500k a day would be amazing. If you try and input 3,500,000 a week into the vaccine queue calculator that’s been doing the rounds (link), it warns you 500k a day is unlikely 😂
I seriously sympathise - if you haven't already worth looking at upgrading your mask to FFP3 - small study here shows excellent protection benefits.

But obv not a lot you can do about the risk of your wife and stepson bringing the virus home :(
The twitter page has finally updated with an odd caveat: "463 patients who tested positive for coronavirus have sadly died. Please note these figures do not cover a full 24 hour period" .. which is odd.

Nadine Dorries speaking in parliament last Wednesday, jump to 6:17:15 (she has said her symptoms began Friday, so 2 days later). Given that symptoms take on average 5 days to show, it is HIGHLY LIKELY she was already infected by this point. All MPs need testing, parliament needs shutting down or MPs will be the new super-spreaders. And if Parliament needs shutting down it is patently obvious that major events and schools do to!!!!!!
https://www.omnicalculator.com/health/vaccine-queue-uk is the mentioned website - but [check this other discussion in this thread](/r/CoronavirusUK/comments/kh079y/healthy_people_under_50_any_ideas_out_there_about/ggicwr9/) (and the original thread ) and take the numbers as an extremely rough guess, not gospel.
Normality as in full normality? I really hope so!
My friends argument was that we have to have 2 shots spaced 3 months apart. According to this I'm only expected to recieve the second dose between 10/10/2021 and 23/12/2021, but I am 28, not a health worker, and not vulnerable, so I guess many others will receive their 2nd dose sooner. But if it is enough people, and how much sooner, I don't know. She also thinks that people will go crazy after recieving their first dose, causing the numbers to rapidly rise again, which I can see happening.
I don't want to be pessimistic, but I also don't want to have unrealistic expectations, and I don't know who is right.
Yeah, first lockdown there were only around 10% of people using public transport in London, this time around it's ~28% based on https://citymapper.com/cmi/london . Still a reduction, it was sitting around 50% for a couple of months.
Any body watch the first episode of The Salisbury Poisonings?
The suggestion there was that the network companies have plenty enough resolution for triangulation in an urban multi mast environment to pinpoint people within 1m and this was used to identify all phone users around the bench where the victims were, and subsequently used by the security and public health services.
That’s interesting, says 19th of feb to beginning of April, omni calculator says March-April. Wonder what the difference is in their calculations.
>So lockdown, which by definition means government mandated restrictions, didn't start until 23rd of March.
Individuals and companies acted 1-2 weeks before official lockdown. I work in Central London and my entire company (1000+) started WFH from the 2nd week of March. Public transport was at 75% of normal usage from March 13th and quickly dropped to 35% on the 18th (Citymapper data). People knew what's up.
Careful though. There are separate apps to verify that your pass is valid. For instance, France has https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ingroupe.verify.anticovid
I could load my pass to the French app just fine, but then when I scanned it with that other app it would give an error and say that the issuer of the certificate was not recognised or somesuch. It's probably fine to get into a club, but border police might not like your certificate very much.
For clarity, this is about NHS App, not about NHS COVID-19 that we've paid a lot more attention to this year. The NHS doesn't give their apps the most creative names.
Recently too, another article on the governments handling of it all from the start - https://www.authorea.com/users/316109/articles/545687-how-covid-19-spreads-narratives-counter-narratives-and-social-dramas - by doctors.
This seems fairly anecdotal. I follow citymapper and you can see the decline in traffic each day.
They don't have today's figures yet, maybe it is up from the 8% yesterday and you're right but the traffic has dropped or stayed the same each day without fail.
Edit: it actually rose between the 18th to the 19th and the 22nd to 23rd, but apart from that it's been a consistent decline
I think they were properly fit-tested though -- this is the study and they thank the fit-testing team at the end.
FFP3 are designed to block basically everything when they're sealed properly, but the question mark, as I understand it, is over what happens if you give one to just a regular person who can't check the seal because you need specialist equipment. I would guess they'd still do better than surgical or cloth masks but nobody seems to have tried to find out by how much.
You should try these. Like the Norwegians say, there's no such thing as bad weather, just bad clothing.
I know it’s a bit pricey but if it’s lower back pain that’s affecting you this has done absolute wonders for me! Just a suggestion

You're welcome.
You can actually buy spare nose pieces off Amazon. I would guess a paperclip would work fine as long as it holds its shape well when bent, but it seems like bendability is important - I used a surgical one I was given in a clinic I visited a few days ago which had a nose piece, but it didn’t hold its shape properly and it made it useless as a glasses wearer.
And yes, you can buy disposable PM2.5 filters easily online. I’m hesitant to recommend any particular ones since I don’t know which brands are properly safety tested and which aren’t, but I would assume anything is better than nothing (and likely also better than regular paper).
I should really just make my own - I do have a sewing machine but I also have no free time!
As they fled now out of the city, so I should observe that the Court removed early, viz., in the month of June, and went to Oxford, where it pleased God to preserve them; and the distemper did not, as I heard of, so much as touch them, for which I cannot say that I ever saw they showed any great token of thankfulness, and hardly anything of reformation, though they did not want being told that their crying vices might without breach of charity be said to have gone far in bringing that terrible judgement upon the whole nation.

