Take a look at a zoning map instead of going off your gut instincts.
The vast majority of Vancouver bans apartments, same with the suburbs. “big towers everywhere” is nowhere close to true, we can’t even build 4 storey apartments or townhouses most places.
Your instincts that things were OK in the 1990s are off. There have been hard-fought battles to allow more housing going back to WW2, and a cursory search of newspaper archives reveals frequent mentions of a housing crisis back to the 1960s.
Ultimately our zoning forces most of Vancouver to look the same way it did ~100 years ago. This doesn’t work when a whole lot more people want to live here today.

>Someone unsuccessfully tried to attack #ethereum today by publishing a long (~550) blocks which contained invalid pow's. Only a small percentage of @nethermindeth nodes switched to this invalid chain. All other clients rejected the long sidechain as invalid
>The chain has been overtaken in length by the good chain now, and should be overtaken in difficulty soon. Also looks like the attacker is not mining further on his published invalid chain. Another great demonstration of how client diversity makes #ethereum stronger.
In the replies:
Q:
>any clues on why the nethermind nodes accepted the invalid chain? Does invalid here mean "did not meet the difficulty target"? "Did not correspond to a valid headerchain"? Something else?
A:
>Did not meet the difficulty target. Seems nethermind only checks every 1024' header for PoW during some sync modes (we do something similar in fast sync, but randomize the locations where we check the pow, and check all at the head of the chain)
Thank fuck for client diversity!

This is the map the nonpartisan Iowa redistricting office came up with: https://nitter.net/pic/media%2FE_amyPPUUAIGrYw.jpg%3Fname%3Dorig
1: Safe D (Cedar Rapids, Iowa City, Davenport and Dubuque all in one)
2: Likely R. (Ames and Waterloo, but everything else is pretty red)
3: Swing. Really a 50/50 district. But with the way the burbs are moving, I can see this getting more dem over the years. The majority of the population is going to be in Dallas and Polk counties
4: Safe R.

Raoul just made a banger of a Twitter thread. Well worth the read. And the best part is...he calls for $20k+ ETH.
Those of us predicting $20k+ eth this cycle is growing!
It might seem impossible to most but, in my opinion, it's the only possible outcome for this cycle. That twitter thread verbalizes my thought process as to why 20k is possible and probable.
And when I say $20k, I mostly mean a quick touch to $20k at the peak. 20k at 2021 EoY, rest of this year will be steady growth up to the promised land...barring any shenanigans in the "real world" of course.
Of course this is obviously horrible for the people involved. https://nitter.net/MichalPurzynski/status/1293249273346179072#m
However that said, it could have a chilling effect on Firefox, Rust, and Tor Project regarding security at the bare minimum. Other areas will of course be effected. However, with Firefox we are already seeing them a decade behind on security. They are not in a position to further weaken their security model.
I don't think anyone knows the full extent of what this means outside of security. I imagine this is to make them more profitable

I'm not understanding how this clears anything up or still isn't a problem. From what I understood:
VPNs that you connect to, like PIA, Nord, Proton, etc... These continue work as they have been.
Outbound Firewall Apps, like LittleSnitch... Can no longer block Apple apps.
>[They] were never intended to cover all system traffic in the first place.
Of course not. If they did, it would make the app less useful than simply disconnecting your Mac from the Internet. However, how is this not still a major problem if you can't block Safari from certain destinations, or if 3rd party apps and malware can hop on to an Apple app connection?

Sadly, waydroid will not run arm apps if you are on x86 so many popular apps are out of question (and don't think of the games at all). I tested it out on Pop!_OS 20.04 and although installation was easy it didn't work at all, initially. Then to my stupidity, I realized that I was running X and not wayland. Switching to the wayland session made things work near perfect except for a few things like youtube. Youtube videos had a blue tint every where (EVERYTHING appeared blue, skin colors, clothes).
Although, as I said, arm apps are not supported on x86 (and that's not unreasonable: it would require some sort of emulation and considering how different android is from what I like to call 'Normal Linux', it might not be easy), so most of the apps were out of question and I couldn't find a use for it.
That being said I think it's helping Linux on phones (which is something I am very much interested in) big time and that's, rightfully, its focus, at least right now.
I sometimes follow development here on Erfan Abdi's twitter handle who is a developer.

> Bitcoiners have been telling me for years that as bitcoin gets bigger, its price swings will soften so that it becomes usable by regular folks for payments. But this isn't happening. Bitcoin is just as crazy volatile at $35,000 as it was at $3500, and $350, and $35.

The twitter page has finally updated with an odd caveat: "463 patients who tested positive for coronavirus have sadly died. Please note these figures do not cover a full 24 hour period" .. which is odd.

> But HEY everybody. No need to worry. The FDA approved Chantix, so it’s all good. We didn’t want those smokers straining hospitals so it had to be done. In retrospect, maybe we should’ve mandated they all do it given the clear health risks associated w/ smoking. 🤔
But hey, it's not as if Pfizer had a history of corruption, quality control failures and a neverending stream of lawsuits. They can absolutely be blindly trusted without paying any attention at what they're selling.

Warren is a faux progressive. I’ve stated it for years. She’s down in the polls and Bernie is surging so she needed controversy days before the next debate. Now the stooge pundits who moderate the debate will ask Sanders about this, framing questions in a way to infer he is sexist. And they know if he says that Warren or her campaign lied while he is on stage with her that he will essentially being calling the only viable woman left in the race a liar and “O, how dare he! See! He is sexist and against women! He’s mean!” It is a setup. Obvious.
Warren kept the details of this convo a secret for over a year but made it public a day before the debate in order to smear Sanders because she’s losing. She knowingly is attempting to damage the one other candidate running who is more progressive than her. It is beyond obvious.
Warren was a Republican for most of her life—she was voting for Republicans back when Sanders 30-50 years ago was pushing for the same platform he does currently. She sat on the fence in 2016 and didn’t back Sanders over Clinton because Clinton dangled the VP spot in front of her face. She’s fake and always has been.

And you really can't economically validate without their help. It costs $50k/yr in sol for your validator to vote on the chain. And the only way to make that up is to get proposal slots. And to do that you need a substantial delegation. Out of your own pocket, or from the foundation.
