It was made by the same guy who went on to make the famous Xcom series. It's a cult classic that has been ported to many systems and even spawned several fan remakes. A few years ago there was a remake made for the PC.
It has a 4.8/5 rating on Google Play and comes with zero ads or IAP.

Chaos - The Battle of Wizards.
It was a game released on the Spectrum in 1985 that was given away free on the front of a magazine. IIRC it was based on a much bigger game called Lords of Chaos, but all the acton took place on a single screen instead of a big map.
You have a wizard with a random list of spells and have to go up against 7 other wizards.
You could cast fireballs, create castles, magic swords, bows, daggers, forests etc. But the best part was casting a small magical army of zombies, orcs, trolls, giants, elves, griffons, unicorns, horses, dragons, snakes, bears, vampires, wraiths etc.
You would use this army to battle the others until you were the last wizard standing. Fun spells included fire, and the sticky blob which would slowly envelop the entire map.
The game was a cult classic and spawned a number of fan made versions for the PC. The original was released on Android for free and a couple of years ago the original developer (Who also created X-COM: UFO Defense) made a new official version, but it lacked the simplicity of the original classic.

I got Chaos on the front of some Spectrum magazine and played it until the tape broke. Stoked to find it on Android!
