For most of my tracking I use Nomie Pro, it can track almost anything athoughnd it's very customizable. The only thing it doesn't track is food by the calorie count, if I want to track my food by calorie or by brand I use Fat Secret. Nomie can track by weight or specific item though.
Saludos!

It has lots of social stuff but I don't ever use that. the meal tracking is pretty easy and the barcode scanner very handy. Also is free and I have not noticed it bothering me to pay.
Calorie Counter by Fat Secret is super easy to record food with the bar code reader and supposedly you can simply take a pic of the food and the app will recognize it. I haven't tried it because entering the fix is so easy.

Tons of people here endorse My Fitness Pal and the Lose It apps. Personally I use this obscure one that I grew to like because of the pre-logged library and the user interface and reports. Link here:

Broaching the subject is always the tough part. Be supportive and set a good example for her when you can. By living a healthy lifestyle you can inspire others to do the same, since I've gotten by act together a few of my friends and family members have done the same (or at least started to).
Fat Secret is good.

If you don't like it you can use Myfitnesspal, I heard good stuff about it,

Yeah, noticed on the Play Store it said In-App Purchases, and the screenshots had ads at the bottom. Went with FatSecret. Seems decent enough.
Try Fat Secret
I have used it for years.
Diet and Weight Loss Tracker with Meal Planning and Food Nutrition Calculator
Welcome to FatSecret, the easiest to use calorie counter and most effective weight loss and dieting app on the market. Best of all, FatSecret is free.
Working out is great and especially for tone... But to lose weight it's all about caloric intake. If you use a counter like my fat secret you'll see exactly how much that extra crumpet costs you in calories.... Depending on your body type 1800 - 2200 calories is what you should be aiming for to lose weight.... Carrots are a great snack for when you want to reach for chippies and a squeeze of lemon with the soda stream will itch the soda pop fix for me.
Same as before but with reduced portion and more calorie conscious. I'm using the app fatsecret to count my calories intake with every meal and record my weight daily.
I use FatSecret, it knows a lot of products, which you can find via brand name, store name, barcode, etc etc. This includes European brands and stores.

App: Calorie Counter by Fatsecret. Doesn't seem to be a really popular one around here but it works for me. I really like the user interface and it seems to have a very good library of pre-entered items. Link ---> https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fatsecret.android&hl=en_US
Lots of these apps include meal planning and recipe maker options. Just click around a bit and explore what they have to offer. Also try budgetbytes.com.
As far as motivation is concerned, you don't need motivation (aside from the very very beginning). You need discipline. That's the key to this whole thing. You need to be able to hold yourself accountable and be able to jump back on the wagon when you slip up. Discipline is learned over time and some people learn it faster than others. Practice discipline in other areas of your life first and see how you do. Wake up early even when you don't have to. Watch one episode of your favorite show and then turn it off and pick up a book or go to sleep. Things like that helped me and they aren't even diet/exercise related. Pretty soon your newly formed habits will translate pretty well to your eating tendencies and it will be easy to stick to your plan and remain consistent. Good luck!
I just use this app. After a while, once you have your regular stuff in there it makes counting macros pretty easy.

I use Fat Secret, not sure how the product database is in other countries but in my country (the Netherlands) they have almost every supermarket product in detail.

Calorie Counter by FatSecret is basically the same as myfitnesspal and displays net carbs (useful for particular diets), can link with fitbit, has breakdowns of macros by meals etc quite good.

Short answer: Yes
Slightly longer answer: You will have much greater control over your weight if you install a food diary app like this one. It only takes effort for a few days. After that your meals are saved and you simply have to add them after you eat.
If you use an app like this one, you will have a vastly greater understanding of what you need to change to lose weight. I have a food diary going back almost five years, and even now I would not be able to control my calorie intake simply by 'watching what I eat'. It's too difficult to keep track of it
I've recommended this to girls who've been frustrated with their weight loss efforts many times. And when they've used it, it has worked for them. It takes the mystery out of the process.
I googled a bit, and my best guess is that you're talking about FatSecret :)

Szia!
