find a vacancy. There might be cancellations, you never know. There might be other locations further out that have vacancies. Depending on how much further out, you have to take into account the cost of taking an uber though. That can get pricey the further it is. I stayed in Old Town San Diego, which was a bit further out, but with that one you can take the transit system there. There's a station right in front of old town. I think it takes about 20 min. So, optimally, if you can find a hotel near a station, that'd be great. There's a possibility that rooms might open up a few days before with last minute cancellations. All I can say is keep checking. Try websites like hotels.com and priceline.com too, as well as the direct websites. If OnPeak opens up more locations or something, you can always reserve one and cancel any more expensive reservations. Most hotels let you cancel without penalty, as long as it's before a certain date
You could also get a bunch of friends who don't want to go to help you out. The more people you have with computers and registered member IDs trying to get in to the sale, the more likely you will be to get tickets. They don't have to buy themselves a ticket, they can just get tickets for you and your boyfriend. You will all need to pay close attention to the ticket purchase instructions (which will come out later this year - it's different every year or I'd spend some time explaining how it worked last year) and you will need to be on your computers ready to go at the exact minute that the tickets go on sale. Tickets sell out immediately, so if you aren't there before they go on sale, you will not get one. And even if you are there the moment they go on sale, your chances are slim (which is why everyone is recommending that you have a group of friends who are also trying to get tickets for you, that way you increase your chances. It's like having a whole bunch of extra tickets in a raffle).
If you are coming all the way from Sweden, I would advise against signing up to volunteer. Volunteers work for 4 hours and then only have a few hours after that to enjoy the con. You will almost certainly not be able to go to any of the bigger panels or signings that you want, and for the amount of money you'll be spending on tickets and accommodations, I would say that it really isn't worth it.
Instead of paying extreme prices for a hotel room, you might try out https://www.airbnb.com/. With this service you can rent a room (or even just a couch or an air mattress) in someone's house. It will cost a lot less than staying at a hotel, and it's a fun way to meet new people.
Let me know if you have other questions or if anything I wrote was unclear. This year was my 9th Comic Con, and I like to think that I know my way around at this point.
Wow! This is brilliant!!! I can't freaking believe you wrote all of this on a PHONE! My God!
You could extend this out with details about all aspects of SDCC, and fix it up for publication, and release it to people here. That's what the lady known as "House of Darkly" did when she released "The Art of War" as an online guide for SDCC [or any large con]. Her Art of War is several years old now, and things with SDCC constantly change, but she did a fantastic job with it. You too could be a new author of a SDCC guide for hopeful attendees! :D
[But yes, I do know you are too busy ..... And I do know that this is what this subreddit is for!!! But, just saying .... ] : )
Possibly for Saturday and Sunday too. https://www.accuweather.com/en/us/anaheim/92805/daily-weather-forecast/327150 It is much cloudier that what was originally predicted late last week. A nice hoodie or jacket and clothing layers now sound like they will be practical inside the panel rooms and outside around the con too.
I purchased a poster flag pack box similiar to this then attached a shoulder strap to it

Here's their Amazon link, despite seeing cheaper ones elsewhere, the main selling point for me was that the company is based out of California so I can easily hit them up should I need to use the warranty. And here's a video on how to use the device so you can preview it.
If you're bringing the pops with you, have them in protective cases ahead of time. If you're buying pops, have protective cases to put them in ahead of time.
I'm not in to pops, but the few I have I keep in the popshield armor cases from 7bucksapop, because I've found the quality of the official pop protectors to be pretty trash.
For other items, if you have an idea of what you want to buy, have something to put them in for protection if possible. I know I tend to buy comics or other items around that size, so I keep some document storage boxes in my bag like this (but I get them from Daiso so they aren't some stupid price) to put stuff in to keep them protected.
Also in general, I would rather just dump stuff off in the car throughout the day instead of having to carry stuff around for extended periods of time.
Hi I have another question. Was your 1 king bed room from last year the same as in the pictures found on the tripadvisor website? Thanks! http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g60750-d287392-Reviews-Omni_San_Diego_Hotel-San_Diego_California.html
Unfortunately I do not have a smart phone, and no one in my immediate party does either lol. Let's say meet at Hall E at 5ish (I'll aim for 5, but may be a bit later due to whatever traffic, or what have you). My name is Jaryd, I have a goatee, short brown hair, and I'll wearing a shirt which has this: http://www.igeektrooper.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/milleniumenterprise01.jpg on the front :)
Also, my number is 760-845-7471 if you need to get a hold of me. And here's a picture: http://tinypic.com/r/e6517b/6 I'm the dude on the right.
I also just noticed your username, Mass Effect fan? hehe
They give directions for where to sit and eat if it is raining. But NO RAIN for LA on WC weekend!! Look at this forecast!!!!!!!!
Low 80s and sunny all weekend!!!!! https://weather.com/weather/tenday/l/USCA0638:1:US
Kayak has hotels available, but they are further out: https://www.kayak.com/hotels/San-Diego,CA-c10760/2016-07-20/2016-07-24/2guests
You can pick up a hotel in Mission Valley for a little over $200/night
Perler bead artist here!
The more the better. I’ve found that the less you have, the more likely people are to keep walking. Your booth appears empty.
The amount of each print is based on that property’s popularity and even based on factors such as your booth placement or overall guest traffic. For instance, things such as Pokémon are always popular but say Homestuck is very niche and Undertale is no longer trendy at all.
As for displaying, use these . You can use butterfly clips to hold the prints to the sides. They’re great! Depending on how many prints (or the sizes) you plan to display, you can make an archway/ towers of the cube storage and then have a catalogue of prints in a book that guests can flip through
I found this on Amazon. 5" x 36" jumbo mailing tube -

