I built Cinch to do exactly this. It just won the Grand Prize for the Google Fit Developer Challenge, too! Check it out, and feel free to PM me any feedback.
Thanks,
Ryan
HeartSync has become Cinch.
Cinch does everything that HeartSync did and a lot more. Step tracking, calorie tracking, heart rate tracking, weight tracking, all in a beautiful UI, and all integrated with Google Fit. It also fixes the bugs that caused HeartSync not to work sometimes.
Check out Cinch on the play store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ryansteckler.perfectcinch
I believe you're correct. FWIW, I made an app called Cinch that lets you track your heart rate during a "workout", or just every so often during the day. The measurements get pushed to Google Fit, so you can view them in any Fit enabled app.
I wrote an app called Cinch that uses Google Fit for step tracking. The weird thing is that my app is much more accurate than the steps that Google Fit shows. I've done a ton of testing between a fitbit band, a watch using Google Fit, and my own app. My results showed that FitBit overestimates steps. Google Fit under-reports them. Cinch is really accurate.
I think what's happening is that the Google Fit pedometer does a really good job of reporting steps, but the Google Fit application does a bucket/merge strategy that messes up the reporting.
In any case, if you want to give Cinch a try, it's pretty cool. It also does heart rate tracking throughout the day from your Android Wear device, as well as weight and calorie tracking.
I'm the developer, so I'm biased, but Cinch!
It let's you automatically track your heart rate and upload it to Google Fit. Plus, it tracks steps, calories, weight, and has fresh daily motivation to keep you on track with your health and fitness goals.
And, it's beyootiful! :)

Features
I just found Cinch. You can set it to monitor constantly for a workout or set it to check at intervals throughout the day. It can be linked to Google Fit as well. It will drain your battery if you let it run all day... https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ryansteckler.perfectcinch
The Moto 360 writes the data to the Moto Cloud, a.k.a, a black hole. There's no way to get it out. :(
Cinch and Heart Rate OS both measure your heart rate and sync it to Google Fit:

HeartSync has become Cinch. I've added a ton of features, including calorie tracking, step tracking, etc. Check out Cinch in the Play Store and let me know what you think.
Cinch will measure your heart rate automatically throughout the day. It will also show you steps if you have that enabled in Fit. It will just show black if you have it disabled.
Cinch does heart rate tracking at intervals all day, plus a workout mode with continuous monitoring. It also does step tracking, calorie tracking, and weight tracking. Finally, it's integrated with Google Fit.

You can set your own interval, and it uploads all of the data to google fit. There also a workout mode for continual monitoring.
Nah, not really. I just know the people's names who were mean to my apps before they even got off the ground :)
I have a new app called Cinch that works with Google Fit and has some cool bonus features that use Android Wear. So far, only one 1* review, but I fixed the bug that the person had, so hoping that turns into a 5.

After several months trying, I only found this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ryansteckler.perfectcinch
I works nice. I noticed high draining for 15 minutes and excessive draining for the 5 minute cycle time. 30 minutes works well.