No a 90 year old generally wouldn’t get invasive measures
They talk about it on one of the first 3 episodes of this documentary. Basically intensive life support is tough on you, a 90 year old simply wouldn’t bounce back from it.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episodes/m000h64s/critical-inside-intensive-care
To add there’s an excellent documentary on iPlayer which in one of the episodes explains why ITU isn’t suitable or is rarely offered for octogenarians.

Hi there, sorry to hear about you bike troubles, sounds like the bearings in the hub have gone, any bike shop will fix this for you, wouldn’t be too expensive or you could see if you can get a new back wheel of eBay. Shouldn’t be more than £50. Depends on the make, if it’s a 26” like a normal mounting bike, something like this
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/324199467491
Personally I would buy a second hand bike from Facebook sales, you can get very good quality make and model of bikes RRP of £300+. Like specialized, GT, Saracen, muddy fox, etc for less than £100 ....
Okay, so after searching the Facebook market, it appears that everyone has wised up and increased the price for bikes they don’t want anymore, because they know they are more needed now.
If you’re lucky you can find a decent bike for sale for a great price. Like this
https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/699153954202148/
I’ve been into my bicycles since I was 7years old, I know for a fact that if you buy a cheap brand of bike you’re going to have problems. Personal Experience. Keep away from ammaco.
I hope this helps, I’m out of idea, I have taken my time to write you this, and wish you best of luck
The Telegraph article quotes from "an email from Sir Jeremy Farrar, director of the Wellcome Trust, on February 2 2020".
In his book Spike Ferrar relates this early suspicion, but goes on to say "On 17 March, 2020, in a clear, short paper entitled 'The proximal origin of SARS-CoV-2', the researchers stated: 'Our analyses clearly show that SARS-CoV-2 is not a laboratory construct or a perposefully manipulated virus'" (emphasis mine).
Some excepts from that chapter of the book
...many things, the authors explained, did not make sense if this was an engineered virus...
...This virus bore no lab signature whatsoever...
...the ingredients for SARS-CoV-2 were out in the wild. They did not need to have escaped, or been unleashed, from a containment lab...
There's lots of other discussion, and Ferrar acknowledges the origin is still not clear. But he concludes:
"As things currently stand, the evidence strongly suggests that Covid-19 arose after a natural spillover event, but nobody is yet in a position to rule out an alternative."
That the Telegraph doesn't even mention any of this doesn't speak well for them...
I just realised that the slide I linked above was for 'low exposure', whereas for 'medium exposure' (where we are now) and 'high exposure' (where we were in January) it's still less risky taking the vaccine than catching COVID, so on balance you're probably right!
I've just watched it back on iPlayer. The stat was given by Jim Dickson (Lambeth Council) who said that "1 in 5 people who are testing in the borough are testing positive". So it's the rate of test positivity, not an overall infection rate.
The test positivity nationally is about 5.5% so that's ~4x higher than the national average but not as alarming as "1 in 5 people have covid"!
It does suggest that the confirmed cases stats in the area don't paint the full picture - if I remember correctly the WHO previously said the positivity rate should be <5% or you're basically not picking up cases because you're not testing enough.
Just in case anyone else wants to watch it, the clip is 18mins in: https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/m0012vl6/bbc-news-at-six-21122021
Thanks again for your help.
There is not information from Public Health of England anymore about number of recovered. It was before and stopped on 135. For some reason they don't want to publish this data. If it was 20k they would publish it.
Source of data at the moment are
I don’t think they’re selling what they own.
One of the ones that I’ve reported was selling 200 for £1000
Here’s one that I found just now
They advertise they have only a few left
my wife got two packs of these back in October:
they're comfortable, but much heavier than the usual surgical mask. if I switch to one of those after some hours with the ffp3, it's like sucking on a menthos.
There may be some ambiguity here on the dates, but weekly cases per 100,000 people has been used in many areas, and corresponds to the other figures being cited in the same interview.
The interview is available here, with the relevant part starting at around 1:38:20. Some quotes from that section:
Dan Walker: "The average across England, I think, is 7 per 100,000. In Leicester it's still above 50."
Matt Hancock: "No it's not actually, it's come down from that figure ... We've got that infection rate down. On the latest figures it's in the mid thirties, it's not over 50 as you say."
To me this is very misleading. Even if he is using a wider area, it's presented as the latest figure for Leicester itself.
I guess maybe my issue might be more with Dan Walker than Matt Hancock in this instance for not pushing for clarification of the figures!