I do NOT think this is what you are talking about. But I can't stop thinking about it. This probably is not what you looked at about 5 or 6 years ago, but several things do fit [kind of] and I figure it can't hurt to post this here.
This author/artist is immensely famous in other parts of the world, but his works had never been published in the US until almost 6 years ago when this volume was published, so it attracted a very large amount of attention. I bought it right away when it was published.
It is a illustrated story - a graphic novel - composed of a collection of the "Tales" that this man had worked on for years. He is now deceased. It takes place in a fantasy unidentifiable place that resembles parts of Arabia and Persia. It's based on the "1001 Nights" stories, and it contains elements of the stories of what you mention [kind of].
But most importantly, due to the prestige of this author/artist and the release of this book, it would have been available in libraries 5 or 6 years ago!!
The first link is where it is available. But the second link is what you want to look at. If you click on the "Look Inside" right above the book image on Amazon, you will get to see inside pages, and you will be able to know right away if this is or is not familiar to you. I realize this might not be what you mean.
https://shop.boom-studios.com/graphicnovels/detail/6250/sharaz-de-tales-from-the-arabian-nights-hc
Even if this is not what you once read, I highly recommend this book to anyone reading this who is interested in graphic storytelling with magnificent world famous art.
Wow! Thank You MsMargo! I really like reading these things from these perspectives. I'm going to try to get it and read it too! I have found it on Amazon, and at the risk of offending reddit no-spam-from-Amazon filters, here's the link: https://www.amazon.com/Pros-Comic-Cons-Hope-Nicholson/dp/1506711677/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=Pros+and+(Comic)+Cons&qid=1576974566&s=books&sr=1-1
if you’re going that serious you’d want to consider hard plastic protectors, which will be more expensive but more secure / long lasting. similar to the hard plastic protectors for comic books like this

That e-book on etsy called "The Art of War" is by house of darkly, and I've meet and spoken to her in person and she is awesome!!! I am actually one of the people, along with a number of her friends, who encouraged her to formally publish and sell this small book as an e-book or in some printed form after I saw a rough copy. This is one of the very best things ever written anywhere about preparing for the ComicCon experience. It will change your life at SDCC. I want to thank /u/mrbentobox for reminding me of The Art of War. I might make a post telling other redditors to check it out. Find it here:http://www.etsy.com/shop/houseofdarkly?section_id=13771278&ref=shopsection_leftnav_7
Hi. I do like some of the extremely nice poster tubes on Amazon also. But the trouble is that I haven't yet used the exact ones I like. But I am considering buying this one for myself because it has so many good features. And the price is So Reasonable! But I have not tried it myself, so I don't know about its durability or ease of use. But this is my favorite on Amazon:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01DLYJJWG/_encoding=UTF8?coliid=I7D9SINE8J88&colid=FOTK0ZVFF6LP
I found this sweet nerf gun https://www.amazon.com/Nerf-N-Strike-SharpFire-Delta-Blaster/dp/B018B2E28O/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1491929561&sr=8-4&keywords=nerf+handgun
I think ill get this. Its a win, win scenario.