I think it was 3 hours long in total. The link seems to have the parts where they had the international experts.
The only one I know of is this one however it is quite an overestimate on first doses now.
The best way we've got now is just "everyone before the end of July, sooner if we can".
How accurate is the Omni U.K. Vaccine Calculator ?
The uptake percentage defaults to 75% which seems much too low.
What are the current U.K. timeframe targets?
Idk, I had a look at when I, a 23 year old working professional would get offered the vaccine and the estimate was January - June 2022 on https://www.omnicalculator.com/health/vaccine-queue-uk
I think a significant proportion of the population will need to be vaccinated before there are absolutely no restrictions. Now, that doesn’t mean we won’t hover around tier 2 for a long time where life is mostly normal with rural areas being basically normal.
I used this one to gather data https://www.omnicalculator.com/health/vaccine-queue-uk , better than a best guess.
The calculations went over my head sorry, what data are you basing this on. I'd like to be educated (Not sarcastic at all).
Doesn't it feel like we've been in constant lockdown for the majority of this year already? Why couldn't they do the same thing in 2021?
The only organisation I'd trust to write a contact tracing app are Open Whisper Systems, creators of Signal.
The lengths they go to avoid storing personal data are amazing.
Anyone want to participate in a documentary?
I'm a documentary filmmaker creating a feature length film composed entirely of community video submissions submitted daily as the COVID-19 pandemic progresses. We are looking for people (anyone!) to submit short videos diaries discussing their lives during this pandemic. Everyone is in this together but experiencing so many different things, so we want to use the power of cell phones and the internet to create a global picture of how humans are fighting and coping with COVID-19. We have over 150+ participants so far.
More about the film via our sign-up page: https://airtable.com/shrMT5PyLJ8QpDFJR
In the above link you'll also find out more about my background and how to participate.
PLEASE feel free to ask questions, I want to be transparent. I may not be prompt, but I will answer any questions I can. We have applications in with the International Documentary Association for fiscal sponsorship, and have a pending application for a National Geographic COVID-19 journalism grant.
I got some from Amazon for personal and office use, which appear identical to the ones I get through work. These are the Amazon ones. Pricey, but comfortable for prolonged use.
I got both FFP2 and FFP3 masks from Lloyds Pharmacy (online). The valved FFP3 one is really breathable and creates a nice tight seal. I wore it in multiple high risk environments where I was close to a lot of people not wearing a mask and I felt really safe. I also recommend this 3M from Amazon. I can see it's even more discounted now.
You can get 3 for a week and alternate them, you could technically get a month or two at least out of them if you leave each out for 2 days after wearing them.
I think you will be more than fine if you just meet outdoors and keep a decent distance or get an FFP3/N99 mask for indoors, I used this one on a few ocassions and liked it very much. Good price and you know 3M is quality.
It is scary, but keeping as level a head as possible is important. Whilst asthma does increase the dangers, your daughter being young vastly outweighs this risk. I've even read that for us young asthmatics, flu is actually more threatening (though I'm by no means an authority on this)
As for things to help mediate the fear and give you a bit more control/certainty over the situation, as well as doing lateral flows, she may want to take more regular peak flow readings (the asthma nurse may well want to see this should she test positive). Also, maybe consider getting a fingertip blood oxygen monitor. With these, the current guidance is that the resting stable oxygen saturation should be over 92%.
I'm using VisualPing.io to send me email alerts when the text changes for the age eligibility. Yesterday it was updated at around 7am, and this morning it was sometime between 6am and 7am (based on timing of OPs post).
I think it's super important to note that you're not alone in feeling this way. I'm not really a fan of meditation or stuff like that, but headspace offer a range of free things at the moment (see https://www.headspace.com/covid-19) which might help?
It's not much, but Freepik has free vector files of Corona guidelines signage for displaying in shops.
I work at a garage and currently customers leave their car around the back, drop their keys in a dish at reception and pick the keys up on completion. They are not allowed to enter the unit itself.
I recommend you learn how to code, nothing complex.
I suggest downloading the Python language and tools https://www.python.org/downloads/release/python-382/ and follow the documentation and if you into visual stuff download pygame https://www.pygame.org/wiki/GettingStarted which will allow you to make cool 2d games with the Python language :)
There have been a few case reports on it:
It has been an issue, or suggested issue, for some other vaccines as well.
Still too soon to see it I think.
Looking at this, onset of symptoms happens around day 6, so around NYE. Anyone who has ordered a home test on the 31st wouldn't get it until yesterday at the earliest, so I guess by the end of the week we'll start seeing Christmas infections in the stats, and then probably the end of the following week NYE party infections.

>Will this QR code work in the UK for example if I want to go to a restaurant or club and is anyone familiar with this system? I would really appreciate if you could link some articles because I can’t seem to find anything about this working in the UK and am quite stressed about it.
I wouldn't be stressed about it.
You will not be asked to provide a vaccine certificate for things like restaurants or pubs in the UK. We just aren't doing that. I've been fully vaccinated for months, am living my life completely normally and have never been asked to produce any proof of vaccination.
There are suggestions it may be used at stadiums and nightclubs but it hasn't been put in law yet. If anywhere is checking at the moment, they're doing it unilaterally.
Further, the UK has applied to the EU for mutual recognition and integration of the NHS QR codes with the EU Covid Pass. So within a month or so that should happen. It would mainly help Brits going to the EU, where domestic restrictions are heavier.
Some countries already scan UK NHS QR codes as valid (Ireland, France, Italy) and so it's possible the UK is doing too. You can download the verifier app here and try, but I wouldn't be too concerned if it doesn't work.
When I still had my S8 I would use WalletPasses in situations where there was an Apple Pay thing and it went pretty well.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=io.walletpasses.android&hl=en_GB&gl=US
That being said, I don't know if this is now already built into Android, or if there are some passes which strictly won't work in WalletPasses.

This is what I found that looks similar to what the vaccination center gives alternatively you can buy one custom made.
Counterintuitive and possibly not relevant as I don't know you, but maybe you can't feel positive again until you've allowed yourself to feel sad/ angry/ scared first?
It has been very shit. There is no actual escaping from the fact we've lost a lot over the last year. It is not surprising or unreasonable that you feel the way you do. The ACT course somebody recommended already might be good for this.
Another thing you could look at is cognitive distortions which are common thought patterns that everyone falls into when they are having a bad time, and can trap you into a negative mindset.
Cognitive behavioural therapy addresses these issues, but it's something you can work on yourself with a course or guidebook if it seems relevant. I found Understanding Depression by Paul Gilbert to be a good book, and there are loads of workbooks, courses etc out there on this subject.
There's all the other things which you no doubt have seen recommended -, exercise, get outside, sleep, gratitude journaling, connect with people via whatever means available, meditation, helping others, journaling, art as therapy- colouring or making things.
They are all good, but sometimes I haven't got the the energy to start on any of that until I've addressed the feelings I'm fighting against first.
I wouldn't report a neighbor unless they were blatantly taking the piss. Having a loud party above me would definitely count as taking the piss.
On the subject of noise, I can highly recommend these to help with a good night's sleep:

Tangential tip...
If you push your glasses up 300 times a day normally, get some of these. Barely have to adjust my glasses now.
Green King pubs have an ordering app. I've been to 3 different ones as there seem to be loads in my area and it is an absolute pleasure chilling at a table while staff bring your drinks to you. During the eat out to help out scheme they also gave 50% off everything without a £10 per person limit.

It's a Scabble clone that is much better than the official scrabble app. It is a pass the phone game with up to 4 players, human or AI.
There is a free version, but we bought the paid version and it is my most used paid for app.
Glasses wearers who’s glasses keep fogging up should try anti fog spray for their glasses. I got some from Amazon and it’s basically magic. If you use it just right (which does take a few practice goes) your glasses basically don’t fog up at all. I got mine here: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Muc-Off-214-1-Anti-Fog-Treatment/dp/B00167S7HO/
Hey,
I'm also autistic, and struggle with wearing face masks due to sensory overload. I find it very sad about all the judgement being thrown around at people with autism. However, I have found out about powered face masks which use a ventilator and batteries, so you constantly get filtered air from outside (you can get them on Amazon). It works for me (at least when it still has battery). Here's the one I use: https://www.amazon.com/Breathe-Promotion-BROAD-Air-Purifying-Respirator/dp/B086DM52NK/ref=sr_1_38?dchild=1&keywords=face+mask+air+pro&qid=1597960473&sr=8-38, I'm sure you can find others.
